SCN in blocks and datafile headers

When CKPT updates datafiles headers with the new SCN is it also updates the datafiles blocks with the new SCN ?
Thank you,
Micheal.

The SCN are not stored the datafile blocks in fact it stores the SCNs in terms of bitmaps..Cheers!An absolutely wrong statement! How you think that the transaction within a block would come to know that its committed or not if there is no SCN stored in the block?
See below the dump of a block and also the SCN info recorded in it,

  • Data Concurrency and Consistency ( SCN , DATA block)

Hi guys, i am getting very very very confused about how oracle implement consistency / multiversioning with regards to SCN in a data block and transaction list in the data block..
I will list out what i know so you guys can gauge me on where i am..
When a SELECT statement is issued, SCN for the select query is determined. Then Blocks with higher SCN are rebuilt from the RBS.
Q1) The SCN in the block implied here - is it different from the SCNs in the transaction list of the block ? where is this SCN store ? where is the transaction list store ? how is the SCN of the block related with the SCNs in the transaction list of the block ?
Q2) can someone tell me what happen to the BLOCK SCN and the transaction list
of the BLOCK when a transaction start to update to a row in the block occurs.
Q3) If the BLOCK SCN reflects the latest change made to the block and If the SCN of the block is higher then the SCN of the SELECT query, it means that the block has change since the start of the SELECT query, but it DOESNT mean that the row (data) that the SELECT query requires has changed.
Therefore why cant ORACLE just check to see whether the row has changed and if it has, rebuilt a block from the RBS ?
Q4) when ORACLE compares the BLOCK SCN, does it only SCAN for the BLOCK SCN or does it also SEARCH through the TRANSACTION LIST ? or it does both ? and why ?
Q5) is transaction SCN same as Transaction ID ? which is store in the RBS , the transaction SCN or ID ?
Q6) in short i am confuse with the relationship between BLOCK SCN, transaction list SCN, their location, their usage and relationship of the BLOCK SCN and transaction list when doing a SELECT, their link with RBS..
any gurus clear to give me a clearer view of what is actually happening ?

    Hi Aman
Hmm agreed. So when commit is issued , what happens at that time?Simply put:
    - The SCN for the transaction is determined.
    - The transaction is marked as committed in the undo header (the commit SCN is also stored in the undo header).
    - If fast cleanout takes place, the commit SCN is also stored in the ITL. If not, the ITL (i.e. the modified data blocks) are not modified.
So at commit, Oracle will replace the begin scn in the ITL with this scn
and this will tell that the block is finally committed is it?The ITL does not contain the begin SCN. The undo header (specifically the transaction table) contains it.
I lost here.In the ITL , the scn is transaction SCN or commit scn?As I just wrote, the ITL contains (if the cleanout occured) the commit SCN.
This sounds like high RBA information? What is RBA?
Commit SCNThis is the SCN associated with a committed transaction.
Begin SCNThis is the SCN at which a transaction started.
Transaction SCNAs I wrote, IMO, this is the same as the commit SCN.
Also please explain that what exactly the ITL stores? If you print an ITL slot, you see the following information:
    BBED> print ktbbhitl[0]
    struct ktbbhitl[0], 24 bytes     @44
          struct ktbitxid, 8 bytes    @44
             ub2 kxidusn              @44       0x0009
             ub2 kxidslt              @46       0x002e
             ub4 kxidsqn              @48       0x0000fe77
          struct ktbituba, 8 bytes    @52
             ub4 kubadba              @52       0x00800249
             ub2 kubaseq              @56       0x3ed6
             ub1 kubarec              @58       0x4e
          ub2 ktbitflg                @60       0x2045 (KTBFUPB)
          union _ktbitun, 2 bytes     @62
             b2 _ktbitfsc             @62       0
             ub2 _ktbitwrp            @62       0x0000
ub4 ktbitbas                @64       0x06f4c2a3- ktbitxid --> XID, the transaction holding the ITL slot
    - ktbituba --> UBA, used to locate the undo information
    - ktbitflg --> flags (active, committed, cleaned out, ...)
    - _ktbitfsc --> free space generated by this transaction in this block
    - _ktbitwrp+ktbitbas --> commit SCN

  • Scn in redologs and controlfile

    Hi
The checkpoint scn in datafile headers are updated after checkpoint.
    How about redologs and controlfile?
As far I read from the docs
scn's are written to redo logs continuously, it should also stored in controlfile continuesly(every commit) so that controlfile will know where redochain ends ..
    Is that right?

    Hi,
The checkpoint scn in datafile headers are updated after checkpoint.
    Yes. By CKPT process.
scn's are written to redo logs continuously
Yes, by LGWR every COMMIT IMMEDIATE.
+ it should also stored in controlfile continuesly(every commit) so that controlfile will know where redochain ends ..+
Even if it is in controlfile then it is NOT updated every commit.

    Yes Aman, I read it.
    As I said,
I learned that scn is incremented in controlfile and datafile after checkpoint.
However still have doubts about redologs..No, that's what my doubt is. If you have read the thread thoroughly, it explains that in the redo logs, there is open/close SCN. And I have shown its behavior too there. SCN is nothing but a time stamp(see Hans's reply also for the explanation, in the thread too , I have posted one) and as redologs contain nothing but transactions, each one would be having its starting and ending SCN(the article posted by Hans goes into great length to show it) . The files would have the high and low scn. I would suggest that you reread the thread one more time and come back with a more detailed question. I am not still sure that what is your doubt regarging the scn in the redologs. Control file's mechanism or data files's mechanism are different as the writes happen at certain events while redo logs are constantly being fliushed with the minimum frequency of 3seconds. So things are not really alike and its not good to compare bit by bit all the aspects in every file IMHO.

  • Overall block and Credit Customer Block on VA21

    Hello
I have a requirement to display 2 standard SAP order level hard errors;  Overall block error message (Customer XXXXXXXX has been assigned order block: Overall block) and Credit blocked (Order receipt/delivery not possible, credit customer blocked) to be displayed in VA21, just like it is displayed in VA01.
Can this be achieved with out core code change?
Note: Searched in the SCN posts, but couldnt find a solution here.
    Thanks
    Shafeek

    Hi Shafeek,
Credit Limit standard functionality it self will fulfill your requirement.
In Sales Document Type (VOV8) Update Check Credit Limit and Credit Group field and it will work.
About Customer Master Overall Block, Please check that Blocking Reason has been assigned to your Document Type or not as per below screenshot.

I've just wrote a simple helloworld in C, added getchar() to wait, compiled it with "-g" flag and tried to attach to it with this IDE. Tried on 2 machines, different binaries: same result - IDE crashes. Am I doing something wrong, or this is a problem with WxWidgets/Code::Blocks?
My packages are: wxgtk 2.8.12.1-3, codeblocks 10.05-2 and gdb 7.4-1.

Are you running on an x86_64 architecture?  If so I have a pacman Code::Blocks package which is the current SVN I could upload somewhere for you..
If not, check: Here to download and make the latest SVN version.  There is a patch you have to apply on that page and also you need to make the build using the makepkg "-fpermissive" option.
Why do you want this SVN version (version 7932)?  Well, it's current as of April 14 this month.  The C::B 10.05 version is 2010, 5th month.  So way out of date.  There have been no official builds since then so you want to be using SVN until there is.
I don't know if using the SVN version would fix your issue but even if not: it has a host of other enhancements and fixes.

  • Keeping row and column headers while scrolling inside a Web Dynpro table

    Hi,
I have to display a 2x2 matrix with storage location names on the x-axis (i.e. as Column Headers) and material names on the y-axis (i.e. row headers). The table data represents the quantities of a particular material in a particular storage location.
I am using dynamic UI generation to create this table. It can contain as many as 150 columns and almost as many rows. I dont want a page level scrollbar, and hence, have placed my table inside a scroll container UI element with a fixed height and width.
I need a way to let the users use the scrollbars inside the scroll container, but still let them see the row  and column headers. Is there a way that I can do this in Dynpro for Java?
    Thanks,
    Navneet Nair.

    Hi Kenn,
You are probably better off posting this request in this forum User Interface Development in ABAP as you are more likely to get a response.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

hi i have a ipod touch 4 generation 64gb and my camera is blocked and dose not work i cant update the ipod either

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Printing Blocks and Bands of Color

Two PC's (2000 & XP), an Officejet 7310 and a TV are connected to a wired ethernet router. Both PC's have been configured to use this printer as their default. It's the only printer connected right now.
This printer had no software disk when I found it. I got the latest drivers from the HP website in the form of "exe" files. The full featured driver failed to install properly on both PCs. I uninstalled that and installed the basic driver on the XP machine first, then on the 2000 PC. On the XP PC the installer failed to create a printer, and as I remember, never asked me any information about drivers or ports to use. I had to use the Add Printer Wizard to create a printer for it on the XP PC. The installer failed to create a printer on the 2000 PC also. The Add Printer Wizard could not find the printer until I marked the printer "shared" on the XP PC. Is that normal?
NOTE: When I tried to install the "full featured" driver software on the 2000 PC there was a warning that my hardware was below the minimum "recommended" level, but according to the HP website, I am well above the "recommended" level. (It is Compaq Deskpro, PentiumIII, 375MB RAM, 2GB free space) No such warning appeared when I installed the "Basic" driver software.
When I attempt to check ink levels with the HP Toolbox on both PC's I get the following error:
"The computer is unable to establish two-way communication with the device."
I uninstalled the printer on the Win2000 PC so that I could record my steps exactly, and I also marked it "Do not share" on the XP PC because this should work (on the 2000 PC) with the XP PC shut down.
Please verify I did this properly: Here's how I recreated the printer in Windows 2000:
Started "Add Printer Wizard" => Next => select "Network Printer" + Next => Next (to browse for a printer) => (none were found) Back => select "Connect to a printer on the Internet or on your Intranet" + enter URL "192.168.0.101" + Next => "Error: could not connect to the printer" + OK => Back => select "Local Printer" + Next => select "Create new port" + "Type: Local port" + Next => Enter port name: "Local TCP" + OK => Manufacturers: "HP" + Printers: "HP Officejet" + Next => (keep existing driver) Next => Printer name: "HP Officejet 7310 on Local TCPIP" + select "Yes" (default) + Next => (do not share) Next => (Yes - print test page) Next => Finish.
    No test page is printed.
Then I opened the Properties for the new printer => select "Ports" tab => Add Port... => select "Standard TCP/IP Port" + New Port... => the "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard" opens => Next => enter IP address "192.168.0.101" + Port name: "Local TCPIP" + Next => (some info, eg. "Protocol: RAW, Port 9100", Adapter type: "Hewlett Packard Jet Direct" {somehow it knew this time}) Finish => Close (Printer Ports dialog) => (new port appears with box checked) Apply => (printer name appears beside new port) => select "General" tab => (features: Color: "No") select "Advanced" tab => Printing Defaults... (it's a very simplistic driver) => Advanced... => (no options to control color) Cancel => Cancel => (Driver: "HP Officejet") select "HP Officejet 7300 series" in driver drop-down list + Apply => Select "General" tab => (Features: Color: "Yes") Print Test Page => (the windows logo is printed in color, but the text below says "Color support: No") select "Advanced" tab => Printing Defaults... => (sophisticated driver appears) select "Color" tab => remove check from "Print in grayscale" + OK => select "General" tab => Print Test Page => (test page looks good, says I now have color support) OK.
But still I get color blocks and bands on some pages when printing from Word, and I think on all AutoCAD plots when plotting through the system printer (which will have to be setup again in the Plotter Manager).
I also still get the same error trying to check ink levels.
What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't the installer have created the printer with all parameters properly set?

HPPSdr.exe says "Everything checks out okay with your product."  The test page prints OK.
I also found the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility 4.1, and it says "We're sorry, but the HP Officejet 7300 series is not currently supported by this utility."
The problem seems to be getting more prevalent and more extreme, sometimes printing solid black, off the edge of the page too, with some blocks of color mixed in.  This is occuring from two computers (Compaq and Dell) with different operating systems (2000 and XP) and different versions of Microsoft Word (2000 and 2003).
    What next?

  • Pictures I have taken in the past with my iPhone 5 are now a block and when I click the photo it says loading but never loads. It's like I never took the photos. There's only the blocks with no pictures. I can't click edit or anything

I'm trying to look at my past photos in my camera roll but all that's there is a block and when I try to click on it the photo says "Loading" but nothing ever shows up. I can't click edit or anything. When I plug my phone in to my computer and open the photo folder they're not even there. It's like I never took these photos

I notice that the home page redirects to a secure (HTTPS) address. I wonder whether there is a setting blocking this? What if you go directly to a secure page -- will it load?

I was in a conversation with a colleague and a text (identical) came to both of our phones, when he researched it, it said it was blocked and I thought I might see where it came from through my phone. Is it possible to get a spam like that to our phones at the same time.If the text came to my number marked from him, it could only have been from him?. Is there a possibility that someone else sent it to both of us at the same time?

Yes, it could be spam. I get spam text from time to time. Yes, you both could have gotten the same spam at the same time. Spammers re sending out thousands and thousands of messages.
