SCOM 2012 unable to monitor servers
I have build a SCOM 2012 POC, post sql & SCOM installation am not able to monitor any servers.
I have added servers for agent monitoring. I had tried importing few management packs also. but i dont servers in the any monitoring alerts views. i have waited for 2 or 3 days too but unable to see any servers.
Please suggest me what are the must have management packs for SCOM 2012 for windows 2008 and 2012 monitoring.
Do we need to patch or install any hotfix for this to work am not sure..
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
ndraj
1) check whether those server is under scom monitoring: operations console --> administration worksace --> Device Management --> Agent Managed --> whether you see your server is under this view and its health state is healthy(Green check mark)
2) monitoring Windows Server 2008 and 2012: you should download
System Center Managment pack for Windows Server Operatng System, its current version is 6.0.7061.0.
3) Run as account: specify credentials for specific computers
4) Run as profile: When a workflow requires rights and privileges that the default action account cannot provide, the workflow can be written to use a Run As profile. A Run As profile can have multiple Run As accounts associated with it.

SCOM 2012 unable to monitor SNMP traps
After installing SCOM 2012 I did not
get the SNMP Trap. I tried the solution
of the topics http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/6826f6a6-bbc3-444b-9b18-288d7fedac3e Nothing
has helped.
Help please, why SCOM can
not take Traps? We had the an issue where device was sending SNMP v1 traps as per Wireshark but the device was discovered as a SNMP v2 device. We forced the device to be discovered as a SNMP v1 device and that worked.
To do so, after you add the device that needs to be discovered within the discovery rule, export the MP called Network Discovery Internal. Open this in notepad and browse to the IP address of your device that needs to be discovered. Change the value for
"AutoDetect" to v1 in case you want to discover his as a V1 DEVICE. Then you will be able to receive traps from the said device that got discovered.
<SeedSystem>
<SeedIPorName>10.100.x.x</SeedIPorName>
<Version>AUTODETECT</Version>
<SNMPPort>161</SNMPPort>
</SeedSystem>
Hope this helps.

SCOM 2012 SP1/R2 Monitoring of IBM Bladecenter doesn´t work
We tried the IBM Hardware Management Pack 4.0 and 4.5 and configured everything according to the guide. The Bladecenter is discovered correctly but we dont get any health data or Module Information. It´s almost the same as in this thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/ceda483b-9500-4831-869c-4b3d0f178924/cant-get-scom-2012-sp1-to-monitor-ibm-bladecenter?forum=operationsmanagerdeployment
But this problem was resolved through rediscovering the Bladecenter with SNMP v1 or v2 instead of v3 which we did right from the start. We had this Problem with SCOM 2012 SP1 and IBM HMP 4.0/4.5. Since then we upgraded to SCOM 2012 R2 and IBM HMP 4.5 and
ist still the same issue. Everything else works fine like the Hardware Management Packs for various IBM Storage etc...
Thank you.Hi,
Do you mean the issue is gone after you rediscover the blade center with SNMP v1 and v2? If so, I will record this.

Hi,
I need to configure different windows services alerts in SCOM 2012. Below are some of the windows services I need to monitor through SCOM.
Serivce: Windows Management Instrumentation
Service: Netlogon
Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Service: Server Service
Service: Terminal Services
Service: Windows Time
Service: Workstation
Service : WWW Publishing Service
Could some one please assist or share me the details, how to configure these services for windows agent servers.
Thanks..
Regards, Rajeev ParambilHi,
A certain set of services are monitored by default on all agents:
DNS Client
DHCP Client
RPC
Workstation
Server
For all the other services you could create a service monitor.
A nice blog series outlining this process can be found here: http://www.bictt.com/blogs/bictt.php/2011/03/16/scom-monitoring-a-service-part1
It's doing common things uncommonly well that brings succes. Check out my SCOM link blog:

SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 management servers grey state
Hi,
My SCOM environment is made up of the below :-
SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4.
3 SCOM Management Servers all on Windows 2008 R2 SP1.
Shared SQL 2008 cluster with 2 Windows nodes also on same OS.
Just recently all our SCOM management servers have been flipping in and out from grey to green state. Gateways/agents all look ok as showing green. Alerting from agents appears normal as can see lots of them in console.
Have flushed the health state cache folder on all 3 SCOM MS's and still the same issue.
Appreciate any help on this one.Event id: 7011 - Was your server recently patched (Installed by any automatic updates) ?
IS SCCM Configured in your MS? If Yes disable and check?
Is Windows update service running ? Stop if for one or two days and check if this issue still appears

For Event id 20026 -
1. Does your Operationsmanager database have enough space ? Check that first.
What is you DB size ?
How much is the free space left ?
2. Was there any resent change in the SCOM Action accoutn password ? Or has the password expired. Try re entering the SCOM Action password by re directing your self to Administration tab --> Run as Config -- > Accounts --> SCOM Action account.
The description would be - This is the user account under which all rules run by default on the agent.
Right click and go to properties and re enter the account name and password there and check.

Suggest to re enter the action account password and tell the results.

SCOM 2012 Get Gray Management Servers With PowerShell
Hi,
I have SCOM 2012 R2.
I want to get all the Management Servers that are in Gray state using powershell. How can I do that?
I couldn't find anything good in the internet.
The best I got was Get-SCOMManagementServer but when I tested it out - it still showed that my gateway's HealthState was "Success" even though it was gray.
Thanks,

i can't get alerts related to SQL Server 2012 in scom 2012 but i install management pack and applied it.
1)Please check whether SQL server is discovered by SCOM. You can use Monitoring workspace --> Microsoft SQL Server --> Computers to check
2) Make sure that the following action account has required right SQL discovery Account, SQL default action Account and SQL monitoring Account

I creat a specific management pack juste for the rule and the views.
SNMP Monitoring - CISOC 2960 => It's OK, I can have the processor state, utilization, etc ...
SNMP Monitoring Ubuntu computer => It's OK, I can have all the state I want.
SNMP Traps => The switch or the computer send traps over the network, and I can see in wireshark, the server receive the traps
SNMP Service (Windows service) => Disabled
SNMP trap (Windows service) => Disabled
Health Service (Windows service) => Enabled
Port 162 UDP => Open and listenning by the MonitoringHost.exe
Firewall rules => Everythinks is OK
SNMP Trap send version is => 2c
SNMP Monitoring device version is => 2c

Do you know a workaround? Or a different way to catch all the traps from a network device and show them (traps) on a event views.
Thank you in advance.

Computer expert system technologyHello Yan Li,
I read your link, and I found this :
The network devices must be discovered and registered as ICMPSNMP devices.
And when I make the dicovery the first time, ICMP doesn't work, so I put only SNMP. This morning I tried with ICMP and SNMP, but the same problem come to me. And I found the rootcause of the problem with this post : http://www.code4ward.net/main/Blog/tabid/70/EntryId/105/Troubleshooting-Network-Discovery-in-SCOM-2012.aspx
I allowed the SNMP service, ping, and Health Service, just after I try a second time to dicover my device and it's work (ICMP and SNMP).
I recreat all my management pack and the rule. And now it's work! Thank you very much for your help!!
Have a nice day
Best regards

SCOM 2012 client movement between Management servers
Hi all,
I know In SCOM 2012 sp1 all management servers are peers , if I have five management servers ( A, B, C, D,E ) and 2 gateway servers ( F, G ) . One client is assigned to A management server , in case if that management server down , to which management servers
or Gateway server that particular client will move any rule.
Thanks,
Sengottuvel MBy default, "the first available management server". There is a black-box algorithm that works behind the scenes in terms of agent failover selection. The only way to control this is to set agent failover lists, and this is only possible via the command
shell (powershell) - but it's relatively easy to do.
Here are a couple interesting articles about the topic:
http://blog.scomskills.com/agent-managementlist-primary-and-failover-configuration/
http://blogs.technet.com/b/jonathanalmquist/archive/2009/11/11/set-failover-management-server-for-gateway-role.aspx
...and there are probably 100 other blog posts talking about the same thing.

All agentless monitored servers showing same percent memory used
I have 13 servers that are managed agentless via a proxy agent on the gateway server. I do this as when I had them set up to use the agent, the agent was consuming too much CPU on the servers. So, all appears to be fine, it is pulling in the percent CPU
usage and such, and recognizes the OS version and what not. The issue I have, is I set up a dashboard with a performance widget to track the percent memory used. All of my agentless monitored servers show the same percentage, and the percentage is also much
higher than what I see on the actual servers. So, it appears that there may be some form of roll up or something on the agentless servers, or it's taking the highest from the group, or I'm not drilling into the right counter or something. I have two widgets,
one that is performance and one that is performance object. The performance one grabs the object "Memory", counter of "PercentMemoryUsed", with no performance instance selected (although I have also tried "all"). The performance
object widget selects the same performance counter (Memory / PercentMemoryUsed /) and again have also tried "all" there as well. This allows the performance widget to graph/show the last value and maximum value, while the performance object shows
me the average sorted from highest to lowest. I have another server that is agent managed in the same list, that shows what appears to be accurate information...and there is also a performance counter for cpu usage that appears to have accurate data for all
of the above (agent and agentless). So, why am I seeing this issue with my agentless servers?

Hello Gurus
I have a quick question. I have a SCOM server that is giving me weird errors, I have already posted the question at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/b034c553-c1b9-4152-bb77-d9a29906d25c/scom-2012-r2-network-monitoring-error?forum=operationsmanagergeneral#b034c553-c1b9-4152-bb77-d9a29906d25c
but no answers :(
I would have loved to troubleshoot the error but since time is running out, I am thinking maybe to re-install the server. Every other component of SCOM is working, so I was wondering, is it possible for me to keep the other settings and configuration of
SCOM in the new SCOM installation. I want to retain the following specifically:
Management pack and their customization
The workgroup server management certificate
Server inventory
Overrides
Reporting and analysis service
Web console configuration
Account and run as profile configuration.
Alternatively, I am okay if I can only get rid of the network device inventory from the database. I believe the issues that I am facing are because of rogue records of network devices in the database. I am okay with removing them and starting the discovery
of the network devices again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,Verify that SNMP open in core switch to Management Server {#snmp-server community "Password" username}and verify from string community (case sensitive)
If not worked, Delete Network Device and reconfigure it again
To Delete Network Device, follow the below steps
In the Discovery Rules option under the Administration Tab, you will be able to see all the network devices that are discovered. This shows the devices that are discovered and currently getting monitored in SCOM. You can select multiple devices and then
remove them.
Then Run in powershell Get-RemotelyManagedDevice to check that all Network devices deleted.
you can also check below link to remove/restore network device

Is there a matrix showing the difference with features of agent vs. agentless in SCOM 2012?
Agent monitoring requires an agent installation on the target machine
Agentless monitoring
An agentless-managed computer is a Windows-based computer that is discovered by using the Operations console. You assign an management server or agent-managed computer to provide remote (proxy) agent functionality for the computers.
Agentless-managed computers are managed as if there is an agent installed on them. Not all management packs work in agentless mode.
