SCOM generating closed alerts WITHOUT open alert first...

Hey guys,
A quick question relating to a minor bug-bear of mine. SCOM is working fantastically within our infrastucture! However, there is one minor issue - every so often we get email alerts generated for closed issues without first receiving an alert indicating
that an issue is "open" in the first place!
I first thought this might be because the issue rectifies itself before the "delay sending notifications" period has expired and therefore we're only receiving an alert indicating the issue is closed - but if that were the case, we shouldn't receive
the closed alert either if the issue opens and closes automatically within the "delay sending notifications" period?
UNLESS the issue resolves itself precisely upon the completion of the "delay sending notifications" period and thus we only received the closed alert.
Hope this makes sense. :) Any idea's as to what is going on here?

You could delete it going through Safari and logging into your mail via whoever your service is through (Comcast, Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) or if it's via iCloud, log into that service and delete it there.

Now I want to run the xlf with an alway new analysis.xls.
Of cause the the pattern of the analysis.xls is the same (only latest data).
Now my question, how can I generate ppt files without opening Xcelsius.
like:
cmd: run xlf on xls
output: ppt or swf

Find/change across multiple docs in book without opening all first?

I am working on a book that contains hundreds of individual documents. I would like to be able to find/change globally across all documents, but as far as I can tell, I must first open all of the documents in the book so that the scope menu in the find/change dialog contains "All Documents" as an option. Needless to say, having to open more than a dozen or so documents causes my computer to bog down and it's practical.
Am I missing something here? Is there a way for me to make global search/replaces across all docs in a book without opening them? If so, how?

I'm not able to check this now, but I believe that FrameMaker can open closed book documents to perform spell checking on them. FM leaves the files open, whether or not corrections were made. I'm not sure if such opened files, in which no corrections have been made, need to be saved when closing them, but the user must close them. Files that contain cross-file cross-references are by default checked for valid cross-reference links, which requires the user to choose Save or Don't Save in order to close them, even if no corrections were made. The link-checking is considered to be a change; some folks consider this a bug, others a feature.
I agree that it's a good feature to request for ID. A related feature request would be the ability to open next or previous ID files when paging through to the start or end of a file that's a member of a currently-opened book.

I installed Adobe Reader X and i can't print PDF's without opening Reader first

Hi, i am using windows XP and i just installed Adobe Reader X onto a workstation within' my office. I use to have Adobe Reader 9 where i could just open a folder with my PDF's. For example, My Documents folder and right click on the PDF i want to print, without opening the file in Adobe Reader first and then clicking print. With Adobe Reader X, i can't do the right click option and print because nothing happens.
Is they an option in Adobe Reader X i need to turn on or off, to get the function of printing by right clicking on the PDF file without opening Reader X to print please ?

Is it happening all the times or happened just in the starting when you hadn't accepted EULA?
Is it still happening after accepting EULA?
Also, can you please tell what printer exactly are you using?

How to get and delete questionable mail without actually opening it first.

I am new to Apple again, having bought my first Apple many years ago (an Apple 2C). Does anyone know if I can get mail and delete it without opening it first? If so, I am thinking it is somehow in Preferences but I cannot figure it out. I often get mail from unknown sources (left over from my PC days - ?able viruses on PC) that I don't wish to take the chance to open. In order to delete it, I have to open it first. Any thoughts?? Actually, there is a risk in viewing certain messages, but only if you have enabled Preferences > Viewing > Display remote images in HTML messages — see How HTML Email Messages Relate to Unsolicited Commercial Email ("spam").
As long as Display remote images in HTML messages is OFF and you don’t click on any hyperlink or image the message may contain, you can safely view any messages you receive in Mail.
That said, there are at least three ways to select a message and delete it without displaying its contents:
(1) You can hide the preview pane by dragging the separator bar between the message list and the preview pane to the bottom of the window, or by just double-clicking within the separator bar, so that the preview pane disappears and only the message list is visible. To make the preview pane visible again, drag the separator bar up from the bottom of the window, or just double-click on the separator bar again.
(2) If you select the message with the mouse, the message is displayed in the preview pane when the mouse button is released, not when it’s pressed. This allows you to drag the message to the Trash or to any other mailbox without Mail trying to display its contents.
(3) Ctrl-clicking on a message causes a contextual menu to appear, from which you can usually (but not always, don’t ask me why) choose Delete or Move To, before the contents of the message are displayed in the preview pane.

I want to be able to open my favorite bookmarks without having to open firefox first

When I had IE 9 I could send my favorites to a "tab" in the lower right hand corner called Links and I could open any one of my favorites without opening IE first. When I want to open a favorite bookmark from Firefox, I have to open Firefox first. Is there a way to save bookmarks without having to open the webpage first?

The usual method may be to open Firefox with certain favourites as homepages, or to open Firefox with the tabs from the last session. It may be unusual to have 20-30 pages as a homepage. There may be some limit to the string length but you could try it.

Once Firefox is open you may also choose to open any folder in the bookmarks library and use the option open all tabs. If you wanted you could also open Firefox directly into the library as a tab.

Additionally note that firefox handles tab groups (I seem to recall development of this feature has stopped and it may be replaced in the future)

If you do use tab groups please note they are not too robust. You could loose the sessions, it is a good idea to bookmark important tabs.
Another workaround may be to use a document containing a list of the required links and open that document or a link from it with Firefox. I am not sure if there are any add-ons that do what you require, you could have a look.

I am former PC person. Could view folder content based on a picture of an item in the folder. Can folder in imac be viewed this way without opening the folder?

New to Apple and imac. With a PC, I could view a folder's contents as 4 files from within would be viewable on the folder itself. With the imac, I cannot see what is in the folder without opening it first. Is this possible as that was very convenient.

On an iMac why can't you delete an email without opening it?

Why can't I delete an email without opening it first? Is this not a security risk as I have always been advised that, if I don't know who the email is from, I should delete it so as to avoid opening any suspect attachments that open immediately.
This is my first Mac so could it be that I have not realised how to do this?
My wife can do this on her iPad.

A couple of points:
1. Your concern is not really an issue with macs. More of a PC thing. "Suspect attachments" are extremely, extremely rare for a mac. I mean, like one since 1984, when I bought my first mac. The reason is that Apple seems to be on top of things and keeps updating mac software to protect your mac from this sort of thing. Just keep up with the system updates and you won't have a problem. Microsoft, on the other hand, makes tons of security holes in their software because of their mindset, i.e., that the consumer is a moron and the enemy.
2. In my mail.app, there are three columns in the message viewer, the first which lists the mailboxes, the second which lists the emails, and the third which is a preview window. I can select an email in the second column and delete it without opening it, so I don't see what the problem is that you're having.

Scom - generating alerts from emails received

Hi All,
We have an in house monitoring tool that we use to send email alerts to some of our support teams.
Is it possible to have scom receive these emails and generate an alert based on these?
I would like to do this without the use of scorch monitoring a mailbox and generating the alert for me, simply have "scom" receive the email and create an alert.

SCOM is not able to receive mails. You don't have many choices if you don't want to use Orchestrator. I probably would build a PowerShell Alert Rule or Monitor which runs frequently and checks the "mailbox" and depending on the script criteria
and mails creates an alert.

SCOM 2012 R2 - Generate an alert when a specific event will not come in specific time range

Hello SCOM people,
I need to figure out what kind of monitor shall I choose for my monitoring of a specific event. I need to generate an alert when no specific event was generated by server.
Our company uses FIM 2010 with scheduled tasks, after each completed task is generated an event to application log. When sync is stuck or something is wrong no event will come to application log and I need to be warned. Tasks run each 30minutes and there
should not be an hour break between the previously created event.

Hi Liibas,
That sounds like a good scenario for using Orchestrator and the SCOM Integration Pack, since you can have time-triggers, etc. to check for Alerts and then trigger a Runbook to email someone if the Alert does/does not appear.

Notifications not being generated for alerts generated by rules.

I'm using SCOM 2012 R2 and have configured an alert generating rule to create alerts when specific events occur in a windows event log.
The rule works fine, alerts are generated as expected.
I have also configured subscriptions/subscribers/channels to send notifications via email and SMS (via script in command channel) however even with the criteria set to send on all alerts, I only receive notifications for alerts generated by monitors (so
I know the subs and channels do function)
It seems like some sort of workflow issue where alerts generated by a rule fail to create a notification.
Is there any logging I can enable to see what's happening here?
Any other ideas?

In System Center 2012 Operations Manager, the alert notification will be sent when the alert first meets all criteria, regardless of resolution state, unless resolution state itself is a criterion. If alert suppression is enabled for the rule or monitor
that raises an alert, only one notification will be sent when the subscription criteria are first met. No additional notifications will be sent until the alert is closed and a new alert is raised that meets all subscription criteria. PLease check
1) whether your rule has trun on alert supression
2) Close the alert, craised by rule, and do it again

Keep receiving closed alert upon server reboot

I have a new deployment of SCOM 2012 installed on a 2012 R2 windows servers. I am using SQL 2012 R2 standard edition.
Every time I reboot the server I get a notification with a resolution state of 'Closed'. If I check the alert the 'New' alert was created at the same time it was 'Closed'
Alert: Management Configuration Service failed to complete bootstrap procedure Resolution state: Closed
Details:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open database "OperationsManager" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'domain\serviceaccount'.
My guess is that the SQL services has not fully started when the SCOM services have started. What would be the best way to configure SCOM so I stop receiving these alerts?

Many closed alerts starting at 4am

Each evening we have MANY automatically closed alerts starting at 4am.
I have not been able to determine what monitor has been set to automatically close these. Many are Account Locked out messages. Its this an out of the box configuration of the management packs?

Hi Joe,
This is by design.
Some kinds of alerting in SCOM can be configured as 'AUTO RESOLVE' ("Automatically resolve the alert when the monitor returns to a healthy state"). That means if the problem goes away after the next or several consequent monitoring intervals, the alert will
be closed. Usually this is set for non-critical or temporary issues.
You can change this setting for specific monitor within overrides:
