Scenario based on Using ADS ( Adobe Document Services ) on XI

Hi
We are on XI 3.0 ( SP18 ) -I am looking for a scenario wherein a pdf document that is posted to xi ( picked up by XI using file adapter/http posting to xi - whatever channel ) can be parsed using SAP delivered ADS on the XI box and then posted to a backend ERP system - R3
Does anybody out there have any example for such a scenario ? Appreciate your sharing this with me.

  • ADS(Adobe Document Services setup/configuration/testing)

    Hi experts,
I am trying to do the following from Interactive Forms Config guide(around page
    22), as part of ADS config-testing :
    Defining ADSUser as Technical User
To prevent, that the password for the ADSUser expires, do following:
    1. Log on to the User Management of your AS Java:
    http://<AS Java server>:<http port> -> User Management
    2. Display the user ADSUser.
    3. Choose Modify.
    4. In the Security policy field, change the setting from Default to Technical
    User
    5. Save.
    Problem-description:(SAP version SAP ECC 6.0)
Step 1 executes fine, however when I click user-management in step 1 and try to logon with user-name as J2EE_ADMIN, to affect the change mentioned in step 2 onwards(I am sure the password, I put in, is correct as that's the password I use successfully in the visual-adminstrator also),the J2EE server goes offline immediately, only to comeback in a few minutes, I can see the connection is not there in SAP Management-console(server icon also goes grey) and also in SM59->HTTP connections->ADS->connections(message 'not ready'). The web-page after the above logon also remains blank(with web-page status as done in the status-bar below).
I have tried to do these steps more than 20 times with the same results, connection is broken but reinstated in a few minutes. Because of this problem I can't go any further with testing. Another problem is, while testing using programs FP_PDF_TEST_OO & FP_TEST_OO, the former program comes back with version etc., however the later program FP_TEST_OO, after execution, doesn't do anything and remains hung even after a couple of hours. I have also written a program to call a standard-adobe-form medruck_po with just order no. and some basic item-details. But this programs also remains hung, like pgm.FP_TEST_OO, which is probably same problem.
Has anybody come across this problem? any help will be highly appreciated.
    with warm regards,
    Ramesh.

  • BI Export Library vs. ADS (Adobe Document Services)

Does anybody know why SAP added the Export Library as an alternative to ADS for BI?  I mean, are there pros and cons to using one over the other?  Right now we're using the Export Library and it seems to work fine for broadcasting and Print View in BEx web.  It's tempting to stay with it, but notes mention that ADS is the standard, and Export Library is an alternative option for BI only.
Am I missing out on some functionality?  Maybe Integrated Planning still requires ADS?  I assume Adobe Interactive Forms also require ADS.  Anything else?

    Anyone have insight into this?

  • SAP SQL System Copy backup restore method with ADS(Adobe document services)

    Hello all,
i´m preparing a system copy with ERP 6.0 in windows and SQL server with ADS.
I have a doubt, can i do the System Copy backup/restore method with ADS??
or the only method that works is with system export/import in all instances??
    Thank you

    Hi Oscar,
Is your ADS system separate from your ERP system, or are they on the same server?
In any case, you can use backup/restore to copy a Java system, but you must also make a system export/import for the Java server components.  The two work in conjunction, so that the export tool doesn't export your whole database, only the components maintained in the filesystem.  If you select the database detach/attach or backup/restore method in the tool when going against the Java system, it will prompt you at the right point in the process to make your Java export as well.
The caveat is that the Java export requires downtime, so it isn't possible to copy a Java system without impacting system availability, as it is with a pure ABAP system.
    Best regards,
    Matt

  • Adobe Document Services... Need it Urgently....

Hi, I need to know about ADS( Adobe document services). What is it actually. Is it compatible to SAP. I had a scenario in my Firm, that is to convert a EXCEL File to PDF automatically when its stage is cleared. I need a contact number (or) mail id to discuss about this. please reply me back as soon as possible. Regards.

    Hi Nick,
I think dont need a licence for ADS if you dont use ssl. If you use ssl from your java system to abap system then you have to configure some settings. If you dont use ssl then no need of licence.Just upgrade to current ADS Support package and follow the document

    Hi Vinoth,
Adobe LifeCycle Designer is used for designing the Adobe form in NWDS.
ADS: Adobe® document services enhance the document handling capabilities of SAP Web Application Server (SAP Web AS). Adobe document services allow SAP applications (either Java or ABAP) to take advantage of the full range of capabilities in Adobe Acrobat® Professional, Adobe Acrobat Standard, and Adobe Reader®. • Can Adobe Document Services be used to print a PDF attachment.

Our users want to attach PDF files to DMS documents in SAP.  Can Adobe Document Services be used somehow to print these PDF attachments?

    Hi Steven,
Yes adobe document services can be used to print the pdf documents .
ADS supports uploading the offline pdfs and displaying the document in the pdf format in the portal in the iview/IE with all the adobe tool bar where u can find the print option too.
For impelmenting you any how need all prerequisites .Installation, configuration well done depending the versions.
Just have a look at the offline scenario in the tutorial below.

  • SOAP Runtime exception using Adobe Document Services

    Hi all,
we have an intermittent problem with the following scenario:
ECC6 ABAP system which runs our Payroll.
Separate JAVA instance running our SAP portal and Adobe Document Services.
SM59 connection from the ABAP system to the portal server where ADS runs. Connection via port 5554.
We have written our own transaction ZPAYSLIP which allows users to view and print their payslips using ADS. This transaction uses a program generated in transaction HRFORMS.
Periodically, this transaction will fail with the following error at the bottom of the user's screen:
ADS: SOAP Runtime Exception: CSoapExceptionTransport: (100101SOAP Framework error: SOAP Runtime Exception)
A lot of the problem is that this issue is sporadic and difficult to reproduce. Whenever it has been reported to me and I try to reproduce the error I am unable to. A test of the SM59 connection shows everything is OK and if I ask the user to retry it, it will work.
I have asked our network team to check the connection between the 2 servers at the time when the error happens, but they cannot find any problems with connectivity between them, and yet it looks to me like the problem is a temporary loss of connectivity or that ADS somehow becomes temporarily unavailable.
I have done the checks as referred to in sapnote 944221 (many times!) but that all checks out OK.
We have logged a call with SAP, but they haven't really come up with a solution apart from restarting the JAVA engine which is not what we want to have to do.
We also experience the same error from time to time with some of our portal functionality which also uses ADS.
Has anyone experienced a similar error or have any suggestions as to how we might fix this?
    Regards....John

    Hi,
We have encountered a very similar issue after patching our dual stack ECC to NW23/ERP603 sp8.   After first correcting it by routing the ADS calls directly to the server (and not through the web dipspatcher), we then updated our SAP Web Dispatcher to a newer version and this seems to have resolved it while maintaining the necessary load-balancing functionality of the web dispatcher.
    Hope this helps.

  • [PDF] use Adobe Document Services

    Hi,
We already discussed about generating PDF (see also this Weblog : /people/sap.user72/blog/2004/11/10/bsphowto-generate-pdf-output-from-a-bsp) from the current page ([PDF] Print BSP current page)
I would like to re-open the subject and asks the question :
<b>"Is this possible to achieve the same without using some third-party tool</b>(I know Eddy is fond of HTMLDOC)<b>, and especially, by using Adobe Document Services ?"</b>
    Thanks in advance.

using ADS it should be possible. but we have taken a different route. we have developed a small java application (jsp) using <a href="http://www.lowagie.com/iText/download.html">ITEXT</a> residing on the j2ee engine and from out bsp we call this and pass our array to it, it would then render the content in PDF.

  • Adobe Document Services (ADS) Configuration

    Hello,
I need to configure ADS for Form Processing (ABAP). However, I got the following landscape:
AS JAVA instance: Netweaver 7.01 (EP/BI-Java)
AS ABAP instance: Netweaver 7.4 SR1
Is there any restriction or consideration regarding this scenario? I mean, having an ABAP stack higher than the JAVA. Is it possible?
    Regards,
    JAM

    Hi JAM,
Please find pre-requisite information in SAP help as below
Configuring Adobe Document Services for Form Processing (ABAP) - Adobe Document Services for Form Processing - SAP Libra…
    Prerequisites
The AS Java where the ADS are running should have at least the same release as the AS ABAP.
    Caution
The following functions for PDF forms require at least the ADS version on AS Java 7.20:
    Parallelization of large print jobs
    Stitching of PDF forms
    Hope this helps.

  • Documentation for using Adobe Document Services

    Hi,
Is there any documentation available on how to use Adobe Document Services? I have installed Adobe Document Services for Netweaver 2004. But I am not able to use the services as I do not know how to access them (is it like Adobe Document Services exposes a set of APIs/webservices and we have to call them? If yes, is there any documentation on the same?).
    Thanks,
    Vibha.

I have the same problem here. The first click on the button download gives a PDF file which is less in size than desired.
I cannot figure out whether it is a problem with the code being used OR some configuration settings in Adobe Document Services (ADS).
