Scheduled daily backups of DMM fail - Backup/Restore process stops running

Hi, I have been testing the scheduled backups within the DMM AAI and have found it's performance to be unreliable.
Specifically I am performing FTP backups to a remote network location.  Manual one-off backups complete successfully without any issues, and scheduled backups occur on the same day, however successive (reoccuring) daily backups don't happen and the Backup/Restore process seems to stop running. I have checked the backup logs but these don't provide any insight as to why the backup process stops running.
Has anyone else encountered this?  I am running DMM v5.2.0.25.
Mike

I am having a similar problem.  Is there a method to restart the backup service without having to reboot the entire DMM Server?
Note that there is no method via the AAI menu system, and the Web Admin console services section is not clear as to whether it will reboot the entire server (which is NOT an easy thing for me to get away with here).
Restarting the 5.2.3 DMM Server (not JUST the service??)
=========================
I have now learned (per a Cisco engineer), that the 'Scheduled backup services' in the screencap above, is normally in the 'stopped' status "by design", and that it will not show as started in this UI unless the DMM server is actually in a backup.

=========================
My backups now work correctly.  I think that the original problem was my NTP settings, which are now fixed.

  • Backup - Restore process of a Site Collection in SharePoint Online

Hi, I have a couple of questions.
    1) What do I have to do to get a backup-restore of a site collection in SharePoint Online?
    2) Can I myself perform a backup-restore or just backup a site collection without using any 3rd party tool?
Any inputs on these will be helpful. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
what you can instead of backup and restore site is to save it as template, check this thread

  • My iCloud Backup restore process seems to be stuck

I am trying to restore an iCloud backup to a iPhone5s. I started the process about 20 hours ago. Most of my data was restored within a couple hours, but since then, it seems to be stuck restoring. It looks like my Podcasts and Pictures are the two areas left that say they are still downloading with no progress for the past 12-15 hours at least.
Is there any way to get the restore moving again or do I need to wipe and start over?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have done that several times to no avail. That's what I was afraid of that, I need to start over. I was just trying to avoid it since I had trouble once already.
This is actually a replacement for another bad phone I got yesterday at the Apple store. While I was in the store, I started the restore process and it also stuck, but they seemed to get it going again and after I was home, it continued to restore until the point mentioned above.
I went ahead and wiped and now starting the wipe process over. I hope the backup I am restoring isn't the problem.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Embedding a backup/restore process inside an application

    Hi,
I'm writing an application and I want to create a screen where the user can perform database backups and restores. I have a default install of SQL Server Express 2012 and I am executing a query to perform the backups.
The problem I have is that it would appear that there is no common ground on the file system between a standard user and the MSSQLSERVER user installed with MSSQL Express.  Every time I try to perform a backup I get the message:
Cannot open backup device 'xxxx' Operating system error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified.).
When I check the permissions it would seem that the MSSQLSERVER user only has permission in areas that the standard user doesn't.
What is the best way that I can get round this problem? (bear in mind that this software will be installed on remote machines therefore whatever I do needs to be reflected in an setup/installation process).
    Regards
    Chris.

    Hello Chris,
Every SQL Server installation do have a "Backup" subfolder, where SQL Server do have permissions to write to; the user needs admin permissions to access the folder. You can query the folder location for a instance with:
    exec master.dbo.xp_instance_regread
    N'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE',
    N'Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer',
    N'BackupDirectory'

  • How can I create daily backups in separate folders?

Fom iTunes, Edit | Preferences | Devices, I can see two different backups, one for today (the default where my iPhone always syncs and one done on 6/21/11 at 2:12 pm. I don't know how that one for 6/21 got created, separate from the default backup folder.
I'm trying to figure out how make that happen again.
Does anyone know how iTunes creates and dates backups and maintains multiple backups in the Backup Restore list?  I'm sure some steps I followed created a separate backup in the list. I need to be able to replicate those steps so I can create my own separate backups when I want (daily backups).
I'm running iTunes 10.3.1.55 for Windows. My iPhone 3GS is running iOS 4.3.3
    Thanks for checking my post.

LOL. Hey, the "More like this" section AFTER you post a question is more accurate and easier to find an answer to your question than SEARCHING the forum.  I found the answer to my question, which is, iTunes only creates and time stamp a backup and sets it apart when you upgrade the iOS. I upgraded to 4.3.3 on 6/21/11; there's my answer.  Reposting here, just in case someone actually knows how to search the forum and finds it without having to post a question.  LOL

  • Backup/restore question

When you do a backup or restore, is any of the information on the microSD card copied/restored?  If not, how do you backup the songs, photos, etc., that are on the card?  Do you just copy the info from windows explorer?  I am running win7RC and have a Tour.
While I'm thinking about it, I would like to get a larger microSD card.  What's the best way to transfer the info from the old card to the new one?
Thanks in advance from a new guy
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The backup/restore process doesn't touch the media card. You can just use Windows Explorer to copy the contents of the media card. I just got a new media card recently and I just copied the entire BlackBerry folder onto my PC, then inserted the new card, then copied the BlackBerry folder onto the media card.

  • How to BackUp Restore Large Library "original file could not be found"

I've searched the archives for this with no clear answer, and am reposting to avoid confusing anyone.
I am working on a manual and seamless BACKUP-RESTORE process to manage my large 100-gigabyte-plus iTunes library.
    +++++
First, my iTunes folder is in default location:
    Boot drive> User> Music
I don't keep any music in this folder.
New music is imported into this folder, copied over to my Music Library, and then deleted from iTunes folder (to keep it and my boot drive clean, and my 100GB Music Library folder meticulously organized).
My iTunes folder is set at default:
    iTunes> Preferences> Advanced> Change> iTunes Music folder location
My actual 100-gigabyte-plus music folder is stored on a 2nd hard drive:
    HardDrive> Music Library
    This setup works perfect.
    +++++
    BACKUP
    To backup, I simply:
    1) copy my User> Music> iTunes folder (800mb) to a 3rd hard drive.
    2) copy my HardDrive> Music Library to 3rd hard drive
    RESTORE
    To restore, I simply:
    1) copy my backup iTunes into User> Music.
    2) copy my Music Library back to 2nd hard drive HardDrive.
    3) Relaunch iTunes and every works perfect.
    THE PROBLEM
However, if I change the name of my 2nd hard drive (where my 100GB music folder is stored) — iTunes shows everything in place — all songs, art, playlists — but I get following error on every song:
THE SONG NAMED ______ COULD NOT BE USED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL FILE COULD NOT BE FOUND. WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT?
Obviously I don't want to have to do this individually for 30,000 songs and am looking for instructions how to point iTunes database back to my 2nd hard drive> Music Library and complete the restore process.
I am hoping this can be done without changing my work flow — and it is a simple and logical move to tell iTunes where all the original files (missing songs) are stored.
    +++++
    Previous discussions have noted:
    Following this Apple Support Doc
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
I was able to Quit iTunes, relaunch iTunes holding Option key, and chose my existing library (from my Music folder) — it works, everything shows up — but iTunes still doesn't know where my songs are (on my 2nd hard drive).
If I point the Option+Open iTunes library prompt to my 100GB Music Library (on the 2nd hard drive), it tells me (logically) there is no library there).
I've also launched and manually verifies iTunes> Preferences> Advanced> Change> iTunes Music folder location — it works, everything shows up — but iTunes still doesn't know where my songs are (on my 2nd hard drive).
I anticipate more complications if I reset iTunes preferences to my 2nd hard drive or start dinking around trying to see what works and what does not work.
    +++++
At this point I am trying to make THIS workflow, backup-restore process work — so I am hoping someone else has slugged through this and can take a few minutes to clue me in the right direction (or at least tell me there is no way to do what I am trying).

If I simply rename the second hard drive to the name of the original 2nd hard drive — iTunes is successfully restored.
I am still looking for a better way because I want to change the name of the second HD...

  • Switch Device Wizard vs Backup/Restore Option

If I am getting a repalcement Blackberry (8820)- same model as I currently have; would you reccomend that I use the Switch Device Wizard instead of the backup/restore process? Or would the restore process get me the same data?
I have an Enterprise Outlook email address (from my employer) and some downloaded links for news, weather, finance, etc. I have setup my currently blackberry the way that I would like the new one to be. Is that possible with either the Switch Device or restore process?
For the application loader - if I have Windows Vista Business on my laptop and Office 2003 or 2007, can I download the Microsoft applications to my Blackberry? Is that how the application loader functions?

If you're on a BES, your data, including your Browser Shortcuts, Profile Preferences will be restored to your device from the BES when you run the Enterprise Activation.

    Just found this one too:
    Note 855021
If you want scheduled report jobs in XL Reporter to be executed independently of the logon status of the user who defined the job, you must allow Microsoft Excel to be started by the scheduled job.
    1. Choose Run from the Windows Start menu and type dcomcnfg.exe. A window called Component Services appears. Choose Component Services->Computers->My Computer->DCOM Config->Microsoft Excel Application from the list.
    2. Right-click on Microsoft Excel and choose Properties. Choose the Security tab.
    3. Choose Customize under Access Permissions and choose Edit...
    4. Choose Add... and choose Users and/or User Groups that require access to Excel. Then choose OK.
    5. Repeat the procedure for Customize under Launch Permissions.
    6. Choose the Identity tab.
    Choose This User.
Choose a user that is a member of the administrator group from the browse button and enter password.
This user will be the one that is given access to Microsoft Excel when executing scheduled jobs. Normally this would be the Administrator user.

  • Time machine backup failed to restore

HHaving had major issues with Mail I decided to restore from a Time Machine backup. With hindsight I wish I hadn't! Having foolishly agreed to the 'this will erase everything' warning I waited 8 hours (twice) to get the message that my backup failed to restore. No more detail than that. Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions? I have a MBA with latest upgrade of Yosemite (last upgrade probably caused my Mail issue). Everything is backed up using Time Machine to a Netgear NAS. When going through the restore process I have no is

TThanks Eric. At present I can't connect the NAS directly. I dont seem to have a usb to usb cable. It is connecting via a network cable. My MBA can see the NAS and I've successfully entered my login details and chosen the backup I want to restore.
On C's recommendation I tried reinstalling OSX and planned to then try importing all my files on,y to find that there was not enough disk space. I've now erased everything as it occurred to me that starting with most of my 250G drive free might help. I'm having one more go at restoring directly from the TM backup as this would be my preferred solution (indeed what I had assumed Time Machine was meant for). On,y another 7 hours 26 minutes to wait. If that fails I will have another go at a fresh OS X install and reimport from TM (on the assumption that an empty hard disk will allow that this time).
ANd  do all this because MaIl stopped working with my old POP account and I screwed up the switch to IMAP (by dragging my old Pop account contents across to the new IMAP account is created - will need to do that more carefully if I ever get back to where I started!).

  • Backup Restore Failed After iOS5 Upgrade

I did the iOS5 install on my iphone 4 yesterday and it went off perfectly.  However, this evening, I did the same on my wife's iphone 4.  Prior to doing the download, I did a Backup and a Restore Purchases. When the process came to the Restore point, I received the error message that the restore from backup had failed. Each time we plugged the phone back into itunes, it prompted us to complete the restore process but with the same message. Consequently, my wife's phone lost all contacts, photos, and apps. I manually re-entered her contacts, plugged back into itunes, and performed another backup. We then attempted to restore from backup once again with the failure message following. I'm almost sure that we cannot recover her photos, but if anyone on the forum has a suggestion, we'd appreciate it. Also, what is the safest and most surefire way to backup photos and contacts on the iphone 4 ?  JEFF

My husband updated my phone on the 15th... same identical thing happened. I've lost all photos, text messages, and contacts since the las backup. It did download 5.0, but I lost everything. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with an apple advisor and they needed to research it further and would call me back......hasn't happened yet. If they find a way, I will post it. What error message did you receive... mine was (-50).

  • Schedule the daily backup from Monday to Saturday?

    Dear all,
I am the first time to scheduling the daily backup, I have following questions:

    Month (every month)
Day of week (0-6) 0 = Sunday, 1 = Monday, ... or Sun, Mon, etc)
Command to execute (how to execute the command)
    Best Regards,
    Amy

    Hi,
Firstly, if you are using recovery catalog, then create rman scripts and In case you dont have recobery catalog, then add the backup script in the .sh file .
Then create .sh file and not to forget add environment variable for oracle in that .sh file.
Then schedule that file with cron and format you know for the cron.
Make sure cron is started on the machine.
    Example for .sh file is
    export ORACLE_SID=<ORACLE_SID>
    export path=<ORACLE_PATH>
    rman<<EOF
    connect target sys/<password
    run{
    body
but the best way is to go for rman backup scripts using recobery catalog

  • Restoring notes (in Notes app) from a daily backup

While setting up a new iPhone, iCloud duplicated my Contacts entries (contacts and the groups they were contained in) and my notes in Notes.  These duplicates appeared on both the phone and my laptop.  After some time I was able to get rid of the extra contacts by working with Apple Customer Service.  It wasn't until this morning I noticed my notes were also duplicated.  I started deleting the copied notes thinking I was going about things the correct way so I'd be left with just one of each but apparently I was wrong. As I was eliminating the 9th or 10th I looked up and saw all those notes I'd just pared down were now entirely gone.  iCloud was working to update right behind me and deleted the remaining notes, as well.
I don't use Time Machine with Mavericks because it slows this machine down horribly but I do a daily backup each night  What I need to know is where in  my Library my Notes are stored.  I'll drag and drop that file/those files from the backup hard drive to my MBPro's Library.
Hope someone can get back to be soon.
    many thanks,
    Alex

Come on, folks.  I'm sure most of you know the location Apple stores application databases changed with Mavericks.  Wouldn't take too long for someone to send word on where I need to look for the Notes .plist.  Or any files I need to switch out.
    - thanks, again
