SCOM 2012 DataWarehouse Crash effect to SCOM 2012 Manager Server

If the SCOM 2012 Database Warehouse crash, what is effect to scom 2012 manager server?
thanks

Reporting will not work, data will not synchronize from the operational database, data will not be inserted into the data warehouse (it will be dropped on the management servers), you'll see a bunch of errors and alerts regarding reporting and writing/synchronizing
data to the database, dashboards will not work, just to name a few.
Operationally, SCOM will continue to function, generate alerts, and provide SDK (console) access without the data warehouse.

Thank you very much!By the way
Do you mean it does not affect the normal monitoring  function of the management server?
another question:
At last ,The lost data will be synchronized to the data warehouse  from management database?

    Jeremiah,
We ran into this as well. One of two options:
1.) Just run a repair on the SQL Server installation
2.) Repair the WMI settings on the SQL Server as descibed here:

  • What effect would re-installing the management server (with DBs intact) have on my configuration?

    Hi,
If I have to re-install SCOM (the management server components) on the same Windows Server (i.e. uninstall/re-install) and re-connect to the same SQL Server and DBs, would I lose anything?
My understanding is that nothing is lost in terms of management packs, overrides, views, etc, as everything is stored in the DBs. However, I am not sure about things such as the configuration to connect to Azure Ops Insights.
    Does anyone know for sure?

    Hi
Uninstalling a Management Server and reinstalling ist no big deal and you should not experince any issue, but there are few things. I would assign the agents before uninstalling to the persistent Management Server, make sure all Management packs are redundant,
Keep track of the ressource pool Membership, scripts running on the Management Server etc. before removing the server

  • Problem upgrading from SCOM 2012 SP1 to R2 (near impossible to uninstall SCOM agent from Management Server)

I'm trying to upgrade our SCOM 2012 SP1 environment to R2, but I have a heck of a problem getting there.
We currently have an test installation with SCOM 2012 SP1 with Management Server and Console on a single 2012 Standard server. The database are located on a remote server. The R2 setup stopped mid way through the setup, because the SCOM 2012 SP1 agent is
installed. And I could NOT remove it my any normal means. I've tried "misexec.exe /x productcode", the setup, powershell uninstall and so on. Nothing works, because the management server installation is blocking the uninstall. The uninstall says
I have to remove the management installation first. And that's not gonna happen.
I had to follow this guide to finally getting through the setup: http://www.opsman.co.za/forcibly-removing-a-scom-agent-that-cannot-be-uninstalled-by-normal-means/
In addition to searching for the agent msi install key in registry, and deleting everything. After I did this, the setup is working, and the SCOM management server, console and DB are up to date. However, the Microsoft Monitoring Agent are STILL there in
Control Panel. And this can NOT be the most healthy way of getting through the setup.
I'm about to upgrade to R2 in our production environment with 3 management servers, and I would hate to go through this sketchy process there as well. Just for the record, I have no idea why the agents are installed on our management servers.
Any of you have tips as to how I can get rid of the agents more gracefully?

    Hi
    Thanks for the replay guys!
None of those links touch my problem I'm afraid. I have followed the Upgrade guides you pointed to, step by step. But the setup does not Complete. There's problems during the actual software Upgrade of the management servers (3'rd step in the Upgrade page).
I've dived into the Application logs and installation logs, and as far as I can tell, it stops because it has trouble upgrading while the server has the 2012 SP1 Agent installed. I do not remember the actual error text right now, but I can get it in a few
    days.
Anyhow, the setup DID move on once I removed most of the registry information of the agent installation. So. that leaves me to the conclusion that the agent IS in fact stopping the setup. Either the agent are malfunctioning, or the setup do not expect the
agent to be present on the management servers. I suspect the latter to be the the most plausible. At least until Yan Li told me this was normal.
So, I'm not sure what to think. I'm pretty much forced to remove this agents, as this is the only thing allowing me to continue the setup. At least untill I'm told otherwise. But I hate to do it this way. It's so dirty. The registry is pretty much cleaned,
but there's still Application files present, and the agent is still in the Control panel and can be started. It's not something I would like to do in our prodution environment.

  • SCOM 2012 - Additional Management Server - Database not Found (no errors)

    Hello,
I am installing a second management server (SCOM 2012) and am running into an issue connecting to the existing database.
I selected Add a Management server to an existing management group.
On the installer page Configuration/Configure the Operational Database, I enter the sql server name (fqdn) just as I did on the first management server (i took screenshots of the entire install so I could verify what I am
doing). Then the installer takes over for a second to verify the server information.  There are no errors but the Database Name is blank, no choices in the drop down, nothing auto-populated.
If I put an incorrect server name in there is an error (as is expected).  The port I am connecting on is the same one as the first management server: 1433.
The servers are both running Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit).  They were both created from the same template at the same time.
I used the ODBC Data Source Administrator to test a connection to the SQL server from the Additional Management Server and the test completed successfully.
I checked in the Operations Console to see if there was an entry in the Management Servers list for this second server and there is only the First management server listed there.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions as to how I can see the database names when the server conneciton is not failing.  Thanks in advance.
    Zach

    Hi,
Are the accounts permissions correct? Are you using the same account you used installing the first management server and is it a local admin on the 2nd management server?
If all the above can be answered with yes please check if the 2nd management server is already known inside OpsMgr. If it is delete it from here and try again.
You can also check the OpsMgrSetup.log for more detailed information.
Your problem might be a known one:

  • Gateway server and Management server in SCOM 2012

What are the main Different between Gateway server and Management server in SCOM 2012?
I have referred this , is there anything ?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2008/02/19/10-reasons-to-use-a-gateway-server.aspx

    1) Management server can write data , gathered from agent, directly into operations manager database. Gateway server should forward data, collected from managed agent to management server.
    2) In a unturst environment for example workgroup or untrust domain, and you do not want to deploy a certificate to every monitored agent, you should deploy gateway server rather than managment server.

  • Limitations of SCOM 2012 Singel server environment

    Hi All,
We are monitoring Hyper-v(25) and Lync server in SCOM 2012, Lync servers(12) are deployed in different domain and monitoring via GW.  Rest of the components like Management server, DB, DW and SSRS are hosted in a single server.
Currently we are monitoring around 38 agents in our environment, I just want to know what is the limitation of agent count?
As per MS recommedation, we can monitor maximum 3000 agents per Management server. But for the below configuration , how many agents we can monitor?
    Server Hardware Configuration is below..
    Intel Xenon(R) CPU
24 GB RAM & 20 GB Paging file
Note - Currently Server is consuming 80% of physical memory.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

As you have MS, OpsDB, OpsDWH, SSRS - all in one Server, your memory consumption is higher, for monitoring 38 agents you can go with
0-500 agents configuration which can obtained by sizing helper tool for SCOM

  • Where is unix/linux agent located on scom 2012 r2 server

    hey there,
my boss tried to install scom unix agent manually, and asked me where the unix agent located on scom 2012 r2 server.
Is it "GetOSVersion.sh" the one he looks for? If it is not, then wherw it is located
I'm a Windows guy and have no idea what that .sh file is. Please help~~

The "GetOSVersion.sh" is a script that is first executed when you try to push an agent out to
a unix/linux server. It then tells SCOM what version of the agent it needs to download and install.
    As for the location:
Management Server: \System Center Operations Manager\Server\AgentManagement\UnixAgents\DownloadedKits
Gateway Server: \System Center Operations Manager\Gateway\AgentManagement\UnixAgents\DownloadedKits
I suggest to push the agent out vs manual install as you then don't need to worry about manually signing certificates/installing agent. Its saves considerable amount of
time and your then managing your agents from a central location.
Oh and as Steve mentioned make sure you download the Unix Management pack bundle (MPB) and not from the online catalog. This is due to the MPB is what actually contains the agents where as the catalog is just the management packs.
    Cheers,
    Martin

There is no great different in settng up gateway server in SCOM 2007 R2 and SCOM 2012. As summary, it requires
    1.Request certificates.
    2. Import those certificates into the target computers by using the MOMCertImport.exe tool.
    3. Distribute the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.GatewayApprovalTool.exe to the management server.
    4. Run the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.GatewayApprovalTool.exe tool to initiate communication between the management server and the gateway
    5. Install the gateway server.

  • AX 2012 management pack not showing any AX information

    1.
    Symptom description: Ax
2012 management pack installed, detects machine and places them in the correct group but no AX specific monitoring happens.  IE Under 'Application Object Servers\Computers' I can see my AOS servers, but under 'Application Object Servers\Instances' there
is nothing.  It's the same for Enterprise Portals and there is nothing under 'Frameworks', 'databases' or 'Environment Health'.  Under the SQL MP I can see all the databases that AX is using.
    2.
    Environment: System Center
2007 R2 CU5 running on Win 2K8 R2, all latest patches applied.  All management packs at latest versions.  All dependancies for the AX 2012 MP are loaded.
    3.
    The exact error message: No
error message as such, just missing information :
The state warning are just about disk fragmentation so can be ignored
    4.
Any recent relevant configuration change(s): This
has never worked for either of our AX 2012 environments
    5.
    Tech diagnosis history: I
have followed the Guide for deploying the AX 2102 management pack.  I've been assured by our AX team that by discovery user has the nessesary rights to the DB and AX, I've also tried using an AX\SQL admin account for the disovery with no joy.

Not sure what log files to look at?

    Hello Ollie,

  • Visio SCOM Add-In - Distributed Application Export not Contacting Management Server

I have installed the Visio 2010 SCOM Add-In to my copy of Visio 2013 (since there is no 2013 Add-in and there seemed to be enough articles that it *should* work). I can connect to my Management server from a blank diagram and add objects without issue, although
I seem to have to reconnect every time I start a new drawing. Not that the configuration is gone, I just can't do anything until I go into Configure and click OK. The real issue though is that when I go into SCOM and export a Distributed Application as a Visio
Diagram and then open it in Visio, it is not connecting to the Management server and none of the objects seem to have any SCOM data associated with them. I have tried manually linking the objects in the drawing to SCOM objects but this does not work, even
though I can see the SCOM objects.
For reference, I am doing all of this work on my Win7 machine with Visio 2013. I have the SCOM console installed on my machine. SCOM is SCOM2012 R2 running on a 2012 server.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi,
Would you please install this add-in on another new brand Windows and check the result.
I hope these can help you:
