Scim makes leafpad take a while to load, except when run from terminal
Leafpad normally loads up in an instant. But with scim running (More specifically with the required environment variables exported. Scim simply running without the environment variables does not cause the problem, but then scim does not work.), although it shows up immediately, the scrollbar, menubar etc are greyed out for a few seconds and the program cannot be used until it is fully loaded.
I'm sure this is specifically a leafpad problem, because there is no noticable lag in other programs. (Mousepad for example is fine.) However, the fact that it loads immediately when run from a terminal scares me. Why doesn't gmrun (and the fvwm menu) work just like a terminal? Is there a possible fix to this problem?

Upon applying for Telstra contract, salesman filled out all details & I was approved immed. He grabbed a new iPad 2 from the store's stock, all plastic wrapped, a white 32 gb. He then asked me if I needed to go and do some shopping as he had mucked something up and had to redo application. Everything had been completed and approved on screen, so I wasn't sure why he had asked me to come back in half an hour. I did so, and upon arriving back he was standing at the desk, iPad in hand together with receipt and box, no evidence of shrink wrap. As I already had bought a red cover, he basically grabbed that and slipped the iPad straight into it, without really asking me, and said, all ready to go. Was a bit surprised but accepted that. Did not see it being unwrapped, sim inserted or anything. Thought it to be odd, and without any further advice, was handed bag, box and receipt. Got home, thought it looked a bit fingerprinty, then wondered why it was basically set up ready to go. He knew I was a gadget freak, owning 25 wifi related devices, but had never bought apple products so he said I'd have no problems. There was virtually no set up to go through except for asking if I had an apple ID which I didn't so I created that and away I went. I was looking through the settings a bit later and noticed the ITunes said to sync back with WILLS-MSI when it was available. WILLS is the name of the store. There was a 32 gb white iPad 2 as a display model and now I am seriously wondering if he has taken that off the shelf and given to me. I have never in my life bought a display model and never would. From my description do you think I may be right? ( even the silver back looked 'not quite new').
OPINIONS appreciated, is there anyway of checking to see if a reset has been done as I am not at all happy & will be going straight to store manager on opening of store. -
Why is it when I rent a movie from Apple it takes all night to load & when I try to play it starts to load again for a while before it plays ? Netflix loads & plays in seconds [ usually] in the same device!

One of the main reasons this occurs is because Netflix uses a feature called adaptive quality and iTunes uses a fixed quality. Netflix is able to reduce its quality to such an extent when it detects that you have a poor Internet connection that the data rate of the movie is as low as 0.5 Mb per second, on the other hand if you have chosen to view an HD movie from iTunes U have chosen a movie with a data rate as high as 5 Mb per second. -
When I purchased my iMac last month the pages would load quickly when using the internet browser. Now it takes much longer to load the pages and when I watch a video it pauses to catch up or is rebuffering the streaming. What can I do to speed up my browser?

Failed to load TemplateStream when called from API, but OK in Workbench
I am getting a "Failed to load TemplateStream for FormQuery" error when I invoke a simple process using the Java API. When I invoke the same process from WorkBench it's fine. I am using the FormsService in ES 8.2 turnkey installation. The operation is "renderPDFForm". Content Root URI is set to repository:// and Form to Render is set to /CANS_ASP/CANS_ASP.pdf, which is in the repository. Why would this work when invoked by way of right clicking in WorkBench, but not work when the process is invoked by the Java API?
Here's the whole error:

JaredThis problem is not solved, but I have a workaround. I have gotten it working by avoiding the repository and specifying the form location from the file system. This works:
Content Root URI: file:///C:\\
Form to Render: CANS_ASP.pdf
In case it wasn't clear, I'm not using a FormServiceClient object. I'm invoking an orchestration using a ServiceClient. The Content Root URI and Form To Render are specified in the properties of my renderPDFForm component in Workbench. I'm able to move ahead with development using this workaround for now, but the question remains about why repository:// does not work when my orchestration is invoked using the Java API but it works fine when tested from WorkBench.

Do pages usually take a while to load??
I published my iweb site to a folder, as well as to imac and it seems the site pages are slow to load. I have images as my browser background for some of the pages. Would this affect the loading of the site, or will this issue be fixed once I publish the site to another server?? Thanks.

Music transfers very slow and takes a while to load in player- yahoo mu
I got the new beta firmware and I downloaded about 650 songs via Yahoo music unlimited. I tranfered only about 250 songs in 2 hours... I have USB . but it shouldnt be this slow. Also when I try to play the songs on my mp3 player they take about 0 seconds to start up. When I play an album straight threw the songs usually dont take awhile to load up next to next song, but when I change the song they always take awhile. I wonder if these problems are just becuase of the beta firmware. The reason why I got this player was becuase it worked with subsciption music, but it seems to be kinda buggy right now
Well I have done the disk cleanup and it still didnt fix it. I just got this player yesterday too I have about 3.5 gigs on it. I didnt get my usb 2.0 system yet, but im just really worried about these long load times for the songs on the player. Im gona try loading some mp3s and see how those go.
edit... I just loaded up some MP3s and they start in about 3-4 seconds. A lot faster then my WMAs from yahoo, but still I was expecting mp3s to play instantly pretty much.Message Edited by Johnwashere on 05-2-2005 2:26 AM -
Mozilla runs fine with other web sites but when I use Google Maps it struggles to load up maps. Looks like there is a constant exchange between Google and Mozilla which is slowing up the loading. This has only been happening about 3 weeks ago, it was perfect before that so maybe it could be the Mozilla update that I accepted.
try replacing the sim card after that it needs to be replaced and since you had some one else open up the phone you would lose the out of warranty replacement price and have to buy a new one at the full retail value

Loading fails, when classes from other packages are referenced
My applet follows a simple package structure.
There's package P1 and there's another package in it P2 (P1.P2)
P1 contains Applet class A.
P2 contains another class C and interface I. C implements I.
A contains a reference of C, which is initialized in the constructor. The use in the constructor of the A (the applet) is something like this

}Trying to load this applet throws error saying "Package Loading failed". Important is to note that the loading occurs successfully by commenting out this line i = (I) C.getC (); //where i is a reference of type I. , without any other change.
I understood this to be some problem with the AIDs assigned to both the packages while converting. Unsure of what's the correct way to assign the PIX values, I've been trying some permutation/combinations, it doesn't seem to work.
Has neone already faced this problem & knows the solution? (The specs aren't much help)One more point ..... I mentioned commenting the statements, I DO NOT commment the other statements referencing the other package. This means that the loading IS succesfull, even when these two lines reside in there.
1. import P1.P2.*; 2. private I i = null;Above two lines pass the loader. The object creation gets stuck.
Wonder if the package references are actually alright, because JVM wud've treated both situations in a similar way. JCVM is ofcourse different but JCVM spec does not say nething abt this situation (rem: everything is public, so the access control restrictions also do not apply)

Make can't recursively call Make when run from Runtime.exec (for some user)
This one is a little complicated. The afflicted platform is Mac OS X. It works fine on Linux, it seems, and even then, it does work for some Mac OS X users...
First, the setup. I have a Java program that has to call GNU Make. Then, GNU Make will recursively call Make in some subdirectories. This results in the following Java code:
String make = "make"; //on windows, I have this swapped with "mingw32-make"
String workDir = ...; //this is programmatically detected to be the same folder that the parent Makefile is in
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(make,null,workDir);This calls make on a Makefile which has the following line early on to be executed (this is only a snippet from the makefile):
cd subdirectory && $(MAKE)When I fetch the output from the make command, I usually get what I expect: It cd's to the directory and it recursively calls make and everything goes smoothly.
However, for one particular user, using Mac OS X, he has reported the following output:
cd subdirectory && make
/bin/sh: make: command not found
make: *** [PROJNAME] Error 127Which is like, kinda hurts my head... make can't find make, apparently.
I've gotten some suggestions that it might be due to the "cd" command acting wonky. I've gotten other suggestions that it may be some strange setup with the env variables (My Mac developer is implementing a fix/workaround for 'environ', which is apparently posix standard, but Mac (Mr. Posix Compliance...) doesn't implement it. When he finishes that, I'll know whether it worked or not, but I get the feeling it won't fix this problem, since it's intended for another area of code entirely...
Also worth mentioning, when the user calls "make" from the terminal in said directory, it recurses fine, getting past that particular line. (Later on down the road he hits errors with environ, which is what my aforementioned Mac dev is working on). Although calling "make" by hand is not an ideal solution here.
Anyways, I'm looking for someone who's fairly knowledgeable with Runtime.exec() to suggest some way to work around this, or at least to find out that perhaps one of the User's settings are wonked up and they can just fix it and have this working... that'd be great too.

Already read it. I already know the dreadful wonders of Runtime.exec. But in this case, it's been working fine for us up until one Mac user reported that make can't find make.
Also, why are you still coding for Java 1.4? If you are not, use a ProcessBuilder, which takes a small part of the pain out of dealing with processes.Usually I do use a ProcessBuilder. I noticed that it usually delegates to Runtime.exec() anyways, and seeing as I didn't need any of the additional functionality, I decided to just use Runtime.exec() in this particular case.

[SOLVED] .Xresources refuses to load except when loaded manually
I'm running i3+SLiM with my URxvt config in .Xresources and
xrdb -merge ~./Xresources
in my .xinitrc but every time I start i3, the config is not loaded and URxvt appears in its default form. When I open the terminal and type the same xrdb command any subsequent terminals I open (even after closing the original) are now using the correct configuration.
I've tried all of the variations I've seen on various help threads including -load and
[[ -f ~/.Xresources ]] && xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated!
EDIT: I can also put it in my .zshrc and watch as the first window is default and every other terminal I open is configured...

I don't understand why this is happening? It doesn't happen all the time, only with some videos. Haven't changed my settings or anything. Exporting in H.264.
This is the issue. Obviously this picture makes it look a little more dramatic but that's what it looks like when moving frame by frame. I was told by someone that this is called interlacing, but they may be wrong and I may be in the complete wrong discussion. But if they're correct, then no, I do not want it to be interlaced. Camera takes along time to load and freeze's when taking video or picture
When it freeze's it dont let me go to the home screen.... it takes a while to load and i have never done anything to it. Someone please help.!!!!
Try a reset. It cures many ills and nothing is lost.

Firefox 3.6 takes several minutes to load under windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
Firefox was working fine on windows 7 x64. Then I loaded some shell extensions to allow symmmbolic links to fies as my SSD was filling up and I wanted to move some applcation data off the system drive. This caused problems with acronis backup so I unloaded the extensions and reinstalled acronis. Not everything works as before except that firefox takes 3 minutes to load. When initiated it shows up in the processes on process explorer as running but doesn't show up as an applicationrunning for three minutes or so.
Have tried unlintstalling and reinstalling firefox, allowing it through my firewall and using the prefetch option in the shortcut without success.Yeah i have done that a couple of times. When i navigate through the disk it doesn't even let me run setup.exe, so i installed from bootcamp64.msi. Then after 3.0 installs, i try to update to 3.1 and after the nvidia install, it just quits. When i use my version tracker it says that boot camp is in version 3.0, and it shows an update for 3.1 in software update. Now when i go to uninstall programs, it shows boot camp 3.1 is installed.
As far as the audio, i have tried that as well. If i manually put a driver into that device, it fails on every reboot. It only shows working on Microsoft High Deff Audio Drivers( and it actually dosnt even work, it just glows red on my head phone jack.)
Im stumped.
