  • How do I setup Touchsmart610 with Cablevision Scientific Atlanta HD Cablebox?

I would like to get HD picture and use TOUCHSMART 610 as a DVR.  I have a Cablevision Scientific Atlanta HD DVR that I would like to get rid of - want to split signal from an HD Cablebox to both big screen TV and Touchsmart.  It is fine to have same station on both regular HDTV and Touchsmart -- but I want to be able to record and replay on touchsmart rather than pay the $12+/month for the Cablevision DVR.  Is this possible?

    Hi tomGlenCove:
Oh I forgot about your cable box.  You need three co axe cables and a Three way co axe cable spliter.  Run one cable out from cable box on the end of it connect the three way connector the connect the other two cables run one to pc and the other one to the tv.  You can watch different channels on both computer and tv.  Open up help and support type in help and support search box pc to tv. Direction and cables are given in detail. If you should decide to view what ever on your touchsmart on your TV.  I am not sure how it works going from  PC  to TV just by two antenna cables. I do not have a television  to experiment with. Just have two computers Sony 22 inch and Touchsmart 23 inch.

  • ATV2 + Time Warner / Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240 HDC DVR Problem?

Ok here is a weird one. Prior to the installation of the ATV2 the TW cable box was stable and trouble free. ATV2 was installed one week ago, software update went fine, Airplay, MobileMe, Netflix, Remote works great over wireless N. ATV2 and the cable box are plugged into separate HDMI ports on the TV.
The cable box now does a hard reset / reboot periodically on it's own, especially if the ATV2 has been used recently. Cable TV signal, post spontaneous reset, and Roadrunner internet appear to be fine. No telephone connection to the cable modem.
No firmware/software updates are available for the Sony KDL-40XBR4 TV. Not sure if there are any for the Scientific Atlanta cable box, not sure I would try one on my own but may if it would help. TW chat help sounded confused when I asked "why is my cable box counting down in hexadecimal?"
Any ideas other than swapping the cable box as TW suggested.
I am going to do a reset on the ATV2 just for grins and will post the results if that should solve the problem. Thanks!

    I would assume that either:
1 - Your cable box is faulty and giving up the ghost
2 - Possibly AppleTV2 IR remote codes are activating some menus or service menus on the TW box - I can't really see how else using AppleTV could affect the TW box.
For 2, if you have an iPad/iPhone try controlling AppleTV with the Remote app for some time to see if the TW box is more stable.

  • Trying to attach my time capsule to my cable modem box, which is a Virgin media Scientific Atlanta box. Problem is the apple set up tells my to put in the IP address for the virgin cable modem, which I cannot find. Can any on assist?

can any one help with is problem.

In what screen of what application are you asked to enter that IP address?  The only place I'd expect to see such a prompt is to let AirPort Utility access another AirPort base station.  Your Scientific Atlanta box isn't one.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

  • Apple Airport Express - Scientific Atlanta Modem

I purchased a new Apple Airport Express to be used with a Time Warner Scientific Atlanta Modem. All connections are via RJ 45 cables. Apparently the AE is unable to make the proper IP adjustments beginning 198 (currently it is set on IP adress beginning 164).  I called TW tech support, of course they say it is an Apple issue and no their problem.  I tried killing all devices and rebooting the modem after 15 minutes, followed by the AE after 15 minutes, then turned on the iMac.  No change...same IP address. Any advice is appreciated.

Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Express firmly for 10 seconds
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
If Mavericks or the iOS devices cannot see the Express, you have a defective Express.
Note....the Express will not "boost" or "extend" the signal from your wireless router wirelessly....unless you have another Apple router.

  • Cannot configure AE with Comcast Internet/"Scientific Atlanta" Modem

I used to have ADSL overseas, now I cannot reconfigure my AE to set up my wireless network with my cable internet connection. I can connect to the internet with the ethernet cable just fine.
Comcast says it should be fine with automatic under DHCP setting. But they do not provide support for Airport.
Reading some of the suggestions on this forum, I tried to reset my AE to the factory setting and now my computer cannot detect the base station at all.
    Any suggestions?

AirPort Express Base Station Setup (AX) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the Cable modem, AX, & computer(s). (If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
Perform a "hard" reset of the AX
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
    Setup the AX
With the network components powered down, set up the AX, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: Ethernet
    - Configure: Using DHCP
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
    AirPort tab (optional)
    - Create a closed network (checked)
    Change Wireless Security
    - Wireless Security: WPA Personal or WPA2 Personal
    - Encryption Type: WPA and WPA2
Base Station Options - WAN Ethernet Port
    - Enable Ethernet Port (checked)
    - Enable SNMP Access (unchecked)
    - Enable Remote Configuration (unchecked)
    - Enable Remote Printer Access (unchecked)
    Wireless Options
    - Transmitter Power: 10%
    Access Control tab (optional)
    - + <add the computer(s) that will access this wireless network>

  • How do I purchase a Scientific Atlanta IPN router with the DVR?

I'm enjoying having at&t U-Verse. I couldn't believe it's routers from a Cisco division. Thing here is that I want to have a DVR in my own room which I can record my own shows. I don't even know how to stream the shows from the downstairs router to upstairs bedroom.

  • Scientific Atlanta EMTA DPC2425 MIBs - to reset ethernet interfaces.

    Hi,
I need to get the correct MIB to reset the physical ethernet ports of the EMTA model DPC2425.
I have tried the standard OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.69.1.1.3.0 that works on others DPC versions but with the DPC2425 "switch embeded" does not work. Also I tried this tow OIDs
    1.3.6.1.4.1.1429.77.1.3.15
    1.3.6.1.4.1.1429.77.1.3.17
We need that the Ethernet Interfaces shutdown and power On after applying the correct OID. The idea is that the CPE behind the EMTA detects a link "failure" or down to refresh the DNS cache. This is for use a captive portal seved to clients.
We have applied this SNMP instruction with the default MIB
    [root@optimus ~]# snmpset -v 2c -c private 10.55.26.243 .1.3.6.1.2.1.69.1.1.3.0 i 1
    SNMPv2-SMI::mib-2.69.1.1.3.0 = INTEGER: 1
The result is a logical reset of the ethernet interfaces, but not Physical "This mean there`s not a LINKUP - LINKDOWN". The PC behind the EMTA only detects that the default gateway is not answering.
    I appreciate your help.

Unplugging the power to the cable modem for 30seconds should be good enough. As for the router, you should be able to get by without a reset if it is set to DHCP for the internet connection type.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • WRT54GS with Mac OS 10.6.8 and RCN cable modem not working

    Hello,
I have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 6 with Mac OS X (version 10.6.8) hooked up to a Scientific Atlantic cable modem, with RCN as the ISP.
Recently, RCN had some network issues, and so I had to power down and reset my modem. The modem is working fine now -- no problems at all when the Mac is connected direclty to the modem.
The router's network is OK in that I can connect the Mac wirelessly to the network, but I can't connect to the internet through the router (through neither the wireless or wired connection).
I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the router, following the Linksys site instructions, but this has not helped me solve the problem.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I did call Linksys tech support on the advice of RCN, and they said that the router does appear to be working (power, WLAN, and Internet lights are on), but they would be charging me nearly the cost of a new router to fix the problem.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Since you upgraded the Router WRT54GS with the latest firmware so once reset the Router and power cycle the whole network… Then connect the Modem with Linksys Router on the Internet Port and then connect any one computer to any one of the Ethernet port on the Router [Numbered – 1, 2, 3 and 4]… Let me know the RCN connection is a DSL connection or cable connection…
So if you have a DSL connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=4020&userrole=Linksy...
So if you have a Cable Internet Connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&vw=1&articleid=3686
As far as the wireless is concern:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page…
    # Then Click on wireless Tab create the Wireless Network Name SSID and select the channel to 6, 9, and 11… Click Save Settings...
    # Then Click on Wireless Security sub tab and select the security mode and provide the password as per the requirement… Click Save Settings...
After doing the settings try to connect the preferred network on the wireless devices and check the connectivity….

  • Can not access router page for WRT54GS

I can not tell what version my router is because it does not say on the bottom. everything is connected properly. coaxial is inserted into the modem, and when i connected the ethernet cable from the modem to my computer i get internet. Fine..dandy. now when i install that same wire to the INTERNET port on the router, and HARDWIRE to ANY of the ports to the router it works...cool! NOW when i try to access 192.168.1.1 NOTHING. it times out. so my ipaddress before and after holding the reset power for 30 seconds, and after power cycling (power down computer, than power down router, than power modem....than power up modem, wait till all lights come on...turn on router..all lights are on, and flashing(Internet, 1, and Power) EXCEPT the DMZ and WLAN lights on the router are off my ipaddress is 68.196.15.56, and my default gateway is 68.196.0.1. When i try to connect to 68.196.0.1 which is the default gateway i still get nothing. my cable modem is a scientific atlanta POS cisco product. I even double, and triple checked my tcp/ip connection under the general tab, and set them both to "obtain an ip address automatically", and the "obtain DNS server address automatically". Was so even crazy to empty internet cache, cookies, and temp files. I use both IE and Mozilla with ALL firewall (McAfee HIPS, and the antivirus turned off). I'm at a lost...if anyone has anything or any ideas, i downloaded the software for the router, and when i go to install it i get this error "Please check the tutorial to set your computer to DHCP". no clue guys i'm a pretty pathetic tech guy if you ask me. so i leave it to ya'll

ensure that you have the following connections done
1)connect the modem to the router's internet port
    2)connect the computer to the router's port#1
3)there should not be any usb cable connected between the modem and the computer
if all of the above is fine
1)make sure that the computer gets an ip add of 192.168.1.x and the default gateway is 192.168.1.1
2)if yes , access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . the default password is admin

Did you create a New Project with the AVCHD - 5.1 SS Audio Preset?
If so, then the Audio should go onto Audio 1 Track. If not, then it will go to a higher numbered Audio Track, and you will need to scroll the Timeline vertically to see that Audio Clip.
Also, when you Imported that Clip, did you allow it to Conform the Audio? This ARTICLE will give you some background.
    Good luck,

  • Remote not working cable box

I just picked up a new remote control for Comcast yesterday. I was able to program the remote for the TV after several trys but the cable is not working. The cable light comes on but nothing else. I am able to adjust the volume but no other buttons work. The instructions claim that the remote is preprogrammed. I have a Sharp Tv and Scientific Atlantic converter box. I also unplugged the dta box and let it reset and still no results  thanks

I googled and I found this. Worked like a charm. ETA: the website: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/whichremote/thread.cgi?398 Try assigning device code 1376 to the CBL device key:
    1. Press CBL key
    2. Press and hold SETUP until CBL blinks twice
    3. Type 1376
It should blink twice. If it blinks long once, it could be one of two problems. One could be that CBL device is locked. To unlock it:
    1. Press CBL key
    2. Press and hold SETUP unit CBL binks twice
    3. Type 982
If it blinks four times, now it's unlocked and you can do the above step to set to it to 1376. If it blinks twice, that means it was unlocked and now is locked, and you need to do the step above again to unlock it again. It also means that 1376 code is not present for some reason (possibly it was completely reset).
You could use device code CBL/0476, which is built in, but it will not have the DVR commands and you would have to use advanced codes to program that in manually. I would just get a new one (that's has the correct code), but if you want to program them in instead of bothering to go back to the cable company, I can give you the list of codes for the missing commands and how to program them in.

  • Apple TV + HDTV Problem

    Hello all,
I'm having an issue w/ our Apple TV and I'd like to see if anyone else can help.
We have a 40GB Apple TV w/ the current firmware 2.4.
We had a Samsung 42" Plasma 1080i/720p HDTV for a little over two years. We bought the Apple TV 6 months ago and every couple of days, the TV would fail to recognize the Apple TV--it would just sit there w/ a black screen, dead, and no picture. Rebooting would help for a little while but the only sure-fire fix was to unplug it, and plug it back in. This issue happened on average once a week. I had done 2 factory restores on the unit and it made no difference.
Our Samsung TV XY panel died so we were able to get it replaced under the insurance plan we had on it, and went with a JVC 42" LCD 1080p HDTV. Coincidentally, this TV has an iPod dock in the front of it as well, and works great w/ our 5th gen iPod nano (as well as iPhones)
The same issue that affected the Samsung Plasma also happens on the JVC (even after a 3rd factory restore). However, on this TV set, if I change source (ie. HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3) or turn the TV off/on, the TV cannot recognize the Apple TV at all. I took it to the Apple Store @ Brea Mall, and they said they had seen this before, and offered to replace it. A few days later, I picked up the replacement Apple TV, took it home an hooked it up. Sure enough, same issue.
I have two different brands of HDMI cable (Philips and Pure|AV), as well as 3 other HDMI devices (PS3, Scientific Atlanta HD DVR, Xbox 360) that each work/worked fine with both the previous TV (Samsung) and the current TV (JVC). The only one that has an issue is the Apple TV.
I contacted AppleCare and they said to take it back to the store and ask them to test it w/ their TV set on TV (a Pioneer). The repair tech at the Brea store tested it and sure enough, it had the exact same issue on their TV that it did on mine--when he changed/cycled the sources, the Apple TV (the 2nd one) would not show a picture when put back on the same port. The repair tech offered to replace it but I asked that he just document it and I will contact AppleCare (that's what the rep @ Applecare told me to do).
AppleCare sent me out a 3rd unit (which I currently have) and it is also having the same issue as the previous two, except this one has a very-VERY-very dim LED light on the front (almost not on). We did try the 2nd one on Component (1080i) and it worked fine, however, I cannot use it on HDMI with any of them.
According to AppleCare, they are "looking into it" but I have absolutely no idea what that means. This issue is going from weeks to months now and I wish I had never bought this thing, but my wife loves it and wants to get it to work. I'd use Component but it does not output at 1080p as advertised.
Does anyone have any experience with issues like this? Any suggestions? Thank you (in advance)
    El Oso

Thanks everyone for your responses.... in an effort to reply to all of you at once, here goes...

Have you looked in your manual to see if a particular port needs setting up correctly (i.e renamed from HDM 1 to PC for example)
I just looked through the JVC manual, it mentions no such port--it appears they're all the same. I've tried changing the identifier both as PVR, Bluray Disc, Cable, etc., and no setting makes any difference (I believe it's a simple naming scheme).

Although the symtoms may not be the same, the solution may point to the same problem with some sets HDMI circuitry. The $17 Monoprice adapter solution might be a cheap solution to your problem with the JCV's HMDI circuitry.
Thanks but I'm afraid it's not the same issue I am having; I'm getting no video or audio after I switch source or turn off the TV. If I turn the Apple TV on while the TV is already on, it works until I change the source or power off the TV set. When I power the TV set back on, same issue all over again.

I think there is a fundamental problem with the way an ATV handles HDMI, as this is an issue that often comes up here, and whether any given owner experiences it appears to depend on the specific hardware they're using.
Definitely, it has happened on both TV sets yet seems more prevalent on the newer JVC vs. the older Samsung (which we no longer have)
Based on various other reports posted in the forum here, such problems appear to occur more often with certain brands of TVs and amps than others, but, based on my own experiences, I'd have to say the problem rests with the ATV. Otherwise, it wouldn't be the only device that so many people have been having problems when everything else works.
You wouldn't believe how much angst I've gone through w/ "Apple care" over this. The product specialist I spoke to first said it had to be the TV set (even after I explained it happened on both TVs). When I took it to the store (2nd time) and they replicated it, he finally capitulated that there is definitely a problem w/ the unit.
In your case, if you have an HDMI switch or an A/V amp with HDMI ports, you might try connecting it through that rather than directly to the TV and see if it makes a difference. Given the consistency of your problems, that may be the only way to salvage the situation for the sake of your wife.
Ya no doubt, she's not exactly happy about it not working, and we have a dozen or so iTunes movies we cannot watch on our TV set. I can hook it up via component but it's not what it was billed as (1080p w/ digital HDMI signal). Plus, I have a PS3 which has not had one single problem w/ either TV set (Samsung or JVC)--the 360 hasn't had any issues, nor has our Cable TV DVR box.

  • Apple TV on Motorola Set Top Box Killing Wireless

Thought I'd share this find.  Problem with set top box, not Apple TV.
Just moved into this house.  Changed service providers from Comcast to Verizon.  Only change in setup between houses is set top box from SP.
    Setup:
Verizon router/AP in home office (adjacent to family room)
    Family room
Motorola set top box with Roku or Apple TV sitting on top
External HD to left of set top box
PS3 on shelf below set top box
Soundbar and TV on shelf above set top box
Immediately noticed in new house that when Roku was downloading data/video, the download was extremely slow and the rest of the wireless network appeared to go down.  The Roku was pretty much unusable.  I would see wireless signal and Internet connection bounce.  But it wasn't consistent, and I couldn't identify a pattern.  I used inSSIDer and Android wifi analyzer.
So, I figured the problem was with my 1st generation Roku.  Thought maybe that the wireless radio was shot.  So I trashed the Roku and purcahased an Apple TV today.  Same problem!  Wireless and Internet bouncing.
So, I moved the Apple TV off of the set top box.  I moved it to its own shelf on the TV stand.  All is well now!
My conclusion is that the metal chassis of the Motorola set top box was doing something to the 2.4GHz signal.  I recall that my Comcast set top box was Scientific Atlanta.
Also, I'm ultimately happier with the Apple TV because of its integration with my iMac, MacBook and iPad.

It would need HDMI or the three component jacks to input to.
DirectTV box has HDMI out but not in.
Best is to see if your TV has the component video jacks or multiple HDMI and switch via your TV remote.
For example my Bravia has 2 sets of component input and 3 HDMI inputs.
Hopefully, you have a newer TV.
