Scene Selection / Easter egg conflict

I have a hidden easter egg movie on one of my scene selection menus. When I burned the DVD, and selected the easter egg, everything played normally. However, after playing the movie, if I move the selection to an actual scene, then it plays the easter egg movie again, and not the scene that I select. It does this even if I change screens to a different scene selection page and choose one of the other scenes. Has anyone else out there had this problem? Thanks for your help!

Moving around buttons in iDVD can cause this kind of thing. Make sure your buttons are not at all crowded they are in reality a bit bigger than they appear on the screen.
Also check your project in map view to see if it is mixed up on other menu pages.....

  • DVDSP: Creating Easter Eggs via Remote Number Input

In the Star Wars DVDs, you can highlight buttons (such as a THX logo) that seemingly have no target. If you use the remote to input 1138 (11 OR 10+1, enter, 3, enter, 8, enter), however, you're taken to hidden content, such as bloopers, deleted scenes, or dancing Yoda.
Does anyone know how to do that in DVD Studio Pro? I've searched and searched, and all I've found are "hidden button" tutorials, arguments, on-screen number entry, and so on. Not quite what I'm looking for. From what I can tell, entering a number on my remote takes me to the track that corresponds to that number, and before I can hit enter, the track starts playing. Once the track starts playing, I can't enter in any more numbers.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Christian - it's done using hidden buttons.
The buttons can be stacked one on top of the other and then covered over with a logo image. Using the number pad on the handset simply highlights a specific button. Dialling in a sequence of numbers actually moves you to different buttons each time until finally the last button is selected. Pressing enter activates it and the hidden content plays.
An alternative to numbers is to use the navigation keys... use hidden buttons and then make sure that only one direction for each button goes to the next (correct) button in the sequence. All other directions can be set to go to any standard menu button that the user can see. Stack the hidden buttons one over the other and put a final large button over the top of that.
Stacking the buttons means that a computer user cannot accidentally 'mouse over' the hidden buttons and if they do what they'll be able to click on is whatever the top-most button allows. You could use the top most button in the same way as Star Wars uses the THX logo - the start point for the Easter Egg hunt.
    Hope this helps :-)

Thanks Chris   The phone has been great until this morning.  When using the camera it seemed to shut down, then it was just looping the restart, and finally into recovery   It never rains but pours   Thanks anyway

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

Updated iPad 2 last night.  All movies (9) on my iPad can no longer be viewed.  The movie plays but the photos and scene selection are blank. How do I fix this

Quit the app and restart the iPad.
In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Try the videos app again.

  • Scene selection buttons don't work in preview

I edited my movie in iMovie, provided chapter markers that work in iMovie.  "Shared" the completed project to iDVD, which created scene selection buttons for all of the chapter markers and for the beginning.
Now that I have dropped loops onto the buttons, none of them works.  Instead of starting the movie at the appropriate marker, they just display the loop that was dropped onto them.
I do not know if the buttons worked before I dropped loop files onto them.
How do I get the buttons to associate with the chapter markers?

Have you tried publishing to a server?  Sometimes the javascript or flash being run requires your project to be running from a server.  You can not rely on the preview mode to execute scripts which is fustrating because if you are attempting a java window close command it definately won't work when clients try it on their local machine... And still has a good chance of not working when published on a server

  • How to add a second page to scene selections link

I imported a QuickTime that has 12 chapter markers.  iDVD automatically creates the main page that has two links:  "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection".  When I try to burn the DVD, I get an error telling me that the "Scene Selection" page has more than 12 buttons.   If you add the 12 scene titles and the back arrow button, then there are 13 buttons.  Therefore, I must add another page that will contain at least one of the 12 scene titles.  My question is, how can I keep the one main page so that when I click on "Scene Selection", it takes me to a second page that has a few scene titles and also has a page advance arrow that if clicked, will take me to the next page of scene selections.  The only way I can figure out how to do it is to have the main page contain two links: one for scenes 1 - 6 and one for scenes 7 - 12.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help.

On the scene selection page use the "+" button to create a new submenu page:
Select the last scene link, go to the submenu and paste.  Go into the Preview mode and make sure the link works.  Then go to the first scene selection menu and delete that last scene link.
If you copy and paste more than one link to the subkmenu remember the order they are added to that menu determines the order they will be highlighted when using the DVD player's remote device.

  • Chapter name not showing up in Scene Selection

I have an iMovie 9 project that has three chapters.   I've used the Chapter Markers to delineate where they begin and what their names are.
I've sent the finished project to Media Browser and then I go to iDVD to burn the project successfully and all seems well.
The trouble is, the first chapter's name is not showing up in the Scene Selection.   It's just listed as "The Beginning" instead of the name I've given it.  I checked it in the preview function before I burn the DVD, and it's not there, either.  The other two chapters' names show up successfully.
Can anyone help me here?  Thanks.

I just made sure that the Chapter Marker was at the very beginning of the clip, and that seemed to have solved the problem.

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • How can I set 'menu' to return to 2nd menu scene selections?

I have a two page menu. 1. Title page. 2. Scene Selections page. Once we are on the 2nd page, I want the viewer to be able to return to this page when returning from viewing a selection. There is a button on Page 2 to get them back to the main menu if they like.
Is there a way I can set the 1st menu page so that the viewer will return to it by pushing menu.
And likewise, set the 2nd menu page so that the viewer will return to IT by pushing menu.
So each page has a different 'menu' return setting?
    All ears, Ben

You might be able to do this without scripting anything, Ben - the scripts are reasonably simple, but I know you won't want to get into those just yet!
One option is to use stories, and there are different ways to achieve what you want to do. For the sake of example, let's assume you have got ten scenes and at the end of each you want to get back to menu 2...
Create ten stories and add a single chapter into each from your ten available. Set the buttons on menu 2 to point to the corresponding story and then for the story, set the menu call so that you go to Menu 2 and land on the appropriate button. You should set the end jump for each story to also point back to menu 2.
Now, from Menu1 content, point to the track itself and set the menu call for the track to go back to menu 1.
When the viewer accesses the footage from Menu 1 and then uses the Menu button they will go back to menu 1. If they navigate to Menu 2 and access a single scene, that scene will play and go back to Menu 2 when done. If they press menu during the scene, they will also get back to menu 2.
    Job done.
Now, if you want to do this in a better way, you only need to create a single story and drop ALL of your chapter markers into it. This will become the main feature where everything plays. Set the end jump and menu calls to go to Menu1. On Menu 1, set the buttons to target the content insode the story container.
To get a single scene to play you add end jumps to the chapter markers in the track (click on the marker, look in the property inspector or in the 'Connections' tab). Set the end jumps to Menu2 and the Menu command to Menu 2 as well. From menu 2 you point your buttons to the specific marker.
This also gets the job done, and neither method needed a script

  • Some of my scenes selection menus won't turn or play sound.

My main menu and the first scene selection menu has motion and sound, but the rest of the scene selection menus do not turn or play sounds (music).  How can I get them to work?

First create a disk image of the project and see if those menus work as expected when played with DVD Player on your Mac.  If they do then the problem lies in the burning process.
Follow the workflow described below to help assure the best quality disk possible:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • White box over my scene selection arrow!!!

Does anyone know how to correct this problem? For some reason, this white box has shown up over my "direction right" arrow in the scene selection section of my dvd project. This also shows up after burning and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of it. Thanks for the help! You can find the screenshot here - http://gallery.filefront.com/deathcap//67132/

Hmmm, not sure about this one.
Try moving your 'Treasure Island' title away from the arrow.
Slide it to the left. Also try shrinking the size of your text.

  • Highlight buttons in scene selection

    Hi guys-
I'm fairly new to DVDSP and had a question about highlighting. For a scene selection I'm using, I selected a template and chose to use that. When I went to simulate, I found that there were no highlights on each scene and I couldn't see where I was navigating to. When I select a shape to use, it erases the thumbnail. Any thoughts on how to easily create a highlight around the thumbnail and/or the text on the button? Thanks!
    -Jack

I totally agree with everyone here about the sound problem! I called yesterday and was told "no one else has said there is a problem!" I should check the forums! I paid for the policy on this machine and I expect to be helped. Is Apple going to become another Windows? The reason I use their products is because they use Americans to respond to our problems and they fix things quickly!
I have been making DVDs for 2 years and not until IDVD 6 have I had a problem. I too have burned the projects several times and NO SOUND!
The "person" at the "support" line was condesending and acted like I had the problem! Asked stupid questions like "are you using the right disk to burn it, duh! How do I unistall and go back to IDVD 5?
Wake up Apple and fix this problem NOW!

  • Editing Scene Selection Buttons

I am trying to create a Disc Menu in Premiere Elements 9 but I can't seem to edit the buttons for the scene selections.
The basic problem is that the titles for my scenes are a little long so it looks sloppy underneath the video image.  Really, if it would allow me to center the text underneath the video image that appears, that would solve my problem.  If that's not possible, just removing the video image could work as well.  Is there any way to edit these buttons other than just font, size, and color?
Also, whenever I try to change the font for the "Play All" and "Scene Selection" button on the main page, the text disappears.  Am I doing something wrong?

Unfortunately, you can not change the alignment of text on a disc menu without opening up the template itself and manually changing it.You can only change the font, style and color for each block of text.
I don't know why you can't edit the Play All and Scene Selection buttons. You should be able to . At least on most disc menu templates. You may have applied a disc menu template that's the exception -- quite possibly because the text block is locked or is a graphic rather than true text.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - unable to select a "poster frame" for DVD Menu - Scene Selection

I've tried a number of different DVD menu themes and the problem is the same for all.  The Scene Selections don't seem to provide any way to include a graphic for the poster frame.  Have been able to provide a menu background with no problem.  Interestingly, the poster frame section of the menu edit fields appears to be somewhat truncated (the spot where you would expect the "drag media here" shows only the bottom portion of a box with no wording and the input is truncated at 00;00;0 with the fifth zero partially cut off.
Any one else seen this?  I know I've provided graphics for the scene buttons in the past but cannot seem to get past this situation this time.
    Thanks

In Adobe Encore (the authoring program, included with PrPro), one can set the Poster Frame for non-Motion Thumbnails.
For showing a different Clip, in Motion Thumbnails, one must create Menus, that have a Video background, that just looks like it has Motion Thumbnails - they are actually PiP in the Video background.
I do not know about the often touted Sony DVD Architect, regarding setting Poster Frames.
PrE's authoring control is a bit limited, and is designed to get the "average" Project authored, with few navigational bells and whistles.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
