SCOM 2012 - Question : Company knowledge

Hi everyone ..
I have a question about SCOM. We're using "Company Knowledge" to specify instructions on monitors / rules and my question is:
Is it possible to specify differents "Company Knowledge" depending of servers on a same monitor/rule? Or to use a variable (name server) directly in the word text ? Because according to the server, we need not resolve alerts in the same way.
Thank you !
Jérémy

I found a Management Pack who make exactly what i want. It's a workaround but in my case, it work fine !

  • Adding Company Knowledge with OpsMgr 2012 Console - "Failed to launch Microsoft Word"

    Hi everyone!
I'm trying to add company knowledge using the OpsMgr 2012 console (32-bit) on Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit) using the guidelines provided at the following link...
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212900.aspx
I'm using Office 2010 Pro Plus SP1 (32-bit) with the .NET Programmability feature and the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime installed, but I get the dreaded "failed to launch Microsoft Word" error...
...any help or guidance would be greatly apprecaited!
    Regards,
    JJ

    Thanks Andres!
I have confirmed that the following instructions does allow you to use Word 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 64-bit or Windows Server 2008 R2 to edit company
    knowledge...
    1. Go to the directory where the OpsMgr console is installed (example: C:\Program Files\System Center\Operations Manager 2012\Console )
    2. Make a copy of Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config
    3. Edit Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Monitoring.Console.exe.config using Administrator rights
    4. Search for “</dependentAssembly>” and remove the “<publisherPolicy apply="no" />” line immediately following the “</dependentAssembly>” line
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    JJ
Well, firstly I have to agree with other people's comments along the lines of "It shouldn't be this hard!", but I can happily say that the solution above (by IM5FOOTNOTHIN)
worked for me...once I noticed this crucial footnote: "Do this for
    ALL instances of the
<publisherPolicy apply="no" /> line that immediately follow the </dependentAssembly> line"

    Hi All,
    With reference to http://blogs.technet.com/b/operationsmgr/archive/2009/06/15/new-security-hardening-guide-for-operations-manager-2007-r2-and-windows-server-2008.aspx
I would like to know is there any update for SCOM 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2012 R2? What would be the process and where can I get the SCW file 2012 R2 platform?
    Thanks & Regards, Kedar

I cannot find the update for this SCW definition file for 2012 R2 either. Anyway, you could edit the policy file on you own based on needs.

  • Question on upgrading to SCOM 2012 R2 form SCOM 2012 SP1

    Hello!
    I planned upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2 form SCOM 2012 SP1.
Should I install any or last update rollup package to my SCOM 2012 SP1, before upgrading to SCOM 2012 R2 ?

It is highly recommend that you has install most updated CU before upgrade SCOM 2012 sp1 1 to SCOm 2012 R2 but it is not necessary.  You should view NEPA PFE Team blog that demostrate how to upgrade SCOM 2012 SP1 with CU4 to SCOM 2012 R2.

  • How to use the SCOM 2012 Web Reporting page

    Hello all-
We are on SCOM 2012 SP1.  I just have a general question about reporting.  I know there is a "Reporting" tab in the real, locally installed, SCOM Operations Console software.  That part I get.  I see that there
are many pre-made reports the for me to run.  For example under Microsoft Server 2008 Operating System (Monitoring) folder there is a
Performance History report.  When I double click on it, it takes me to the report window where I can click
Add Object and add a server and then click
    Run.
This is pretty simple in concept.   BUT very few people at my company have the full Operations Console installed on their machine.  And as I'm sure you know, the SCOM Web Console does not have a Reporting Tab.  So they have to use the
SCOM Reporting website to run such reports.  I found that you can get to this page at the url:
    http://<reporting server>/Reports
This does bring up the Reporting console.  On the list I do see a Report.Windows.Server.2008.PerformanceHistory listed. So this surely seems to be the equivalent from my screenshot above.   However, it's not even close to user friendly like
the Reporting area in the SCOM operations console software. There's multiple fields at the top. All of which are required, and almost none of which have dropbox or other ways to help you fill them in. I have no idea what to put into these boxes or the format
    to use.
What am I missing here?  Is there a more user friendly interface anywhere?  In an ideal world, I'd really love to have a user interface where I can post the links to a few popular reports, like CPU and Disk Space for example.  Then ideally
all the user would have to do is select their servers and the time frame and that's all.   Which really is what you do in the Operations Console software.   So isn't is it that easy in the web reporting tool?  Is there a guide or how-to
section somewhere I'm missing?  Or just a more friendly looking way to get at this information?

Well, my first screen shot above is squished, so you really can't see it.  But what I'm saying is that the same report in the SCOM software has the level of configuration I want on it.   It allows you to pick the date range and add objects
to it, then you can click on Run.     However when I access the same report on the reporting console, it has all these extra fields.  None of which I know how to fill in properly.
I would ultimately like my customers to be able to do exactly that in the web version.  Pick their server and their date range and run it.   There are not likely going to be too many reports like you're mentioning which I can completely configure
before hand, so they just click on the link to have it run.  Most times I'd like my users to at least be able to select a server name.
Any idea how I would simplify the web version of the report?  Or why they look so very different?

  • Guide to productively use SCOM 2012 ?

    Hello everyone,
I am having a hard time trying to find what to do with the SCOM 2012 R2 UR4 installation I have done. I personally think that SCOM has a very steep learning curve. Seems to me one needs a PhD degree in rocket science to be able to fully use SCOM!!
Other monitoring tools like (spiceworks) are so very easy to setup and use.
I wish someone could tell me (in plain words) what is the sequence of things a SCOM admin should do to be productive.
Is there a guide out there?
Here are some of the questions I still have in my mind:
I have SCOM installed, now what?
I am supposed to install agents on all my 150+ servers or just a few?
How can I make sure SCOM watches over the servers? (warn me for simple things like disk space, CPU pegged etc)
Create dashboards on a wall mounted display?
Here is what I have been able to do until now...done the installation.... started monitoring a couple of web applications...you know... basic website is up/down notifications. But I wanna do more.
    Please help me!

SCOM is a sophisticated monitoring tool and has a easy setup and use characteristic.
    1) Built up SCOM infrastructure: SCOM Managment Server, DB Server, SCOM console and SCOM reporting
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2013/10/18/opsmgr-2012-r2-quickstart-deployment-guide.aspx
    2) Deploy SCOM Agents to machines which you want to monitor: In your situation, i recommend that you should deploy SCOM agent to 150+ server by using discovery method
    http://prajwaldesai.com/installing-scom-agent-on-windows-based-computers/
    3) Deploy rquired MP:In your situation, it is recommend that Windows OS MP should be installed and the latest version should be downloaded from
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=9296
    4) Create dashboards:http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2011/09/27/introducing-operations-manager-2012-dashboards.aspx
    5) If you want to receive email alert in addition to SCOM alert, you should configure email notification and subscription:http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2012/04/28/opsmgr-2012-configure-notifications.aspx
    6) Tunning threshold for your environment
There are serveral built-in performance based monitors in Windows OS MP which need you attention. By deafult, Windows OS built-in monitors threshold is good but may not fit your company requirement which you should change it vale by using override
       a) Disk space monitor:

  • Three agent UR versions gets installed from gateway - SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4

    Hi,
We have a SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 installation with several gateways that servers connect to and get installation from.
We noticed that when the agent get installed on a client server it gets first the agent itself, then UR1, UR2 and last UR4.
From the XML-section in the task that has installed the agent one can read the following:
    SoftwareUpdateInstalled KB2784734-amd64-Agent.msp;KB2826664-amd64-Agent.msp;KB2880799-amd64-Agent.msp; SoftwareUpdateInstalled
Below is from the application log of a newly installed server that got the agent installed.
The question I have is if this is correct? Why are all three UR installed?
Shouldn't it be enough with the latest version of UR? Are they not cumulative?
Can I simply delete the older versions in the agent directory of the Gateway?

    Hi,
This should be normal, as we can see in the below two articles. When applying Update Rollup 2, UR1 is listed there, and when applying Update Rollup 3, UR1 and UR2 is listed there also.

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 and SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi there,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this issue, if it is one...
I am halfway through an Exchange migration, from Exchange 2010 SP3 on Server 2008 R2 to Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2.
76 users in total, roughly 80GB of Public Folders.
I have configured the 2013 environment with a cross datacenter DAG, also increased all of the timeouts of the cluster to take this into consideration, and everything appears to function as expected.
Added both 2013 machines to SCOM 2012 R2 for at least a week with no active users on it, and all monitoring reported ok, no issues.
Exchange 2010 is configured to use webmail.company.com for RPC over HTTP, which is what I have configured 2013 to use as well.
Implemented Microsoft ARR for client access to Exchange 2013, as opposed to ISA we've used for Exchange 2010.
A week ago, changed the DNS records for webmail.company.com from ISA to ARR, and all clients connected perfect.
Thought, ok, now we can start the migration. So far everything "seems" to be going perfect with the mailbox moves, however, SCOM is really noisy.
Attempted to reran the probe for EWS and got the error below:
Is there perhaps anyone that can assist me with these errors?
    Cheers

FYI... IIS ARR is not supported for Exchange Server.
Check in event log if you are getting anything related to the issue.
About Outlook POP UP to end users. Check the event log on 2010/2013 for MRS events.
Are those mailboxes still moving or in move request?

  • SCOM 2012 R2 # Windows Server agents remain in pending management

    Hi,
First I installed one SCOM 2012 R2 Ops Manager. On same SCOM ops manager I added 3 windows server agents to monitor as below..
    one 2008 R2 AD server
    one Lync 2013 FE server
    one Exchange server 2013
Now due to some technical issues later I had to completely remove/uninstall SCOM 2012 R2 setup. But I forgot to uninstall/remove 3 agents first before uninstalling SCOM 2012 R2 ops manager :( However I did manual uninstall of Microsoft monitoring agent setup
from all 3 monitored agent servers.
Now I setup new SCOM 2012 R2 ops manager once again. FQDN of new SCOM has been changed now, though server is in same domain as old one. Problem I am facing here is " I cannot able to add those 3 agents back into new SCOM ops manager. When I install
agent back onto those 3 servers (by agent discovery or manual setup) , servers remains in pending management. I used power shell command to approve all 3 but even after approval servers are not being monitored. Health status always showing not monitored. A
    blank green circle.
I think I didn't properly removed old agent setup, & somehow those 3 agents still bound to old SCOM ops manager.
Could you please help me how I can remove remaining components of old agent setup from windows agent servers and monitor them with new SCOM?
    BR,
    Ajit

Ensure that the following registry keys are deleted:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HealthService
Reboot the agent machine (if possible)
Delete the agent from Agent Managed in the OpsMgr console.
Then try to discovery and push agent from console if failed. Try to install it manual and then from pending management click approved.

  • Logical Disk space on a virtual Computer (not a Server) in SCOM 2012

    Hello all-
I have a sort of unique situation for our SCOM environment.  We are already doing logical disk space monitoring on all of our SERVERS with no issues.  Now we have one user who requires monitoring on their computer.  This is really
a virtual workstation, as opposed to a real computer.   Since it's virtual, it's really online all the time.    Whether its right or wrong, they are using this virtual workstation sort of as a server.  Anyway, they want me to
monitor the disk space for the C drive on this virtual computer.  I'm having difficulty setting up such a monitor on a computer like that...
I got the SCOM agent installed onto the computer.  SCOM is reporting it as being "Healthy".   Now how can I define a logical disk space monitor for it?   I attempt to create a monitor:   Windows Performance Counters,
Static Thresholds, Single Threshold.  Then how can I direct the monitor at the C drive on the computer?  I have to fill in the Object, Counter and Instanace.  Normally I would click on the
Select button, then I would type in the server name and hit Enter and it would bring up all the objects it will allow me to monitor.  Unfortunately it doesn't let me type in the computer name and hit enter in the same way.  When I
do so, it says "The network path was not found".  If I click on the
... button next to the Computer field, it brings me to a Select Computer screen.  In here, I am type in the computer name and then I click
Check Name and it does appear to find it, and it underlines the computer's name.    So I then click
OK to bring me back to the previous screen where it presents me with the same  "The network path was not found" error immediately. So I can't seem to navigate to the computer in SCOM and select the C drive, as I would be able
    to for a server.
I tried to sort of force it in, instead of browsing for the computer and selecting the C drive.  I simply put
LogicalDisk in for the Object then Free Megabytes for the Counter, then
C: for the Instance (as shown in the attached screen print.
Then I just applied my new rule to the computer via SCOM.  I don't get any error messages when setting it up that way, but it certainly doesn't work.
So with all that said, can anyone help me out setting up a logical disk space monitoring for a COMPUTER in SCOM 2012 SP1 please?  Please let me know if you need any more information!

Thanks, that would probably do it, I'm going to keep that as my backup plan.  However, my current feeling is that it might be a bit overkill to install a whole management pack, when all I want to do is monitor a single C drive on a single workstation.
The rest of the monitors in the management pack I wouldn't have any interest it.   Let me ask you a question maybe you will know the answer to... Shouldn't I be able to monitor that drive even without that management pack installed?   I
mean some combination of settings for the Logical Disk Space rule in that management pack works for computers/workstations.  Shouldn't I be able to reproduce that one single rule without the management pack?  Does anyone have that management pack
installed?  Could you possibly look at the Client OS Logical Disk Space rule and send me some screen shots or something?   Or am I missing something?  Is the management pack needed for other reasons in order to monitor this?

  • SCOM 2012 SNMP Trap - Does anyone have it working?

I am wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with getting SNMP Traps to be captured by SCOM 2012?  Probes work fine.
We have been unable to get SCOM 2012 to receive a SNMP Trap from network devices.  We currently have a case open with Microsoft, but they dont have any answers as of yet.
Here are the cliff notes version of what we have done so far.
    Discovery - OK
The nodes discover without issue.  I made sure they were set to SNMP only.  I did this to verify we were talking SNMP and not just ICMP.
    Open Ports/Firewall Issues
No firewalls are in place on the SCOM server and none exist between devices we are trying to get traps from.  Using a port tool, I can see that UDP 162 is listening as expected and its the System Center Management Host Process that is running the
process.  We have tried having SNMP installed, but disabled, installed and running, and uninstalled.  Currently we have the SNMP service installed and running.  The SNMP Trap Service is NOT installed.
    Data Validation
Using Wireshark running on the SCOM box I have been able to validate the OIDs we are searching for are hitting the SCOM server.  I installed an SNMP Trap generator and Receiver on my local machine as well as Jalasoft SNMP Simulator.  I was able
to discover my local machine as a network device and if I send a TRAP from the TRAP generator on my local machine to the receiver on my local machine I can validate the data is coming through ok.
What has been done on SCOM side
The simplest place to look for data is with an Event Collection Rule and then an Event View Monitor.  We have set up an Event Based Monitor to search for an OID that I know to be accurate and then I set up an Event monitor to look for
anything hitting that Collection Rule.  The Event monitor showed nothing so we changed the EVent Monitor to look for anything that hit Node which should show any SNMP traps that have hit from network devices.  No results.
We tried to run WFAnalyzer from the 2007R2 Authoring Console, but it wont run against 2012 and from what I have found the 2012 edition doesnt exist anywhere yet.
So has anyone succesfully received a SNMP TRAP into SCOM 2012?

How could you possibly mark this as answered? No answer was given, it was quiet for a couple of days including one of which was a holiday in the US. The previous steps are NOT helpful.  The question remains, Does anyone have it working?
People have given troubleshooting advice, but nobody has actually answered the simple question.  Do they have it actually WORKING?

  • Turn off the SQL DB monitoring entirely in scom 2012 (SP1)

Is there a way to centrally target and turn down monitoring of all the servers running SQL DB in SCOM 2012. We actually created groups using the OU's to target the SQL servers but some of the servers which have SQL DB are not in that OU and they are still
    triggering DB alerts.
Some of the alerts also include
Management Group: Ancestry Ops. Script: DiscoverSQL2012FileGroups.js : Cannot login to database [XXserver.domain.com][SQLD114B:model]
and these servers are in the OU but still trigerring this DB alert.
Any information about this ll be greatly useful.
    Thanks
    Hari V

Pretty much what Hopeless guy said.  I have scom 2007 in prod, so I use remove-disabledmonitoringobject after I override a discovery.   The issue is that these SQL dbs are still being discovered.  So if you want to disable sql monitoring
in total for them, override the seed discovery which will have a target of windows server/computer.  Then after the override is in palace execute the remove command from SCOM commandshell.  You then should scope to the class you want to disappear
(discovered inventory pane), and refresh every 15 min or so to see if they are being removed.  I have had to run the remove command a few times to clean some large discovered inventory up.

  • View Process Peak on SCOM 2012 Console

    Hi guys,
I need your help for the following question.
Is there any way to view in SCOM 2012 Console the process that generates a memory o disk peak on a monitored machine? Until now, only I can see an alert for the resource peak, but I can't identify the process that generates it.
    Regards,
    Rodrigo
