Can you give a few more details on what you have tried, and what didn't work for you? Were you stepping through the wizard to monitor a Linux/UNIX service and something went wrong? Or did you successfully create the service monitor in the wizard, but it
didn't trigger if the monitored process terminated?

That being said, the error you reference is somewhat abstracted from the values you adjusted. the error you posted is the system comparison operator complaining that it only has one thing to compare, typically you need two things to do a comparison.
Here is a person running into a similar problem with the lync MP, where it was trying to compare the site assignment of two systems, but the environment only has one system.

Unix/Linux Process Monitoring

When I attempt to run the add monitoring wizard in Operations Manager 2012 R2 against the unix/linux process monitor I receive the following error :-

I receive this in my test lab and in a live environment. Both environments are running Operations Manager 2012 R2 and I have imported the latest management packs which are 7.5.1042.0.
I am full administrator at the server and operations manager level. So what is it I am missing?

Agree with Steve, Upgrade to last UR, This issue is related to Management Pack so that Check correct version of Management Pack which is compatible with SCOM 2012R2

SCOM 2012 Unix/linux agents authentication method

Hi everybody
We have an environment including SCOM 2012 SP1, 10 windows server, 40 linux servers and 10 HP-UX servers. all of them are joined a trusted domain. I know the authentication method between windows agents and management server is kerberos. but about linux
and HP-UX servers? I have read :

Now I want to secure the Unix/Linux agents authentication and communication to RMS. some questions:
1- how much secure and credible is current authentication method? and in a high secure environment can I trust SCOM self signed Certificates?
2- Considering this point that Unix/linux computers are joined to active directory domain and are using Kerberos to authenticate, can I use this authentication method between RMS and linux Agents?
3- if I make a decision to use certificates should I use gateway server? (considering all servers and RMS are in same trusted domain)
any other suggestion?

Linux Intelligent Agent - OEM cannot discover node

Hi,
I have a Linux AS 2.1 Server with a Oracle 9.2.0.1 Database running. I have 2 Oracle Management Servers ... one is running on this running on the Linux AS 2.1 Server and another on Solaris 9i.
When start the OEM on the Linux Server and try to discover the Databases on the Linux Server themselves then everything goes fine. When I am trying to discover the databases on the Linux Server from the OEM running in Solaris it does not work.
The Solaris box has connection to the Linux Server and the repository for the Solaris OEM runs on the Linux Machine.
When I go back to the OEM on the Linux Machine then I can discover the Solaris box.
To come to a boddom line here: Whatever I do I am not able to discover the databases on the Linux AS Server besides from the OEM directly running on this box.
Is that a bug in the Linux Intelligent Agent ? If yes is there a Patch to fix that ? Or is there a work around.

Ok I figured it out .... the problem is/was the entry of the Loopback Interface entry in the etc hosts:
127.0.0.1 dbserver localhost.localdomain localhost
The Intelligent Agent listens to the Loopback Interface now. All incoming requests from and OMS will of course get a timeout because the IP address of the server is 10.1.0.10 .
You have 2 options now:
1. Change the entry in the /etc/hosts below to localhost and add an entry to the /etc/hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost
10.10.0.1 dbserver
Restart the Intelligent Agent and any OMS in your network should be able to discover the note.
2. In the snmp_rw.ora file you can bind the Intelligent Agent with the following entries to an specific hostname and/or port:
DBSNMP.HOSTNAME = <hostname or ip address>
DBSNMP.CS_BASE_PORT = <port number>
If you start up Agent now you will see in the nmiconf.log file error messages like that:
Warning: No Listener found for SID db01. db01 will be skipped
Warning : No Listener found for SID db02. db02 will be skipped
Warning : No Listener found for SID db03. db03 will be skipped
Warning : No Listener found for SID omsrep. omsrep will be skipped
This is because the Agent looks up in the tnsnames.ora file or whatever you name resolution is and finds the connect descriptors still withe the old name. So all entries in the tnsnames.ora file have to be changed.

We have upgraded our System Center to 2012 R2, and we cannot open any of the UNIX/Linux LogFile monitor property or the UNIX/Linux process monitor property for those monitors created prior to the upgrade. Error we get is below. Any assitance

It's possible the upgrade did not update everything properly as it looks like a dll mismatch or a missing file. I'd open a support ticket with MS and have a support engineer look at the upgrade logs. What version of SCOM did you upgrade from?

No, the SCOM online UNIX/Linux MP stuff is only for OM 2007 R2.  All the latest UNIX/Linux MP(B)s for SCOM 2012 and above come from the link below. There are multiple download msi's so make sure you grab the one for your version of SCOM 2012.

The current release is UR5 but UR6 will be coming out very soon, within the next week or two at the latest.
Note that you can generally install the latest MP(B)s on lower UR versions of SCOM. We try to keep them independent but every once and awhile there are bits that require you to be at a specific UR on SCOM as well. We update the release notes with the details
as needed.

I want to monitor some Linux (RH6) servers with Operations manager 2012 R2. I successfully imported necessary management packs… and then I’m lost. I cannot discover Linux clients
from console. And I can’t find good guidance how to deploy and manage Linux clients. Can anyone direct me to any step-by-step guidance?
And, do I need certificates on SCOM and on Linux clients?

Service Monitor Not Alerting

I have a service monitor setup to monitor up down of a service. The service yesterday starting to terminate and restart it self but the monitor is not catching that it is going down. The monitor works fine we we take it down manually. I think the restart
is happening too quickly. Has anyone seen something like this and is there a fix for it?

Hi,
The default frequency of the basic service monitor is 60 Seconds if I have it in mind correctly so you may not got an alert for every service restart.
If you want to get an alert for every service restart you may have to use an Event Monitor to check the Service Start/Stop Events.

Service Monitor discarding data

Hi all,
My Service Monitor (2.2) is associated with my Communications Manager (6.1). When I click on the "success" button, it says that data is discarded. I am sending a screenshot of this page.
In the server, cdr and cmr data appears in CSCOpx\qovr\preserve folder but is moved to CSCOpx\qovr\saved folder in few seconds. So data arrives at Service Monitor but cannot be reported.
What can I do to solve this problem?

Note:
I tried the steps below, but it did not work:
1. Remove the Service Monitor application billing server; (doing so removes the associated list of
backlogged files).
2. Restart the CDRM service.
3. Add Service Monitor to Unified Communications Manager as an application billing server.
4. Restart the CDRM service.

It discards what it believes is too old.
This may happen if the CCM has not been able to send data for some time. You can indeed restart the service that stocks the CDR's.
But make sure both machines are in the same timezone and puting both on the same NTP server is also a good plan.

Understanding a service monitor "Service Details"?

I am just trying to understand an alert coming from the ConfigMgr/SCCM 2012 management pack but I guess my question is a bit broader than that in that it will help me understand over service alerts
For most service monitoring I just look at the basic service monitor itself and the “service details”. For instance the monitoring the WMI service just shows as “WinMgmt” as I would expect.
However I have an alert for a “ConfigMgr Site Role Issue”. When I use health explorer this then shows as “Site SQL Backup Service Monitor”. When I look at the “service details” for this it shows as –

I just wonder if someone can explain this line and what its actually looking at? Is there somewhere I can view this better as to what it is monitoring?

BackupServiceName$ should be one property defined under the sqlserver class which is defined in Microsoft.SystemCenter2012.ConfigurationManager MP.
You may need to open the XML which defined the class, and then ctrl+f to search the key word “BackupServiceName$”

I want to somebody help me who to deploy these solution in 2 servers? I prefer to install COUM with Service Monitor in the same server and CUSSM in the other server, what do you thing?
I have other question, to upgrade COUM 2.2 to CUOM 2.3 I must to pass by cisco to purchase the new license, or I can to use the same license COUM 2.2 for COUM 2.3

Hi,
It is ok to install CUOM and CUSM on the same server. See the guidelines here for the minimum hardware requirements:

In regards to licensing, if you have a license for CUOM 2.2, then the same license file is valid for license 2.3, so you won't need to purchase a new one.
If you decide to install CUOM and CUSM on a different server though you will need to have the license migrated to that server. The license is tied to the mac address of your server.

Adding Service Monitor to CUOM

We have Cisco Unified Operations Manager 2.1.0 installed with Cisco Unified Service Monitor 2.1.0 installed on the same server.
I show this licensing info:
OM Premium 2.0 5009 Purchased
SM 2.0 5000 Purchased
Within Service Monitor I added CUOM Server as trap receiver, but when I go to CUOM Administration - Service Quality Settings all I see is the Events Settings option. I don't see a link to add the Service Monitor to the CUOM.
I inherited this installation, could an option have been missed during initial installation of CUOM?

Operations Manager installs Service Monitor as well. Since you have Operations Manager 2.0.1, the Service Monitor 2.0.1 should be already present on the box. You will need to install the license for Service Monitor to use the Service Monitor functionality.

SCOM 2012 Linux Monitoring - RPCBIND, RPCIDMAP, RPCSTAT services not running

We are running SCOM 2012 SP1 and added a test Linux server running Red Hat Enterprise 6.3. SCOM is reporting that the server is in Critical health because the following three services are not running.
1) Process Rpcbind Service Health - Rpcbind Mapper Not Running
2) Process Rpcidmap Service Health - NFSv4 ID Name Mapper Not Running
3) Process Rpcstat Service Health - NSM Status Monitor Not Running
My question is that are these services required to be running in order for SCOM to monitor the Linux servers properly? If yes, can you please give brief explaination as to why so I can explain that to our Linux Administrator. The Linux Administrator
is saying that we do not run these services on any of the Linux servers because they are not needed. If infact these services are not needed, how can I have SCOM ignore the critical error messages? Thanks

Yup, generally running. I'm assuming you've done a basic install of RHEL 6. All processes listed above are enabled by default on a RHEL 6 install if you take the default settings. If someone is just getting started you can pretty much guarantee
they will do a basic install of RHEL 6 and this will not be an issue.
Could it be done better... sure but at what point do you stop? We could discover all services running on the system and start monitoring them out of the box but what are important and what are not to each customer? The idea is to give you some basic monitoring
on a default install based on what each OS provider starts on a "default" install. If this does not suite your needs SCOM is very configurable and adding a custom service monitor is very easy to configure along with disabling existing ones.
If you'd like to provide feedback on this feel free to open a support ticket with Microsoft and file what we call a 'Design Change Request' [DCR]. We go though these prior to starting each update to SCOM. No guarantee it will get fixed/changed as we do have
priorities but we are listening.
