If you still want an empty badge go for the SCJP exam with the highest number. If anyone bothers, 6 is better than 5 which is better than 4 etcetera.
If you really want to improve yourself as programmer take a set of courses at a decent community college. Concentrate on algorithms & data structures.

    hi saideep....
this is vinny...i have recently given scjp1.4 and passed with 91%
if you wants to prepare scjp1.4 khalid mughal is sufficient but if you wants to try for scjp5.0 kathy sierra is good as khalid doesn't covers some latest topics from
scjp5.0 curriculum like AUTOBOXING,STATIC IMPORTS etc.
if you want any help you may consult me.

  • SCJP 1.4 certification primer

The Sun Certified Java Programmer (SCJP) examination has recently been updated for J2SE 1.4, which means you'll have to jump through some new hoops to get a passing score. In this primer to SCJP certification, Pradeep Chopra, cofounder of WHIZlabs Software, outlines some of the most important changes to the SCJP 1.4 exam, suggests several ways to prepare for it, and offers some sample questions</a> to get you started.

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a java certification voucher against cash payment, but the centre from where I had purchased it didn't gave me any receipt for that. Now I am wondering if this is ok or I may face some problem afterwards when I go to the prometric center for getting registered.
I am absolute novice so please tell me what should I do? Also suggest me which certification should i opt for : the scjp for java 2 platform or the scjp for java 2 platform(v1.4).
    Thanks in advance,

  • Re: Need Help In SCJP Exam.

Everything can be handled by Sun's SCJP site, which I found as the first entry in Google under "SCJP".
    1) http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/scjp.xml
    2) Any promotions are at that page, unless you have something special with a partnership or something.
    3) http://www.amazon.com, search for SCJP
    4) http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/scjp.xml
    5) http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/scjp.xml
    6) There's a lot of info on the Sun site and around the web by searching for SCJP, but if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask here.

    Hey Thanks
i would like to know one question's answer.
as i heard Sun Exam voucher is the same for all the exams (SCJP,SCWCD,SCBCD,SCDJWS,SCJA,SCEA-Part1,SCMAD).
so how do i will get for scjp 1.6 exam voucher i need to ask in examination center or while scheduling i can schedule for SCJP 1.6.
    Thank for Reply.

  • SCJP 1.4 or 1.5?

Which one is better to take? which is better recognised?
I have checked Sun's website and the only thing I know is:
    1) Various changes in topic that will be examined
    2) 1.5 is newer (obviously)
yet, there are still many people choosing to take 1.4 instead of 1.5... is there something advantageous in 1.4 compared to 1.5?
Some of you frequent & resourceful ones might have seen my posts when I was learning while practicing Java. Now I think I am prepared to take the test. However, what company will need programmers specialised in Java solely? 2ndly, the description of SCJP says that by passing the exam, the contestants are proved to have basic understanding on structure and syntax of Java. I know Java is quite demanding, but is a SCJP qualified programmer worth anything? or is it just a very basic start in which you need to get other qualifications where SCJP cert. is just a prerequisite?
btw, I did not see any age minimum allowed for taking the exam on Sun's page.... I am 16 now... Do you have to be an adult to take the exam?
    please help
    thx

However, what company will need programmers
specialised in Java solely? Usually those that have Java software. And as a programmer, you're screwed anyway if you only know one language. Plus, the SCJO may show that you know Java, but it doesn't make you a good programmer.
    2ndly, the description of
SCJP says that by passing the exam, the contestants
are proved to have basic understanding on structure
    and syntax of Java.What I said. :)
I know Java is quite demanding,
but is a SCJP qualified programmer worth anything? orDepends on where you ask. I India, certainly. OTOH, I think none of my co-workers has the SCJP. (Neither have I.)
is it just a very basic start in which you need to
get other qualifications where SCJP cert. is just a
    prerequisite?IMO, it's just gold plating.
btw, I did not see any age minimum allowed for taking
the exam on Sun's page.... I am 16 now... Do you have
to be an adult to take the exam?Depends on your country. You might need your parent's permission to make the deal with Sun. The exam itself has no age limit. There were younger SCJP owners than you.

  • SCJP Studying problem

    Hello all,
I am currently studying for the SCJP, however I am finding a MAJOR problem with studying. During the reading of the chapters, I manage to understand exectly what the book explains. I also experiment and try out things, however, when I come to make the small exam that each chapter offers, I get a very low mark. I would like to know if this is a typical thing that happens to everyone or if its me. Like for example.. I know an abstract class must be marked abstract and each method which is not going to be implemented must end with a semicolon and be marked abstract.... however I still manage to get the question wrong.. I feel I know the subject but during the exam, I flip.
Does this thing happen to any of you people? This is getting very boring and demotivating a lot!!
Thanks.. I need some CONSTRUCTIVE arguments or anything POSITIVE please :) (if you know what I mean hehe)

Learn to read and understand the questions as well as the material they cover.
Low scores if you know the subject under examination is almost always a result of not reading the question properly, either by being rushed (and thus not taking your time) or by a poor understanding of the language the questions are worded in (meaning English, not Java).
If you're also nervous (as you shouldn't be for a practice test in a book, but quite understandable during a real exam) things only get worse.

  • Information regarding SCJP ??

Hello guys i am unable to find information about scjp 310-055 exam. Like
what is the length(time) of exam,
what i am allowed to take along to the examination center,
once awnsered/skipped can i come back to the marked questions and redo my awnser
    what is pass percentage
and how many questions in total will be asked
can i carry pen and paper if need to do some coding calculations
and any tips before taking the exam please.

    b.m.kraju
once awnsered/skipped can i come back to the markedquestions and redo my awnser
can i carry pen and paper if need to do some codingcalculations
i think these still need to be awnseredno, both are explained at the appropriate time (meaning before you actually start the exam) ;)
    But here's the short:
    yes, you can go back.
no, you're not allowed to bring anything into the exam room. You will be provided with a pen or pencil and a supply of paper, which you will NOT be allowed to take out of the exam room.

  • Intangible gains of SCJP

    Hello Developers
I have been preparing for SCJP 1.4 examination for 3months. Now i can score more than *80%* in simulation examinations by Whizlabs and others. Next month i am going to take that examination and i belive on myself that i can score more than *90%* in real examination but What i have realized that clearing SCJP exam with a high percentage is less about declaring that you are technically sound but more about declaring that you are mentally sound. The ability to work hard in adverse conditions is the first advantage that i have received by working hard for SCJP, rather i should say working hard for me. High degree of Patience is the next ability what makes SCJP different from other Programmers. (When you start preparation for SCJP it happens in most of the cases that the you don't get good percentage of marks in practice exam. Every time it is not the case that you are not technically sound, but certainly if you look at the same questions with more concentration so will see a rise in your marks.) The ability to concentrate for a longer period is what we achieve for patience. Clearing SCJP with a good percentage of marks or rather i would say other similar exams requires a definitive strategy. By practising hard a person masters the art to make good strategy to crack the particular exam. And this art of analysis and making good strategy to go about solving a problem is the most important advantage what i have been learining by endeavouring to become a successful SCJP.
Thanks for paying attention to post! If you liked it reply to me your opinion.

Anil I see didn't even realise that SCJP indicates you're NOT mentally sound.
It properly stands for Sun Certifiable Java Programmer after all :)

  • Whats the difference between SCJP 6.0 exam and SCJP 6.0 upgrade exam ?

SCJP 6.0(CX-066) upgrade examination duration is only 150 minutes whereas SCJP 6.0 (CX-065) exam is 210 minutes. Does it mean SCJP 6.0 Upgrade exam should only be written by persons who have already cleared SCJP 6.0 ?? If not, which is the best to write between SCJP 6.0 and SCJP 6.0 upgrade exam. i havent written SCJP before. Please give suggestion.Thankq

  • SCJA & SCJP Questions

Hi all, I would like to clear out a few points/questions if possible.
    First -
I'm a C++ programmer but want to extend my knowledge in learning Java therefore im thinking of taking the Sun Certifications, which would start from SCJA. Now, would the SCJA study guide be appropriate to achieve this certification or would I need addional training software, like the bundle set "Java Entry Level Certification Solution (CDJ-JAVA-NOV)" provided by Sun itself.
    Second -
Considering the fact im rather new to Java and its technology, ive been reading about Java 6.. would it be ideal to wait a little and study the 'new' version before moving into the Java 5 certifications.. just to be with the 'latest' technology or is Java 6 just a small extension/upgrade upon Java 5 ?
    Third -
As my main aim is to reach the SCMAD Certification level, I would like to know what good books are available for the SCJP certification exams, as stated in the main question (SCJA and SCJP both rely in the Java SE technology) , the bundle set kinda covers the Java SE aspects and was wondering if its feasible enough to just purchase that training kit to study that course material or if there is any other relevant/suitable material instead that I should go with.
Many thanks and really appreciate your help.

on the contrary, it means you can memorize facts.no
understanding is impliedNot even close to true. The test is filled with
questions that present code and questions that ask if
the code will it break at compile time, runtime, or
run just fine, etc. What will the output be, etc.
Aside from memorizing data types, you must be able to
compile and run code in your brain. To me this
implies and understanding. And as most people are
reliant upon compilers and runtime errors to write
solid code, it's not easy. I think you should really
have a look at the exam and let's see how well you do.I'm not saying it's easy, and by "no understanding is implied" I mean understanding of writing software, not the mechanics of the language. my point is that SCJP et al are meaningless in terms of deciding someone's employability, since what they test is largely academic. as you say, people have compilers and tools to lean on for details such as syntax errors, so what use is testing that knowledge manually? a wide vocabulary is no indicator of a good author, a good story-teller, is it? show me the engine in your car, and I can tell you what most components are called, what they do and how they work. ask me to actually fix something in there, and I'm completely lost. the understanding of the mechanics is not enough
like it or not, knowing the syntax of the language, and the rules about what will and won't compile, etcetera, is just memorizing facts. being able to produce working complex software is a different skill, which these exams do not examine. nothing wrong with that in itself, but the danger comes because so many employers don't understand this, and see SCJP/whichever as proof that the person holding it is competent. it isn't, and I've met enough java cert'd people to know this

  • Change in SCJP

they changed the no. of questions in the SCJP exam from 72 to only 60
they also decreased the maximum time allowed from 210 mins to 180 only
is that essentially good for people taking the exam,or is it bad?
    thanks in advance

While I agree with jverd that this information is of very limited value, I will give you my insight.
The fact that they've changed the number of questions by 17% might mean that they have to make significant changes to the break-down of questions vs. concepts, to ensure that everything gets covered in a satisfactory manner. Fewer questions probably means that questions will be more involved, in order to still be thorough. So I would think that this would then make the exam more challenging, as the time limit has also been reduced.
On the other hand, it could be that examiners decided that those specific 17% of questions are no longer relevant, so it's not a good use of examination time to ask them. In that case, since the length of the exam decreased accordingly, the exam would be no more challenging, and there would be fewer irrelevant questions - a gain for everybody.
Or it could also be that they removed the most difficult 17% of the questions because they found that too many applications were having difficulty with them, and therefore deemed them overly difficult? Since Sun also has instruction programs, they probably want to ensure that a significant percentage of the instructed individuals perform well on the scjp. They may therefore deem the exam too difficult if students with official Sun instruction are unable to achieve high scores. You sometimes see things like this at high schools, colleges, and universities, too - the exam scores of students reflects the reputation of the institution, so exams are designed so that students will score well.
So your question can be answered, we have to know how the reduction in questions effects the calliber of the remaining questions. That is the most important criteria in how challenging the exam is.
Furthermore, it is not necessarily the case that a more challenging exam is BAD for people taking it. The intention of the certification is to indicate that the successful challenger has built up an appropriate amount of expertise on the language and platform. The more challenging exam, the more it says about the skills of the successful challenger. If the exam was TOO easy, and every college grad could obtain the certification, well then it would be basically expected, and would not distinguish the challenger from his/her colleagues.
I do not know if the changes make the exam easier or more difficult, or if they are intended to impact the difficulty of the exam. The explanation I think most likely is that the intention was to shorten the exam, thus costing less money for the exam centers, and to do that, they had to remove an equivalent amount of questions. This would not surprise me, or upset me, but I would say that if the exam has been made easier, then Sun is doing a disservice to all previous and future successful challengers.

  • Driver Utility Task Sequence Process/Examines all the driver Packages in the T/s, Although it actually should install only 2-3 Drivers for a particular Computer Model

    Hi,
Although the Driver Utility Task Sequence is working fine as expected, i have noticed that after initiating the Driver Utility from from the Software Center it takes quite a long time to start the installation of the drivers and few Apps which are in chain
I have pasted the log from a Computer which shows that it checks/Processes all the packages which are in the T/s and that is where it spends the time, although for this model it has to install just 3-4 drivers
Can we do something about this, to make the installation process just checks/Examines the drivers which are associated under its Specific Model Tree and saves time.  ( Fyi there are around 14 Different Models of Laptops/Desktops which are separated
by folder and a WQL Query to identify the Model.
could not paste the log file as its too long
    Thank you,

Is there a specific need that you need to update the already installed drivers or is this just something that someone
has always done and it will always be done? Give it a thought for a moment.
We dont upgrade the already installed Drivers, its just installed when a machine is newly imaged / reimaged
so whenever a new image is being engineered, simultaneously we create a new T/s with updated drivers and that goes to production along with the new image release
Thank you all for your replies, looks like the only option at this point is to workaround with splitting the T/s

  • Iphoto upgrade examines my photo library and says its damaged or unreadable and cannot be opened.

For some reason, iphoto automatically goes to an upgrade window upon launch. I believe I still have iPhoto 09 but since it won't launch i can't check that out. But it was created on 3/13/09 and last modified on 9/20/10...so I'm sure it's still the 09 (or is the 08?) version.
At any rate, when I launch iPhoto I automatically arrive at an upgrade window (which tells me that after upgrade my photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto - OK, fine, I hit the upgrade button). Right after I hit the upgrade button, I see that my photo library is being examined. Which results in a message telling me that my photo library is damaged or unreadable and must be restored.
OK, I go to Time Machine and restore the latest. After restore, I see all the files. But when I launch iphoto, hit the upgrade button, it again examines the library and finds it unreadable. I've done this several time now.
    Now what?
    Thanks, Jim

Well that's a Catch-22 isn't it. You can't open the Library but need to for the rebuild.
Coupled with the dodgy back-up I think your only option now is to create a new Library, recover the photos and start over.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How can I examine cookies in Safari 5.1.1?

Since the 5.x upgrade I've noticed that Safari handles cookies dramatically different than it did before. I used to be able to view all the cookies stored by each site and delete the ones I didn't want. I could keep my login items while deleting advertising, tracking, and other data-mining tools. Now I'm stuck with a non-resizable window that lists all the cookies for a particular site under one heading for that site. Its not expandable so I have no idea what cookies are stored in there. Strangely, while Apple limited my control over cookies they thoughtfully provided me with information on individual slices of cache stored on my machine, instead of just a blanket cache file, something I greatly appreciate.
Is there a way to examine the cookies stored so I can make sure that no _gads, _utm*, _ar_a4 or any other junk got by my filters?

I would like to be able to see a XML file as XML in Safari.
Being new to Safari & Mac - I am not sure if this capability is built in or there is some sort of add-in required.
I followed the previous link and it appeared that the tools were for reading RSS feeds - not just displaying XML as XML.
