SCEP standalone client not updating

Hi All
I have standalone SCEP installed clients which do not reboot, however I have noticed that the clients are not updating their definitions they have been sitting there 5 days now and no updates applied.
The policy is to look at a UNC path followed by Microsoft but the client does not. The Definition Update Policy is also set to check for definitions everyone 4 hours, my understanding was if it cannot find definitions at the UNC path then it should go to
Microsoft to receive the updates.  I have also set it to force a definition update if the computer is offline for more than two consecutive scheduled updates.
Any ideas please ?

How did you deploy policy for them?
Are you sure policies been applied to these endpoints?
Try change priority to first check Microsoft Update website and then UNC and see whether it makes any different or not?

  • Some Clients Not Updating. Reporting "Compliant." hr=8007000E Error in WindowsUpdate.log

I have a significant number (but not all) of my SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 clients not updating though my SCCM software updates. On these problem clients, I get this error in WindowsUpdate.log:
    "COMAPI WARNING: ISusInternal::GetUpdateMetadata2 failed, hr=8007000E"
Then these machines report "Compliant" even though they don't install the updates. Almost all of our workstations are Windows 7 SP1 32bit. We are running SCCM 2012 R2 CU3. My site servers are running Windows 2008 R2.
I don't see much in WUAhandler.log or scanagent.log. These client are however, getting my SCEP definition updates just fine. (I have an ADR for those.) And when you go out to Microsoft for security updates it works. I have tried all of the usual Windows
Updates repair suggestions (re-register dlls, rename software distribution folder, etc.) And I tried un-installing and re-installing the SCCM client on a problem PC, to no avail. I also tried using a Software Update Group with fewer updates (<100) and targeting
a problem system with only that SUG, to no avail.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi all,
One of the bigger nuissances of this particular bug is that it's hard to identify from a central location that you've fallen victim to it. Without spot-checking client machines you'd be none-the-wiser. This most likely results in a lot of shops out their
thar are completely unaware they have a security issue with a false sense of "fully patched" security.
I've create the following guidelines to identify whether you are indeed one of the victims.
    create a script configuration item.
Select All Windows 7 32 bit as the supported platform
Use String as the data type
Choose powershell as your script language of choice
Paste the following text in the discovery script:select-string-pattern'GetWARNING:
    ISusInternal::GetUpdateMetadata2 failed, hr=8007000E'-path"$env:windir\windowsupdate.log"
Add the configuration item to a Configuration baseline
Deploy the configuration baseline to All Windows 7 32bit machines
The report list of assets by compliance state for a given baseline is a good report to check the results.
!!!! Any machines reporting compliant to this baseline have a serious issue as they won't install any software updates, yet report compliant on all !!!!
    Good luck
Hi, Does the configuration item need any kind of compliance rule setup to make it work?

  • SCEP 2012 definitions not updating on few clients

    Hi!
The SCEP 2012 definitions are not updating on few clients. It works for all other machines.
In MPLog i can only see that Signature update on date but not a line saying Signature updated via ...
Its not telling me where it got the updates in past and why its not updating now..
The definitions are pushed via SCCM, WSUS and MS not unc shares.
Which log file i should look for to get some answers why its not updating.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can check C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file to find the related error information.
In addition, did you configure an automatic deployment rule to deliver definition updates? If yes, I recommend you to make sure that all the clients are in the collection.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • SCEP definitions do not update on Secondary site server

Issue:  Win 2008R2 server - Secondary site server - SCEP is installed, but it cannot find/download/install any virus definitions.  When attempting to hit "update" within the SCEP console, it returns no results.  When attempting to
check online for Win Updates via control panel, no virus def updates are found (but 11 different updates are found for .NET and other things).
The error that is thrown in the Windows Updates log when attempting to update through the SCEP console is Error: 0x80248014. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832355/en-us  Although this
applies to Windows 8, I still checked the settings per the article.  My settings check out okay.
No error is thrown when attempting to check for updates via Windows Update in the control panel.  It finds 11 available updates (none of which are SCEP related), and displays them properly.
This server has the CCM2012 client installed, and the Anti-Malware policy has been successfully applied.  We have a separate Anti-Malware policy that is applied only to our SCCM site servers.  The policy indicates that all virus defs are to be
obtained from Microsoft online Update.  Our primary site server does not display this problem.  It is updating automatically with no issues.
It is possible to manually download and apply the latest virus definitions by visiting the MS virus defs site and running the manual update installer.  I have only done this to ensure that the virus defs are somewhat current.
Steps taken:  I have removed SCEP and re-installed it.  I have also attempted the Windows Update "Fix-it" found here.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
Error 0x80248014 persists when attempting an update through the SCEP console, and no SCEP related updates are found by Microsoft online Update.
Any suggestions on what I might try next?

    Thank you for the reply.
Well, the issue with this secondary site server isn't 100% fixed, but your line of questions pushed me in a direction that allowed me to put a Band-Aid on it.  That said, it is updating the virus defs - although not exactly as it should be.  But,
this is good enough for me now.
To answer some of your questions that seem relevant.  This is a fairly new SCCM setup. Our implementation of SCCM currently is not configured to handle any Software Updates yet.  We still rely on a separate WSUS server in our environment for all
WinUpdates (including SCEP/FEP).  With that in mind, the Anti-Malware policy that is applied to both SCCM servers use the following 2 locations in order for obtaining SCEP updates:
    1) MS online Updates  2)WSUS
As mentioned previously, the secondary site never detected updates via SCEP console or WinUpdates via Control Panel.  But this did not explain why it could not retrieve from WSUS.
A quick look at our WSUS setup shows that auto-approval is configured for all of our workstations, but not our servers.  I corrected this within WSUS - Forced GPUpdate on the site server - ran wuauclt /detectnow on the site server - Now, the virus defs
were found and could be installed.  (I'll have to wait a little while to see if it continues to update automatically as it should)
So, as I mentioned above - the big problem of not updating at all is corrected, however the issue still remains "why are no updates found from MS Updates online?"
At this point - I don't know, but as long as it updates in some fashion, I'm good with that.

  • Windows 8 clients not updating via SCCM?

I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 and SCCM 2012 R2 (v5.0.7958.1000) and am trying to deploy updates to a Windows 8.1 client but am not having any joy, I keep getting errors within the WindowsUpdate.log.

  • Clients Not Updating After Migration from Server 10.7 to 10.8 (update to cashing server)

My school has been providing updates using Update Server on Lion.  With the update to Mountain Lion Server we switched to Cashing Server for updates and I removed the WG Manager (please no lecutres on WGM, I am transitioning) setting that pointed to the Update Server.  Some of my clients are not updating now.  My guess is that they are still looking to my update server.
Is this an accurate diagnosis and how can I clear out this pointer?

  • SCEP client not updating settings after policy retrieval

I have a computer assigned a SCEP policy, that seems to have been found and Applied fine by the SCCM Client, looking at the registry.
I find the policy in the regkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\EPAgent\GeneratedPolicy, With the DWORD values
Just a test to my computer (Excluded)                   REG_DWORD         0x00000002 (2)
Just a test to my computer (Scan Schedule)           REG_DWORD         0x00000002 (2)
What I have configured in this test policy is just "Limit CPU usage during scan to: 10%" and "Start the scheduled scan only when my PC is on but not in use"
But the SCEP Client, in the settings, do not show the correct settings. The CPU limit setting is set to 20% and the "Start the scheduled scan" setting is unchecked, these settings come from the "Default Client Antimalware Policy"

  • SCEP Antimalware Client Version update

So we have SCCM 2012 and are deploying SCEP definition updates using an ADR which basically looks like this:
My client was built a long time ago and when i launch the SCEP client on my machine and go to help > about I see an Antimalware client version of 4.5.216.0.
I just imaged a workstation using SCCM 2012 OSD and installed SCEP as part of the task sequence using the SCEPINSTALL.EXE that is part of the SCCM client installation package and the antimalware client version on this machine is 4.6.305.0.
Both machines seem to have the same engine version and definition versions.
Is there anyway I can update the antimalware client version using the ADR above by adding anything extra?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

SCCM 2012´s SCEP is a 2012 version product, not 2010 like in that Product Class of yours. That info comes from WSUS class.
Try MS Update catalog if you cannot find anything in All Software Updates Node.

that guide states to select FEP 2010... has this changed with one of the recent CU's?

When using Server-Side Targeting, this value should be at least 2 hours. Based on the above three observations, I recommend the following response:
Verify that the routing table is correct and that requests for 172.16/16 are actually leaving on the correct NIC.
Change the Detection Frequency to at least 2 hours (until you fix the communication issue it might as well be 22 hours!).
    Run wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow.
If the 0x80070002 error persists, do the following:
    Stop the Windows Update service.
    Rename %windir%\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.OLD.
    Start the Windows Update service.
Run wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow and observe the results. If the issue is resolved, copy the ReportingEvents.log from SoftwareDistribution.OLD back to the new SoftwareDistribution.
If the issue is not resolved, post that detection event for further analysis.

  • Lookout "Client" Not Updating with Correct Numbers

We have Lookout 6.6 processes running on full development servers at separate locations.  At Station  1, Lookout is communicating with plcs collecting data. The data here is updating properly.  At Station 2, we have expressions looking at data on the Lookout process running at Station 1.  At Station 2, our expression might look something like this:
\\192.168.201.10\processname\modbus1.30001  192.168.201.10 is the static IP address of the Lookout computer at Station 1.
If for some reason the computer at Station 2 is restarted, the value of the expression shown above will often times be incorrect when Lookout comes back up.  It will stay incorrect until the actual value of the expression changes at Station 1, or we modify the expression at Station 2 and type it in exactly as it was.  Somehow, this forces the expression to update and the value will be corrected.  This is causing significant problems because we cannot rely on the values shown at Station 2 to be correct on signals that aren't continuously changing.
I have installed the latest Logos engine (via a Lookout 6.7.2 install) to try and address this issue, and it does appear to be better, but the problem is still occurring.  The problem is not an inability to communicate between Station 1 and  Station 2, because modifying the expression at Station 2 to be exactly as it was causes the numbers to properly update.
Any suggestions to address this problem will be appreciated very much.
    Jeff Miller

    Thanks for the reply Ryan.
All updates for 6.0.2 are current.
I updated the hyper.cbx as noted in your post.
This did not seem to correct the problem.
We do not have any of the client laptop firewalls turned on.  If I turn the server firewall on, I can't connect to the client laptops.(Seperate issue that I will deal with in another post.)
I turned the firewalls for the client laptops on and added the following exceptions to the the firewall exceptions list.
    C:\Windows\system32\lkads.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\lktsrv.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\nicitdl.exe
    C:\Windows\system32\nicitdl5.exe
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Lookout x.x\lookout.exe
I can now connect and get the Hypertrend to work.
The first couple of times the trending was slow but by turning the
trend off, the trend would slowly load.  It is now a lot faster and
probably is restricted, now by the modem speed.
    Thanks for your help.

Hi, I believe I have configured the server correctly,as per the numerous online instructions, but I just cannot get any of our clients to appear in the WSUS console.
I'm attaching the contents of one of the client logs in case this can shed light on it:

  • Clients not updating from new WSUS server

I had 2 DCs in place running 2008 and 2003. The 2003 server was also running WSUS. It has been replaced with a 2012 R2 Essentials server which is now the FSMO holder and I installed WSUS on it using the standard options like I always do. Administration
    runs on 8530.
I updated the GPOs with the new server's name. All clients can ping the WSUS server by name. All clients are reporting to the server and updates have been approved days ago. However none of the clients, including the server itself, are seeing any new updates
available even though the WSUS console shows they are reporting.
I've searched the registry of the 2008 DC for references to the old WSUS server and none were found. I looked in the registry key where you would find the value put there from the GPO and it correctly shows the current WSUS server.
I looked in the windowsupdate log on the 2008 DC and I don't see any errors. So I'm stumped as to why the clients can at least see the WSUS server and report to it but they aren't seeing the approved updates. Any ideas?
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,
Have you checked if the update is downloaded successfully? The update will not be available until it has been downloaded on the WSUS server.
    Best Regards.

Yes the updates have all downloaded as verified in the WSUS console. So the updates are there, the clients are reporting in and showing what updates they need, but what is not happening is that final connection so you see the little "pending updates"
icon in the system tray. I've done wuauclt /detectnow many times (used to doing this with other sites I manage) and had WU check for updates but it always shows none available.

  • Clients not updating Software updates

    Hello -
I've got my Software Update Server all configured, I think, correctly.
Updates are downloading (71 downloaded so far, 71 available)
Have pointed my clients at the server using Workgroup manager (computer group) and following instructions on page 89 of the manual. ie entering :
    http://su.domain_name.com:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.
    sucatalog
as the server address (replacing the s.domain_name with my hostname)
But when clients connect - they say that their software us up to date - even though one is on 10.6.1 and the others are on Safari 4.0.3. They are successfully connecting to my SUS (my hostname appears in the title bar of Software Update on the client.
I have check the preference files at /Library/Preferences and the output of
    defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL
    is
    http://**MY HOSTNAME**:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog
There is also a preference file in /Library/Managed Preferences with the same setting
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I had this same issue today. Apple support walked me through "completely resetting" the Software Update service and it worked. You need to stop Software update on the server, remove the contents of /var/db/swupd/html and /etc/swupd, restart the server and re-setup software update. This will cause all of the updates to download again.
However, I am curious what really fixed the problem and wonder if anyone who still has the problem can confirm this for me? If you look in the /var/db/swupd/html folder, are there 3 symbolic links in the folder for the tiger/leopard/snow lepoard catalogs? (See below...)
    lrwxr-xr-x 1 _softwareupdate _softwareupdate 87 Nov 19 14:19 index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog -> /var/db/swupd/html/content/catalogs/others/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.s ucatalog
    lrwxr-xr-x 1 _softwareupdate _softwareupdate 75 Nov 19 14:19 index-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog -> /var/db/swupd/html/content/catalogs/others/index-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
    lrwxr-xr-x 1 _softwareupdate _softwareupdate 51 Nov 19 14:19 index.sucatalog -> /var/db/swupd/html/content/catalogs/index.sucatalog
Try recreating them if they are not there and trying again. Let us all know if it works or if my hypothesis is incorrect.

  • Outlook 2007 client reacurrance calendar not updating in mailbox

    Hello,
Using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2007 client. User has access to a shared Calendar in Public Folder. She makes an Recurrence Appt in Public Folder and invites herself to Appt. If she changes one of the future apt (Location change or something like that) it
updates the Public Folder but not hers. I added myself to this apt and I am using Outlook 2013 and my apt does indeed update. I also can see in "Outlook Web Access" has updated, so just the Outlook 2007 client not updated.
Any thought into why? Unable to Upgrade to user to Outlook 2013 until New year for other reasons.
    thank you for any help.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
Please first make sure she has installed all available updates for Outlook 2007.
In addition, please have the user temporarily turn off his antivirus and test again.
If still no luck, we may try testing with a new Outlook profile. See:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918
Please let me know the result.
