Scene Selections on DVDs

Since iMovie 08 doesn't have chapter markers, I exported a project of iMovie HD into iDVD 08. The markers all turned into scene selections which I wanted. However, I would like to choose which scene is played on the selection menu. I clicked on the item which gave me a slider to choose which part of the clip to display in the scene selection menu. Unfortunately, for all 12 of my scenes, when I do this, it only displays scenes from the first clip each time.
So if I try to edit what scenes are displayed in the menu, I only have a choice of the first scene for all 12 of my clips.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I am not making myself clear, but I appreciate the responses so far.
In iLife 06, using chapters in iMovie, I was able to export to iDVD. Using the chapters, iDVD would create scenes on a "scene selection" menu on the DVD, just like we have "chapter selections on professional movies.
In 06, I was able to specify which part of the scene I wanted displayed in the thumbnails. I understand that it is one big clip, however, I still had total control over what scene was played on the scene selection menu.
Now, with iDVD 08, each clip shows up with it's appropriate scene selection. It shows the first few seconds of EACH chapter by default. However, when I try to use the slider to show a different part of that particular chapter, it does have a mind of it's own and each scene, or clip, reverts to the first few seconds of the first clip. So, on a DVD with 6 scene selections, they all now only contain the first clip 6 times, because I tried to use the slider to show certain parts of each clip.
If anyone knows how to post screen shots, please tell me and I will do it.
Thanks again.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - unable to select a "poster frame" for DVD Menu - Scene Selection

I've tried a number of different DVD menu themes and the problem is the same for all.  The Scene Selections don't seem to provide any way to include a graphic for the poster frame.  Have been able to provide a menu background with no problem.  Interestingly, the poster frame section of the menu edit fields appears to be somewhat truncated (the spot where you would expect the "drag media here" shows only the bottom portion of a box with no wording and the input is truncated at 00;00;0 with the fifth zero partially cut off.
Any one else seen this?  I know I've provided graphics for the scene buttons in the past but cannot seem to get past this situation this time.
    Thanks

In Adobe Encore (the authoring program, included with PrPro), one can set the Poster Frame for non-Motion Thumbnails.
For showing a different Clip, in Motion Thumbnails, one must create Menus, that have a Video background, that just looks like it has Motion Thumbnails - they are actually PiP in the Video background.
I do not know about the often touted Sony DVD Architect, regarding setting Poster Frames.
PrE's authoring control is a bit limited, and is designed to get the "average" Project authored, with few navigational bells and whistles.

  • Last Scene Selection Will Play on the Burned DVD

I only have two scene selections. If you are in the iDVD project, you are able to click on either scene selection and they play fine.  After I burn onto a dvd, the 2nd scene selection will not play.  The movie is 55:45 min.  and I chose "Prof. Qual."

  • I would like to create chapters within my footage for Scene selection on the DVD menu

I have edited footage using FCPX and exported it to allow me to use it in IDVD. I now would like to set chapter markers so that the DVD menues allow for scene selection. I believe that I may have to do this in FCPX before exporting it
Can you tell me how to do it.
    Thank you

This is one of the most embarrassing omissions in FCP X. There is no proper facility to add chapter markers and export them with your movie.
The way I get around it is to make each chapter a separate project in its own right. I then export each of the chapters and when I bring them into my DVD Authoring application, it's a synch to add the chapter markers (between each file on the timeline) with precision.
As you've already created your project (presumably in one hit) create a new project for each chapter then copy and paste the relevant clips into each 'chapter' project, then export.
Alternatively, you can add chapter markers from within the preview window in Compressor if you have it - but it's quite fiddley and not very precise.

  • Scene selection freezes burned dvd

    Hello,
I recently burned an iDVD project that was about an hour long. The finished burned dvd plays on a dvd player when I press play from the menu. However, when I try to go to the scene selection sub menu I created, it will not work. In fact, when I try to go to a specific scene, the whole dvd freezes up in the dvd player. Any ideas on how to try burning the iDVD project so that the finished product has a working scene selection? Thanks as always.

    Hi
+If I was unable to produce a successful disc image with a working scene selection (the freezing happened when I played the image too), does that mean I have a bigger issue than just Memorex vs. Verbatim? I have a feeling that even if I buy the Verbatim, the scene selection will freeze because it froze on the disc image anyway.+
YES. If the DiskImage don't work. Don't burn it onto DVDs.
The problem is in the process to make the DVD in iDVD.
eg using .avi movie files, .mp3 sound etc.
    a. secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk
    (other ones of no importance)
    b. Versions of Mac OS, iDVD and QuickTime (important) up to date
    c. Material to build DVD from only.
    • streamingDV (video+audio)
    • .aiff (audio eg from audio-CDs)
    • .jpg (photos - I use this)
Nothing else - convert it to match
    d. START a new iDVD project and make Your DVD-design and then a DiskImage
    e. Test this with Apple DVD-player
Does it work - burn it with either

  • DVD menu without a scene selection option?

    Hi all,
I'm new to Premiere Elements 12, and I just finished a video. I want to add a menu with my own photograph that has an option to play movie, but no option for scene selection. When I use Premiere's templates, I can't get rid of scene selection (it's not necessary for this video because it's so short). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    emmaarmer
Do not use scene markers on the Timeline content and you should not get any Scene Selection button on the main menu and you should not have any scene selection pages.
You will just end up with a main menu page with a Play button.
If you situation is different for some reason, please give more details including the specific Premiere Elements 12 Movie Menu that you are selecting.
    Thanks.

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • How to add a second page to scene selections link

I imported a QuickTime that has 12 chapter markers.  iDVD automatically creates the main page that has two links:  "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection".  When I try to burn the DVD, I get an error telling me that the "Scene Selection" page has more than 12 buttons.   If you add the 12 scene titles and the back arrow button, then there are 13 buttons.  Therefore, I must add another page that will contain at least one of the 12 scene titles.  My question is, how can I keep the one main page so that when I click on "Scene Selection", it takes me to a second page that has a few scene titles and also has a page advance arrow that if clicked, will take me to the next page of scene selections.  The only way I can figure out how to do it is to have the main page contain two links: one for scenes 1 - 6 and one for scenes 7 - 12.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help.

On the scene selection page use the "+" button to create a new submenu page:
Select the last scene link, go to the submenu and paste.  Go into the Preview mode and make sure the link works.  Then go to the first scene selection menu and delete that last scene link.
If you copy and paste more than one link to the subkmenu remember the order they are added to that menu determines the order they will be highlighted when using the DVD player's remote device.

  • Chapter name not showing up in Scene Selection

I have an iMovie 9 project that has three chapters.   I've used the Chapter Markers to delineate where they begin and what their names are.
I've sent the finished project to Media Browser and then I go to iDVD to burn the project successfully and all seems well.
The trouble is, the first chapter's name is not showing up in the Scene Selection.   It's just listed as "The Beginning" instead of the name I've given it.  I checked it in the preview function before I burn the DVD, and it's not there, either.  The other two chapters' names show up successfully.
Can anyone help me here?  Thanks.

I just made sure that the Chapter Marker was at the very beginning of the clip, and that seemed to have solved the problem.

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • Some of my scenes selection menus won't turn or play sound.

My main menu and the first scene selection menu has motion and sound, but the rest of the scene selection menus do not turn or play sounds (music).  How can I get them to work?

First create a disk image of the project and see if those menus work as expected when played with DVD Player on your Mac.  If they do then the problem lies in the burning process.
Follow the workflow described below to help assure the best quality disk possible:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • White box over my scene selection arrow!!!

Does anyone know how to correct this problem? For some reason, this white box has shown up over my "direction right" arrow in the scene selection section of my dvd project. • Highlight buttons in scene selection

    Hi guys-
I'm fairly new to DVDSP and had a question about highlighting. For a scene selection I'm using, I selected a template and chose to use that. When I went to simulate, I found that there were no highlights on each scene and I couldn't see where I was navigating to. When I select a shape to use, it erases the thumbnail. Any thoughts on how to easily create a highlight around the thumbnail and/or the text on the button? Thanks!

I totally agree with everyone here about the sound problem! I called yesterday and was told "no one else has said there is a problem!" I should check the forums! I paid for the policy on this machine and I expect to be helped. Is Apple going to become another Windows? The reason I use their products is because they use Americans to respond to our problems and they fix things quickly!
I have been making DVDs for 2 years and not until IDVD 6 have I had a problem. I too have burned the projects several times and NO SOUND!
The "person" at the "support" line was condesending and acted like I had the problem! Asked stupid questions like "are you using the right disk to burn it, duh! How do I unistall and go back to IDVD 5?

  • Scene selection problems in idvd 06

The scene selection menu works fine in the dvd preview, but during playback on the burned dvd, I'm not able to access alternate scenes from that menu. The dvd starts at the beginning of the project no matter which scene I've selected.

First thing to do is run some basic maintenance on your system. See here for what to do and free downloadable apps to do it...
    http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html
Next, after you clean up the system, load in your iDVD project and use the "Delete Encoded Assetts" menu command. Then try re-encoding/burning your project again. Although this time you might want to do it to a disk image first, check to make sure the disk image plays correctly, and if so then put that disk image on an actual blank.

  • Scene Selection Missing in Action

My production of a DVD of movie clips did not successfully include chapters in Scene Selection.
In iMovie, I highlighted movie clips in the clip viewer and added chapter markers via the button below the Chapters panel. The yellow diamonds showed up in the # column of the Chapters panel but in the timeline panel only at the beginning and end (I think).
I then “Shared” the iMovie with iDVD. I tried to get a preview of the movie in playback mode, but the Scene Selection button was not active. There was no filled-in yellow circle adjacent to Scene Selection. Pay Movie did have the yellow circle. I burned a disk image anyway and then burned a DVD using Disk Utility. The movie plays but without the Scene Selection working. I am, however, able to “tab” from chapter to chapter with the “virtual remote”
I must be missing a step. Any ideas?
I am confused in one other area. When I highlight a clip and click on the Add Marker button, does the chapter marker always go at the beginning of the clip? Somehow I got one to be entered at the end of a clip.

What you indicate helps. The chapter markers are now shown in the timeline and the Scene Selection in iDVD shows the yellow filled-in circle. But, in Playback mode, clicking on the Scene Selection yellow circle does not allow navigation to the scene menu. The map view show the proper layout, including the 0:00:0 icon for the start. However, the scene selection icon is generic. It does not show my movie. The chapter icons do show my movie. Clcking on the generic scene selection icon does show the selection menu with my movie. And they can be clicked and played.
    Your ideas will be appreciated.
