SCHEDULING TYPES

Hi All,
Please guide me to understand the following SCHEDULING TYPES will be grateful.
In transaction "OPU3 " there is a field called "SCHEDULING TYPE"  it has several types (1) Backwards,  (2) Backwards in time,  (3) Current date,  (4) Forwards,  (5) Forwards in time, (6) Only Capacity requirement.
I would like to know the functionality (i.e., Working methodology) with Scheduling & production orders of following SCHEDULING TYPES
Only Capacity requirement
Backwards in time
Current date
Forwards in time
Provide me with simple example.
Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Forward Scheduling
If you have specified forward scheduling in the network header as the schedule type, you must also specify the basic start date of the network.
The system starts from the basic start date and schedules forward in time to calculate the earliest dates of the activities and the scheduled finish first. Then it calculates the latest dates of activities and the scheduled start of the network.
If you have also specified a basic finish date in addition to the basic start date in the network header, the system uses the basic finish date as the starting point for backward scheduling.
Backward Scheduling
If you have specified backward scheduling as the scheduling type in the network header, you must enter the basic finish date of the network.
The system starts from the basic finish date and schedules backward in time to calculate the latest dates of activities and the scheduled start. Then it calculates the earliest dates of activities and the scheduled finish of the network.
If you also enter a basic finish date in addition to the basic start date in the network header, the system uses the basic start date as the starting point for forward scheduling.
Current Date Scheduling
With scheduling to current date, you can see whether the network can be completed by a certain date. In this method, the system uses the basic finish dates and schedules the network backwards and then starting with the current date, schedules forwards.
You can use the floats in the activities to determine how many days you still have or are short to make the finish date.
Only Capacity Requirements
If you specify capacity requirements only as the scheduling type in the network header, the system copies the basic dates from the network header into the scheduled dates and into the earliest and latest dates of all activities.
When you have the system only calculate capacity requirements in scheduling,
o Time constraints of the activities are taken into consideration
          o Relationships are ignored.
Special Function: Today Scheduling
"Today" scheduling is a special function in scheduling. In Customizing for the Project System, you can specify the number the days that the scheduled start may be in the past. If the scheduled start of a network is further back in the past than allowed, the system at first attempts to reduce the duration. If this is not sufficient, the system automatically schedules forward starting with todayu2019s date.
It is possible to have negative float times with today scheduling.
The backwards scheduling calculates a scheduled start that is in the past despite maximum reduction. Forward scheduling then calculates the scheduled finish, starting at todayu2019s date and using maximum reduction.
Thanks

  • Scheduling types in PM order

    Dear All,
Can Anybody explain different types of Scheduling types which are used in sap pm orders? And what are its affects on the order?
    1) Forwards
    2)Backwards
    3)only capacity requirements
    4)current date
    5)Forwards in time
    6)Backward in time.

    Hi,
    Forward scheduling
When you set this indicator, the system schedules:
Orders forwards,  based on the basic start date
Collective orders forwards, based on the specified outline start date
Networks forwards, based on the specified basic start date, and then backwards, based on the scheduled finish date or on the specified basic finish date
    Backward scheduling
If you set this indicator the system schedules
orders backwards starting from the basic finish date
collective orders backwards starting from the framework finish date,
networks backwards starting from the specified basic finish date, then forwards starting from the scheduled start date or the basic start date specified.
    Only calculate capacity requirements
Specifies that the system only calculates capacity requirements.
    Use
In production orders, the system calculates the scheduled start and finish of the order by deducting the float before and after production from the basic order dates (order start and order finish). The calculated dates are written into all operations in the order.
In networks, the system writes the basic dates from the network header into all activities in the network.
If you use this scheduling type, the dates of all the operations/ activities are identical.
The capacity requirements are distributed across the period between the scheduled start and the scheduled finish.
Costing calculates no capacity requirements when this scheduling type is used.
    Schedule from current date
If you set this indicator the system schedules
orders und collective orders forward, starting at today's date
networks backwards, starting at the basic finish date, and then forwards, starting at today's date.
    Foward/Backwards in time:
Basic dates with time of day
You use this indicator to determine for process orders and production orders that when you enter the basic dates, you can also enter the time.

  • Scheduling type - Backwards in time

    Hi,
Please explain the difference between the scheduling types 'Backwards' & 'Backwards in time'.
Case 1: I convert a planned to a process order with 'Backwards' scheduling. Following dates are observed:
    Scheduled finished    2009/08/06   17:00:00
    Basic Finish date        2009/08/07   00:00:00
Case 2: I convert a planned to a process order with 'Backwards in time' scheduling. Following dates are observed:
    Scheduled finished    2009/08/06   17:00:00
    Basic Finish date        2009/08/06   17:00:00
Can anybody explain the basis of difference of behaviour.
    regards,
    Mohit

    Hi,
Using Backward scheduling, when you create a prod order system will allow you to enter only finish date. But using Backward scheduling with time, when you create a prod order system will allow you to enter finish date with time.
You have mentioned 2 cases. Both are same.
    In case1,
    Scheduled finished 2009/08/06 17:00:00
    Basic Finish date 2009/08/07 00:00:00
System finishes the work on 2009/08/06 at 17:00:00. This is the end of the day as per your workcenter (check in capacity header view) and basic finish shows 2009/08/07 00:00:00. This is the start of the next day also known as end of previous day.

  • Process order scheduling type

    Hi Team,
While scheduling the process ord (COR1) , with scheduling type"No scheduling", when we enter any future date in schedule start & finish date, system changes these dates to "future date-1" & time to 24:00. We need that system should not change the date provided by the user ie keep the date as provided by the user.
    Awaiting your suggestions,
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jack

    Please refer following notes, 151503
    In that
In-house production time is larger than 0 days:
For material-related orders, the system interprets the order finish date as a requirements date for the material. Therefore, the following rule applies: If an in-house production time greater than 0 days has been defined in the material master, the requirements date is at the beginning of the day, that is, the order finish date is set to 00:00. In this case, the order finish date of the production finish date differs by one day from the order because the production must have already been finished on the previous day so that the material is available at the beginning of the next day.
With an in-house production time equal to 0 days, it is assumed that the material can be produced at any time of a day. For this reason, the order finish date is set to 24:00

  • Scheduling type

    Hi
What is scheduling type forward in time and backward in time?
How it is different from backward and forward scheduling

    Hi,
    In simple words:
In backward & forwards scheduling the resolution is in days, so when you do scheduling it would be in terms of start date & end date.
With backwards in time & forwards in time, the resolution is in minutes. Meaning you can specify not only the start & end dates but the time with a least resolution of 1 minute. Implying that it is more accurate.
Instead of me writing too much, do a simple test in your sandbox, open any production order, select the scheduling type as forwards in time / backwards in time & you will notice that the time field adjacent to start & finish dates which is grey, will become editable. So for testing specify a time & do scheduling.
Revert if you face any issues.

    Vivek

  • Scheduling type Backwards vs Backwards in time in OPU3

    Hello All,
I have a question regarding the Scheduling type in OPU3.
What is the difference between Backwards and Backwards in time?
    Thanks in advance
    George

    Hi George,
It's nice to ask qns in forums & get feedback from forum members, but i notice that you have marked all your queries as answered, but not acknowledge anyone's inputs or awarded them points.
Don't you think its a matter of courtesy to acknowledge the inputs?
Also would like to request all people who post questions in this forum, to acknowledge & award points to the contributors.
Hope the moderators take note & put in place some checks as there are quite many of such people.

  • Scheduling type for production order.

    Hi Gurus,
i have some doubts about production order scheduling. i have run a scenario OF MTO to Understand The Scheduling. i had created a BOM with  two components. The inhouse production Time of header Material is 3 days.and the scheduling Margin key is op2   flt aft1  flt bfr 1    rl per 2
after creating a sales order i had run MRP in MD50 by selecting scheduling 1 Basic Date Determination. it has taken the 3 days of in house production time and praposed dates.18th as starting date and 20th as finish date.and planed opening period is in past. and it has not praposed any scheduled dates in planned orders.
if i convert the planned order in to production order it is praposing the scheduled dates.
    scenario 2.
if i run the mrp for the same order by taking scheduling type as 2 lead time scheduling.       in planned order itself it is showing sheduled start date and scheduled finsh date. (which not shown in basic date run).
1.so is it mean that what ever the scheduling type we are using in MRP run is only applicable to create Planned orders only while convrting the planned orders in to production order dates will be re detemind. is this currect or wrong?
2.in which scheduling type system will not consider the scheduling margin key?
please help me to understand these questions.
    Thanks&regards,
    Venkat Bolla.

    Hi Venkat,
When MRP is run with '1' Basic Scheduling - Schedule Margin Key is not considered. As you rightly observed it considers the Inhouse Production days mentioned in materials master for fixing the start date. This is exactly to days.
When MRP is run with '2' Lead Time Scheduling - Schedule Margin Key is considered. Dates are calculated from Routing and Capacity requirement calculations are also done. Here calculation are exact to the seconds.
Schedule Margin Key takes effect only for lead time scheduling. Production dates are calculated from the float times of the SMK in the material master and times from the individual operations maintained in routing.
When planned order derived from Basic scheduling is converted to production order it is subjected to lead time scheduling and thus production dates are calculated
Refer to the below discussions on the same topic.

  • Network Scheduling type

    Hi
I have maintained network scheduling tpye as backwards in OPU6 and also maintained as "backwards" in control parameters for WBS scheduling. This is meant for both template project and operative project/network profiles.
I have created a template project with WBS heirarchy along with network activity scheduling types set as backwards.
Now while "including" the template project in an operative project, the system copies all the WBS elements and network activities from template project. However, the network schedulihng type is coming as FORWARDS, instead of "backwards".
Can anyone suggest what could be the problem here??
    Best Regards
    Srikrishna

    Hi,
    your cust. is correct.
activating check box for template profile data while copying the project hopes will resolve the issue.
if the check box is active it copies the data from profile or else it copies data from the project which you copy.

  • How to distinguish the "Schedule type"

    Dear Experts
Please help to let me know which table can show and set the ' Basic schedule" or " Lead Time schedule " for the Material ?
I tried to find in MM03 and MMD3 but fail to get it .
    Thanks a lot !

    Dean,
Not sure I really understand your question.  When people are talking about 'basic vs lead time' scheduling, they are usually talking about one of the MRP parameters.  MRP parameter 'Scheduling' can be set when executing, for instance, transaction MD01.  Here you can determine the scheduling of the Planned orders that are created by MRP:  "Basic" or "Lead time".
So, exactly what table data are you looking for?  What is the purpose of your query?

  • How to make elevator/schedule type persistent across boots (multipath)

    Hello All,
Running OEL 5.5 x64. Have set up multipath no probs, but notice that I get far better performance when using NOOP instead of CFQ, which is the default. Rather than having to change this every time I boot, wondering if there is a way to have it persistent across boots?
The issue is that it seems it must be done at the block level. For example, echo noop > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler . The problem is that these block device paths change all the time. I saw something about doing it within grub.conf, but that did not work for me (http://lonesysadmin.net/2008/02/21/elevatornoop/)
    Thanks in advance!

Hmm... perhaps in udev rules? These execute when the mpath devices are created. I use these to set permissions for mpath devices (at boot time or dynamically when refreshed). That should be the most appropriate place I think...

I guess I still have lots to learn about Flex and Renderers. I downloaded a Gantt chart with Code and they used the AdvancedDataGrid with renderers and such.  I modified the code to work for me. but if I had to create it myself right now, I would be in trouble.  Lots more to learn.

  • ICal Week view, Date is not aligned with the Time(schedule) of each date

Well, just like it says over there (`` ). I've recently been to China for a business trip, and I suppose the different time zone may have had something to do with the problem. Now I'm back home, changed the time zone back to normal, still the iCal shows in the weekly view that the Date on the above is not aligning with the Time and schedule. Any suggetions would be grateful!!!

    Hi,
i omit the scheduling maergin key in material master,
    the result of MRP is
    BASIC DATES
    Finish 15.10.2009
    Start 14.10.2009
    PRODUCTION DATES
    15.02.2010 14:33:25
    14.10.2009 07:00:00
scheduling type i planned order is still "backwards"
so in MD04 it is say that the goods is available at 15.10.2009 same with requirement dates.
    this seem not right.
it seems that order finish date is not adjusted by lead time scheduling on "today scheduling".
Is there a way so order finish date is adjusted by lead time scheduling on "today scheduling" ????

  • Schedule line date in Sale order for backward sched.

    Dear Experts,
In my MTO Scenario, I want to Use Backward Scheduling, so as any change in Schedule line dates in Sale order shall take effect at least in planned order Stage, i.e in output of MRP,
    But not happening so..
I  have customized OPU5 and checked OPU3 as well,
    Please suggest...

    Raghu

    HI Mario,
    Thanks for reply,
I have not worked in this strategy but will try,
What i found was, in Planned orders detailed scheduling tab, the Scheduling type appeares to be Forward, but when i convert it to Production order it shows backward scheduling.
This duel behavior is difficult to understand.

  • Unable to schedule a maintenance order

    HI
I created a maiantenance order via IP10. In IW32, when I click on the schdeuling icon, I get the message 'scheduling carried out..', but when I look at the operation > dates, the early & latest start dates are in the past are in the past (09/12/2011 & 14:55:00) and early start and finsh dates are 09/14/2011 (17:00:00). why is it not scheduling? Where are my basic & scheduled dates along with other information like sched type, rel date, etc?
In customising I set the scheduling type as backward, the contorl key is PM05 and has checked for everything and in the resource master data - in the capacity tab and other formula is SAP008 and schedling tab, other formula is SAP004 and capacity category is set for fintie sched, LTP, can be used in serveral operations.
In the task list, I maitained duration as 11 hrs and claculation key as 'manually', the work field is greyed out (why?), number = 1 etc.
    I'm in ECC 6.0.
What else should I check? Pl. let me know.
    Thanks
    BE

    Hi
I'm using a package of cylce length 24 H and the start date I specified in IP10 is current date (that probably explains the start date in the past - where do I change the scheduling type from 'backward' to 'forward'?). In the operation (only one operation), I've maintained a duration of 11 hours. The 'work' fiedl is greyed out - is that an issue? If yes, what should I do to open it up? The key for caluclation is set to 'maintain manually'. If I change it to 'calaculate duration' in the order, the error msg is 'Enter units when calculating work or duration' and if change it to calculate work, then the error is 'Calculation of labor made in service package --> calculation key replaced'.
Is there anything else I should check?
    thanks
    BE
