SCOM 2012 Service Level Dashboard

I have been tasked with creating a Service level dashboard for SCOM 2012. After reading up on various blogs and sites around methods and BI / reporting tools I am no closer to knowing what would be the best solution, and would appreciate some guidance.
I want to create SLO groups for applications - Exchange, AD, SQL, SCCM etc. and have a high level heat map with measures like CPU util, Disk space %, latency etc. updated every minute and displayed in each block (preferably using corners of a single block),
and if possible to add a bootstrap style icon into each block.
I would like drill down functionality on each group that then breaks down into another heatmap (per server).
And then to drill down further which displays a SLD type dashboard on that instance.
I am comfortable with creating the final level SLD using widgets, would it be possible to use Visio for the heatmaps ?
I have looked into using Power View, would conditional formatting be a better option ?
Id like to publish the dashboard into Sharepoint.
Would appreciate your feedback. Once i know which solution to look into, it would become much easier to focus my attention.

  • Service Level Report values not matching to Service Level Dashboard v 2.0 values

    Hi Experts,
We have installed SLD v2 on a development SQL server along with WSS 3.0. The SLD is pointed to the SCOM datawarehouseDB to collect the information to have it up in the dials.
We have SCOM 2007 R2 who's OpsMgrDB and OpsMgrDWDB are hosted on a SQL 2008 R2 instance.
I have created the Distributed application and added 3 Service level Tracking to it.

    Memory Utilization
The problem here i am facing is that the values in the dials on the SLD Home sites do not match with the values i get when i run the report for  Service Level Tracking Summary under reporting tab in Ops
    Console.
What could be probable reason for this ?

  • SCOM 2012 Open Custom Dashboard directly in Console

I wanted to display a dashboard on a big Screen .
I was looking for options and with the help i could find , we could open it using Web console on the TV , or Sharepoint Site or Visio diagram
then i found we could open the particular view directly using SCOM console (If it is installed)
    Using something like: Microsoft.MOM.UI.Console.exe /ViewName:View_f0e6e6d99131451985140cb5f020028e.
This is valid for SCOM 2007 R2
Is there an similar option for SCOM 2012, I want to to show a particular dashboard that we created using this method.
    I am following this article
    http://www.peppercrew.nl/index.php/2011/04/scom-open-view-direct-in-console/

I tried this $mg.GetMonitoringViews() | where {$_.displayname -like "*My Distributed
    App*" | select Name
However i am not able to fetch the Distributed Application view that i created.
Is distributed application different from View. I somehow aint able to find it when using the Powershell or SQL
I even tried to fetch from SQl Database as well  using http://www.peppercrew.nl/index.php/2011/04/scom-open-view-direct-in-console/

  • No Data In SCOM 2012 R2 VM Dashboards

We just applied CU3 for SCOM 2012 R2. We also imported the management packs for the new SCVMM Dashboards. How long should it take before we get data displayed in these new dashboards, 'Virtual Machine Dashboard' and 'VMM Host Dashboard' ?
    Orange County District Attorney

    Hi,
Based on my understanding, your issue is that you have import SCVMM management pack, under Monitoring workspace on Operation console, under the management pack, you cannot see data under the two dashboard.
It is suggested to make sure those objects are discovered already, and then check whether those corresponding rules are enabled.
And it is alway recommended to look into the management pack guide before using it.

  • Dashboard Downtime - Uptime SCOM 2012

    Hello
I have SCOM 2012 installed. The principal functions it is able to monitor the uptime and downtime of Windows 2012 R2 servers (Exchange - Lync - Hyper-V) on a Dashboard and have SLA in Datacenter Monitor.
Is possible may have a Dashboard with real-time measurements (Downtime - Uptime) in SCOM and also SLO Dashboard?
I create a SLA Tracking and shutdown a host for 2 hours was always 100% the Dashboard.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
When you are creating Service level tracking, please chose Windows operating system as the targeted class, and then create a service level dashboard to add the created SLA, you may get the downtime and uptime information.

  • Can overrides from SCOM 2007 R2 be used in a new SCOM 2012 R2 installation?

    Hi All,
I'm wondering if we can "easily" use our overrides/configuration from our current SCOM 2007 R2 implementation and use them in a new SCOM
2012 R2 environment that we plan on standing up.  We are using SCOM to monitor approx. 400 servers (physical and virtual).
We have been using 2007 R2 for a few years and we'd like to start using 2012 R2.  Instead of using the update path (2007 R2 to 2012
to 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2), we are planning on setting up a new 2012 R2 environment and configuring our servers to start reporting to 2012 R2 (after it has been configured in such a way as to "mimic" our 2007 R2 environment).
Ideally, we'd like to avoid going through the upgrade path.  (We'll leave our 2007 R2 environment running so that we can still access "historical
data" until the new 2012 R2 environment has had a chance to build up its own "historical data".)
So ... I was thinking we could export our overrides from 2007 R2 and import them into 2012 R2, but I'd like to verify that this approach makes
sense.  We haven't done extensive customizations to 2007 R2 in terms of Distributed Applications or Management Pack Objects (although we have made some changes - which I guess we could manually configure in 2012 R2 to offer the same "experience").
The following are some of the Management Packs that we are using in 2007 R2:
    Microsoft Windows Active Directory
    Active Directory Certificate Services
    EMC Storage Monitoring
    IBM Hardware
    Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
    McAfee

I appreciate all feedback and the sharing of you expertise.

As long as the base pack works and you wish to retain the customisation then you should be ok, there’s a good article
here which explains how to perform the migration and some of implication/things to check.
There will be complications if you’ve stored anything in the default mp but this is explained in the above article.

No, you will need to create Maps for SCOM 2012 R2 by Dashboards. you can't do it through SharePoint by .html

  • Service Availability Report in SCOM 2012

Hi, we are having SCOM 2012 SP1 and need a report on Service Availability for the below services running on the servers
    Active Directory
    DFS
    DNS
    PKI
    DHCP
Also, would like to understand how the SCOM would report the service availability when there are network issues (primarily WAN Issues) preventing the SCOM Server from reaching the server Hosting the service.
    Thanks,
    Naren.
    Thanks & regards, Naren.

    Hi,
In order to generate reports on the services you mentioned, you need to go through two steps for starters.
    1. You need to create Distributed Applications for the services (Active Directory excluded since that DA is already created when importing the AD MP) see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh457612.aspx for how it can be done.
    2. You also need to create SLA´s (Service Level Tracking in the Authoring pane of the console) see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh230719.aspx
The behaviour can somehow be modified since you decide what should count as donwtime when creating your SLA. However, a server which become unreachable would most likely be classified as critical and therefore it would "bring down" your service
    in SCOM.
Once you have created the DA´s you want, you can use the default report "Service Level Tracking Summary" Report under the category "Microsoft Service Level Report Library". Here, you can choose to go back to a certain time to display
your SLA levels. Be aware though, you can never go futher back than to the date where you created the DA and the SLA since that´s when the availability starts measuring.

    Daniel

  • SCOM 2012 Installation does not show the SQL Server Instance for reporting services

I have an issue when I try to install SCOM 2012 with the Reporting Server feature, so in the step that I have to select a SQL Server Instance I cannot do that, because as you can see in the picture no one option appears.
In my scenario I have a DCSERVER, SQLSERVER2008 R2, SCCMSERVER 2012 and in other server I are trying to install SCOM 2012. I are trying to use the same SQLSERVER to SCOM 2012.
Should I do other procedure on SQL Server before to continue? I will apreciate someone could say me what I need to do to resolve this issue.
    Regards,
    Paul Mendoza.

    Hi Paul
Can you confirm that SQL Reporting Services is installed on the server that you are doing the install.
For a lab environment where you have SCOM Management Server, Web Server on one server and SQL Server on another you need to:
    - run setup on the SCOM Server and choose NOT to install reporting. The install here will create the OperationsManager database and OperationsManagerDW (reporting) database.
    - run setup on the SQL Server where SQL Reporting Services is installed. Then choose to install reporting. You should then see the SQL Reporting Services instance on the above window which is blank in your screenshot.
Take note of the warning in that window - SCOM uses its own role based security within SQL Reporting Services and this can break other reporting. E.g. you can't install SCOM and SCSM reporting (SQL RS component) together.
    Cheers
    Graham

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Reporting services installation error - data reader account

I have successfully installed SCOM 2012 R2 and SQL 2012 SP1 on the same server. I was trying to install the reporting server piece of SCOM.
When I get to the part that asks for a domain account, I get this error:
"Data Reader account provided is not same as that in the management server"
The account is not the same as the management server, and it does have read access to the data warehouse and reporting databases. Is there some other permission this account needs for reporting services?
    Thanks.

    Adding more info:
I usually create the following account for SQL:
AD accounts for the following to be used with SQL Services:
SQL Agent for SQL Server Agent
SQL Analysis Services for SQL Server Analysis
SQL Database Engine for SQL Server Database Engine
SQL Reporting Services for SQL Server Reporting Services
For SCOM I create the following accounts:
SCOM DR - Used to deploy reports
SCOM DWR - for writing data from the management server to the reporting DW
SCOM MSA - Performs default actions
SCOM SDK - Used for updating/reading information from the operations Manager Database - Needs to be local administrator on the SCOM server

  • Errors installing SCOM 2012 Reporting Services

I've run into an issue installing SCOM2012 Reporting Services, that I can't seem to figure out. I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 SSRS local to the SCOM server using an instance name of SCOM. I created the databases for this on another server (SQL server
2008 R2 SP2) during the SSRS configuration. All from SSRS looks fine, and shows the scale out join, all good. I can browse to the reports page, add folders, all that normal stuff. I added the domain\datareader and datawriter accounts as SSRS admins in the
site security, as well as ensured they are sysadmin in SQL, and local admins on the SQL and SCOM servers. So, all looks good. Until I go to add reporting services to SCOM 2012. It fails to complete, and the log shows:
[12:28:36]: Warn: :Message:SRSPolicySetter SoapException Exception: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: An error occurred when invoking the authorization extension. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AuthorizationExtensionException:

at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005.GetRoleProperties(String Name, Task[]& Tasks, String& Description). Will retry..
I then look in the SSRS logs, and see:
    library!ReportServer_0-1!89c!08/12/2013-12:28:34:: Call to GetRolePropertiesAction(Browser).
    library!ReportServer_0-1!89c!08/12/2013-12:28:36:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AuthorizationExtensionException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AuthorizationExtensionException: An error occurred when

(Fault Detail is equal to Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Common.UnauthorizedAccessMonitoringException:
The user domain\DataReader does not have sufficient permission to perform the operation.).
So, I'm at a loss. That user is a sysadmin in SQL, has been added to the SSRS security for site and folder with full permissions, has been added to the SSRS databases specifically, and is a local administrator on both the SSRS/SCOM server and the SQL server.
What am I missing here folks? The SSRS is then completely hosed, and no longer works either. So, I have to uninstall and reinstall to even try again. This is getting frustrating.
    Please help! :)
    Thanks in advance,
    mpleaf

After many google searches, and a lot of security changes, I think I found the right now that finally cured the issue. I had to add my datareader account to the Operations Manager Administrators in SCOM User Roles, and then it seemed to go through just fine.
