SCORE: Fonts and Crashing (7.1.1)

Question

I think I've found a situation where disabling certain fonts (using FontBook) will result in crashes when selecting fonts in the score editor.
SITUATION:  the other day I installed a bunch of new fonts. While I was in the FontBook I took the opportunity to disable a bunch of font families that I will never in my life use (Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, and various others).
After a restart I opened a Logic song, and when I went to change the font for the title I placed in the header, Logic crashed. I was able to repeat this behavior numerous times.
[Action = click on the title text, then click/hold on the font selector in the parameter box at left. Normally a font menu should appear, but in this case it did not, and then, crashola.]
So I re-enabled those fonts, and after that Logic was fine. Tried the same change-the-font maneuver and the font menu appeared, all was well.
So... just a caveat that if you mess with FontBook and disable certain fonts, it might end up affecting Logic's performance.

Hi iSchwartz,
You can add and take out fonts from 2 of the 3 Font folders. The folder that should not be messed with is:
/System/Library/Fonts
Fonts in /Library/Fonts can be added to and these fonts will be available to all users on your Mac. Fonts in ~/Library/Fonts will be available to only that specific user. And fonts in /System/Library/Fonts are used by the system to do whatever fiendish things it does behind our backs.
The issue comes (your wife will probably chip in here) when one has to use a Post Script version of a System font. In theory, the System font can be replaced with the post script version and the System will call this as and when required. Fonts do, for no reason whatsover, sometimes corrupt in OS X, but it's not usually the System fonts. There are fonts in the System/Library, that if removed, would stop the MAc from booting altogether..... yes, scary.
So the long and the short of it is.... leave /System/Library/Fonts well alone and add any you may want to use to /Library/Fonts and it should be happy days.
