Scheduled Backups Stopped Running

I have two Hyper-V 2012 Servers on which I have scheduled a number of backup jobs using the SCHTASKS command. The backups have been running fine since I created the tasks on 2/26/2014 until last night. On one of the servers the backup was supposed to run
at 6:00pm last night and on the other one it should have run at 7:00pm. On both of them the backup task was apparently not triggered, when I view the event logs for the task manager there is no entry there at all for those times.
On the server where the backup was supposed to run at 6:00 last night I brought up the task manager and see this for the job.
Name: WeeklyBackupMonday
Status: Ready
Triggers: at 6:00 pm every Monday of every week starting 2/26/2014
Next Run Time: 3/17/2014 at 6:00pm
Last Run Time: 3/3/2014 at 6:00pm
Result: The last job finished successfully.
Clearly the job that was supposed to run on the 10th did not run, the same thing is happening on both servers. The other server has a backup job that is supposed to run on Sunday and it also did not run. The history shows that prior to Sunday the jobs were
running normally.
I find it very strange that both servers started exhibiting the same issue simultaneously and am having a difficult time knowing how to troubleshoot the issue as I can not find anything in the logs regarding why it may have failed. Can any one point me in
the right direction for troubleshooting this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Please post the SCHTASKS command to help us troubleshoot the issue. In the meantime, please refer to the thread below to see if the issue is related to Task Scheduler Service Quotas:

  • XLreporter scheduled tasks stopped running

    Hi Experts,
We are experiencing problems on XLreporter scheduled tasks.
They worked properly with sending emails as daily routine. However for some reason they stopped running in windows Task Scheduler. We can still run the jobs thru manually in XLreporter Organizer with correct result and sucessful logs. In the mean time the service of Task Scheduler is ok for other tasks than XLreporter.
What we can see in Event Viewer is the error message with two other information message below for each run:

    Just found this one too:
    Note 855021
If you want scheduled report jobs in XL Reporter to be executed independently of the logon status of the user who defined the job, you must allow Microsoft Excel to be started by the scheduled job.
    1. Choose Run from the Windows Start menu and type dcomcnfg.exe. A window called Component Services appears. Choose Component Services->Computers->My Computer->DCOM Config->Microsoft Excel Application from the list.
    2. Right-click on Microsoft Excel and choose Properties. Choose the Security tab.
    3. Choose Customize under Access Permissions and choose Edit...
    4. Choose Add... and choose Users and/or User Groups that require access to Excel. Then choose OK.
    5. Repeat the procedure for Customize under Launch Permissions.
    6. Choose the Identity tab.
    Choose This User.
Choose a user that is a member of the administrator group from the browse button and enter password.
This user will be the one that is given access to Microsoft Excel when executing scheduled jobs. Normally this would be the Administrator user.

  • OIM Scheduled tasks stop running

    Hi All,
for some reason scheduled tasks are not running even after trying to force it manually
    any ideas would be helpful
    Thanx
    Fred

    Hi ,
check the log file, to identify why it;s stopping , any exception .
Also, If you are using oc4j as app server then , you need to give current time+1 min. in start time to allow cronjob trigger your task.

  • How to disable scheduled backups?

I'd like to disable scheduled backups because my Norton antivirus software cannot be copied and I must be present for the first 20 minutes of backup to choose "skip" for each of about 20 Norton files.  This occurs even though I tried to exclude files having *Norton* in their names, and even when I turn off Norton software before backup.  I'm running ThinkCentre M55, 8811-CTO, with Windows XP Pro.  I've removed backup from the XP "Scheduled Tasks" manager, and in "Config AwayManager tasks", Backup using R&R is not checked.  In R&R, "Set Schedule, Schedule your Backups" is not checked.  Despite these settings, once a day every day I continue to get the "backup cannot copy the ....(Norton)...file" window.  I tried allowing one scheduled backup to run to completion, hoping that if I did this, R&R would no longer run auto backups.  But it didn't work.  How can I stop R&R from running auto backups?  I'd prefer to run manual backups at my convenience.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you can't disable scheduled backups (under Set Schedule etc.), check under Scheduled Tasks (XP) or the
equivalent for your OS and see if anything labelled R&R is set to run, if so disable it.
In R&R you can exclude entire directories and directory trees from being backed up,
this should be better than trying to filter on file names.
    Advanced - Exclude Files.
What I did is to set up excluded directories, but thereafter I run R&R from a batch file in command line mode.
This is documented in a manual that can be downloaded from Lenovo.
Before I start it I stop internet access, and shut down anti-virus (Kaspersky in my case), and verify that all anti-virus processes
have stopped using Process Explorer (a free download from Microsoft).  I also manually stop Google Desktop,
Google notifier, in general everything that seems like it might interfere.
Since I started following this procedure I no longer have any issues.
You can also add a batch file command to shut down the computer after the backup,
    which is desirable.
Here's most of my batch file:
    echo Perform full backup
echo Delete old backup on USB drive
    "c:\program files\lenovo\rescue and recovery\rrcmd" delete location=U silent
rem above deletes the old backup on the USB drive
echo Create base backup on USB drive
    "c:\program files\lenovo\rescue and recovery\rrcmd" backup location=U name=base silent
rem above backs up to USB
    echo Shutdown
    computershutdown -s -f

  • Scheduled daily backups of DMM fail - Backup/Restore process stops running

Hi, I have been testing the scheduled backups within the DMM AAI and have found it's performance to be unreliable.
Specifically I am performing FTP backups to a remote network location.  Manual one-off backups complete successfully without any issues, and scheduled backups occur on the same day, however successive (reoccuring) daily backups don't happen and the Backup/Restore process seems to stop running. I have checked the backup logs but these don't provide any insight as to why the backup process stops running.
Has anyone else encountered this?  I am running DMM v5.2.0.25.
    Mike

I am having a similar problem.  Is there a method to restart the backup service without having to reboot the entire DMM Server?
Note that there is no method via the AAI menu system, and the Web Admin console services section is not clear as to whether it will reboot the entire server (which is NOT an easy thing for me to get away with here).
Restarting the 5.2.3 DMM Server (not JUST the service??)
    =========================
I have now learned (per a Cisco engineer), that the 'Scheduled backup services' in the screencap above, is normally in the 'stopped' status "by design", and that it will not show as started in this UI unless the DMM server is actually in a backup.
    ==============================================
    =========================
My backups now work correctly.  I think that the original problem was my NTP settings, which are now fixed.

  • Scheduled tasks run fine at first then stop running

This has been an ongoing issue with every Server 2012 machine that we have running tasks (a buddy of mine has the same issue with 2008 R2).  At first the task will run fine as it should but then out of the blue it will simply stop running.  The
last run time could be months ago and the next run time will be the normal scheduled time to run.  Last run result is always 0x0.  There is also nothing in the history tab as I assume it's been too long ago since the last time it ran.
I can't figure out what's keeping these tasks from properly triggering and running.  Now before anyone starts going down a list of settings I should check that I might have goofed up, remember, these run fine at first and which jobs stop running properly
are completely random.  Also, some of these tasks are Microsoft generated tasks like Windows Backup:
This happens on MS tasks as well as my own tasks that run fine at first but then just stop.  The only fix on a per task basis that I've been able to come up with is to delete the job and create it from scratch where it will then work forever or get
    stuck.  It's completely random.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter as it's driving me absolutely nuts.

    Hi,
In order to solve the problem more efficiently I need to clarify some information.
Are there any errors about the scheduled tasks?

  • When KM Scheduler is stopped or not running

    Hi Experts,
I have created KM Scheduler using the blog https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/1515.Scheduled for every 30 mins.
In Systemadmin>Monitor> KM-->i can see whether Scheduler is running or not.
Now the requirement is to send a mail to the portal support team when Scheduler is stopped or not running. Is it possible?and how we can proceed?
    Please guide me.
    Sony.

Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

I found one of the note (0001749028) related to similar issue,  workaround mentioned in this note is applicable to BI 4.0 SP7 or BI 4.1 SP1
But our system is BO4.1 SP02 patch1. can we apply workaround mentioned in 0001749028 to BO4.1 SP02 also?
anyone faced this problem before in BO4.1 SP02?, are applied any workaround?

Thanks in advanceI don't know the answer to your immediate technical question, but I have a broader question for you. Why are you wanting to run a hot backup every 30 minutes? Most people find a full backup once a week and incremental backups once a day to be quite sufficient. With this schedule, your archived redo logs provide the final piece for full data recovery.

  • Time Machine Backup Stops Unexpectedly

My Time Machine backup has worked pretty much without a glitch for years, but two days ago it stopped working.  About the time it stopped working, I was burning a number of discs with iDVD.  Some of the burns were not successful and required that I reboot the computer (iMac updated to 10.8.3 this morning) in order to get the disc to eject.
When Time Machine starts running it says that there is 62GB of 1TB available on the backup drive and that there is 1.19GB to be backed up.  At some point, the amout of data to be backed up starts increasing and eventually gets to a point where it exceeds the 62GB available.  Then this message appears:  "The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup."  It looks like the oldest backup is from June, 2010 and I see no problem with deleting these old backups, if necessary.
I suspect that iDVD has created some file somewhere that needs to be deleted, but I don't know where to look.  I have updated my OS and rebooted the computer, but this has not helped.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Anyone using OEM for scheduling backups?

I'd like to see a poll for the number of users using OEM for taking database backups. Had some interesting conversations with some colleagues via social media and it seems like some DBAs don't trust OEM for their backups even though the feature works IMO.
Are you using OEM to do backups?
Edited by: DBA on May 3, 2012 1:02 PM

I have 91 scheduled recurring backup jobs running through OEM 12c BP1. They work quite well. I've only noticed a few problems and nitpicks:
    1) Occasionally, for unknown reasons, a backup job against a newly-added database target will fail stating that the backup cannot be run since the database is closed. The database is not closed, it's up and running fine. Changing the backup job to run using SYS as SYSDBA credentials resolves this problem.
    2) Identification of failed backups is not as customizable as I would like. For example, if I have a full "backup database plus archivelog" running, and during the course of that backup an archivelog backup runs and deletes archived logs, OEM will report that the backup job has failed since RMAN throws an error about not being able to backup an archivelog it expected to find. I dealt with this by adding SKIP INACCESSIBLE to the backup statement. I'm not totally comfortable about that but I monitor for offline datafiles so I consider this only a minimal risk. Our custom backup scripts used to catch this warning and ignore it.
    3) It's really annoying that, after creating a backup job through the target Availability -> Schedule Backup tool, I cannot then run a 'Create Like' against that backup job to create a nearly identical one against a different database target. You have to schedule each of them from the Schedule Backup tool. Clicky clicky clicky clicky.
    4) A backup job created through the 'Schedule Backup' tool has a job type of 'Database Backup', therefore when the job fails a high-availability incident is created, so you can configure incident rules to receive notification of this event. This is good. Unfortunately a backup job created from the Jobs page has a job type of 'RMAN Script' does NOT create an incident on job failure out of the box. I've had difficulty configuring incident rules to catch failures for RMAN Script job types. This is not good.
    5) The repeating schedule options for jobs are limited compared even to something like cron. I can schedule a job for a day of the week, or a day of the month, but cannot easily schedule a job for "the first Tuesday of each month". This can be worked around.
    6) After creating and submitting a backup job through the Schedule Backup tool, you cannot edit the RMAN script without recreating the job. You can only edit the RMAN script before submitting the job. I deal with this by having my backups run stored scripts in the recovery catalog, and make the changes there if I need to change something.
    7) It is very annoying that if I 'stop' a repeating job (instead of suspend), there is no way to resume that job. It has to be recreated. This is my own user error -- I just don't click the stop button. Not OEM's fault but I'd rather not even have that button.
    8) No ability to sequence jobs. You can sequence steps within a job, but then the entire job succeeds or fails as a unit. If you want to back up database A then immediately back up database B afterwards, you have to create a multi-task job. The multi-task job has the same problem as item #4 above such that it does not create a "backup failed" incident when the backup fails.
Even with all of these gripes, I am quite pleased with the backups I have running through OEM.

  • Backup stopped before completing. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

I am working with a client who is attempting to backup to a NAS device
The device is a linksys NSS6000 (Cisco device).
It’s a dual 1Gbit LAN device that supports CIFS / FTP and NFS transfers. It has only 1Gbit lan connected.
The device has 4 *  500 gb sata drives in raid 1  attached.
Cables go from cat 5 to fiber back to cat5. (The NAS  is located at a neighboring office) The switches are 1gbit.
Server is a win2k8r1 fully up to date.
When backing up to the NAS device, the following error occurs:
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (86%).
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (90%).
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (94%).
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (98%).
Backup of volume Local Disk(D:) completed successfully.
    Backup stopped before completing.
    Summary of backup:
    Backup stopped before completing.
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
If we redirect the backup to a folder on a 2008 share, the backup completes successfully.
Only when backing up to the linksys NSS6000 does the error occur.
No other backup processes are writing to the NAS device so I can't understand why the process thinks the file is
    being used by another process.
One thing we did notice that when the backup to the NAS device occurs, throughput is about 150 mbit average
On the 2008 server shares we successfully backup to, the through put is 500 mbit.  Not sure if that is important, but
    might be worth mentioning.
The following event log entry was noted at the end of the backup.
The description for Event ID '519' in Source 'Microsoft-Windows-Backup' cannot be found.

  • Scheduling backups when wake from sleep is password protected

i'm just wondering if it's possible to wake a mac from sleep (at say 0200) in order to run a backup script, if a password is required to wake from sleep/screensaver ?
what's happening at the moment is that the computer wakes, the script starts to run, but then after about 1 minute, because the authentication dialog is not processed, it goes back to sleep, so interrupting the script
i had the same problem trying to sftp into a mac after using wake-on-lan to wake it from sleep remotely. i can successfully make the sftp connection and start file transfers, however it quickly goes back to sleep (as the authentication dialog is unanswered)
so does anyone know of a way to keep the security of require-password-from-sleep, as well as allowing useful things like running scheduled backup scripts ?
    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I also had this problem and I worked with Apple Care. They are aware of the problem and apparently are working on a fix. The only way around this for now is to uncheck the option requiring a password to wake from sleep/screen saver in System Preferences/Security. I was amazed to find this problem, I can't believe Apple let this one past them because surely all those folks who use Backup with .Mac accounts have experienced this problem or don't realize their backup isn't happening. So, hopefully this is one item that will be fixed at some point.

    Thanks
    Rocky

    Hi Rocky,
1)Goto configtool directory and run confgitool.sh
    <drive:\>\usr\sap\sid\JC<InstanceNumber>\J2EE\configtool\configtool.sh
    2)Under Clustre Data -> Global Server Configuration -> Services -> com.sap.security.cor.ume.services
    3)Now find the parameter - ume.persistence.data_source_configuration
And change to default value (The default - dataSourceConfiguration_database_only.xml)
4)Click on set and then apply the setting. Then restart the server.
    Hope it will be helpful.
    Thanks & regards
    Arun Singh
