SCM / APO shut down start up; (restore) activities, procedures, best practice

Dear ALL,
What are the generic steps that need to be followed from a Functional Consultant perspective?
I am not sure if this must be part of a Basis thread
Anyone can share & enlighten the forum on this
Some of the steps module wise are
FUNCTIONAL steps
1.    DP
1.1  Downloading of CVC's
1.2  Backup of all infocubes / remote query cube
1.3  Download of Planning book data
2.     SNP PPDS
2.1   Download Product Master, PPM, Resource data of '000'
2.2   Download 'all order data' from the product overview
TECHNICAL steps
0. Complete off line back up of the system
1. Lock users except admin
2. Stop CIF
3. Stop live cache
What are the restore steps
Anything missed out functionally / technically is welcome
Points would be awarded

Hi Sridhar,
During shut down & start up of APO system, functional part
involvement is mandatory and it is not an isolated work of
basis alone.
Moreover, in addition to the steps that you have mentioned,
the following are some of the steps that you can follow it up.
1) DP:-
Before shut down:-Copy of data to other simulation versions
from active versions if required. Locking users, Postponing or
rescheduling of jobs accordingly
After shutdown:- Time series consistency checks
Validation of data, Scheduling jobs, unlock users
2) SNP PPDS:-
Before shut down:- Jobs postponement or rescheduling,
Informing users to take the necessary deliveries from stos
from snp for execution
After shutdown:- Download of planning data and validation,
Scheduling of jobs, Order conversions,
3) Technical Steps:- (CIF / Livecache)
Before shutdown:- Rescheduling of integration model jobs
if any,
After shutdown:- Scheduling of integration model jobs,
releasing locked users, Livecache consistency checks,
Delta report, Monitoring and clearing inbound/outbound
queues etc.,

  • Computer from Sleep now starts up and shut downs, starts up shut down, ...

Computer had been running this morning and I was away for a couple of hours.  When I returned I found that my HP S5780t was shutting down then starting up again, then shutting down, starting up, ...  Power supply LED shows green, disconnected hard drive and DVD drive and same condition exists. BIOS screen does not show up.   All three fans working properly.  Monitor shows initial HP screen but machine shuts down before anything can happed.  Tried F10 but machine still shuts down.  Machine will continue in this mode until I press and hold the power button for several seconds.  Looks at some other messages regarding this issue but did not find anything that solves my problem.

I called tech support regarding repair options and they mentioned $299 to fix it no matter what the problem.  This does not sound like a bad deal.
I'll wait until my new computer arrives, move the information from the dead computer's hard drive to the new one and then send in the unit.
    Thank-you for your help.

  • Shut Down/Start Up - Slow...

Ok, today seems to be a day of sorting out issues with my Mac.
I am noticing that when I shut down or restart, it hangs a while, and then the spinning clock thing appears for a good 20 seconds, and then it kind of restarts. I am also experiencing blue screen hang when it starts up.
I know this isn't normal, I also know I have no clue as to why it is happening.
    Any ideas?

Blue screen during startup is the computer trying to load your login items. Check the login items on your system preferences and uncheck or delete any login items that you don't need. Repairing disk permissions might also help. Good luck.

  • Problems shutting down, starting up

My IMac has been giving me several problems lately. It sometimes will not go to sleep, and when it does, will not wake up. I have to re-start the computer to wake it up. It often shuts down with no warning or the grey film comes over and says the Mac must be re-started. This morning, I had trouble turning the computer on with the power switch, and when it did turn on, the apple stayed on the computer and the fan turns on loud. I have re-installed the system folder, re-set the PRAM and run Disk Warrier. Any suggestions? My computer is a little over 3 years old.

  • Shut down // start up problems

i am having power related problems on the intel mini and i want to know how widespread this is before i confront apple support. btw i love the mini--this is my 2nd mini. i have had a power on problem with a mini even on the day of purchase and it was exchanged graciously at the apple store in white plains this past july.<this was a power button failure issue>
here's whats happenning....1>it misbehaves on shut down or restart by software. there gets to a point where the screen is black but the white light on the box stays on and the vents in the back are still warm. my workaround is to manually shut down about a minute after the software shut down by holding down the power button on the back of the mini.
......2> start up problem. the mini wont always start when i push the power button. my workaround has been to turn off my surge protector for about 10 seconds then turn it back on and VIOLA the power button can start the mini. i guess it needs to be cold to work.
i have been reticent to go to the store because i rely on this machine too much and i am not the only user here.
can some reader disclose if such a hardware failure is known?
    thanks in advance.

thanks. i hadn't thought about the surge protector.
keyboard and mouse are bluetooth.monitor is digital 24". i have an external powered usb hub which runs my time machine external drive. i keep everything else unplugged from the usb hub during startup and shutdown because my ipod shuffle caused startup problems in the past.
i had similar troubles with my first mini when it was plugged directly into a wall socket. the surge protector seems to help--at least i can cold start the mini without unplugging it.
i have a genius bar apptmt this evening and i will see what gives. i am glad i made apple put in their own overpriced ram so i never voided the warranty. maybe i will buy a care plan to cover myself when i am there. but i so want to raise this mini from 2 to 4 gig now that mem is so cheap. if i can get this problem stabilized...
my very first mini was powerpc and the ipod shuffle, according to genius bar, caused its demise due to usb 1.1 and usb2.0 handshaking problems. i still have it somewhere and plan to install a harddrive to get it going.
    thanks again guys.
and i'd like to ask others again if this problem is more common.

  • HP Pavillion laptop shuts down even I restore the original or factory setting

Please help because I've been experiencing shutting down of my laptop without any reason. It turn-out into a blue screen with some error regarding incomptibility with the system. I restore its original settings but still after 5 minutes, its shuts down. It is less than 1 year old laptop and I use it twice a week during weekends.  Battery is not the problem and overheating is not also the reason because sometimes in less than 5 minutes after opening, its shuts down itself. Hope you could help me to fix it.

    Hello Cirssy,
Your computer is shutting down in its own.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
If it is still under a year old i give HP a call while everything is still under warranty.
Here is a link to a phone number to call HP.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • Weird ipad shut down/start up behavior

Shut down is normal (the speed at which it shuts down is different sometimes). When i start it up, though, it sometimes gives the same twirl that it gives at shutdown, and then it shuts off again. I then have to start it up again for it to turn on.

I actually have an idea as to why this is happening and I hope Apple will address this in their upcoming software update.
If you put your iPad to sleep via the sleep/power button and then wake it up to get to the lock screen, if you don't swipe to unlock right away, you'll notice that the screen will go to black in a very short period of time - literally a few seconds.
I believe what's happening is that, depending on what apps you've been running, when you go to power down the iPad (rather than just put it to sleep), if there is something in memory that the iPad is trying to clear out before shutting down, the screen will go to black (much as it does when it's on the lock screen) before the iPad has the chance to finish shutting down. When you then hit either the home button or sleep/power button, the iPad reawakens and finishes the shut down process.
This is observable behavior in all iPads and is definitely a software issue. A lot of people don't see it happen because many never power down their iPads. Plus, when it happens, this behavior happens sporadically and is almost impossible to duplicate on demand, hence the uselessness of taking to the Genius Bar. However, since it's a software issue, there really isn't anything they could do about it anyway.
The only fix is to see it addressed in the upcoming update in November. Keep your fingers crossed.

  • Scheduling shut down & start up

I have a Mac Mini G4 that will no longer shut down or start up as scheduled. Any ideas about why this feature would stop working? Thanks!

    chizzle03-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Generally an external device will cause sleeping problems. Have you added an eyeTV or any device like that?
The first step would be to disconnect all peripherals except the keyboard and monitor and see if the problem goes away. If so, add devices back one at a time until you find the offending unit.
    Luck-

  • Shut Down/Start Up/ Login Slow

    Hi Folks,
Over the weekend I installed Leopard. My performance seems to be taking a hit.
It takes over a minute to shutdown, over a minute to start up, and almost a minute to login in.
What gives? My "Guest" account takes 10 seconds to shut down and is much faster starting up and logging in.
I've been through the wringer with Tech Support to no avail.
    HELP!
    Thanks.

i had slow logins as well on my macbook. first i disabled all "start at login" items in the accounts preference menu. logged out and back in and it was really fast. so then i started enabling the items i had before one at a time. logging out and back in until i found out if one or more items were causing the slow login times.
for my machine it ended up being "Growl" that was causing the slow login. so i just left that unchecked from within the Growl preference pane. now everything is great. the odd thing is that Growl is still loading at login because it works without me having to start it manually. but i don't have it checked in the preference pane or in the list of start up items in accounts.
    hope this helps! happy thanksgiving.

  • Scheduled shut down, start ups Not Working

    Hi,
I am a technician in charge of 9 iMacs (Core 2 Duo's) and 13 eMacs (not sure what kind), in a media suite in a college, that are all running 10.4.11. I have tried to set them all up so that they start up at 9am each weekday and shut down at 6pm, but only a few of them will do this.
So instead of sitting at my desk and hearing 22 simultaneous Bonggggsssss each morning, I hear about 6, and then the rest are just sleeping after the evening before. They are all set to receive their time from Apple (Europe). (They are also connected to a college network that allows for network accounts, and I can access each one using Apple Remote Desktop, the latest version). At the time of the proposed shut down, they are all at the login screen, with no running apps, or at least none that i'm aware of.
How can I fix this? I can't find anyone with the same problem.

    Thanks Hans,
It is not an issue with sleeping the machines, but actual start ups and shut downs.
I will try setting the preferences so that the machines never sleep, to see if there is a conflict between the sleep times and the shut down. I would rather that the machines were actually turned off overnight rather than sleeping.
The article suggests a lot of things that contribute to the machines not sleeping, and the one that jumped out at me was if the machines are connected to a network - which they all are - but that wouldn't explain why some of them shut down as expected, and some of them don't.
Unfortunately, we have students using the machines all day so there isn't a chance to check the procedures!

  • Coninues to start , shut down , start

every time i turn on the computer i get the wheel for a few minutes---then it shuts down and starts the cycle again----i tried taking battery out and holding down start button but no change--any other ideas

Insert the install DVD and hold down 'c' at next start up, when it boots from the disc select Disc Utilities from the top menu bar and then Repair Permissions on the drive, if this doesn't help then I'd suggest an Archive (re) Install of the OS from the same DVD

  • Ipod touch shuts down just before restoring

I have an ipod touch that wouldn't synchronize anymore. I tried restoring it but each time it's preparing to do so, the ipod shuts down
and loses the connection with itunes. Then, a message appears saying, unknown error code 9. I've tried a lot of things and nothing seems to work.
I've even deleted temporarely my anti-virus but its still doing the same thing. I also have an iphone and it syncs propely. Any suggestions??

    That's a shame...
This may or may not help... But have you tried a Restart and a Reset of the iPod...

  • L540 shuts down/starts up OK but WILL NOT RESTART

I have a new L540 that arrived inoperatve - power button did not work. Sent it back to depot, and after 2 weeks received it back with a new system board and 3 other parts replaced. After loading Windows 7 without any problems, the first time I went to reboot I found that it hangs after shutting down - in other words, it appears to be shut down, but backlight is still on and there it sits, until I hold power button for 4 seconds. I can hear (very faintly) 5 short beeps as soon as it is down. If I try it in safe mode, the 5 beeps are at full volume.
If I choose "shutdown," it shuts down fine, and comes back up fine after hitting the power button. No difference whether it is on battery, AC, or AC with no battery installed.
I have done all updates including the BIOS, no difference. I have pulled the CMOS battery to reset BIOS settings to defaults. Clues anyone? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just to rule out any OS or driver issue, I'd suggest you try to enable boot logging in the F8 menu (where you can also enable Safe Mode). Which will cause Windows to log both the startup and the shutdown or restart process to C:\BOOTLOG.TXT.
Then try to restart the system. When it hangs, power it down and power it up again, but this time do NOT enable boot logging (it would overwrite the file you just created). Then have a look at the last few lines of BOOTLOG.TXT - if there is no obvious sign about some driver that is about to be unloaded at that time or you are unsure, you can post the last couple of lines here.
