Score Edit makes Logic crash.

Whenever I edit the complete score of my compositions (pretty complex, long), Logic simply crashes. Has anybody here also experienced similar problems?
Also, I'm thinking maybe if I upgrade to version 8, the problem/bug will be sloved. Plus an updated version should have more features that helps me with my music writing. So I think I'm gonna get version 8. But I'm just wondering if version 8 and 7 are compatible. You know, the computers at my uni all run Logic 7 (some Pro, some Express). And if I have an 8 on my own machine, will I be able to continue the work from what I left off from my uni's 7? And vice versa?

Logic 8 does not install over Logic 7, so you are free to use version 7 when you please to do so.

  • 2 suggestions for Score Edit in Logic

    Hi,
I've just been looking for a place where I could do suggestions to the Logic developers, but couldn't find it.... well, maybe they read this
I'd really like the option of having chords with an alternative bass note (like G/B) displayed with the chord letter and the bass note on the same height. Now, the bass note is lower, and it takes a lot of vertical space. Besides that, it's harder to read. Most lead sheets I've seen have all letters on the same height.
Another hint: what if I could copy lyrics from a text document right into the score editor? Suppose I have the lyrics copied on the clipboard, and Logic would interpret all spaces as the "tab" we normally press to jump to the next note. Just make sure that all syllables have spaces between them, then paste at the first note - ready! It would save me a lot of typing!
    Just my 2 cents...
Having said the above, it's really cool to be able to play a melody, play simplified chords on another track, and have a lead sheet with just a few mouse clicks (using "chord analyze"). It made me drop some friends' jaws so far
    Regards,
    Jaap

  • Flex mode on audio region and audio to midi quantize makes Logic crash..

Need confirmation on this also.. Choose an audio track and select Flex mode. Double click on the audio region so you get the sample editor. Choose Factory > Audio to MIDI Groove Template.. Select Try and then Use.. Logic freezes and goes down.

Yes it does it all the time here ...and creates (crashed) (crashed) (crashed) versions of the project.
If you open the original project it opens OK ...when you try to open any of these (crashed) ones it crashes again..
It's the same with audio to score...when you press Use
They have removed the Groove template function from the Menu as well....although you can do it via Quantize in the inspector ...would be nice to be in the menu though....

  • Logic Crashing - Please help me if you can!

    Hi guys
First time posted; Long time browser..
Alright So I have Logic Pro with various AU instruments etc
Its been going great for some time (months) and last two days Ive hit a bump.
We tracked it down to being nexus; (au instrument) however even disabled or removing the .component makes logic crash & Freeze.
At first it would freeze and crash; reopening and re enabling the plugin would allow it to work again for days without a issue. Now with The Plugin active or non active it plays 5 seconds and severe crash
    Im unsure what to do.
Can someone shed some light on my situation?
    Thank you

I will try it tonight when Im home.
Do I completely remove all AU stuff and go all from scratch? I dont mind doing so if it works again.. Alot of au's to install..
Any other ideas on what may be wrong guys?
Thanks for you prompt reply too.

  • Logic Crashing on File- Open Workaround... Sort of.

This subject has gotten a bit of attention over the weekend with no real explaination or resolution.
I have managed to find a partial workaround though that at least allows me to record:
    1) Open Logic
    2) Choose File->New...
    3) Select no Template, and name your file.
    4) Close current song before -> Close
    5) The new file opens and you can record and save as usual.
However, attempting to insert Audio crashes Logic badly without the nice little message that tells you it crashed.
It seems that any function that brings up an Open or Save dialog causes the crash to happen. Don't select any option that requires you to choose a Save or Open file and it won't crash. If you need to import an audio track, drag it from the Finder and do not use the Import Audio feature.
There's no telling what else will make Logic crash in this state, but if you've been not recording all weekend like me, this might get you doing something useful.
Anyone else have any useful workarounds to this serious problem?

    No shapeshifter installed.
I worked on solving the problem using my main account, trying to figure out what files were causing the conflict. Things that I found and removed are:
~/Library/Save Preferences (with some Logic related files in it)
Don't know what this is/was, but I didn't create it, and I don't think it was contributing to the crashing.
    ~/Library/InputManagers/ViInputManager
Someone suggested I remove any input manager I had installed. This was the only one that I found.
    ~/Library/MIDI Drivers/MIDI Monitor.plugin
Can't remember what this is or why its there. So I removed it.
    These VST Plugins:
    BIAS Freq4
    Bouncy (OS X)
    bs-spectrum.vst
    Carbon MDA VST Effects
    Cyanide 2
    freeverb-c
    Freq-2
    Frohmage_VST2Carbon
    H2O
    Inspector
    mda JX10
    Ohm Force
    PlogueRebuilder.vst
    PolyFractus Resonator 1.01b
    S(m)exoscope
    SupaPhaser
    vbox SE 1.21
I wasn't ever really using these, but they did seem to pass the initial scan by Logic. Perhaps something in the scan causes a problem. I didn't need them and didn't feel like doing the "conflict catcher" swap all night. I doubt they were causing the problem anyway.
    Components:
    ExSlAugustusLoop.component
    ExSlMeringue.component
    MadShifta.component
Wasn't using these either so I removed them too.
The thing I think really resolved the problem, and I tried this before when running through Apple's troubleshooting list, was removing the logic cache files from:
    ~/Library/Caches/Logic
Perhaps something in here was corrupt from having the 3rd party AUs and VSTs installed. More than one person mentioned they had numerous problems with 3rd party extensions, and even though I didn't really use them, they were apparently installed and possibly in the way somehow.
There are many more files that I removed that may or may not have been the actual resolution. I find it inconclusive to simply remove everything and have it all working again, considering I could have actually helped Apple diagnose, resolve, and document this particular issue.
Yes, my question has been answered. Mostly by me and my own determination, and in no way that is particularly useful to anyone except to know they aren't the only person having this kind of problem.

  • Logic Crashes When I make a global Cut??

    Anyone had this happen?
LOgic Crashes when i try and make a glbal arrange cut.

Logic crashes when I open a particular file...
    As the old joke goes...
    "Well, don't open it then..."
The first things to do is make some backups of what you have, just in case. Then try booting Logic without the audio drivers (or turn them off) and see if you can load the song.
Also, try deactivating your third-party plugs (a snap with AUManager, or move them temporarily out of your components folder), and seeing whether it will load then.
I would guess that the song is corrupted, so once you can get it to load, I would suggest you start copying all the necessary stuff (regions, automation, channel settings etc etc) into a new, uncorrupted song.
Also, you can try and go back through your auto-numbered backup files, assuming you have the function turned on - you might be able to open a version of the song before the corruption. And if you didn't have that autobackup feature turned on - well, I suggest you do from now on!
If you get no joy doing all that, post back and we'll go from there.

  • Logic 9 corrupts EXS insts created/edited in Logic 8

OK, I thought this issue was limited only to EXS instruments that used the VSL Performance Tool, but I'm finding that many (if not all) instruments I created or edited in Logic 8 are corrupted in Logic 9.
Something fishy is going on in the EXS architecture between these versions. To be specific, it seems that EXS in Logic 9 doesn't recall certain parameters that I've set in version 8: zone loop on/off, start & end points, crossfade, LFO settings and on and on.
This is an absolute show-stopper: I have HUNDREDS of custom EXS patches I created in Logic 8 alone that are unusable in Logic 9!
    Anybody else experiencing this?

Specifically, mod matrix parameters do not recall properly. On some mod/matrix slots, values known to have been saved with non-zero values are recalled as zero. See the following link for an insight:
    http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=45379
"Logic Expert", I admire your optimism though I may note entirely share it. I post feedback because it's one of the few channels we have to report bugs. The value in the forums -- as Jim said -- is to make others aware of problems, get confirmation from other users experiencing the bugs, and, dare I say, vent on occasion. And, of course, to occasionally have a laugh.
For bugs there's also the ADC Bug Reporter, but there isn't enough time in the day to write up reports in the format they (understandably) request. If you're going to go the ADC route you're basically agreeing to be an unpaid beta tester. And the reality of using the Bug Reporter is that you won't necessarily get confirmation of the bugs you report. So you're feeding information into a system that promises basically nothing in return, not confirmation, not a 'thank you'. Only if you're really lucky will you get a response or a request for additional info.
What I don't quite understand is what is so inappropriate about people occasionally expressing their anger because the software they just paid hundreds of dollars for doesn't work as advertised or as expected. Not saying that continual rant-fests is the way to go... far from it. But the frustration is there. It's visible everyday, world-wide on the 'Net vis a vis news articles, blogs, forums, on any number of issues related to Apple products, from laptop batteries blowing up to über-buggy software titles. And Apple's reputation for non-response is legendary.
So what is it about Apple that they should be approached walking on eggshells, or not apprised of the tens of thousands of cumulative man-hours of wasted time and frustration assumed by customers unwitting of the beta-like software they just paid good money for? What is clearly not understood by some power-that-is (and I would also opine that the Emapple guys are not at fault here) is that _people make their living using these wares_. Logic is not a toy! But to advertise it as ready for public consumption and then to see things like this EXS mod matrix bug literally prevent people from making their living is reprehensible.
You speculate that Apple reads the feedback. Sure, I think sending feedback is very important. However, I speculate that the Emapple guys are already aware of some (but not all) of these bugs. But I can't help but think that their hand was forced in putting Logic 9.0.0 out to market when it really should have been put out to pasture with a lot of other RC's.
In terms of being hopeful, yes, let's hope that 9.0.1 comes out REAL quick and fixes, amongst other things:
    • EXS modulation matrix recall bug
    • UNDO history non-recall bug
    • no way to avoid creating take folders when punching into a track bug
    • remainder of punched-into MIDI region shortened when coming out of record
    • tempo event behavior that's vastly different from L8 (a confirmed bug with a fix purportedly in the works)
    • using "select unused" removes BIP files from the Arrange area
    • global track display doesn't function properly in the score editor
    • video thumbnail doesn't display in any Global tracks except those enabled in the Arrange page
The bugs are real, but the rest is my opinion, which may differ from your opinion, YMMV, etc. etc.

  • Score edit:  staving problem

OK, it's a long time since I've needed to use the score edit. I have a string section; when I view it as a score both first and second violins are shown with treble and bass staves, as if they are piano parts. I cannot reduce them to a single staff. I'v looked at score styles...no success. The whole thing is driving me nuts. Why is this so difficult?!
    Thanks.

i'm good mate. currently on holiday in oz. just stealing a glance here to see how everyone is going...
you should be choosing a single stave style such as 'treble' from the default score styles menu. you click hold over the score style for the particular staff you have selected. double click to edit the score style. the rest should be self-evident.
if you are finding that 'treble' is opening with 2 staves, then that is because that has been saved with that song - so something must have been set up in the template you used. simply open the score style editor for treble, and select the stave/voice by making the little ">" into a block in the left hand column and you should be able to delete it.
if things aren't happening as you would expect them to, i would check to see the song isn't corrupt by trying it in a fresh factory autoload.
corrupt songs seems to be a very common problem these days, but you check to see whether it is the case first.
also, saving as a pdf is absolutely the thing to do. i always save to pdf (print - save as pdf in the left hand corner of the print dialogue box) before i print - ie i print from pdf rather than direct from logic. if you make a mistake with a pdf then that is far more efficient to delete and correct than throwing out reams of paper.

  • Logic Crashes EVERY time within 3 minutes.

    Hi,
I am having major major reliability issues with logic, I appreciate I am running now quite old software but it shouldnt be this bad.
The problem is slightly strange, almost every time I launch logic, I can do one thing before it crashes, trying to do the second thing crashes it.
For example, if I want to sound replace a kick drum with a better one. I will launch logic, load the kick drum audio file, make a groove template 'audio to score', first process done. The second process of creating the new audio file - I will load an exs24 with a kick sound I like, pass the new midi region through it, then when I go to file 'export region as audio file' logic crashes. However I have been saving as I go. So when I reload logic I can go to export region, and it works fine. The trouble is then I go to load my snare drum track into the audio window, and yep, it crashes.
The problem seems to happen with anything, not just replacing audio, the key thing does seem to be opening new dialogue windows. I said it happens almost every time, sometimes it happens straight away, I cant remember the last time it manage three things!
obviously this is incredibly annoying and time consuming! can anybody help!
I am running Logic Pro 7.1, on a macbook pro 2.5GHz core 2 duo, running osx 10.5.4. I am aware those versions are not the latest, but I am reluctant to update, as I have my computer set up with two OS's, one is up to date for day to day and this one exclusively for audio. I mostly run pro tools and this is smooth as **** so I dont really want to have to change that. I have tried re-installing logic but to no avail!
    many thanks.

An interesting idea, I have 2GB Ram which should be more than enough as these are relatively simple tasks but will certainly give it a go.
Your comment about the digidesign stuff, obviously I'm not going to remove pro tools, but any thoughts on whether I would be better running on internal audio rather than my digi 002? I have tried both and it doesnt seem to make a lot of difference, so have reverted to mainly using it, but maybe I should try without?
I suppose I could also try installing logic on my up to date OS (which doesnt have pro tools and see if its any better there.
    cheers

  • Logic crashes when trying to open a Garageband project file

    Hey guys,
Since discovering that software instrument apple loops (SIAL) do NOT include the effects/sends when they are imported into logic, a discussion on here mentioned that when opened in Garageband, the effects are included. The suggestion was that by opening a garageband project in logic, the effects/sends would all be imported into logic from garage band.
This worked fine for a couple of software instruments such as '80's Dance Bass Synth' but strangely every time i try to open a garageband project file in logic with any of the software instrument loops 'Classic Rock Steel' or 'Southern Rock Guitar' logic crashes trying to open it. It usually loads up until an effect such as channel eq, platinumverb, or ducker and then stops loading and freezes.
It is really odd that it seems to be related to those guitar loops. So i was wondering if anyone has a fix, or if someone could spare a minute of their time and make a garageband project with a 'Southern Rock Guitar 2' software loop and try to open this project file in Logic - just to see if it is a problem with my logic, or if it is the same for everybody.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
    Nick.

  • Logic crashes / won't open a specific project I'm trying to open.

Hi, I was just working on a track an hour ago till Logic crashed unexpectedly. Since then I've been able to start a new project and open new ones, but whenever I go to open this specific file it just crashes.
I'm hoping if someone could help me identify the problem and possibly a solution, if possible. I would really appreciate it. My Mac is perfectly fine and have no problems with my ram or anything to be honest, below I've attached the crash log. Thanks for you help, before any one also asks I have searched the forum and couldn't find anything. If someone could point me into the right direction, it would be a massive help.

What were you doing just before the crash happened? Did you insert a new plugin?
You could try opening the project with coreaudio disabled (hold ctrl key while Logic is starting up). If it opens, go to the undo list, take one step back, save, initialize coreaudio and watch what happens. Crash again? Repeat the procedure but go two steps back in the undo list - etc until it doesn't crash anymore.
If you have no undo list, try opening projects from the project file backup folder, starting with the most recent, and if need be, going back until you find the most recent one that didn't crash. With both methods you get your working project back, and a chance to find out what the cause was.
Do you use Reason/Rewire? Make sure that it is up to date and compatible, there are some versions that crash Logic - though since it is not mentioned in the crashed thread, it may well be 'innocent' in this case. If you do not use it, uninstall it.

  • Logic crashes when it tries to access other applications

Hi - The problem I am about to describe has make Logic basically a useless application. It happens on Logic Pro 7 and on Logic Express 7 on my computer. I have tried it on other uses and the same thing happens. I have emptied caches, deleted preferences files for both express and pro, reinstalled both express and pro, and more, but still the problem persists in both applications. The problem: whenever Logic needs to use another application to do something, it crashes. Examples of these instances include, for when Logic tries to access the finder: saving songs, creating new songs, exporting midi files, freezing, and bouncing. Also, when I try to export to iTunes, Logic crashes. These are just a few of the instances and I'm sure there are other times I just haven't discovered yet. Everything I do in Logic that solely use logic, and doesn't access another application works like normal.
Has anybody heard of this? Any suggestions? Apple Care hasn't been able to help despite countless hours with them on the phone.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

First of all repair disk permissions.
Then try a safe boot, i.e. start your Mac with the Shift key depressed until it's up then restart again normally.
Which version of Logic 7 do you own?
Do you have enough memory and disk space?
    cheers

  • Logic crashes when saving

on my brand new and properly clean installed macpro, a logic project keeps making me crazy.
its a rather full project, i cleaned it up a lot already, but saving is nt possible in most cases. after each clean up, itry saving and it works (though it takes some seconds). thenm after some working (like 40 minutes) saving repeatedly again doesnt work. either there is a spinning wheel of death or nothing happens.
i have enough space free on hd, i have 10 gig ram and use 10.5.6

i suspect its the kore 2 plug in, as the kore controller flashes up when the saving gets done, but it doesnt do it when it hangs. im trying to refresh/opne that plug in first before saving, last time it worked, but the crashes happened after longer times of non saving, so i dont know if that was it
nevertheless im wondering what is it that makes logic take so long when saving? i think i once read about that and dont find it anymore. no wonder an auto save isnt there, it just wouldnt work.
can it be solved by adjusting samplers virtual memory or something else?
ive sent the log file to apple aftert the crash, is it still somewhere maybe?

  • Logic crashes when I open a particular file

Hi, Logic just started crashing on me and usually I could reopen the file, undo a few levels and carry on...However I seem to have saved something just before a crash which actually caused the crash, so that now when I open that file Logic crashes immediately, leaving me no time to get in and undo. Until today it's been running nicely. The file has a 90-minute mpeg4 movie and some AU tracks running. I've already trashed the preferences file, and removed the video file to thre trash so it wouldn't be accessible, but still no go. Any suggestions? Thanks.
    imac 4.1   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Logic Pro 7.2.1 / 1.5 GB of ram
