Scorched ipod video screen

NOT ONLY IS MY NEW BLACK 60 GIG IPOD VIDEO TOTALLY SCRATCHED, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, FROM THE CASE I PURCHASED, IT NOW HAS A SCORCHED SECTION ON THE DISPLAY.
HAS ANYONE OUT THERE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM...I DO NOT THINK IT IS BURN IN AND THE IPOD IS REMOVED FROM THE PC WITH GREAT CAUTION....AS WELL AS BEING TREATED WITH KID GLOVES!!! ANYONE WITH ANY IDEAS???? HELP

This actually is the second Ipod video...the first one did get really hot and the screen did burn..It even smelled burned.took it back and it was replaced with a new one ...this one, I thought the same thing was happening again...

Cracked iPod video screen

I've bought my son iPod video 30G last Christmas. Yesterday he found iPod screen cracked and not working. He said he didn't do anything but keeping it in his backpack. I took it to "Smart" bar at the store where I bought it and got the worst experience. The "Smart" guy in that store kept saying about the limited warranty which does not cover the damage done by abuse and offering best option like recycling the four-month old iPod 30Gig and geting 10% discout for new purchase. He said it even cannot be repaired. Does it make any sense to anybody??
I've searched online and found there are tons of complains about fragile iPod video screen and Apple hasn't done anything about this inherent defect yet. Let me ask Apple company the question. Is it really only the user's fault? Is it fair to blame the customers only and even refusing the repair? I guess you should have clearly posted the statement like "the screen is extremely fragile, so please put it in hard-shell case not to break it" in the user manual.
So, good lesson, everyone. Don't waste your $300 for this poor material.

trust me if ipod screens were really that fragile i'd have broken one by now.
I like have the worst care for electronics ever.
let's see i've had three ipod's. my mom said she'd buy me a new one if i'd let her have my old one. that one still works. the next one suffered a corrupted harddrive. and my third one still works. it had better i only got it christmas.
anyway, at multiple times i have sat on dropped and banged against things each one of these ipods.
trust me if ipod screens were really that fragile i'd have broken one by now.
I did have a theory about this though. the accidental breaking.
this depends on the supposed idea that the front cover of the ipod is a layer of glass and one of plastic.
there may be a thin layer of air or moisture trapped between the two layers and when moved from intense cold to heat. the air or moisture expands and causes the material to break.
note the last science class i took was high school chem and i got a D. so no you can't take this to the bank, probably.
and that class was probably graded on a curve.

Ipod video screen discoloration?

im not sure if this is normal or not so im checking. i have a 5g 30g ipod video. when i hold the screen at a slight angle, i see a big rainbow colored spot. when you look head on you dont see it but then if you angle it slightly it catches your eye. its actually bugs you after a while. the spot is in the bottom middle half of the screen. A defect maybe? does anyone else know anything about this???

Yeah I've noticed that too; Don't worry it's normal, I went to the Apple store and all their iPods have that rainbow; don't let it bug you.

SCRATCHED MY IPOD VIDEO SCREEN..HOW TO FIX?!

I've just purchased a 30gb ipod video, along with a skin. While i was putting on the skin, it roughly damaged the screen and scratched it. I am very dissapointed for the screen is suppose to prevent scratches, but while putting it on. It actually created a big scratch and smudges on it. And it is quite unbearable to watch videos with it. Does anyone know how to remove, or if the apple warranty covers it?

I have had success removing scratches with Brasso and a cotton ball. It takes a bit of effort. Wait until the Brasso dries then wipe it off with a face cloth, then buff with a microfine cloth.

30GB iPod Video Screen Replacement

I have a fifth generation 30GB iPod Video and it's really scratched up.
It's weird because it was in a hard case and they both got scratched, but it's like it was with sandpaper...well that doesn't matter.
Ok, so it's scratched a was on eBay looking at iPod accesories (cheaper there) and there were these iPod screen replacements that came with a tool and manual too. It's $15 so I was gonna get it but does anyone know if that's just junk and if it will mess up my iPod because now I can only watch videos when I'm in a dim room. It's really annoying and I need someone's help. Thanks! ^_^

no, i never broke my LCD screen but i had a friend that broke her nano and she sent it here and got it back with no problems..just a new LCD screen!

Hi. I had dropped my iPod video, which resulted in the screen bleeding. I called up Apple, but it wasn't covered under the warranty. Does anyone know of a website or store that would be able to fix this? Thanks.

IPod Video Screen tint

Just bought two identical iPod videos. One unit has a noticable difference in the tint of the screen when next to the other--especially in the white areas. It has a "browner" hue than the other. Has anyone else noticed this? I might have to return the unit for a replacement.

Black line on my ipod video screen

hey im having problems with the screen of my ipod video, it has a black line in the middle of it and it is very strange, i stays when i try to see videos.

I posted this response to you in another thread that you mentioned this in. Out of curiosity, if this began months ago why didn't you contact Apple about it? At that time it probably would have been a little more feasible to believe that it was something that randomnly occured rather than some sort or "human" caused screen damage.
Sounds like your screen sustained some sort of damage (similar to what would happen if your LCD screen cracked). This could have happened in different ways. If you carry it in your pocket or in a bag/purse and something heavy put pressure on it...the screen itself may not have any physical cracks. You can try and see if Apple will cover that under warranty but I wouldn't hold my breath. It doesn't seem like something that would easily occur by itself like a product defect. How long have you had your iPod and when did this occur?

Ipod video + screen discoloration problem

hi,
i just bought the new 30gb ipod with video.
last night when i switched off the ipod, it was in perfect condition, but tody in the morning..i discovered tht the screen has weird light and dark patches (these r not surface patches) when the ipod is switched on there is weird colors coming on the screen... very similar to how a screen behaves when some magnetic material is brought close to it!!!
could this be a bad hardware problem which warrants a replacement? or is there a way to get rid of this problem and avoid it in the future?
please let me know asap.. so tht if the ipod needs to be replaced i can send it with my colleague to japan for replacement!!!

Help with ipod video, screen doesn't work

My ipod started acting weird when I updated the ipod software. My screen will freeze, but it's not black or white, it shows the "Do not disconect" sign but with a bunch of little color squares all over the screen. I've tried everything, restore it, reset it, everything and as soon as it turns on, the screen goes like this.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem then you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

No specs there listed but if it uses a polymer base then it is 100% safe which I am sure it does and it is a 3M product. Similar products are used on aircraft canopies. Uses a two step process, a plastic cleaner and then this product a polish.

the screen on my ipod 5G is cracked, thanks to my dumb dog thinking it was a chew toy. apple won't replace it, even if i offer to pay. does anyone know a trustworthy site where i could send my ipod to be fixed? would greatly appreciate any help.

Broken screen seems to never be covered by Apple. Termed misuse and will be out of your pocket. Cost to repair accounts for close to half if not more the total cost of the IPOD.
