Scheduled download of updates to PC
I am downloading iPhone application updates to my PC and then synchronizing with my iPhone.
I wish to do it during the night with free GB. How can I schedule such downloads to start at midnight and stop at 6 am in the morning?
I am using Windows XP and my iPhone is 4S.
Thank you.
iPhone firmware updates are not downloaded by or to the iPhone. Firmware updates are downloaded by your computer and installed on your iPhone with iTunes only.
Tethering should allow for downloading a firmware update with iTunes on your computer and installing the update on your iPhone which is probably not possible with tethering active.

"Failed to download the update from internet. Error = 5"
The above is the error I am getting when running any ADR. The error is quite clear software updates are failing to download and Error = 5 being a permissions error its clear that the downloads are failing due to incorrect permissions applied to the download
path.
Here is the last bit of my ruleengine.log, everything above is the same except for the update trying to be downloaded of course:

Also, I do not have a patchdownloader.log anywhere, Ive checked all aforementioned locations from various sources and it just simply does not exist on my SCCM server. Here is my setup:
Server1: Primary server with all roles installed locally except the site database is on its own server. WSUS is installed locally here and DB is stored here.
Server2: SQL DB for Primary site DB
Server3: Secondary remote site running MP, DP, SUP. DB is SQL Express local.
So the SUP role was installed successfully on both server1 first and server 2 second with the site servers accounts. The SUP Synchronizes successfully and I can see a large list of updates available for use but not downloaded of course. I have set WSUS option
to store updates locally and have plenty of space at the target destination.
So here is my issue, I have been working on this issue for the better part of a week and understand the error code from the ruleengine.log to be a permissions issue. I have also proved this out but creating a test ADR with minimal updates and applied NTFS perms
to the target path for Modify with the everyone group (testing purposes only). The updates downloaded successfully. So this puts me right back to where I was, knowing its a permissions issue but not understanding what permissions are needed. Let me explain
further.
The best way to start is to show what perms I have to the target location for downloads/wsus/sup anything:
Path: \\Server1\UpdatesAndDefinitions (permissions being applied to the UpdatesAndDefinitions root folder)
SCCMAdmin (account used for most SCCM tasks except for NA) / Modify / Share and NTFS
Server1$ (primary site server) / Modify / NTFS
Everyone / read and execute / NTFS and Share
There are other system generated perms but the above three are the important ones. So hence my confusion I know that the SCCMAdmin account or the Server its self has to be accessing the target directory so why is it failing with a permissions issue?
My next step was to enable Auditing on the target path. Doing so revealed just what I thought and through me into further frustration:
A network share object was accessed.

Now I may not be the best I traversing through the mess of audit entry's and translating them, but from what I can see the two accounts that have the proper share and ntsf perms ive listed above are indeed the ones accessing the target location and the audit
code is success. I filter for failures and found no audits for failures whatsoever yet my downloads still fail religiously, unless of course I open myself up with the everyone group.
So next... I tried adding in the Network Service account with proper permissions, the Local Service Account, my user account, and all no go's.
Next... I remove the SUP roles from SCCM checked the logs for deinstall confirmations, and reinstalled these roles. No Go!
If anyone can assist I would be in your debt and very grateful.
Oh last note, but very important note I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4
Thanks,
Michael
MichaelSpauldingI just tested with the everyone group further; I added everyone with modify for ntfs and just read only for share and downloads failed!
I then changed the share perms for everyone to change and the ntfs to read/execute and poof downloads complete! Obviously change share perms for everyone leaves me open which Id like to prevent, so finding what account is being used is crucial.
I have already tried adding all of the SCCM accounts I use and the servers themselves as change perms to share and ntfs and have not had any luck.

Some computers download and install the two approved updates, others only download Windows Update Agent and not the approved updates.

Software to schedule downloads after hours
I have to use an ISP with a very tight restriction on download bandwidth (max 300MB per 24 hours), but I have "unlimited" bandwidth between 1am and 5am, so I'm looking for a software solution to automatically schedule downloads between these hours. Mainly I'll be downloading software updates (Mac updates, Adobe products etc) and podcasts from iTunes (if possible).
I don't know how to use Terminal and really don't feel comfortable getting in there, so I'd prefer a software solution.
Thanks!I've never heard of any software that will do this but it can be done using terminal if you can overcome your fear of it .
the following terminal command will download all available updates and put them in your Downloads folder.
/usr/sbin/softwareupdate -d --all
so what you need to do is this.
1. turn off automatic software update in software update system preferences.
2. make a cron or a launch daemon to run the above terminal command periodically at the time of your choosing (say, every day at 2am). to make a launch daemon I recommend using lingon
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lingon/files/
have the daemon execute the above command.
The daemon will only run if the computer is not asleep at the scheduled time so you might want to set it to wake/start shortly before that. this is done in system preferences->energy saver->schedule. or just keep the computer on overnight.
to install the updates once they are downloaded double-click on the pkg files and follow the instructions.

Download software update and store on computer
I update several (between 3-5) devices on an average day while setting them up. I was wondering if there was a method to download the update and store it on the computer so that I don't need to re-download several hundred megs repeatedly every day.
Solved!
Go to Solution. In addition...while they will work for the OPs intended purpose, AutoLoaders are a fully destructive update method, requiring backup/restore/reconfiguration steps. Sachesi can provide, via PC/USB, an OTA-like update method; if you download once to a PC the files necessary for Sachesi, you can use and re-use them on multiple devices without the hard requirement for backup/restore/reconfigure (though, for safety, backups are of course always recommended before doing an update).
You can find instructions for Sachesi here:

Help!! I downloaded the update last night, and now my phone wont even turn on!
I downloaded the update last night for my Pearl Flip, and it did the usual (turn on/turn off) during the update.
When it was finished it turned off-figured it had to reboot to take effect-now it has a new hour glass on the main screen when you open it up, and wont get past the 'app world error' reset page.
It thinks/thinks/thinks and takes me about 20-30min to get the error. I've done the reset it asks me to (mainly b/c thats the only option).
So I think it's reseting, then I get the same darn thing. HELPYikes...a 200 error...while the official KB for that is not presently available, the usual fix is to reload your OS...something during the update did not go right.
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Hopefully, you already have a good backup of your data...because it is already gone.
Good luck and let us know!

HT4623 how do I remove credit card from information can't download or update anymore
how do I remove credit card from information can't download or update anymore
Open iTunes on your computer, click on your Apple ID and log in with your password. Edit your payment information.

when Trying to download or update apps I got "your apple id has been disabled" and I had reset my password for three times
If you are receiving a message that your iTunes account has been disabled and resetting your password does not resolve the issue, then you will need to contact iTunes Store Customer Support via http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

I connected my iphone 4s that I unlocked for t-mobile. I plugged it into itunes, and it asked me to update to ios6. I accepted the download and update button. It told me it needed 8 hours. I closed my laptop, not shut down. I re-opened the laptop a few hours later, and it wants restoring?? Whats going on?! i want my iphone back! PLEASE HELP. I'M LOST!!! (I synced my iphone to my computer if that helps at all).
Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. ( this whole process was caused by me trying wanting to empty my pictures onto my computer because i did not have any storage space left). <--- that may not be as important, but i included it just because.

I have an apple ID, I'm trying to use this to update and download apps etc. however, whenever I try this, it keeps asking me to use my old ID, which is attached to an email that no longer exists! I can't download or update anything! Help!
You can log out of the currently logged in account by taping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and you can then log back in.
If you updated your existing account with a new email address then that shoud 'refresh' it on it
If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can redownload its content and download updates to its apps. You should be able to update an account's email address via this page : http://appleid.apple.com -
Hi Guys - for a few days I have been having problems downloading and updating apps on my iPad and iPhone. The message cycles between waiting and downloading then eventually says unable to download app. Sometimes after many attempts it wil eventually work. I tested it on an old iPhone 3G and got the same problem so it is not an iOS 5 issue. My WI-FI connection is working fine. I was wondering if this is an App Store problem? Anyone else in the UK having this problem?
Hi John
iTunes Support wasn't of any use to me.
I have also been having another problem - with BBC iPlayer and other video streaming not working due to insufficient bandwidth, despite my overall download speed being consistently around 50Gb. This is also affecting AppleTV downloads
I am using Virgin Media as my ISP, and was wondering whether you do as well. This might be the common thread.

It keeps having me verify my billing won't let me download apps update apps nothing I don't want to purchase anything but it insist on me putting in credit card info please help
If you want to use your current ID you will either have to provide a credit card or redeem an iTunes gift card. Otherwise you can create a new ID without a credit card to purchase free apps by following this exactly as written: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534.

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan. -
HT1918 My iPhone won't let me download or update anything???
My iPhone won't let me download or update any apps, just keeps going to my account pages, asks me to put in my card details then says there's a problem or it's declined even when I try to download or update free apps, I have had the day Apple ID and card details since I brought phone????? Have spoken to Apple they don't help!!
What sort of card is it, debit or credit ? If it's a debit card then I don't think that they are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts about them being declined.
If it's a credit card then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support again : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management -
Something has happen my ipad air 2 it wont let me download or update any apps, when I press the button do update or download it looks like it is but it doesn't so if anyone knows what's going wind please help me
Do you have any restrictions for purchasing apps on the phone? Settings > General > Restrictions. If you have a Mac computer or another Apple device can you purchase things in the App Store using the same Apple ID on something else?
