SCOM 2012 - Dynamic Group based on a windows service

So here is the situation, I have 12 servers with a windows service called acidicalien.  What i'd like to do is dynamically group all the servers running this service together.  I kind of worked out I need a group and I need to define the dynamic
criteria, but I can't seem to find which elements I need to select to get the group to dynamically include servers with just that service.

Raju - I am trying to accomplish the same with this statement. Can someone help me with the right syntax or documentation. Microsoft does has very poor documentation on how to use Dynamic Groups in SCOM.

  • SCOM 2012 - Event ID 6024 (Launching Restart Health Service. Health Service exceeded Process\Handle Count or Private Bytes threshhold.)

I am getting event ID 6024 (LaunchRestartHealthService.js : Launching Restart Health Service. Health Service exceeded Process\Handle Count or Private Bytes threshhold.) within an interval ranging from 12-17 minutes.
    I am using SCOM (2012 SP1 and 2012 R2) on Windows Server (2008 R2 / 2012 / 2012 R2).
This issue is occurring only on agent managed computer (acting as proxy and discover managed objects on other computers setting is enabled) which i am using for monitoring my device. All discovery scripts (powershell) and monitors are targeted on this agent
    managed computer.
There are total 80 discoveries and 900 monitors. 55 discoveries and 550 monitors are enabled by default and rest all are disabled.
I am seeing event id 6024 frequently only on agent managed computer. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks,
    Mukul

To fix issue 6024, you can follow below steps:
    1. Open SCOM console. Go to Monitors -> Agent -> Entity Health -> Performance -> Health Service Performance -> Health Service State.
    2. Double click Health Service Handle Count Threshold monitor and go to Overrides page.
    3. Click Override -> For a specific object of Class: Agent. Select the affected SCOM agent QMXServer.
    4. Check on the parameter Agent Performance Monitor Type - Threshold. Change the default value 2000 to an appropriate value, like 4000. You can check the Health service handle count alert in SCOM console to get the value when the alert is generated. You
can also launch the health explorer against QMXServer to check the value when the monitor state is changed from healthy to critical.

  • All SCOM 2012 R2 dashboards are blank on Windows 7 for any user

All SCOM dashboards are showing up completely blank on several (but not all) Windows 7 machines and a 2008 R2 server (with RDS)...for any type of user. It's not a permissions issue as the same user can RDP to the SCOM Mgt server and view the dashboards just
fine. It seems to be some underying pre-requisite that isn't there, or isn't working. We've installed the pre-reqs (reportviewer, SQLSsyClrtypes, etc) to no avail. I've also tried doing a "repair" on .Net, and rebooted as described in another thread,
but that didn't work. I'm guessing it's something baked into our desktop images, but what am I missing

...also, we're seeing this event in the application log when the console is opened on an affected machine (but, not necessarily when opening the dashboard)...so, not sure it's 100% relevant.

  • Scom 2012 r2 DFS management packs mp windows 2008 r2 servers

    Hello,
I'm having an issue in getting the 2008 r2 DFS namespaces  servers to show up after installing the "Windows Server File & iSCSI Services 2012" and "Windows Server File & iSCSI Services 2012 R2".  The attached mp
documentation says to "Remove all existing DFS namespaces packs prior to installing the new dfs namespaces pack". However, the 2012 mp doesn't seem to include 2008 mp.
Does anyone have a guide or can clarify the install/upgrade instructions?
    Thanks.

    Regarding to
DFS MP Guide, this management pack contain both for windows 2008\2012

  • SCOM 2012 R2 & Exchange Server 2010 SP3 - Mailbox services not monitored

Having done everything depicted in Exchange Server 2010 MP I still have trouble with some Exchange services - they are in not monitored state (five days passed):
Mailbox All Database Services - Default-First-Site-Name
    Mailbox Database Service - Management - test.local
    Mailbox Database Service - PublicFolders - test.local
    Mailbox Database Service - Users - test.local
Mailbox Many Database Service - Default-First-Site-Name
    OfflineAddressBook Service - Default-First-Site-Name
Why is this happening? Since monitoring exchange mailbox databases is one of the most important tasks SCOM should be doing I assume something wrong is going on here. However there are no errors or alerts in SCOM console nor in OpsMgr
    log on Exchange server itself.

    Hi There,
Did you install the Microsoft Exchange monitoring correletion service while importing the Exchange 2010 management pack ?
Does your MS have RMS Emulator role ? As many alerts in the Exchange 2010 MP are targetted to Root management server class.
Also did you configure Test mailboxex and stuff post Exchange 2010 Import ?
Did you analyse the Ops manager Event logs in the MS and Agent ? Can you post the critical and Warnign events here.
Also is Agent proxy enabled ?
Also is the Action account of the Agents System or Domain account ?

  • Create Memory Group in SCOM 2012

    Hello,
I would like to create dynamic groups based on memory capacity to set the threshold for different sizes.
Anyone help me to create a group based on memory size?
    regards,
    Vijay

    Hello Vijay,
When you go to create a New Group in the Authoring workspace, and you add the Windows Computer class, you will then have a Property list to select from. Unfortunately, I don't see any reference to Memory available (although I do see referenced to both Local
    and Physical Processors).
However, if you change the class to Windows Operating System, there is a property for "Physical Memory (MB)". You can then choose the appropriate Operator (i.e. Equals, Greater Than, etc.), and then specify the value you want.

  • SCOM 2012 SP1 - Created a new group and unable to "find" newly created group to create custom report

    Hello,
I just created a new custom dynamic group based on database instances using a wildcard.  The group "DBgroup" populates just fine, I can see the members when choosing to view them via the group properties.  My issue is that when I'm going
into the reporting pane, choosing the MS generic report library, and then choosing custom configuration...I am unable to "FIND" my group that i just created?   My questions are is there a length of time in which this group will get populated
to the report server or do I have an issue?  I see no errors in the logs on the report server or management server.   I have not seen this before and I'm unsure where to go from here.  Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Hello,
Does the group pop-up in the list now? It may take hours for the new Computer Group could be used in the reports.
Besides, did you define a Group Scope for your user role?
    Thanks,

  • Create a group based on file contents

    Hello!
I'm investigating options to create a dynamic group based on periodic check of file content. I have a Shavlik updater which is patching custom groups based on file contents. I would like to create a dynamic group which should return all Windows Computer
classes that are found from this file. Anything close to sensible was found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxASdzHFTOU where author created an attribute of based on "SELECT * FROM CIM_DataFile" and then created a group out from it - but it checks
file existence, not content, would launch against all Windows Clients (and we have 1000+ of these monitored) - certainly not a valid way.
Is there any way I could do that in a simple, straightforward way?
    Thanks in advance

Ok, I got it. Have you tried modifying the group membership with powershell?

  • SCOM 2012 R2 agent with SCOM 2007 R2?

Server: SCOM 2007 R2 (now); eventual upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2
OS to monitor: Windows Server 2012
I understand SCOM 2012 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs.
I haven't been able to find documentation for or against whether SCOM 2012 R2 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and can report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs...  Is this supported?
I can't find anything on any specific CU level that might be required on SCOM 2007 R2 to support this.

    Hi,
I have not found any document talking about this. The only thing I can find is SCCM 2012 r2 agent can talk with SCCM 2012 SP1.

  • SCOM monitoring on windows services in starting or stopping state

    Hi,
Any chance if somebody can help me to set alarm on stopping and starting state  windows services  (automatic services) in SCOM for client servers.
    Balys

    1) Using Windows Service Template to create a windows service monitor with enabled "monitor only automatic service" option
    2) Export the management pack containing the monitor which created in step 1)
    3) Modidy data source from
    TypeID="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Win32ServiceInformationProviderWithClassSnapshotDataMapper">
        <ComputerName>$Target/Property[Type="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Computer"]/NetworkName$</ComputerName>

  • Service Availability Report in SCOM 2012

Hi, we are having SCOM 2012 SP1 and need a report on Service Availability for the below services running on the servers
    Active Directory
    DFS
    DNS
    PKI
    DHCP
Also, would like to understand how the SCOM would report the service availability when there are network issues (primarily WAN Issues) preventing the SCOM Server from reaching the server Hosting the service.
    Thanks,
    Naren.
    Thanks & regards, Naren.

    Hi,
In order to generate reports on the services you mentioned, you need to go through two steps for starters.
    1. You need to create Distributed Applications for the services (Active Directory excluded since that DA is already created when importing the AD MP) see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh457612.aspx for how it can be done.
    2. You also need to create SLA´s (Service Level Tracking in the Authoring pane of the console) see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh230719.aspx
The behaviour can somehow be modified since you decide what should count as donwtime when creating your SLA. However, a server which become unreachable would most likely be classified as critical and therefore it would "bring down" your service
    in SCOM.
Once you have created the DA´s you want, you can use the default report "Service Level Tracking Summary" Report under the category "Microsoft Service Level Report Library". Here, you can choose to go back to a certain time to display
your SLA levels. Be aware though, you can never go futher back than to the date where you created the DA and the SLA since that´s when the availability starts measuring.

    Daniel
