Schedule Report in Oracle SQL Developer
Just wonder if Oracle SQL Developer has capability to setup a schedule to run reports automatically as Microsoft*SQL does.
Please advise.
No, but its a feature request we see regularly. Check out the feature requests at http://SQLDeveloper.oracle.com.

Is it possible to query software inventory report for Oracle SQL developer installation?
Hi all
My company requires to generate a report of all kinds of Oracle database access tool. I can find Toad installation from Add/Remove Program and therefore can query for Toad.
However, Oracle SQL developer is using Java. I cannot see an entry for Oracle SQL developer from Add/Remove Program. Is there a way to query inventory for Oracle SQL developer installation?
Thanks a lot.
Regards
LicYou might be able to use software inventory to report on the version of sqldeveloper.exe.
As the app looks like just a zip you extract to a custom location that might be one method. -
Oracle SQL Developer and Errors (Line Number Incorrect)
First, I wanted to state that Oracle SQL Developer 2 is a standout job.
I wanted to report, though, that when Oracle SQL Developer 2 can't compile a block of code or a simple SQL statement has invalid syntax, it does not have an option to accurately go to the line of code in question. GOING TO the erroneous line of code doesn't need to be a feature, but often times the line no. REPORTED by Oracle SQL Developer is incorrect by 50+ lines.
Is this something I could fix on my end? I have five other developers griping about this.
Thank you!I don't know if this is the situation you are talking about, but line numbers for errors in SQL in a SQL Worksheet are not line numbers within the statement but rather line numbers in the worksheet. For example, with the following SQL in the worksheet:
select * from dual;
select * from dual;
select * from dual;
select from dual;Running the "select from dual;" statement (as either statement based on cursor position, selected statement or as script), the error is reported on Line 4, Column 7. As I show line numbers (Tools | Preferences | Code Editor | Line Gutter | Show Line Numbers), this makes sense. Without line numbers showing or having the option to go to the error and with more realistic examples with SQL statements scrolling off the page, I can see that the line number in the errors wouldn't be helpful.
I think -K- is talking about the PL/SQL code editors not reporting the correct line number based on the error line not counting the "create or replace" line at the start of a package (and more for triggers).

Oracle SQL developer tool vs toad
Hi - I am trying to do a feature comparison on these 2 tools and am not very familiar with them could someone please tell me if Oracle SQL developer tool has these features:
Project Manager
Result Set Compare
Chart Designer
Toad Report Wizard
Pivot & Chart
Data Compare and Synch
Automation
Simple Cross-Platform Queries
Advanced Cros-Platform Queries
Local Data Storage
Data Transformation and Cleansing
Data Browser
ER Diagrammer
Charts & Pivot Table Reports
Automation & Scheduling Engine
Data Compare & Sync
Cross-connection QueryHi!
I have worked with several Oracle IDE's in the past:
* TOAD
* PL/SQL Developer
* Navigator
* SQL/Developer
Right now I tend to do most of my work with SQL-Developer and only some tasks with TOAD.
SQL-Developer feels faster and has a cleaner interface than TOAD, while TOAD has better tools.
Im currently publishing a series of tips for SQL-Developer in my blog:
http://oracledeli.wordpress.com/
Some of the posts are focussing on overcomming SQL-developers disadvantages versus TOAD:
* SQL-Developer: Using macros http://oracledeli.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/sql-developer_using_macros/
* Execute current worksheet file via SQL*Plus (external tools) http://oracledeli.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/sql-developer_execute_via_sqlplus/

How to see job section in "Oracle SQL Developer"
Hi,
I am using oracle SQL developer to connect to oracle instance unlike procedure,tables,views i am not able to see job section (we have can see in toad as job section) please help me to get locate the same.There's no support for jobs yet. Vote on the existing feature requests at the SQL Developer Exchange if you want to add weight for future implementation.
If you have trouble handling them manually, you can always ask help on the SQL And PL/SQL forum...
Thanks,
K.

BTW, there are some job reports (Reports - All Reports - Data Dictionary Reports - Jobs), but those will list only DBMS_JOB stuff, not the DBMS_SCHEDULER ones.
You can also create your own reports and/or User Defined Extensions to add a Jobs node inside the connection navigator, but that's for more advanced users... -
If you haven't been paying attention to early adopters of Project Raptor there it is - production release of Oracle SQL Developer, outstanding database development tool. It works very well with XE and if you're somehow reluctant to web interface or too ascetic sqlplus, you shall certainly like it. Very useful and at no charge.
Oracle SQL Developer is a new, free graphical tool that enhances productivity and simplifies database development tasks. With SQL Developer, you can browse database objects, run SQL statements and SQL scripts, and edit and debug PL/SQL statements. You can also run any number of provided reports, as well as create and save your own.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.htmlI use SQL Developer for SQL and PL/SQL and only use SQL*Plus for the few commands that don't work in SQL Developer.
SQL Developer has a forum, too. -
BUG in Oracle SQL Developer 3.0.04 on the "generating DLL" with comments?
I'm newbie on oracle, but I think that I found out a bug in Oracle SQL Developer version 3.0.04 on the "generating DLL" tool using "comments".
I will describe the steps that I gave:
I created a view, but after I test it I had to change my “where” condition, so I comment the old code and then I wrote the new “where” condition below. After I done that I tried to look at the sql code of my view using “generating DLL” tool, but oracle sql developer only shown me half of the code, a lot of code were missing. Then I began with some test trying to understand what happen and I notice that if I put an invalid sql code in my comment the generating DLL start working with no problems, for example(pseudo-code):
(COMMENT WITH VALID SQL CODE the "Generating SQL" don't work:)
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
AS
SELECT column1, column2
FROM table1
INNER JOIN
(SELECT
FROM table2
INNER JOIN .....
INNER JOIN ....
--where time_stamp = (select max(time_stamp) from .....)
WHERE time_stamp >= TRUNC(sysdate)
) t1 ON t1.ID = ....
AND ..... >= TRUNC(sysdate)
ORDER BY ....
Generating DLL returns this(when the error occurs):
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
AS
(COMMENT WITH VALID SQL CODE the "Generating SQL" work with no problems:)
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
AS
SELECT column1, column2
FROM table1
INNER JOIN
(SELECT
FROM table2
INNER JOIN .....
INNER JOIN ....
--where
WHERE time_stamp >= TRUNC(sysdate)
) t1 ON t1.ID = ....
AND ..... >= TRUNC(sysdate)
ORDER BY ....
I believe that "Generating DLL" tool have some problem with the comments, I also used /*...*/ to comment but the problem is still active.
I notice as well that if I started to add some more comments along the code, the conditions migth change, so I think the problem is related with "comments" code.
Would you mind telling me if this is a real bug or if I'm doing anything wrong.
Thank you in advance,
Rodrigo Campos
Edited by: 894886 on 3/Nov/2011 5:29Hi Rodrigo,
Thank you for reporting this. The only bug I see currently logged on a comment affecting the generated View DDL involves ending the last line of the definition with a comment, which treats the ending semi-colon (even if on a different line) as part of the comment. That is actually related to a low-priority bug against an Oracle database API.
Unfortunately, your pseudo-code is a bit complex. Trying a few quick, simpler tests against the standard HR schema did not reproduce the issue. I tried INNER JOIN, and nested SELECTs. It would help greatly if you could provide a test case compilable against one of the standard schema, like HR or SCOTT.

Differences between TOAD for Oracle and Oracle SQL Developer?
Does someone know the advantages and disadvantages of using TOAD for Oracle and Oracle SQL Developer?
I work making reports with TOAD, but in a few days I will have to use the SQL Developer (because it´s free) unless I justify the necessity of using TOAD.
Could some that used both compare them?
Thanks,
Facundo.Hello Facundo,
since we are rolling out new client PCs we switch from Toad to SQL Developer. Therefore I'm doing some training for the "normal" users and our developers.
Most users simply want to have access to the data in tables and views. For those there are 2 main issues:
- Filters get lost when exiting table while sorting is still applied. Since there is no way to apply filtering before entering the data tab this can become a great performance issue because sorting is applied to many many rows. For views it is sometimes impossible to open the data tab.
- Exporting date values to Excel needs some know how if you want to sort by this column in Excel, because the date is formatted as "Standard" meaning that the sorting is done as for a text column: 01.01.2009 is less than 02.01.2008. Here you have to use a workaround column with a formula (=1*<datecolumn>)
The greatest Pro is the easy sharing of connections and reports by XML files.
Our developers like the easy debugging in SQL Developer. Though they miss the feature that the source is compiled for debug automatically as in Toad. For this we have distributed a script that compiles any PL/SQL object for debugging.
There are only some Toads installed for DBAs and for users that need access to tables protected by policies that require authentification by OS user since this information is not passed under every circumstance.

Getting the schema using Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.1
I need to generate a report in CSV/XLS format using Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.1 to get the schema details
in the below format.
Table Name: XXXXXXXXX
Table Space Name: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Structure :
Field Name Data Type Size
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx
Field level constraint:
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Table Level Constraint:
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Indexes:
Index Name Column Name(s) Table space name
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx
Xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx
Sequence Number:
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Triggers:
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I am using a query to do that, but I cannot run more than one queries in the Create Report Dialog.
I went to the Menu->View->Reports. In that, I chose User Defined Reports, created a new folder called Schema Detail and in that a report named Schema Detail. I right click on that report, choose Edit option, Create Report Dialog opens.
In the Create Report Dialog, I chose the option Script for Value of Style.
In the SQL column I enter a query "select * from table_names". But, if I enter another query after that, it does not run and reports an error "SQL Error: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
00933. 00000 - SQL command not properly ended" Cause: Action: "
I end the first query with a semi colon, but it does not work.
The queries run fine in a SQL Worksheet. There, I can terminate the first query with a semi colon and enter the second query. Then, I run both of them together so that result-set of second query appears after the second.
Am I doing something wrong? Can someone please advise on how to get the information I need?
Thanks a lot.You can do it in SQL Worksheet because you are running a script. You could run the script in SQL*Plus, and even start it from a bat/cmd file.
Or if you want this as a User Defined Report, you might make it a PL/SQL style report. Here, all output is done through DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT or DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE. You can output HTML tags or plain text. I have an example in my paper for ODTUG Kaleidoscope 2009. -
Exported CSV files are locked by Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63
Whenever I export my query result into a CSV file, the resulting file is always locked for editing by Oracle SQL Developer 2.1.0.63.
Have anybody encountered the same problem? Do you know how can I report this as a bug to Oracle?
Thanks,

[email protected]I got it too if I left SQl Developer open then go to Excel to edit my CSV - got message 'table_export.csv is locked for editing by another user'. If I close SQL Developer then open the file, it works. Seems SQL Developer's holding onto the file after creation.
Bugs are being reported in this forum.

Viewing table relations inside Oracle SQL Developer
Hi,
I'm a PL/SQL beginner and I need to control the table relations for an Oracle database. I'm using the Oracle SQL developer tool.
Now, how can I see the table relation inside Oracle SQL developer tool?
Thanksitshak wrote:
When working with tables based on user defined types, the FK relations between the tables are not displayed at the data modeler (and also at the worksheet query builder)
I don't think that applies here 1041141 mentioned he is a beginner and did not mention any usage of object types.
If you want to report an issue or possible bug, then please open an extra thread for that. In such a case it helps tremendously if you provide a working test case as well. -

felipe.bHello,
I get the same error after updating through Help->Check for Updates. I am at version 1.1.2.25 and the update does not change the version number of Oracle SQL Developer (Help->About), it remains at 1.1.2.25 (although if I look in extensions tab, it says: oracle.sqldeveloper 1.1.3.27.66 Loaded, possible bug in displaying version number?). These are the updates applied:
Upgraded Extensions
Oracle Microsoft Access Browser version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Snippet version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Reports version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Server Browser version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle MySQL Browser version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Worksheet version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Extras version 1.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - SearchBar version 10.1.3.27.66
Oracle SQL Developer - Object Viewer version 10.1.3.27.66
I ran the update several times and was able to reproduce the error under a specific condition. If I am connected to a database at the time of the update I get the error. If I am not conneceted at the time of the update I do not get the error.
As stated, by Donal, sql developer seems to get over the problem after restarting itself twice.

Greetings,
I'm getting a 404 error when I try to download the Mac OS X version of Oracle SQL Developer. The download page is at
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index.html
And it links to the Mac version at:
http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper-2.1.0.63.73-macosx.tar.gz
Which doesn't exist.
Is this the correct forum to report this problem?
Thanks
MickI don't know what to say: I went to this link
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html
Clicked on Download in the upper right corner, re-accepted the whatever-they-wanted-me-to-accept and then the OSX download suddenly worked. Give it a spin and see if a circuit like that works for you.
Good luck!
