Scheduling of BW Reports in background - download to predef folders

Requirement is that when users arrive to work in the morning, the BW reports are readily available.
Any suggestions to schedule BW reports at a predefined time daily and save to a specific location?

You can use "Information broadcasting" to achieve this.
Search for this on the forum.

I have schedule a Report in the Back ground and also entered the spool list so that the mail can be sent to the said users but when the Report is recvd in the mail box it is recvd as html and there are many columnns in my report that are not visible.

Hi,
Once you schedule the ALV report in background you will not get the entire list as it is. The output lenght of the ist generated in the background is set to 255 characters and generally data exceeding this lenght will be turncated.
You cannot download a report in excel in background. The FM's GUI_download will not work in backgorund. You will have to write the data on the application server and then write an additional program to read that data or alternatively use some of the std tcodes to fetch that data to the presentation system.

Hi Irfan,
Here are the steps...
Run the report in background do F9 instead of F8, then give immediate and save.
Then goto Sm35 goto job overview and view the job listed
Choose the job and press the spool button. It will show the list created on the next page. When u clcik the list u can see the ALV output.
To see this the job should be in the finished status.
How to define Periodic Jobs
1.Execute transaction SM36
2.Define Job name, Job class, Target server
3.Click on 'START CONDITION' button
4.Click on 'Date/Time' button
5.Enter Scheduled start DATE & TIME. Check mark 'Periodic Job' field. Click on 'Period values' button and select 'Hourly' or 'Dialy' or 'Weekly' or 'Monthly' or Other period and SAVE. Go back to main screen.
6.Click on 'STEPS' button and enter Program name and Variant under box 'ABAP Program'. Click on 'Print Specification' button and enter Printer name under 'Output device' and SAVE
7.Click on SAVE button until you get message on bottom of the screen that describes 'Job XYZ saved with status: Scheduled'.
8.Click on 'Job overview' button or execute SM37 transaction.
9.Select the appropriate 'Job name', 'User name', 'Job Status' & Schedule date under 'Job start condition' and click on 'Execute' button or press F8.
10.You will now see all your scheduled JOBS.

How to Schedule an Interactive report in Background?

Hi Experts,
The existing program generates Pay-in-slip,in the selection screen i am giving
company code(Parameter) and Dates(select-option) as input,this gives me a list of records(ALV)
with check boxe's if i select the records and click on 'post' button in the basic list then the program prompts with dialouge box to set print parameters for samrt form.
The requiremnt is, in the basic list when we select the check box and click on 'Post' icon the rest of the program should sechdule the job in background and a spool & log has to be generated in SM37.
Would be thankful to one who can guide me regarding this.

What I once did was set sy-batch = 'X' at the appropriate point in the code....not suggesting that as the best solution, but it worked for me at the time...
What I do today is present an SALV, when the user presses a particular function, I do (write statements in my program automatically create a spool for the userid specified in user):

Downloading data from report painter report in background

Hi Guy,
I have a requirement where in have to schedule the job and download the data on application server from report which is been written report writter. there is an option to save the export paramater but i can download it only in forground.
Any one have any idea on this...or the other idea is to run the function and get the values from report written in report writer ...so i can use it in my program and download.

If you run program in Background job sheduled then goto Spool - > there you can file your report - You can download that report.

Using code (in a report1) ...i want to execute a report (report2) in background.....but at the same time i want to pass data (an internal table and a variable) to that report2.
is it possible to pass data like internal table to a executable report and at the same time pass the data to that report.

Reporting Agent will be only supported in the 3.X runtime in 2004s,start using Bex Broadcaster.Reporting agent is going to be obsolete or is would say.
All the new functionalities will be implemented in Broadcaster only.
Advantage -The old Reporting Agent in BW 3.x could pre-calculate the data of a template and access it through the URL . It could not broadcast queries, workbooks or web templates by email or to KM folders.

My Bex program takes more than 20 mins to run and it always hangs up my PC especially when I am trying to do something else in EXCEL.

Reporting Agent and Download Scheduler

Hello All,
    I have an issue with the Reporting Agent and Download scheduler. I am on BW 3.5. I am not familiar with the setup myself (I inherited it), and I would like some basic information.
   Essentially it was working fine until we added some new settings. Now, the Download Scheduler freezes mid-run - just stops - and I am guessing this has to do with the new settings that were created (not by me - again, I just inherited all this).
   Any help, suggestions, links to white papers (Google was NOT helpful) anything at all on this ancient technology would be appreciated.

Use the submit statement.
For example

Where zipr_trans_details is the report name.

CNTL_ERROR while running a report in background mode

Hi,
I am running a report in background on daily basis. I am using cl_gui_custom_container class here and calling the constructor of this class. I am getting a CNTL_ERROR exception at this point. But if i run the same report directly, it is not throwing any exception. The problem is if i schedule it to background. I am not able to sort it out. So please if any body knows, answer this.

I was facing the similar issue in a custom report program. I did apply the logic that you'd mentioned.

ALV report in Background Job

Hi,
We have an report in which we are using FM :- REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY.
In forgroud the Report Header is getting displayed only Once.
When we run the report in background, we are getting in spool in which there are "Page Break and Header" in every page.
Downloading the report to MS Excel from Spool is creating setting problem.
Please tell me "how can we do so while running the report in background, "Page break and header dosen't create i.e only One Header and One Page"

Running ALV REPORT in background

Hi Experts ,
Before writing this query , i went through all the threads related to ALV report in background . But found none of them satisfactory .
I am running a alv report in background . I am not using OO ALV . I am using " REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY" .
This report is schedules through a background job . It is creating a spool .
But I am getting a error message : *" FRONT END NOT AVIALABLE "*
What i have found so far :
I am planning to use sy-batch variable to check whether it is running in background or not , Then I am planning to read the spool and if the spool is created , i will display the ALV .
Is this the correct approach or some other way to generate the ALV REPORT .
Also by this way will the error message *" FRONT END NOT AVIALABLE "* go .
Please advice .

I have the spool generated . But it is waiting status .
The issue here is how I am going to say that the spool is in " Completed " status . Because only after when my spool is in completed status , I want to display the status .
Is there way for this ?

Running report in background

Hi,
1. I am running a report in background, while running if system encounters any error then i want to download this error log to the presentation server, is there any function module to do this if not please suggest another possible solution to download the error log to presentation server.
2. In the above scenario when we are running a program in background, is it necessary to save the error log file on application server or we can download the error log directly to presentation server.
please suggest the possible solutions.

Hi,
While running your program in backgorund mode genrally you can not download any data to prsentation server
there r 2 ways you can solve your problem.
1. Populate the error log and upload it to application server file Download the error log file from the appplication server by Using the command CG3Y.
2. Populate the error log and display it, doing so will create a spool when executed in backgoround now you can go to spool display it and download it to your local system.
These are the simplest ways to do it.
But if you still want your system to transfer error log to local system at the time it is executing in background you can do it by configuring RFC destination in SM59 detail documentation for RFC configuration can be found in the SDN.
