SCOM Gateway Server Upgrade from 2012 SP1 to R2
Hi,
I am upgrading our SCOM environment from 2012 SP1 to R2. But unable to upgrade the Gateway Server. The installation of R2 setup stops with error message: "The operation manager gateway can't be installed on a computer on which the Operation Manager
management server, Operations Console, operational database, web console, agent, System Center Essentials, or System Center Service Manager is already installed."
I checked none of the above component is installed on the gateway server. Please suggest what is the issue?
Regards,
Daya Ram
Hi,
Have you followed the steps below to upgrade a gateway server:
Log on to a computer that hosts the gateway server with an Operations Manager Administrators role account for your Operations Manager management group.
On the Operations Manager media, run Setup.exe.
In the Optional Installations area, click Gateway management server.
On the Welcome to the System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager Gateway Upgrade Wizard page, click
Next.
On the The wizard is ready to begin gateway upgrade page, click
Upgrade.
On the Completing the System Center 2012 - Operations Manager Gateway Setup wizard page, click
Finish.
You may check below directory:
C:\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager

Hello,
We are planning to upgrade our SCCM 2012 SP1 VM to R2. We are a small environment with 200 clients and run everything on the same VM. Currently installed is
- Windows Server 2012
- SQL Server 2012 SP1
- Windows Assesement and Deployment Kit 8.1-
- SCCM 2012 SP1 Build 7804.1000 - no CU is installed
We would like to upgrade to R2 and also use the opportunity to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 and install the latest SP for SQL 2012 Server.
Is there a particular order we need to follow? First to upgrade the OS? Pay special attention of something?
We will make first a snapshot before performing the upgrade.
Thanks,
Edy
Edy from SwitzerlandFollow Gerry's guide and you'll be fine.
Here's my take on the upgrade if you want a second opinion
http://sccmentor.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/sccm-2012-sp1-cu1-to-r2-cu1-in-place-upgrade/
Both guides are missing the most important part (that's why it might be dangerous to follow next-next-finish-guides): you should always test the upgrade of the database (on a copy; using /testdbupgrade) before installing a service pack or R release!
The official documentation does contain that step:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/464a3ce6-3bbf-45d8-aeaa-0040f64214c5#BKMK_UpgradeR2Checklist ("Test the database upgrade process on a copy of the most recent site database backup.")

Upgrade from 2012 to 2012 R2 just quits
Hello,
We have the task to upgrade a physical server HP DL360 G6. It is running Windows 2012 Datacenter with Hyper-V role and the target is to do in-place upgrade to Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter.

Based on your description, we need to make sure all VMs have been shutdown before doing the upgrade.

Can you search the DataProtectionManager-KB2751230.log from the bottom up for the string: InstallExecute. Return value 3.
The real cause of the failure will be right above that.

Certificate Template - SCOM Gateway Server
Hi
I am using AD Domain level 2003 in my organization. Is there any particular requirement for certificate template to provide authentication between SCOM Management server and SCOM Gateway server.
I tried a lot but I am getting authentication issues.
Any solution would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Upgrading SCVMM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2
Please forgive me I've missed something obvious, but I have yet to see any documentation on how to upgrade SCVMM 2012 SP1 to the just-released R2. Running the setup detects that two components are already installed on the machine (the server management console)
and doesn't appear to present any upgrade options. The version its detecting as installed is SP1, not R2.
What's the upgrade process? Is there a document that discusses the 2012 SP1 -> R2 upgrade?
ThanksUpgrading to Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2
VMM also does not support in-place upgrade. You have to uninstall VMM and retain the database. Before uninstalling VMM first uninstall any Update Rollup if you have such. After uninstalling VMM, ADK (Windows Assessment and Deployment Toolkit) 8.0 also have
to be uninstalled. Before starting the VMM 2012 R2 installation you have to install ADK
8.1. After VMM 2012 R2 installation is easy. You have to point a few settings, the installation will detect that you want to make upgrade to existing database and after a few minutes you will be upgrade to R2. After successful upgrade you need to start
the console and update your VMM agents also.

SNMP Monitoring behind SCOM Gateway Server
Hi All
Is it possible to monitor Network devices / SNMP that sit behind a SCOM Gateway server? If so, how do these get discovered?
I have a need to monitor devices like HP printers, WAP, JetDirect cards, EPOS equipment etc. on a site that doesn't have SCOM on-premise.
Are there any limitations to this?
ThanksHi,
Yes, it is possible. when you create discovery, you may specify that it should run from gateway server.
On the device you want to monitor, set your SNMP public community string to point to the IP address of the SCOM Gateway server. In the SCOM Administration console, choose Network Devices in the Discovery Managment Wizard choose network device and click next.
In the next screen enter the IP address of the network device you want to monitor and under the mangment server drop down choose the gateway server who’s IP you entered in the SNMP string earlier.
Here is a similar thread for you reference:

In addition, you may check is there any management pack for your devices and import them into your management group.

Issue while Upgrading vmm 2012 sp1 to vmm 2012 R2
Hi,
We are trying to upgrade the vmm setup to 2012 r2 ,we retained the existing vmm database
While upgrading to vmm 2012 r2 , got the below warning message:
"The VMM database contains one or more services in a failed state. Upgrading to VMM in System Center 2012 R2 is not recommended. Retry the upgrade after you have reinstalled VMM for System Center 2012 SP1 and repaired or removed these services. Click
Cancel to exit the upgrade."
Tried to find the bug using the vmm logs file like
errlevel
setupwizard
vmmserver
In erlevel log, the entry was "0".
Any idea what the issue is????1. You just need CU3 - these are cumulative
2. Sure, you can take a temporary snapshot. You need to take a SQL backup also.
3. Don't forget to test the upgrade process on a copy of your site database (use /testdbupgrade)
This guide may help you

Hi All
I am having an issue related with my LAB Gateway server with SCOM 2012 SP1
I am having 2 Management server and 3 gateway server in my LAB. Now I am trying to install a new Gateway server. But its not showing in Management server list. Its showing as a SCOM Client. have any one faced this issue or any idea.
Your earlier response is appreciated.Hi,
Whether the gateway server is listed under pending management, if it is, try to remove it from here before running the approval.
Please also go through the below similar thread for more details:
SCOM 2012 R2 Gateway installation error and no System Center Management server after install
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ce6d0a73-c31d-4c26-85d4-d3cce35d48c3/scom-2012-r2-gateway-installation-error-and-no-system-center-management-server-after-install?forum=operationsmanagerdeployment
Please follow the below steps:
1) Validate that the gateway server can ping the Management Server that it will need to communicate with and can telnet to port 5723. Also validate that the OpsMgr Management Server can ping the Gateway server. If traffic doesn’t route between these systems,
or they cannot resolve each others names, or they cannot communicate on port 5723 the Gateway will not function.
2) Install the gateway server from the OpsMgr media (Gateway management server).
When installing, choose the Management Server that we have determined will be the primary Management Server for gateway servers in the environment and configure the gateway to run as local system.
3) Next if required in the OpsMgr console we delete the agent from pending management if it appears in that view.
4) Perform the approval of the gateway by transferring the Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.GatewayApprovalTool.exe from the installation media to the appropriate path to run it from (c:\program files\System Center Operations Manager 2012\Server is the default
location)

SQL Server Configuration Manager (2012 SP1): "IP All" Setting Not Saving
I have 4 SQL Server 2012 SP1 clusters, and under Network Configuration ->
TCP/IP -> Protocol (tab), I am able to switch
Listen All from Yes to No. However, when I hit
OK (or Apply), I get the message:
Any changes made will be saved; however they will not take effect until the service is stopped and restarted.
OK, fine.
Now, if I re-open the TCP/IP properties, Listen All is back to
Yes.
This happens even after I restart the SQL Server service, and it happens on all 4 instances.
I have checked the version of Configuration Manager - 2011.0110.2100.060. I've compared this with a (non clustered) SQL Server 2012 where I can flip the
IP All field at whim, the versions are the same (as are the SQL Server versions,
11.0.3000.0 Build 7601).
I've also ensured that under IP Addresses, the one that I want to use has
Enabled = Yes, all other IPs have Enabled = No.
Neither BOL nor Google have any useful information for me.
Has anyone seen this before? Bug or WAD (and I'm doing something wrong)?Hi,
Per
Case 4: SQL Server is installed in a clustered environment:
On cluster, you cannot configure SQL Server to listen on a specific IP addresses. You must chose IPALL. The IP addresses on which the cluster instance will be listening on is determined by cluster resources (configurable through Cluster Administrator,
by adding IP Address resources under SQL Network Name resource).
Here is a workaround:

Upgrade from Windows2008R2 SP1 standard to Windows2008R2 Enterprise
HI
Like the title, I want to upgrade server from Windows2008R2 SP1 standard to Windows2008R2(SP1) Enterprise.
I have tried to do that with Windows2008R2 SP1 disc. But cannot finish with the error below
windwos cannot install required files, make sure all files required for installation are availabe, and restart the
installation. Error code:0x800700B7
question1
when I insert the Windows2008R2 SP1 boot disc, there is a upgrade option, can I use that?
question2
I also did some research, DISM can be used to change edition. Is it the only way to do that?
PS, re-install is unavailabe. For Windows Server 2008 R2 and above, the recommended way to upgrade edition is to use DISM.
You can follow this article on upgrading edition:

Upgrading from 2012 Standard Evaluation (Domain Controller) to 2012 R2 Standard Full
Hello,
My company recently wanted to move from a Linux domain controller to a Windows system. We downloaded and installed Server 2012 Standard evaluation, set up a domain, and made sure things were working well. Now, we want to purchase the full copy, but we see
that 2012 R2 is now out.
We would like to purchase R2, but somehow do an in-place upgrade. From what I can tell, we have a few hurdles:
*No upgrade path from 2012 Evaluation to 2012 R2 Full
*Cannot upgrade evaluation with DC role to full
What would be the recommended course of action to take here? We do have an unused machine here that could serve as a secondary domain controller that currently has no OS installed, but we don't want to buy 2 server licenses at this time if we can help it.
Thanks,
B
BradenAs far as i know you can't upgrade an eval to a full install on 2012.
you could build a new server using server 2012 R2 depends on how you normally purchase software you might be able to install without likening initially as you get a grace period. Build a new DC in the existing domain and then demote the current DC, then
rebuild it using 2012 R2, licence it and then install it back as a DC and demote the other one you created.

actually i believe you might be able to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303416.aspx
Upgrade means
moving from your existing operating system release to a more recent release, while staying on the same hardware. For example, if your server is running Windows Server 2012, you can upgrade it to Windows Server 2012 R2. You can upgrade from an evaluation version
of the operating system to a retail version, from an older retail version to a newer version, or, in some cases, from a volume-licensed edition of the operating system to an ordinary retail edition.
