SCOM 2012 Memory Pages Per Second is too High

Hi
With the latest update from Scom Windows Server Operation System Monitoring
now we have this alert many times only on Server with a lot of Memory.
For Example we have 3 Hyper-V Cluster Server with 144 GB Ram. Used Memory is almost 40 GB. But we receive daily 2 ore 3 time this message. And it will be closed after some minutes again.
Exact the same with the Backup Server with 32 GB Ram. Uses Memory is 16 GB Ram
All other Server show never an Error like this. And before this Update come. We see never a problem.
Any Idea

Hi
Now I see the Problem. We have installed DPM 2012 at the same Time and i think this is a Problem with the DPM Agent. The alerts are always on the same time.
So I think is not a problem from monitoring.
Thank you for your assistance
Kind regards

  • Memory pages per sec is too high

Hi,  I see the value 5000 in monitor "Memory Pages Per Second" in the tab "Threshold Comparison>Specify Threshold value to compare".  Is this value in MB or pages/sec that system writes/reads.
    Please make me understand.
    -Satya

    I don't think 5000 is a value in MB.
    Taken from
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2008/01/29/an-overview-of-troubleshooting-memory-issues-part-two.aspx
Please check the underlined part below -
Pages/sec is the rate at which pages are read from or written to disk to resolve
hard page faults. This counter is a primary indicator of the kinds of faults
that cause system-wide delays.  It is the sum of Memory \ Pages Input/sec and
Memory \ Pages Output/sec.  It is counted in numbers of pages, so it can be
compared to other counts of pages, such as Memory \ Page Faults/sec, without
conversion. It includes pages retrieved to satisfy faults in the file system
cache (usually requested by applications) non-cached mapped memory files.

  • Pages Per Second, User Modes

What is being recorded in the Pages per second metrics, is it:
    1) The DOWNLOAD and (emulated) RENDERING of the page with its attributes/objects (pages, images, frames etc)
    OR
    2) Just the DOWNLOAD of the page with its attributes/objects.
Does this change between User Modes i.e. Thick and Thin Client

    Hi Paul,
A page is the eTester representation of what would be a web page in terms of navigations and actions that are performed in the web browser after the document is completely rendered and before the last transition.
Open the navigation editor and take a look at the Navigations tree. There it can be seen how the pages are divided. Each page will have between 0 to multiple navigations. Pages with zero navigations doesn't count, these pages won't even be shown in the report. If the page have frames the page will show more than one navigation. If the web application uses ajax or a similar technology with http transactions, or if the page uses java applets, flash objects or activex controls that makes http transactions and the proxy recorder was On, then the pages most likely will show more than one navigation.
eLoad will request all the navigations contained in any given page of any script in your load test scenario, if the web server will responds back successfuly for all the navigations, then this is counted as one page received. eLoad willl be requesting multiple pages from the different scripts that exists in the scenario submitted then it will count how many of those pages are being received in an interval of time, then makes a units convertion of the time interval in order to display it in seconds.
The pages received per second is the average of how many pages with all the navigations contained in it were successfully obtained from the web servers every second.
The pages per second is the same statistic regardless if you are running in thick or in thin.
The pages per second doesn't take into consideration the download of images, scripts, css, or any other object. These are considered in the hits per second.

  • OfficeJet 4500 g510n-z starts off the top of the page about an inch too high of where it should

It starts printing about an inch before the paper starts ... Thanks!

If you print a test page, is it the same way? If not, then it would be something in the software/driver settings.

  • Svchost.exe with "Dhcp, eventlog, lmhosts" services is generating thousands of page faults and I/O reads per second?

On one of our Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise (SP1) servers, we're noticing a strange phenomenon.....that the svchost.exe that hosts "Dhcp, eventlog, lmhosts" is constantly generating page faults....a few thousand per second, accumulating to billions of total
page faults.  I/O reads and I/O other are also rising every second.  Cpu is consistently 2%, and memory is constant. (~40M).
I'm guessing that it's the eventlog service because our HP openview log reader (opcle.exe) is also working hard to keep up.  I've searched for others posting a similar problem but am coming up empty handed.
This is a MS Analysis Services 2008 server, but we haven't noticed any problems coming from SSAS.  We have other file sharing-related jobs that interact with this server, that sometimes take 30 min and sometimes 6 hours, for the same workload....and
we're thinking that the 6 hour runs are somehow related to this process's unusual page faults.
Anyone else seen this eventlog strange behavior?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The best thing would be downloading the Process Explorer and analyzing the problem.

  • How to use the SCOM 2012 Web Reporting page

    Hello all-
We are on SCOM 2012 SP1.  I just have a general question about reporting.  I know there is a "Reporting" tab in the real, locally installed, SCOM Operations Console software.  That part I get.  I see that there
are many pre-made reports the for me to run.  For example under Microsoft Server 2008 Operating System (Monitoring) folder there is a
Performance History report.  When I double click on it, it takes me to the report window where I can click
Add Object and add a server and then click
    Run.
This is pretty simple in concept.   BUT very few people at my company have the full Operations Console installed on their machine.  And as I'm sure you know, the SCOM Web Console does not have a Reporting Tab.  So they have to use the
SCOM Reporting website to run such reports.  I found that you can get to this page at the url:
    http://<reporting server>/Reports
This does bring up the Reporting console.  On the list I do see a Report.Windows.Server.2008.PerformanceHistory listed. So this surely seems to be the equivalent from my screenshot above.   However, it's not even close to user friendly like
the Reporting area in the SCOM operations console software. There's multiple fields at the top. All of which are required, and almost none of which have dropbox or other ways to help you fill them in. I have no idea what to put into these boxes or the format
    to use.
What am I missing here?  Is there a more user friendly interface anywhere?  In an ideal world, I'd really love to have a user interface where I can post the links to a few popular reports, like CPU and Disk Space for example.  Then ideally
all the user would have to do is select their servers and the time frame and that's all.   Which really is what you do in the Operations Console software.   So isn't is it that easy in the web reporting tool?  Is there a guide or how-to
section somewhere I'm missing?  Or just a more friendly looking way to get at this information?

Well, my first screen shot above is squished, so you really can't see it.  But what I'm saying is that the same report in the SCOM software has the level of configuration I want on it.   It allows you to pick the date range and add objects
to it, then you can click on Run.     However when I access the same report on the reporting console, it has all these extra fields.  None of which I know how to fill in properly.
I would ultimately like my customers to be able to do exactly that in the web version.  Pick their server and their date range and run it.   There are not likely going to be too many reports like you're mentioning which I can completely configure
before hand, so they just click on the link to have it run.  Most times I'd like my users to at least be able to select a server name.
Any idea how I would simplify the web version of the report?  Or why they look so very different?

  • Too High Wakeups-from-idle per second

I am using Arch for the past few months and I have been noticing that the battery is draining much quicker than it used to be in windows.
I used powertop and found out that the "Wakeups-from-idle per second" is way too high. It is ~300 per second on average and once i even saw numbers like 8000 !!
The link http://www.linuxpowertop.org/powertop.php quotes it is possible to get 3 wakeups running a full GNOME desktop. It says that 193 is lot more than 3.
But in my case the numbers are way too high than expected. I run Arch with XFCE4.
Can somebody explain why am I seeing such high numbers and is this the reason for my battery draining ?

nachiappan wrote:Can somebody explain why am I seeing such high numbers and is this the reason for my battery draining ?
Powertop shows what is causing the wakeups. If it is the kernel, trying a different frequency governor might help.
More than likely tweaking a few different settings together will get you more battery life, the wakeups alone won't be doing all the battery draining.
There's lots of helpful hints on power saving here:

edit: seems your cpu isn't being monitored correctly. 3000% seems so wrong.
What kernel and cpu are you using?

  • SCOM 2012 Install: Second MS blank drop down on DB name

I sucessfully configured my SCOM 2012 enviroment but when trying to add a second MS I get a blank drop down in the database name under "configure the operational database". I can connect succesfully to the sql server and instance in the install wizard
as well as creating a test ODBC connection to the Operations Manager DB. The SQL server 2008 has been installed with the collation of SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS and all the prereq checks pass.

Never mind I fixed it. A scom agent was installed on the server and was removed  but was not deleted from SCOM

  • SQL Server memory Configuration - SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi,
The following article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077#BKMK_SupConfigSQLDBconfig states the following about SQL Server memory configuration for SCCM:
When you use a database server that is co-located with the site server, limit the memory for SQL Server to 50 to 80 percent of the available addressable system memory.
When you use a dedicated SQL Server, limit the memory for SQL Server to 80 to 90 percent of the available addressable system memory.
    The question is:
Is there any advice (from technet articles) about SQL Server memory configuration for SCOM 2012 R2?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi There,
    Read the 5th point below
General SQL Server recommendations for System Center 2012 R2
This information describes general recommendations for SQL Server regardless of what System Center component you are deploying.
You will need a minimum of four computers to deploy all System Center components. Aside from performance reasons, not all system components can coexist on the same computer. For more information, see Component
Coexistence for System Center 2012 R2.
For testing purposes only, one SQL Database Engine Services instance may be used for all components, but is not recommended in a production setting due to performance concerns.
Reporting Services instances cannot be shared between System Center components.
SQL_* collations are being deprecated for their Windows equivalents.
Limit the memory of each SQL Server instance such that the Total Memory setting allows a minimum of 1 GB (2GB preferred) of free memory after all services are running.
System Center components requiring the most disk resources are Service Manager, Operations Manager and Configuration Manager.
Disks used should be formatted to a 64K allocation unit size.
Disks used should be configured to allow 20% free space after all calculations for monitoring. Set growth upper limits to not exceed this space limit.
Pre-sizing is preferred - use auto-grow if needed as it uses more resources.
Set Pre-size to 8GB/2GB as a minimum. 20-30% of the database file size is a rule of thumb.
    Set Auto-grow to 500/100 as a minimum.

  • Printing 2 pages per sheet reduces size too much

    Hi,
    I'm printing a document using Reader 8.1.0.
I print 2 pages per sheet, side-by-side. A4 documents should be reduced to A5, that is reduction to 71%.
But the final result is reduced by more than that: 64%.
I tried on 2 different printers with the same result.
Is there a way to get 2 A5 pages? Is this linked anyway to the printers or to an option in Reader?
    Thanks
    Oscar

    Hi donmellado
    Welcome to the forum.
    Just go:
    +Menu > File > Print > Layout > Pages per sheet: 2+
Don't rotate the sheet or specify a reduction size, this is not necessary, the Mac will work it all out for you.

  • How many of these objects should I be able to insert per second?

I'm inserting these objects using default (not POF) serialization with putAll(myMap). I receive about 4000 new quotes per second to put in the cache. I try coalescing them to various degrees but my other apps are still slowing down when these inserts are taking place. The applications are listening to the cache where these inserts are going using CQCs. The apps may also be doing get()s on the cache. What is the ideal size for the putAll? If I chop up myMap into batches of 100 or 200 objects then it increases the responsiveness of other apps but slows down the overall time to complete the putAll. Maybe I need a different cache topology? Currently I have 3 storage enabled cluster nodes and 3 proxy nodes. The quotes go to a distributed-scheme cache. I have tried both having the quote inserting app use Extend and becoming a TCMP cluster member. Similar issues either way.
    Thanks,

Well, firstly, I surprised you are using "float" objects in a financial object, but that's a different debate... :)
Second, why aren't you using pof? Much more compact from my testing; better performance too.
I've inserted similar objects (but with BigDecimal for the numeric types) and seen insert rates in the 30-40,000 / second (single machine, one node). Obviously you take a whack when you start the second node (backup's being maintained, plus that node is probably on a separate server, so you are introducing network latency.) Still, I would have thought 10-20,000/second would be easily doable.
What are the thread counts on the service's you are using?; I've found this to be quite a choke point on high-throughput caches. What stats are you getting back from JMX for the Coherence components?; what stats from the server (CPU, Memory, swap, etc)?; What spec of machines are you using? Which JVM are you using? How is the JVM configured? What's are the GC times looking like? Are you CQC queries using indexes? Are your get()'s using indexes, or just using keys? Have you instrumented your own code to get some stats from it? Are you doing excessive logging? So many variables here... Very difficult to say what the problem is with so little info./insight into your system.
Also, maybe look at using a multi-threaded "feeder" client program for your trades. That's what I do (as well as upping the thread-count on the cache service thread) and it seems to run fine (with smaller batch sizes per thread, say 50.) We "push" as well as fully "process" trades (into Positions) at a rate of about 7-10,000 / sec on a 4 server set-up (two cache storage nodes / server; two proxies / server.) Machines are dual socket, quad-core 3GHz Xeons. The clients use CQC and get()'s, similar to your set-up.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Report Server component install to SQL 2012 Sp1 error?

    Hi All
Im having issues installing SCOM 2012 R2 Report Server component to a SQL 2012 Sp1 Server (which is a Windows 2012 R2 Standard server).  Im trying to install to the SQL Default server instance, note that the server also has a named instance
which hosts the SCOM databases.  SQL Reporting Services is up and running fine (can access the web urls etc).  Im also using the SCOM install account wich has full SQL and SCOM Server admin rights for the install.  Ive checked that the Firewall
is off locally on the SQL Server, Ive also checked that the existing SCOM components are all in a Healthy state in the SCOM console.
The installed version of SQL Server could not be verified or is not supported. Verify that the computer and the installed version of SQL Server meet the minimum requirements for installation, and that the firewall settings are correct. See the Supported
    Configurations document for further information.
Ive attempted the install on a standalone SQL Server away from the SQL Server hosting the SCOM databases, but encounter the same error.  The full SCOM MSI Installer log details are below, line that appears most relevant is below but unsure why
this would be the case (same account that I used for SQL install etc).  Any help much appreciated! : )

The issue is SQL report server database related, I would like to suggest you create a new report database for SCOM and then check the reuslt. Please refer to the below links and follow it to set up SCOM 2012 R2:

  • Issue with SQL Agent when install SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi all,
i'm try to install SCOM 2012 R2 with all components (Mgmt Server, Operation Console, Web Console, Reporting Server)
Everything is fine, except Reporting Server. I have attached the picture below
I have also check the SQL Server Agent in SQL Server Configuration Manager. It has already started. But... i dont know why?
Is there anyone know what wrong it is??

    Many thanks Gautam,
i have checked again in Repoting Services Configuration Manager & change the database to the local SCOM
Cause i'm using database for management server, dataware house on SCCM. So reporting service automatic set the database on SCCM also.... :(
So now i will show everyone who try to install SCOM
For the Management & DatawareHouse database --> you could install on any SQL Server (open port 1433)
    For the Reporting Services:
On the local SCOM, install SQL Server with these components (SQL Engine: SQL Agent; SQL Reporting)
After install SQL successfully, login to the Reporting Services Configuration Manager to set:
First, create the new database on local SCOM
Second, Web Service URL. login to the IIS to create self-signed certification for own SCOM. then turn back too Web Service URL to create SSL Certification
Set SQL Agent service to Automatic, then start
so, that's all. I'm crazy with this issue for a whole day :)
