SCOM 2012 Management Packs, Names of Servers they relate to.

hello,
I'm looking to find how I can get existing data from SCOM Management Packs.
I have existing MP importing into SCOM, although I want to know how I find out what named Servers they relate to.
I have been currently been able to view the XML files and look through the code for server names, but want to find out any easier way through SCOM.  Is this possible ?
Grateful if you could advise.

Hi Rich,
I´n not really sure if i get your question correct but correct me if I´m wrong.
Once a Management Pack is imported into SCOM, It´s then distributed to all of your monitored servers where you´ve installed an agent. When this is done, the agent itself finds out what MP should be used on that particular server. A domain controller for
example will automatically use the AD Management Pack while a SQL server won´t use the AD management pack even though it is distributed to the server.
The easiest way to see which servers are using a specific MP is to look in the "Monitoring" tab in the Operations Console and there drill down to SQL Server MP for example. Then look for SQL Computers and you will see which computers have been discovered
as SQL Server computers.

  • SCOM 2012 DataWarehouse Crash effect to SCOM 2012 Manager Server

    If the SCOM 2012 Database Warehouse crash,what is effect to scom 2012 manager server?
    thanks

    Reporting will not work, data will not synchronize from the operational database, data will not be inserted into the data warehouse (it will be dropped on the management servers), you'll see a bunch of errors and alerts regarding reporting and writing/synchronizing
    data to the database, dashboards will not work, just to name a few.
    Operationally, SCOM will continue to function, generate alerts, and provide SDK (console) access without the data warehouse.

    Thank you very much!By the way
    Do you mean it does not affect the normal monitoring  function of the management server?
    another question:
    At last ,The lost data will be synchronized to the data warehouse  from management database?

  • SCOM 2012 UCS pack and C-series monitoring

    Hello,
    Does anyone know if the SCOM 2012 UCS pack can be used to monitor Cisco C-series server at the hardware level?
    If so, can it do this directly without going through UCSM (FICs)?
    If not, is there any sort of pack setup for monitoring of C-series servers?
    If this requires the 2248TP units connected up to our FICs, I'm open to that, but need to justify the costs.

    Hi Justin,
    Currently we do not have a MP to support the C series in standalone mode. This is on the roadmap and we should have it in some future releases.
    However C series integrated with UCSM can be monitored using the SCOM MP.
    Please note: For the integration, you need the 2232 FEX. UCSM version 2.0.2 onwards, we only support 2232 for the C series integration.
    Thanks!

  • Operations Manager 2012 Management Pack Catalog Web Service - Missing Management Packs

    I am using SCOM 2012 R2 with UR5 and I see things like Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 in the catalog when doing an MP import, but some other items like: SQL Server 2012/2014 and SharePoint 2013 are missing. I can download them from the MS download site,
    but is this catalog web service being maintained?

    Hi Darren, I know what you mean. It would be nice to be able to pull the latest management packs as well as management packs available from the download site from the catalog via the Operations Console, however, the packs in the catalog are not comprehensive.
    I highly recommend the SCOM management pack wiki which is kept up to date by the community. I use this myself :) An added benefit to using this wiki over the catalog is that this links to the download page for the management pack of interest from where you
    can obtain the management pack and its documentation which often contains useful detail on what the management pack entails. The wiki link is below:

  • Deploy SCOM 2012 R2 Agents to Domain Servers on Perimeter Network using SCOM Gateway on different Domain

    Hi, I have a bit odd situation on a SCOM 2012R2 deployment.
    I have a MS on the internal network, and a Gateway Server on the perimeter network. Each server is connected to different Active Directory Forests and there are no trust relationships between them. I configured the communication between the two using certificates.
    I have already connected some servers through the Gateway using certificates because there are on Workgroups, they are already approved on the MS and reporting their status.
    However, I have some servers that are member servers of the internal AD domain but are located on the perimeter network.
    So I've tried to configure one of them for testing to connect to the Gateway Server using a certificate using manual agent installation. Initially it didn't report on the SCOM, but then I ran the get-scompendingmanagement and saw that it showed there,
    so I ended up approving the agent using Powershell and then it was reported on the Console as "Not Monitored"
    First the agent was running as local system and then tried using a local admin account on the server, neither options have worked.
    I get the following errors:
    The OpsMgr Connector connected to scomgateway.externaldomain.com, but the connection was closed immediately after authentication occurred.  The most likely cause of this error is that the agent is not authorized to communicate with the server, or the
    server has not received configuration.  Check the event log on the server for the presence of 20000 events, indicating that agents which are not approved are attempting to connect.
    For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    OpsMgr was unable to set up a communications channel to scomgateway.externaldomain.com and there are no failover hosts.  Communication will resume when scomgateway.externaldomain.com is available and communication from this computer is allowed.
    For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    Is this configuration possible? Or do I need to open communication ports from the agents to the MS inside the corporate network and not use the Gateway?
    Any ideas if someone else has done this are appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Regards.
    Eduardo Rojas

    I'm sorry, maybe I didn't explained myself correctly, I already have the gateway up and running with some Workgroup machines connected to it using certificates, so the Gateway is indeed working. These Workgroup machines are in fact reporting back to the
    Management Server on the internal network through the Gateway.
    My problem is with Domain Member machines that are on the perimeter network. This machines are joined to the Active Directory inside the corporate firewall, not the Active directory from the perimeter network (where the Gateway is joined). So my question
    is, can I connect these machines through the Gateway (even if the Gateway is on a different domain) or do I need to open ports and connect them directly to the management server (which is on the same active directory domain)?
     Let me know if I made myself clear.
    Thank you.
    Regards.

  • Service Manager 2012 R2 Looking for the SDK method for Select All management packs OMCI Connector

    Hi all,
    I'm working through a script that updates the OpsMgr CI connector's MP sync list after a MP import. What I want to do is a Select All to sync the OpsMgr MP's I just imported into Service Manager. Just like checking the Select All
    box after refreshing the connector in the GUI.
    I have been through the cmdlets and looked at the assemblies in VS. I can't find the method that does this.
    I found IsNullPropertySkipped under
    Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.ServiceManager.Connectors.OpsMgr but that's it
    And nothing in here
    Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.ServiceManager.Sdk.Connectors.Connector
    Must be missing it, and am not having much luck with TechNet.
    Thanks much–Drew

    I'm afraid you won't find a quick'n'easy solution for this. I'll start out by saying I don't know if Powershell has any cmdlets for this..but I know you can use the .NET SDK via powershell to do whatever you need to do. So my post focuses on the SDK/C#. You
    should be able to adapt it in Powershell.
    The function you want to replicate (check-all) is unique to the Operations Manager CI connector implementation and, as such, my post below may sound a bit overwhelming.
    Let me start by describing where an OM CI connector's selected management packs are stored. They're stored in the connector's workflow rule (specifically, in its WriteAction module).  Take a look at the ServiceManager.LinkingFramework.Configuration
    management pack where all OM CI connector rules are stored. Look for a rule that starts with "OMConnector." (the dot will be followed by some random string of text and "_SyncRule"). Take a look at the <WriteAction> and you'll see an <MPList>
    node that contains a bunch of <MPInfo> nodes. Each <MPInfo> node represents a management pack that was selected in the OM CI Connector wizard.
    So, if I understand what you're trying to do, when you import a new MP into Service Manager, you want to add that MP to the OM CI connector's sync list. First; if that MP doesn't exist in OpsMgr, there isn't much point to adding it to the sync list, so I'll
    assume you want to add MPs to the sync list that also exist in OpsMgr). Second; there may be other constraints on what MPs you can actually choose in that OM CI wizard and it would be wise to respect those constraints in your own solution. In any case, you'll
    have to modify the OM CI connector's rule's write action. There are a couple approaches you can try.
    You can try using Microsoft's helper classes that were built for OM CI Connectors (check out the OpsMgrConnectorHelper class and related classes in the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.ServiceManager.OpsMgrConnectorUtils.dll.
    Also check out the OpsMgr connector wizard classes in the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.ServiceManager.UI.Administration.dll).
    The other possible approach is to modify the connector's rule directly using the SDK's ManagementPackRule and ManagementPackWriteActionModule classes. You can easily get your OM CI connector's rule using the management pack's "GetRule" method (or the EnterpriseManagementGroup's
    Monitoring.GetRule method). The management pack rule has a "WriteActionCollection" which is a collection of ManagementPackWriteActionModule objects. There should be only one ManagementPackWriteActionModule in an OM CI rule's write action collection.
    This object has a "Configuration" property..it contains a giant block of XML that holds all of the <MPInfo> nodes I mentioned earlier. So, you can modify that block of XML, then write the changes back to the management pack using the management pack's
    AcceptChanges() method. Here's the basic structure:
    ManagementPack mpLinkingFramework = emg.ManagementPacks.GetManagementPack(new Guid("50DAAF82-06CE-CACB-8CF5-3950AEBAE0B0")); //ServiceManager.LinkingFramework.Configuration
    ManagementPackRule mpr = mpLinkingFramework.GetRule("<my connector's rule's name>");
    ManagementPackWriteActionModule mpwam = mpr.WriteActionCollection[0];
    String myConfig = mpwam.Configuration; //This is the XML block you want to update
    myConfig = "<a modified configuration with my new <MPInfo> node>";
    mpwam.Configuration = myConfig;
    mpLinkingFramework.AcceptChanges();
    Please note I haven't personally tried modifying an OM CI connector's rule using this method and I can't promise it will work..you'll definitely want to try it in a test environment first. But I can say I have modified my own connectors (and other write actions)
    using this technique and it works fine. I just can't say for sure how it might affect an OM CI connector since I haven't tried it myself.
    Though my post here is definitely _not_ a solution, hopefully it will give you some guidance on how you might approach your solution.
    Maybe someone else here has personally used the OM CI connector classes and can give you some better insight.

    machines and rebooting them will take one minute, or something like that) then it will become the active MS/RMS (a failback configuration).
    If MS2 will fail (while the RMS is still down) then the third MS (MS3) will become the active one; if MS2 (or RMS) will recover then the active MS will be MS2 (or RMS).
    Q1: That means Customer Configured Cluster Failover ? any specific ?
    If yes. Do we have any Cluster IP which connect to Active MS (Actually SCOM Probe needs to be connected to MS)
    Q2 : When Primary MS 1 goes down.. how Operator will see events from Which MS ? (Is Operational console will be installed on MS* also) ?
    Q 3: So if there one connector to MS1 and a second connector on MS2, both MS on the same management group, and configured to get the same group of alarms (for example ResolutionState = 0
    (New) ) then the two connectors will be in a race condition: each connector will receive different alarms because the alarms are stored in the same database (and not on the MS itself).
    Is my understanding correct?
    Thanks

  • SCOM 2012 with SCDPM 2012 MP

    We've SCOM 2012 (without R2...). We need to deploy SCDPM 2012 R2 Management Pack.
    My questions are:
    1) Is it necessaty deploy SCDPM 2012 R2 central console on SCOM Server?
    2) What are the benefits of deploying SCDPM 2012 R2 console?
    3) Is there a problema with SCOM 2012 and SCDPM 2012 R2 central console?
    4) If I've 4 SCOM servers...Must I deploy SCDPM central console on all SCOM servers ??
    Thanks

    Install the DPM Central Console on the OpsMgr Management Server
    Central Console is a System Center 2012 Operations Manager console that can be deployed to manage and monitor multiple System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) servers from a single location
    No, it must working.
    No, it not necessary to deploy on all servers

  • Exchange 2010 Management Pack Data Warehouse Synchronization Fails

    Hi Everyone!
    Has anyone had success with importing the Exchange 2010 management pack into Service Manager 2012?
    When we try to import it, it fails.
    Upon further investigation, the 'System Center Core Monitoring' management pack (which is not included with Service Manager 2012) is a dependency of the Exchange 2010 management pack but
    after we import it from the OpsMgr 2012 media, we still get the following warning when we import the  Exchange 2010 management into Service Manager 2012...
    "The management pack was imported successfully.
    Warnings (1):
    Override verification failed, cannot find Management Pack Element : : Cannot find ManagementPackElement [Type=ManagementPackRule, ID=Microsoft.SystemCenter.Agent.MonitoringHost.PrivateBytesThreshold] in management pack ManagementPack:[Name=Microsoft.SystemCenter.2007,
    KeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, Version=6.0.6246.0]."
    ...and, the Exchange 2010 management pack status in the Service Manager 2012 Data Warehouse 'Management Pack' view indicates 'failed' after the MPSyncJob completes.
    We have a few 'Business Services' which depend on the Exchange 2010 management pack that we are trying to synchronize from OpsMgr 2012 and we are stuck until we can get the Exchange 2010 management
    successfully imported into Service Manager 2012 and have it show a status of 'Completed'  the Service Manager 2012 Data Warehouse 'Management Pack' view.
    Nothing useful in the
     Service Manager 2012 Data Warehouse and Management servers events logs that we could see.
    Any help or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Regards,
    JJ

    Update: I Just tested with CU2 installed for SrvMgr 2012 and OpsMgr 2012 and version 14.3.38.2 of the Exchange 2010 management, but the management pack still fails to deploy to the SrvMgr 2012 data warehouse (the management pack status shows
    up as 'failed' and the MPSyncJob shows the management pack as 'pending association').  The only clue I have for this problem is the folllowing warning which occurs when I import the management pack into SrvMgr 2012...
    I also get the following 33519 Event ID warning in the Operations Manager event log on the data warehouse server...
    ~~~~~
    Management pack association ignored. This does not require any action. If you continue to frequently see this warning, contact your administrator. This process will continue to retry.
    Management pack ID: e2296ed5-ddbc-ebc7-3881-c5288adaa7cf
    Management pack name: Microsoft.Exchange.2010
    Management pack version: 14.3.38.2
    Data source name: SRV
    Message: Either the MP has failed deployment Or any of its references has failed deployment
    ~~~~~
    Has anyone had success with getting the Exchange 2010 management pack imported and successfully deployed to the SrvMgr 2012 data warehouse?
    The good news is that even though the Exchange 2010 management pack has a status of failed, the distributed applications in OpsMgr 2012 that depend on the Exchange management pack now show up under Configuration Items/Business Services including
    all related service component objects which was what I was trying to accomplish in the first place, so for now I'll just leave the Exchange 2010 management pack in the data warehouse with a failed status.

  • A question regarding Management pack dependency.

    Hi All,
    I am new to SCOM, I have a question regarding management pack dependency.
    My question is, Is Dependency is required when New alerts are created in a unsealed MP and the object class selected during alert creation is (i.e Windows server 2012 full operating system) and it is on a Sealed management pack ?
    For example i have a Sealed Windows server 2012 monitoring management pack.
    I have made a custom one, for windows server 2012, So if it the custom is not dependent on the sealed Windows server 2012 monitoring management pack, Then cant i create any alerts in the custom management pack targeting the class Windows server
    2012 full operating system ?

    Hi CyrAz,
    Thank you for the reply. Now if your's and my understanding is the same, Then look at the below what happened.
    I created a Alert monitor targeting a Windows Server 2012 class in my custom management pack which
    is not dependent on the Windows server 2012 management pack, But how was i successfully able to create them when the dependency is not there at all, If our understanding is same, then there must be an Error thrown while creating the monitor its self right
    ? But how was SCOM able to create that ?
    Look at the below screenshot.
    I was able to create a monitor targeting Windows server 2012 Full operating system and create a alert on the custom management pack which is not at all dependent
    on the Windows server 2012 Sealed MP.
    Look at the dependency of the management pack where i do not have the Windows server 2012 management as my custom management is not dependent on that.
    Then how come this is possible ?

  • Updating management packs and adding new onces

    Hello Forum
    I enjoy the use of SCOM to monitor our environment.
    But i have Two questions:
    1. Will updating management packs from the builtin utility remove any custom overrides and monitors?
    For example i have crated custom disk monitors under the Windows Server Management Pack and Custom SQL monitors under the SQL sql management.
    2. Why are only some management packs available from the builtin utility? for example Exchange 2010 and AD 2012 Management packs are downloads on the download center? Why not publish them to the builtin utility of SCOM?
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
    1. No, updating management packs will not remove custom overrides. However, with new mp's, new monitors may come, which change some of the monitors which you have overriden. Always read the MP documentation for new mps and test the new mp in a test environment.
    2. Regarding the Exchange 2010, there have been some issues earlier, why it was taken off the online catalog. This will also give you the managment pack documentation, which you should always read.

    Michael

  • SCOM 2012 - SQL Connection strings

    Hey SCOM gurus
    Wonder if you can help?
    I need to change my SCOM 2012 Management Server 'SQL Connection strings' to use a load balancer dns name of 'sql-listener'. Can anyone suggest how this might be done? (basically we now have a SQL 2014 Cluster in the background).
    thanks
    Karen

    Hello,
    You must change the database name in the registry, more information : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh278848.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
