SCOM Network device and port status alert

My network team has requested to receive an alert when a port on a network device such as a switch or a router goes down, whether it’s operational down or administrative down. At the same time they wish to know when this network device goes down entirely.
When setting up both of these alerts, One does not take prescednce over the other. Therefore, the team gets alerted when the network device goes down plus all of the ports being monitored on that network device. Is there a way to build logic into these monitors,
where if a network device such as a router or switch goes down the monitor which is monitoring the ports will get suppressed or overridden?

You can define anything that you u need to contribute to the overall monitoring of the health.
What is needed is to create the aggregated monitor first before building whatever you require

  • SCOM Network Device Alerts

    Hi,
In our environment we are using SCOM 2012 to monitor Servers and network Devices.we discovered network devices but the display name of the device is looking like 134.sub-91-245-149.ymzvw.com  and the same is displayed in alerts so it is very difficult
to trace out the name and location of the device. But and in the property of the device it shows location and primary owner name of the device it will be helpful if i change the display name to its location name.
Is there any way to change the display name of the device to its location name.
Is there any way to modify the alerts so that it will be easy to figure out the location and name of the device.
    Thanks in advance
    Thanks Siva Aadhi-CIT. MCITP

I have resolved part of my issue. Display name and full path name
is now same as MIB2 System Name. Apparently Display name and
Full path name is  pulled from DNS. So i was about to resolve part of
my issue with just deleting the device from SCOM. creating DNS A record
and re-discovering the device. but still when it comes to alert.. it shows
MAC address as part of Path instead of display name or MIB2 Displayname.

  • Bluetooth PeerFinder.AlternateIdentities keys for unpaired devices and check status

    Hi,
I am developing a Bluetooth printing application. In which I want to find and pair device in the application itself.
     PeerFinder.AlternateIdentities["Bluetooth:PAIRED"] = "";
To find the paired devices, but in a scenario when device is not paired then I am not able to find any new devices in peerfinder. Is there
any way to get a list of unpaired devices along with the paired devices and pair with them if they are not paired.
Also, I want to check the status of Bluetooth devices-
    1. Is it currently on or off?
    2. Is it currently connected?

  • 3429 - Won't detect Networking Devices (And can't manually force drivers)

Got an "old" 3429 from a friend who's been using it at their office for a few years - Did a complete re-format and installed Windows 8 on it.
But now it won't detect any of the network hardware (Ethernet OR Wireless) and I can't get it installed manually (not for lack of trying) by using the drivers listed on the driver download page for the computer.
Additionally - Can anyone tell me what kind of RAM limits this machine has? The specifications seem to be for a never revision of the Thinkcentre that claims the machine uses standard size DDR3 sticks, which doesn't correlate at all with mine - It has a single laptop sized RAM slot (SO-DIMM?)

I've double and triple checked everything now - Both adaptors are enabled in the BIOS, the Ethernet port shows yellow light when connected to the network and nothing appears in Device Manager for either adaptor (No matter how many times I tell it to scan for hardware changes - nor are they pre-installed and present in the list. Only the bluetooth connection is running)

  • Retired devices and bundle status

    Hi all!
I might missunderstad the documentation, but as I read it a device that is retired should loose it's bundle and policy association. According to documentation "As a result, all inventory information is retained and is assessable but all policy and bundle assignments are removed".
When I check the bundle status many of my retired devices is listed under pending, event with bundles created after the device got retired.
    Any suggestions?
    Best regards

  • SCOM 2012 repair and rebuild

    Hello Gurus
I have a quick question. I have a SCOM server that is giving me weird errors, I have already posted the question at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/b034c553-c1b9-4152-bb77-d9a29906d25c/scom-2012-r2-network-monitoring-error?forum=operationsmanagergeneral#b034c553-c1b9-4152-bb77-d9a29906d25c
    but no answers :(
I would have loved to troubleshoot the error but since time is running out, I am thinking maybe to re-install the server. Every other component of SCOM is working, so I was wondering, is it possible for me to keep the other settings and configuration of
SCOM in the new SCOM installation. I want to retain the following specifically:
    Management pack and their customization
    The workgroup server management certificate
    Server inventory
    Overrides
    Reporting and analysis service
    Web console configuration
Account and run as profile configuration.
Alternatively, I am okay if I can only get rid of the network device inventory from the database. I believe the issues that I am facing are because of rogue records of network devices in the database. I am okay with removing them and starting the discovery
    of the network devices again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,

Verify that SNMP open in core switch to Management Server {#snmp-server community "Password" username}and verify from string community (case sensitive)
If not worked, Delete Network Device and reconfigure it again
To Delete Network Device, follow the below steps
In the Discovery Rules option under the Administration Tab, you will be able to see all the network devices that are discovered. This shows the devices that are discovered and currently getting monitored in SCOM. You can select multiple devices and then
    remove them.
Then Run in powershell Get-RemotelyManagedDevice to check that all Network devices deleted.
you can also check below link to remove/restore network device

  • Data desccription for Network devices

    Hi,
We have a scenario where two IP's having a single host name. In SCOM the two IP addresses have been discovered under a single host name
    E.g
    abc.domain.com
    abc.domain.com
When i click the properties i could see that these are two different IP's. We have created SNMP monitors for these devices and when they alert the alert descriptions looks confusing as they show the same host name for both the IP addresses. Tried to bing
but could not find much help.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2007/12/12/adding-custom-information-to-alert-descriptions-and-notifications.aspx
But these do not mention on how to pull out the IP addresses in alert description. We have currently used the below syntax but still get the host name rather than the IP.
    $Target/Property[Type="MicrosoftSystemCenterNetworkDeviceLibrary6172210!Microsoft.SystemCenter.NetworkDevice"]/IPAddress$
    Please advise.
    Jesty Sam

    Hi!
You could create an "override" for the alert name or alert description. More here:

  • TACACS+ packet from unknown Network Device or AAA Client

    Hi all,
I can't perform login using the credential set at ACS server, From the log it shown:
"Failure Reason: 13017 Received TACACS+ packet from unknown Network Device or AAA Client"
I know there's some changes on TACACS+ part for new catalyst IOS, so i refer the guide and this is my config snipet:
    aaa group server tacacs+ TAC_PLUS
    server name AUTH
    tacacs server AUTH
    address ipv4 10.10.21.251
    key xxxxxx
aaa authentication login TAC_PLUS group tacacs+ local line
aaa authorization exec TAC_PLUS group tacacs+ none
aaa authorization commands 15 default if-authenticated
    aaa accounting update periodic 1
    aaa accounting exec TAC_PLUS start-stop group tacacs+
    aaa accounting network TAC_PLUS start-stop group tacacs+
    aaa accounting connection TAC_PLUS start-stop group tacacs+
    My platform is
    - C6500 running on IOS 12.2 (33) SXJ1
    - ACS 5.2.0.26
    Need guidance on this, thanks
    Noel

    Hello,
Is the appropriate IOS IP address defined on the Network Devices and AAA Clients for the ACS? If yes, which IP address is reported on the ACS Failure that includes the error "TACACS+ packet from unknown Network Device or AAA Client"? Is the ACS reporting the IP address as unknown when it is already defined appropriately?
    Regards.

  • Preview Include Network Devices 'sticky' for scanning

Couldn't find a Preview forum but is there a way to not have to go File > Import from Scanner > Include Network Devices and then also have to do File Import from Scanner > OfficeJet Pro 8500 every time I start Preview and need to do a scan from my HP 8500 "All in One"?
I'd like to do this in one step if possible
Apparently there is some bug issue with OSX and being able to control scans from the scanner front panel (i.e. the device) which affects all scanners? The HP guy actually told me they don't support it and when I bugged him he got us on a conference call with Mac which ended up being uber ridiculous.
Anyway, I can't do a scan from the device, have to do it from the computer, and I'd love to be able to keep the scanner hooked up to Preview so at the least I don't do two steps every time I set down to do a series of scans. As it is it is - place the image on the scanner, sit down at the computer (or do a long lean), hit preview, select area, hit scan, get up from the computer, place image...
    Thanks for any help

my understanding is that this will never be fixed in Snow Leopard but some documentation I read made it sound up in the air as to whether this will be or is fixed in Lion.
I have a bigger problem now in that nothing on the machine will work except the OK key when paper is empty.
    "All in one" indeed...

  • SCOM network discovery & port stitching with Cisco UCS & Hyper-V and/or VMware

Before we have our network engineers reconfigure their infrastructure to allow network discovery from SCOM, does anyone know whether or not SCOM will include the virtual switches (Hyper-V or VMware), the UCS fabric interconnects, and the hosted virtual machines in the network vicinity dashboard if you enable network monitoring in SCOM? We're hoping to have monitoring visibility of all network components end-to-end in SCOM, but I've not been able to find any useful information online as to how SCOM network discovery/monitoring handles infrastructure like UCS.

The PF Vnic within UCS Manager has one vlan attached and is tagged native. The Fabric Network Set has a matching network segment with the same vlan ID. I removed the pin group. The port profile according to the SCVMM documentation needs to be set to "Sla only" which removes the options for vlans within the port profile. I've tried adjusting Host Network IO Performance as well with no luck. System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012R2 still throws the same two errors. One thing to note is we are trying to do this thru SCVMM and not Hyper-V on the host itself.
I opened a TAC case and there is one known bug for
    Symptom:
Everytime I assign a Logical Switch to a network adapter or during migration, SCVMM generate an error 25262, "Cannot set a bandwidth setting on the virtual network adapter for the SR-IOV switc
    Conditions:
[ From SCVMM, right click VM and assign logical switch to a network adapter.
    OR
Migrate a client to a different host.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCum75054
There is no workaround for the issue currently.
    My other issue of
Failed while applying switch port settings 'Ethernet Switch Port VLAN Settings' on switch 'UCS-SCVMM': The request is not supported. (0x80070032).
Unknown error (0x8000) has no fix or information.

  • Network Devices: id 11009 Error in SNMP GET response from IP Address:, Status: noSuchInstance(129).

    Hello,
I'm having this error since i started monitoring network devices. Currently i have 14 Network devices (Cisco Switch). I have the SCOM 2012 R2.
The same error appear for a lot of workflows:
    OID: .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.12.10609

    System.NetworkManagement.MIB2_Base.NetworkAdapter.HighInputDiscardRate
Anyone knows a solution? This is generating a lot of alerts. What can i do to stop this workflow?
    Thanks,
    Rui

    Hi,
If we can find the corresponding device according to the OID, and then we could override the monitor or rule for this specific device.
And here is a similar thread about how to monitor Cisco device based on OID, please go through it:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/5e806aa2-c90d-4b39-9ef2-4cfc003e68ff/snmp-monitor-based-on-oids?forum=operationsmanagerauthoring
In addition, have you tried the possible resolution for event 11009 as below in the link I provided in my first post:
    Possible Resolutions
Stale Discovery Data – Device has been reconfigured since the last discovery and Operations Manager is attempting to monitor a component that no longer exists on the device.
If the device doesn’t support the workflow, then a solution is to disable the workflows utilizing the value for the device. This will prevent these workflows loading and failing in the future.
Possibly a device issue, try updating the Firmware and OS on the device
Possible a discovery issue where the instance is being discovered incorrectly.  For example Operations Manager is expecting to monitor a performance counter but this is a virtual interface and the counters are not present for the interface.  Try
running a re-discovery for the device.

  • Network Device Discovery and Monitoring through Proxy Agent

    Hi,
In our SCOM 2012 SP1 environment, I want to monitor an InfiniBand switch that is only connected to a physical server with a SCOM agent and a SQL PDW appliance, but not to the VLAN which the SCOM gateway server is on.
According to SCOM documentation, it seems that if a SCOM mgmt or gateway server cannot connect directly to the switch using ICMP or SNMP-related ports, then it cannot be discovered and ultimately monitored.  Is this correct?  Or can the discovery
occur "through" the physical server that has a SCOM agent installed with proxy enabled, which reports to the gateway server?
I guess I don't fully appreciate the purpose of allowing monitoring of network devices through proxy if the discovery cannot also be performed through proxy, if this is indeed the case.
    Much thanks for any help!

    Hi,
you can create new rules/monitors targeted that specific server which check necessary params of your network device.
