  • SCOM 2012 - Additional Management Server - Database not Found (no errors)

    Hello,
I am installing a second management server (SCOM 2012) and am running into an issue connecting to the existing database.
I selected Add a Management server to an existing management group.
On the installer page Configuration/Configure the Operational Database, I enter the sql server name (fqdn) just as I did on the first management server (i took screenshots of the entire install so I could verify what I am
doing). Then the installer takes over for a second to verify the server information.  There are no errors but the Database Name is blank, no choices in the drop down, nothing auto-populated.
If I put an incorrect server name in there is an error (as is expected).  The port I am connecting on is the same one as the first management server: 1433.
The servers are both running Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit).  They were both created from the same template at the same time.
I used the ODBC Data Source Administrator to test a connection to the SQL server from the Additional Management Server and the test completed successfully.
I checked in the Operations Console to see if there was an entry in the Management Servers list for this second server and there is only the First management server listed there.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions as to how I can see the database names when the server conneciton is not failing.  Thanks in advance.
    Zach

    Hi,
Are the accounts permissions correct? Are you using the same account you used installing the first management server and is it a local admin on the 2nd management server?
If all the above can be answered with yes please check if the 2nd management server is already known inside OpsMgr. If it is delete it from here and try again.
You can also check the OpsMgrSetup.log for more detailed information.
Your problem might be a known one:

    Hi all,
Two weeks ago we've setup a new SCOM 2012 R2 environment.
We now have the problem that event 26319 is logged every 5 minutes.
An exception was thrown while processing GetUserRolesForOperationAndUser for session ID uuid:dca9765e-37a4-40fc-bb9e-575f278447f9;id=63.

In the previous weeks I've imported some management packs and did some changes in the user roles.
I've now deleted all custom created user roles but the event is still being logged.
Where does the 'Value does not fall within the expected range.'

Is this related to a imported MP ? I've deleted the built-in administrator user and replaced it by an admin group.
Where do I start to troubleshoot this issue ?
    Kind Regards,

Yes, it's related to import MP.
For this issue,  KB980862 - Event ID 26319 is logged when you import a management pack in Operations Manager 2007 R2

  • SCOM 2012 Operations Manager Failed to start a process

We have recently upgraded from SCOM 2007 to SCOM 2012. We are not getting a great deal of “Operations Manager Failed to start a process”. The process varies including:
    DiscoverSQL2008ASDiscovery.vbs
    DiscoverSQL2008DBEngineDiscovery.vbs
    DiscoverSQL2008ASDiscovery.vbs
    Microsoft.Windows.Server.NetwokAdapter.BandwidthUsed.ModuleType.vbs
I have researched and researched. I know that you can try to run the scripts locally on the machine but it seems the scripts never make it to the machine. I go to the path in the error, no luck. I look in the other folders as I know that SCOM moves the scripts,
and I even search the entire C drive but the scripts are not getting to the server. The folder is not even making it. For example:
    Command executed: "C:\Windows\system32\cscript.exe" /nologo "Microsoft.Windows.Server.NetwokAdapter.BandwidthUsed.ModuleType.vbs" SERVER true Working Directory: C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager\Agent\Health Service State\Monitoring
    Host Temporary Files 11606\1759\
The script is not there and the folder \1759 is not there either.
I have removed and reinstalled the client.
Antivirus is fine, up to date and not blocking on any of the machines.
I have stopped the “System Center Management service” and renamed the “Health Service State” folder and it recreates fine but not long after I get the warning in SCOM about “Operations Manager Failed to start a process”.
I look in event viewer for Operations Manager on this particular one and I see a lot of:
Performance data from the Health Service could not be collected since required registry keys could not be read, the error was 2L (The system cannot find the file specified.). Event ID 6001.
    I tried the fix of
"lodctr MOMConnectorCounters.ini" and "lodctr HealthServiceCounters.ini" but I get “error
encountered while updating text in registry. Status: 0”. Again I am using SCOM 2012.
Do I need to look at each failed script or is there a overall issue because the scripts are not making it to the machines. Any ideas?

I guess you might need to run "mofcomp sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof".
    Thanks, S K Agrawal

    Hi,
I think if there is any Management Pack for IBM Tivoli, then this Management Pack should be provided by IBM, and this may be fee-based also, I would like to suggest you contact IBM for this.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Management Servers and SQL Server Availability Groups

My team is in the middle of rolling out a brand new install of System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2.
I have set up a SQL Server Availability group that is spread across multiple subnets and installed the initial management server per
    here.
As I have gone through attaching new management servers, I have noticed disturbing behavior.  When the AG fails over to another node, the management servers will lose connectivity unless I either recycle the service or it fails back to the original
node.  This is not a security issue as I have set up permissions.  It says it cannot connect to the database anymore at all.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?  Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Manage DPM servers, running DPM jobs, etc from SCOM 2012 SP1

    Hi,
    Little background about our systems.
We have a dedicated SCOM 2012.
We have 22 DPM servers, DPM 2010 and DPM 2012 (we are upgrading to 2012 SP1, we have customers that still using Windows 2003 servers) to be managed by SCOM
We have a few DPM servers that are not located on the same domain as the SCOM server (untrusted domain).
    Some problem we have
    1. When we try to manage the DPM servers from the SCOM server.
From SCOM 2012 server I can “Manage DPM server” that are located in our domain but I cannot manage DPM servers located on untrusted domains (customer’s domains). I receive the below error message
"Unable to connect to <untrusted domain DPM SERVER> ID: 948
Verify that the DPM service is running on this computer"
I guess it’s because the account that I’m using to run SCOM server located in our domain and does not have the permission to open the DPM console on the untrusted domain. So I wonder if it is possible to use “RUN AS profiles/accounts”
to solve this issue, and how?
    2. I have installed SCOM 2012 Operations Manager Console on my computer and then installed DPM Central Console.
When I select one dpm server (from my computer), that is on our domain, and then click “Manage DPM server” I got this error message
"Unable to connect to <our domain DPM SERVER> ID: 33333
    1. Verify that the DPM service is running on this computer (YES)
    2. Verify that the current user has been added to at least one of the roles in Operations Manager. (YES)
    3. Open Operations Manage console and then try launching the DPM Console (THAT IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO)
    4. If you have re-imported the management pack recently, the role configuration may be corrupt. Open the DPM-specific roles and check if the roles have task assigned to them. If not, delete the roles and recreate the...."
When I click on “Get more information” I get this error message.
"You don´t have access permission to connect to the System Center Data Access service on <SCOM SERVER>. Please check if it is a permission issue".....
Do you know why I cannot connect to any DPM server on our own domain?
Why do I get access permission error on my computer but not on the SCOM server (using the same account)?
What should we do to be able to connect to DPM servers that are on untrusted domain?
    3. Is it possible to see Last Recovery Point date/time in SCOM alerts?
For me it is the first thing I look at. If it has failed 10 min ago it is not critical.
But if it is a date and time more than 1 day old, then it is critical.
I hope someone can help us with this
    Br
    SvBoho

    Hi,
To manager DPM, I think we may need to add the account to local admin group of the DPM server.
In addition, to connect to DPM the user needs permissions to DPM/SQL Server DPMDB.
For your DCs, have your enabled agent proxy option? If not, please enable that option for all DCs.
To monitor DPM with SCOM, please also go through the below links:

sql server 2008 r2 and one MS server on DR site

    Hi,
Additional to dktoa’s reply, I would like to explian Resource pools are a new concept in Operations Manager 2012. When two or more management servers are added to a management group, the management servers automatically become part of a resource pool and
work is spread across all the members included in it. If one of the resource pool management servers fails, other management servers in the resource pool take over the workload, thus delivering an out-of-box highly available design.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Upgrade Plan Discussion

    Dear Experts,
Currently I have a RMS and one MS Server with SCOM 2007 R2 in my Test Environment (Windows 2008 R2).
Now, The Upgradation plan is below and please correct me if I am wrong.
    SCOM 2007 R2 CU4 --> SCOM 2012
    SCOM 2012  --> SCOM 2012 SP1
    SCOM 2012 SP1 --> SCOM 2012 R2.
So we need to purchase of three types of SCOM 2012 versions S/W or else we can simply download those versions from Microsoft ?
Please provide me the complete process of this Migration cycle.
    Saravana Raja

    Hi Saravana:
Upgrading to System Center 2012 – Operations Manager is supported from Operations Manager 2007 R2 CU4, or from the latest available CU. See
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh476934.aspx.
As for upgrading from SCOM 2012 to SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 R2, MVP Marnix Wolf is clear that you need to perform each upgrade step separately:
http://thoughtsonopsmgr.blogspot.com/2013/07/upgrade-paths-to-system-center-2012-r2.html. The "complete process" would consists of performing the upgrade for each version one after the other, again, just as you put in your plan.
You do not need to purchase any additional software, but you will need to download the 3 versions as you described from Microsoft volume license site or other media source.

  • Connected Management Groups

I'm currently reviewing a design that has multiple management groups (for scale), with a root management group containing
no agents or devices at all, but simply connecting to each of the other groups using CMG's.
It's my understanding that data does not traverse through CMG's.   It simply allows a single unified view of the alert data of each CMG, so I'm confused as to why you would have this root MG, and all it's supporting infrastructure (OpsDB, DW DB etc)
when there's no agents at all.
Wouldn't you just have the other MG's (all containing agents) in a CMG configuration, i.e connecting to a single 'local MG' that also has agents.
    Cheers,
    E

    Hi,
Connected management groups enable the consolidation of alerts and the running of tasks from multiple management groups. Tasks can be initiated from a local management group to run on managed objects of a connected management group. This scenario is used
to scale up the number of managed computers or objects you can monitor beyond the capabilities of a single management group.
The management group in which the data is consolidated is called the local management group, and those that contribute their data to the local management group are called the connected management groups. They relate to each other in a hierarchical fashion,
with connected groups reporting up to local groups. The connected groups are in a peer-to-peer relationship with each other. Each connected group has no visibility or interaction with the other connected groups; the visibility is strictly from the local management
group to the connected management group.
