Scheduling Mail to Send Later

I usually compose email to clients at night. I would prefer if my clients couldn't see that I send my emails at 2:00 am. To hide this fact I leave the messages open so I can send them in the morning. I would prefer if I could find a way to schedule my messages departure at a particular time. Can this be done?

It can be done with a script. If you download these scripts:
http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
There is one there that is called scheduled delivery. You just save as a draft, run the script and it will show all your drafts. You can then pick what time you would like them to be sent.

• Is it possible to 'Send Later' in Mail?

Is this possible. I can't figure it out other than saving as a draft. I want to be able to compose an email when I'm offline, tell it to send later, have it sit in my outbox until I go online next and then send.
Right now, it trys to send it and gives me a message that I'm offline, etc.
I've gone back to Mail from Entourage but am tempted to go back again for the option of 'sending later.'
I would love ANY help!!!
Powerbook 15" Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't think mail will do this itself - but apple Help has this to say - & note that changing locations is just one click from the Apple menu.
Presumably mail wd then just say yr not online & send these later - try it?
Creating an offline location
If you don't want your computer to connect to the Internet when you open Mail, your web browser, or any program that uses requires an Internet connection, create a new location and turn off all of the network ports (Built-in Ethernet, Internal Modem or External Modem, AirPort, and so on). Your computer won't be able to connect to the Internet when you use this location.
Open System Preferences and click Network.
Choose New Location from the Location pop-up menu, and give the location a name.
Choose Network Port Configurations from the Show pop-up menu, and deselect all of the port configurations (Built-in Ethernet, Internal Modem or External Modem, AirPort, and so on).
Choose this location from the Apple menu when you want to stay offline. Switching locations is easier than adjusting Network preference options.

• Reinstalled 10.6.3 and now several days later the mail buttons 'send' 'reply' 'reply all' are frozen

reinstalled 10.6.3 and now several days later the mail buttons 'send' 'reply' 'reply all' are frozen (not greyed out, just completely unresponsive). also every other keystroke or so in the body of the email returns an alert bleep (but the charactor seems to be entered without a problem). i can recieve mail and all the "connection status" checks in Mail Connection Doctor return posative connections. so far i tried removing the com.apple.mail.plist permissions from my library and then repairing permissions with disk utility, as well as running applejack. no luck. any suggestions?

Hmmm, interesting problem & not on 10.6 at the moment, but quit Mail & in the Finder go to...
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Do a Get Info & see if it's locked or what rights are there.

• Mail sending question - automating send later

Occasionally I have an email that when I press "Send" confronts me with the fact that the outgoing server is unavailable. This, despite the fact that I have my preferences set to "If outgoing server is unavailable: Automatically try sending later". Why might that be?
And a followup question, if I click "Try Later" in the error dialogue, Mail will relegate the outgoing message to the Outbox but won't try to send it later. I have to manually re-open the file and click "Send". Again, if its meant to automate all this, why might it not be doing so?
As always, thanks in advance!

Just noticed the oddest thing. If a particular email is not being sent, I can select the email content, copy it. Create a new email to the same recipient, paste the exact same content and send. E voila it works fine. Effectively its the exact same email, and yet it sends the second time around. This is sooooo weird. I have no idea where to start.

• Schedule Mail.app to send an Email in the future

Hey everyone, I want to send an email in the future, for marking an anniversary of a friends daughters passing away. I Don't want to miss it and I don't want to have to compose a message last minute. I want to compose it NOW. Is there a script or something I can use to make Mail.app send the mail via my Gmail IMAP at a specified time?
Thanks!

I will say that Mail Scripts does work. I have used it for a couple of years and it allows me to create an email, save as DRAFT, then run the script for it to send it out in the future.
It even still works on Mountain Lion 10.8.1
Grab it here:

Hello Everyone,
Can I set Mail to send an email every 2 weeks, to the same address, with the same content?

You could use Automator and iCal. See [this discussion|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9029203#9029203] , for example.

• Loaded Yosemite onto mid 2011 MacBook Air. IMAP account goes offline - message - Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. Allow insecure authentication doesn't work. Repeated reloads. No joy. Help!

Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk.

I have the same problem.
Late 2012 imac 27", intel i7 core
When I upgraded to Yosemite, suddenly my email account (netvigator POP) gives an error:
Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk.
I have shut down & restarted mail, but no success. If I select Allow insecure authentication, it works, but that's not a long term fix.
I also have a hotmail POP account enabled, and that is working fine.
What's happening Apple??
(Long term apple family - iMac, iBooks, TimeCapsule, iPhones, iPads, AirportExpress etc etc)

• How can I make mail retry sending messages in the Outbox?

Howdy all,
As the title says how can a force Mail to try to resend the messages in the outbox? I use my MacBook Pro in a number of different environments and when I am on one flakey access point in particular or when I have forgotten to open Safari to reauthorize recently on another network Mail will fail to contact the SMTP server. When this happens my message gets stuck in the outbox to be sent later. My problem is that I do not know how to get it out of there effectively.
Once I have fixed the transitive error in the network (or or the problem fixes itself) how do I get the messages out of the inbox? At this point I can send more messages with no problem and they will happily go out but those in the queue just sit there.
Now, I have tried a number of things like quitting and restarting Mail, bringing the various network interfaces back up and down, and other things to try to trick Mail into sending the queued messages but that has been haphazard at best. I can't help thinking that there is something obvious I am missing.
Thanks for any help!

Highlight the message in the inbox, double-click on it, and click on the "send" icon
You may even consider BCCing yourself to see whether the message actually goes or not, and you just have an artifact copy stuck in your outbox that you could then just delete.
Otherwise, copy&paste the stuck message body into a new message, and delete the stuck one out of the outbox before attempting to send the new one

• Mail not sending pics correctly

Any pictures I receive from anyone else open on my end but I have had problems sending pictures ever since I got a Mac. Is something set wrong on my mail program?? Thanks for any help. jetRed

Hello,
Please confirm whether you are in fact running 10.2.x (Jaguar)? Any advice anyone can provide will have to be in relation to that.
Assuming your info is correct, let me suggest that you consider several things:
Is this a new message or a forward?
Are you placing all photo attachments last in the message, and NOT typing or using the Return key between them or after the last one?
Are you using a Signature? If so, does your Signature have any HTML within it?
Have the photos been saved to include a Mac type Preview or Thumbnail? If so try saving without any such specialized metadata.
Keep in mind this forum is for Mail 2.0 and later, and you might get better answers in this forum:

However, let me know if you post a new Topic in that forum, and I will follow you there with other thoughts, if needed.

• Poor Mail Performance: Sending and Recieving

Does anybody out there also find that the Mail app is very slow at sending email compared to logging on to the mobile me web mail? I sure do, I did a benchmark test. I sent a 10 word email to some one using the mail app. It took 45 seconds to actually send. ON the web app it's instant (as it should be)... Any tips for settings?

The desktop app is not and should not seem as fast as the webmail. The desktop version is slower because the mail has to be "uploaded" to the server (twice) before it can be delivered.
Both apps are technically multi-threaded and when the webmail app tells you your mail is "sent" it isn't really sent (yet).
When you use webmail, you're not really connecting to the mail server, you're connecting to a web front-end. When you click the "send" button, it'll immediately tells you the message is sent, but this is no different than clicking the "send" button in the desktop client and seeing the compose window disappear right away. The message is dispatched to another thread which transmits the mail in the background.
On the webmail interface there are two things that happen.
1) The web front end contacts your "message store" (where your mail really lives) and stores a copy of the message in your "sent" folder.
2) A copy of the message is sent to Apple's MTA (message transfer agent). This is a server which never talks directly to an end user. It's only job is to send and receive email to other mail servers on the internet.
You are never actually aware of the above steps happening because it's all hidden from view. Thus the webmail "seems" faster because, as far as you know, you clicked "send" and the mail window disappeared and it told you it was sent (when in reality it was dispatched to another server and wont really send for several seconds.)
In the desktop app, when you click "send", a few things happen:
1) The compose window disappears instantly and you see the gear animation in your sent folder.
2) A copy of the message is uploaded to Apple's SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) server (this is the real email message which will be sent. It's actually a special interface on their outbound-MTA (mail transfer agent.)
3) Then a second copy of the message is uploaded to Apple's IMAP server (which will be stored in your "sent" folder so that you have a record.)
4) You hear the animation noise showing that the background delivery process is complete.
Depending on how big the message is and how many recipients you addressed in the message, this could take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. But since it's a multi-threaded background process it really doesn't matter because it doesn't slow you down. No part of your message even begins to be sent to the mail server until you press the "send" button.
Another thing to remember is that most ISPs cap your upload speed to a fraction of your download speed. There's not much you can do about that (unless you have another ISP choice available and they offer faster speeds.)
The advantage of the desktop app are (a) it's searchable instantly, (b) you can use it even when your Mac is not connected to the internet (messages will be queued until you are connected and they'll all send later. So if you need to read & reply to email while flying at 30,000' on an airline you can do that with the desktop client. The web-app... not so good here.) (c) Finally... if you're running backups with Time Machine, your email is getting backed up (if you're running the desktop Mail client and you click the Time Machine icon you can go back and find old email -- even mail you've deleted. You can't do that with the web-mail interface.
I normally only use the webmail interface to check mail if I'm borrowing someone else's computer. If I'm on my own computer I use the desktop Mail application because it's more full-featured.

you need to compile the above java file.
For me it's worked . You need javamail.jar & activation.jar files.copy them to the
C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1\common\lib.
copy the mailerBean.java file to C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\com\stardeveloper\bean\test.
u need to create the above folder structure . compile mailerbean.java in this folder only.

• When you choose the Send Later option, where does the email go?

I wrote an email this morning which I did not want to send right away so I chose the Send Later option under the File menu. The email disappeared and now that I want to send it - I can't find it. It's not in drafts or anyplace else for that matter...

'''Local Folders|Outbox'''
But when you start or close Thunderbird it should remind you and offer to send them…
And your '''File '''menu entry should have an option to send unsent mail.
I have '''File|Send Unsent Messages''' here.

• My send box has suddenly changed to "send later" - any suggestions welcome

I don't think I changed anything. Sent emails earlier to day and never had this problem before. Just tried now and it continues to say send later and the emails appear to have disappeared into the ether.

Hi marilynlovett,
Does this also happen when you try to send an email from the default mail app on the device with the same email account? If so, please check with your mail provider and the features that come with the email services.
If not, the only feature I can think of that may prevent a browser to send is another app called "Send Later" or it is a network issue or another extension that is compatible with the mail you are using?
Please let us know!

• Out going mail not sending in mavericks

I've had this problem since upgrading to mavericks, mail not sending and the sntp server showing off line.
I"VE FIXED IT!!!!
Guys hope this helps, the ports show default - 25, 465, 585 in edit smtp settings. Check the next box down - use this port and type in 25, I know its in the default list but its sent my mail when using the custom port.
Hope this helps, I spent all day yesterday on to my server supplier and onto chat with Apple in US but couldnt solve it.
Best of luck!!

For the past few weeks, I have been noticing a similar problem: access to 11 email accounts, and three domains, is blocked on occasion. According to my web hosting company, this is happening because some process was attempting to connect via port 585, an insecure IMAP port; and that an automatic firewall rule was invoked to block those attempts. The blocking would last for about one hour after the last attempt was made to connect.
I'm running Mavericks. If I quit Mail, then restarted one hour later, the problem was resolved. UNTIL Mail attempted to connect to my mail servers, upon which the blocks were triggered again.
I downloaded Little Snitch. It told me, unsurprisingly at this point, that three email accounts were attempting to use port 585 to connect to their mail server. But I DON'T USE IMAP with those accounts! Why Mail is attempting to connect to a port which I haven't configured it to use is the puzzle.
The solution for me: tell Little Snitch to deny any access via port 585.
