Scene numbering in Adobe Story

Have you noticed that scene numbers only show up in the left margin in Adobe Story?
Do you see a compelling reason for us to show scene numbers on both the left and right margins in Adobe Story?
Would you find it useful to have the scene number on both the left and right margins like FinalDraft does by default? Or, can you live without this?

No one responded that they didn't want scene numbers on the right.  That doesn't mean they don't want them and that they shouldn't be there.  One other person did say there should be scene numbers on the right.  If it's standard industry practice I don't understand why it's not there.
Other issues at the top of my head:
Lack of fonts.  I want to be able to use different fonts for the titles on the title page.  Other screenwriting software allows use of any font installed on the computer.
The title page uses the same page layout as the rest of the script.  This forces the text too far to the right on the title page, and the copyright info and contact info butting up against each other at the bottom.  Final Draft has a different page layout for the title page than the rest of the script so we can really customize our title pages.  This is minor, but still something that was giving me difficulty to the point that I'd have to create the title page in a different document or even a different app.
I started another thread that hasn't been responded to about scene headings being left on a preceding page by themselves.  For example, I start a new scene on the bottom of a page.  The only room left on the bottom of the page is enough for the scene heading but not for even just one paragraph of action for that scene.  The action falls to the next page, but the scene heading is still left on the previous page.  This goes for new scripts and imported scripts from Final Draft.  I don't see any options in the preferences or template settings to fix this, and this makes Adobe Story unusable.  This is a big problem.
I don't want to use the online features and don't want my scripts ending up on a server.  However, if I go online all of my offline scripts are all automatically synced online.  I want software that allows me to keep my scripts on my computer and only on my computer.  Someone could hack Adobe's server and download scripts.  It's intellectual property and I'm very protective of it.  There should be an option to turn off syncing, even if status is online.  This is another big one.
There's a lot of great features with Adobe Story, but certain things will prevent a lot of writers from wanting to use it, especially when there's other software without those issues.  I'll keep my eye on it, but right now I'm perfectly happy with Final Draft.
I have a great suggestion though... take a good look at the outlining/summary and scene writing features of Mariner Software's Montage.  I wish Final Draft had that feature.  Montage could do a little better job of implementing it, but it's a very cool feature.  You write your outine in the screenwriting app, and then write the scene within each outline sequence.  You can disable or enable specific sequences or scenes, move them around, etc.  It's the best and most unique feature of that software, but unfortunately the software is buggy and hasn't been updated in a few years.  Something like that would make me switch.  You have to offer something very unique and compelling to unseat the industry standard.

  • Page Numbers in Adobe Story

I'm writing a script in Adobe Story, but each of my pages has the same number on it, for example 1. How do I default back to having a new page number for each page?
    Thanks.

Manual editing of the page numbers might have put you in this scenario. You can just go to " Production -> Insert header... " , choose the suitable alignment and options and click 'Ok' to bring back the defualt numbering.
Let me know if this solves your problem.

Story does not correctly export fdx file with scene numbers? Bug needs to be fixed.

Okay, Even if i remove the scene numbers from Story and export the file to Final Draft 8. The format in incorrect. The "transitions" ex. CUT TO:  are not in the correct allignment. Also there are numbers on each of the dialogues
Pretty much alot of the formatting is not the same. Spaces  that break dialouge and action which are there in Story, are not converted over to Final Draft.
Please fix this as soon as possible.

  • Adding multiples to clips in Prelude from a Adobe Story file.

I am organizing, commenting, adding metadata and other general functions to my footage that Prelude wonderfully executes.  I also have a script written in Adobe Story that I have opened in Prelude to add scene info and dialogue from there.  Everything is working great except when I try to drag multiple items from the Adobe Script window to the clips.
I have a basic script that appears this way in my Story Window in Prelude,
    Scene No    |              Scene
    1.                     INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
    2.                     INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
    3                      INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT
    4.                     INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
    etc, etc.
The general issue is that most of my footage from the BEDROOM and LIVING room scene were shot in long takes using dialoque from the multiple 'scene numbers' that story has them broken into.  So when I try to drag Scene No 4 - INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT scene onto the clip that already has a Scene No 2 - INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT they just overwrite one another.
Is this an issue I need to solve in Story so all of the same scene is not broken down into multiple scene numbers?  Or is it an issue that can be solved in Prelude.
Thank you for any help or advice.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your post.
Currently Prelude as well as Premiere pro doesn't support applying multiple scenes to one clip, so the new applied scene will overwrite the previous one. For now, please consolidate the scenes in Story. In the meantime, you can send the feature request via http://adobe.com/go/wish .

  • Adobe story and premiere pro CS6

There apparently is an incompatiblity between Abobe Story Plus and Premiere Pro.  How do I "number the scenes" in PP6? In the project window, there is no "number."  Nor in Adobe story, there is no "number" either. I've looked all the way through both. Help!

Subbi - It is still not working. Let me start from the beginning.
    I have uploaded .m2t files in PP6.
I start Story, hit New,  then hit Create.
Then I hit Production>Manage Scene Numbers. Then a new window pops up. I click OK.
Still in Story, in hit File>ExportAs>Adobe Export Interchange Format (.astx)
    Then I hit SAVE.
    Tab over to PP6.
In PROJECT, find the Scene column. Set it to 1. Left click out.
In PROJECT, with the clip selected, right click, scroll down to ATTACH SCRIPT FILE and click.
A new box comes up. Select the .astx file, and click OK.
    It works up to here.
In the Metadata Panel, I don't find the "Embedded Script Metadata," or the Metadata Display. One problem may be part of the old post was referring to PP5.5. I am using PP6.
    Help again!

  • Adobe Story Problems/Questions

    Hi,
I find it very hard to navigate the user forum.  I end up hunting and pecking in search of where I can post the question, so I am going to ask all my questions at once.
    1.  In Final Draft in format options you can select tight/normal/loose.  Is there a way in AS to adjust the screenwriting page format.  It is acceptable (Nicholl screenwriting format to have pages as follows;
    Left, 1.5 inches.  Right, 1.0
inches.  Top, 1.0 inches to the body, 0.5 inches to the number. Bottom, 0.5 to 1.5 inches, depending on where the page break comes.
Adobe Story seems to only give 1" as bottom margin.
Anyway, does AS have a function similar to FD8.
    2.  Also, today I am struggling with exporting AS to FD8.  Even though I have turned of scene and dialogue numbers in AS and even though they can't be seen in AS, they are appearing as random, intermittent numbers in the FD export.  (They do not appear in the pdf export.)  I need to get this fixed ASAP so I can send out the screenplay.
    3.  If we have a Creative Suite subscription, will AS continue to be part of that and no extra charge?
    Thank you.

If you are using a PC, then normally for any program you want to uninstall you go thru the Control Panel to properly remove programs.

  • Scene Numbers not printing

After updating Adobe Story, my scene numbers are now not being printed when I print a document. I can see them in the PDFs that I export, but upon printing the PDF they are not there.
Also, perhaps on a related note, the numbers are pushed far to the left margin of the page. This is not where they used to be.
My current workaround is printing the document at 90% scale, but this is frustrating.

    Hi,
Your previous bug is already fixed and would be available to you in the next release.
Manually changing the scene number should not change the template settings. Is changing the element number position has solved your problem of indentation of scene number and printing?
    Thanks

  • Adobe Story Script integration with Premiere Pro Doesnt allow me to embed the script

Goal:  Embed an Adobe Story Script into Premiere Pro. (mac)
Method:  I have a video with a verbatim transcript.
I inport the transcript into Adobe Story and save it in the proper Adobe Story File extension (.astx)
I save it to the Adobe cloud and I have also exported it to my desktop.
I launch Premiere Pro and import the video that I have transcribed.
The I try one of 3 ways to get the script to the video in PP.
The first steps are the same as below:
I go to Adobe Story and log in from within PP.
    I locate the file.
    I add a Scene.
I make sure the scene is the same as it is within PP
    then...
    1.
I drag and drop it onto the Movie file.
Nothing appears within the Embed Adobe Story Script Meta Data field.
    2.
I click on Analyze and the Embed Adobe Story Script script checkbox remains greyed out (Unable to select it)
If I click Analyze then PP will analyze the script (does a decent job) but this is NOT what I want.  I want to attach the verbatim script to the video which is why I have it transcribed.
    3.
Right click on the movie file within PP and the contextual menu allows me to attach a script.
I locate my downloaded .astx file on my Mac and select it.
Still nothing appears within the Embed Adobe Story Metadata field.
I have worked with Anand from support who suggested I post this question here.
I dont know if there are only certain Adobe templates for which this will work (ie TV script, Film etc)
He suggested that this would most likely work only for the .mov file formats, but then discovered that it should work even for .mp4 files.
In any case - if anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or has experience with this It would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi!
I'm getting crazy  on this. I'm following the worflow suggested in the video (create a script in Story  with the clip transfer, import the clip to Premier, dragging the script to the clip). The clip has the scene number corresponding to the script.
Unfortunately, nothing happens. The "attached script" is empty. And if I do the spech analysis it takes a lot of time (about three times as the original video, although I'm trying to suply a literal transcript).
BTW, what I'm trying to do is to edit the videos from the scripts. I'm working on a documentary, with a lot of footage (30 x 2hs interviews). If I can create the script combining pieces of the inverviews in Story, and then importing it into Premiere. Anybody done something similar?

  • How to change scene numbering schema

Is it possible to change the numbering schema for scenes? For example a sitcom with scene letters A-L or including episode number with scene number like 1.1-1.35 and 2.1-2.25? I'm a new user and so far all I see is automatic numbering 1-10.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
You can easily assign custom scene numbers to a scene by simply clicking on that scene number.
Now for 1.1-1.35 and 2.1-2.25 as scene numbers, Go to the first scene of that episode (say episode 1)and click on the scene number. Assign the custom number as 1.1 to that scene and click 'OK' . Now go to 'Production->Manage Scene Numbers' and check 'Automatically assign number to new scenes'. Now subsequent scenes will have scene numbers as '2.2,2.3,2.4......' .
So simply provide a custom number to first scene of an episode and you will have forthcoming scenes as required.
Give it a shot and do let me know if this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Story support for Chromebook or Android

Any word on Adobe Story support for Chromebook or Android? From what I understand ChromeOS is not much more than an HTML5 browser? I want to get one of the new 8 hour Haswell powered Chromebook laptops this Holiday season under $300. I can understand delaying Adobe Story development on ChromeOS as it is still very small, but Android? There's over 1.5 million Android activations everyday. That's more than the entire population of Canada every month:) .. hard to understand turning a blind eye to these numbers much longer.

UPDATE the web version of Adobe Story runs perfectly on Chromebook, ACER C720 2848 with 2GBs of RAM $199.99 Amazon. Remember to disable any Chrome extensions you might have installed that disable Flash, for instance Flash Block. Also double clicking on the project will not open it, instead click the tiny twirl down triangle next to the Project's name and select, Open from the menu. I wasn't able to install the desktop version (no surprise). This is good news for us that would like a cheap "beater" laptop for scripting that runs more than 8 hours. Now if we only had an Android version of Adobe Story...

Is OnLocation available with CC service? I want to use it with Adobe Story.
I have never had a copy of OnLocation, but it looks to be a great way to manage Adobe Story and the workflow for shoots.
Is there something else that is exports to that works similar to OnLocation?
    help

I see that I can view Adobe Story in two locations of Premiere Pro. As a window and under File, Adobe Story (which is usually grayed out).
I have exported the script as an .astx, Opened PP and clicked file, Adobe Story, Attach Script File ; then I am not sure what to do to see it.
I clicked on Metadata but there is nothing there.
The Window, Adobe Story shows dialog and scene no. and est duration. Is that all I should see? Why the Attach Script File option? And what about seeing the schedule?
    Thx Troy

  • Adobe Story to Prelude issue?

I am trying to save translations in Adobe Story and then attach them to the corresponding clips in Prelude. However, when I open Adobe Story in Prelude it only recognises translation documents that have been saved as Film Scripts and when opening them, there is no text visible? Even trying to drag these documents to the Prelude clips doesn't work? It certainly isn't functioning anything like Wes Plates tutorial video shows?

    Hi,
I have tried various different methods of saving the transaltions. When you import a document, in this case my original documents are MS word files, Story gives you the option of 'selecting document type'. I have tried every option from 'synopsis' and 'summary' to 'film script'...and film script is the only version that regsiters at all when I open up Adobe Story inside Prelude.
Now, I didn't realise  that you couldn't drag a scripot onto the clip...but that is not a big issue, as what I am wanting to do is attach translations to the clips so that when I am cutting in Premiere I can instantly understand what the subjects are saying. However, I can't even drag a 'scene'on the clip as no text at all is showing up when I open up a film script in the story panel in Prelude.
If I  give you my log-in for Adobe story, are you able to have a look at the project and the scripts I have imported and advise me of where I might be making an error?
    Cheers
    Mark
