Score Logic Express 9 Score Playback

Grateful any thoughts on using dynamics with the Score in playback. Things like accents, ties, slurs, cresc and dim. It would be fantastic to have this.

Midi is not reflected as ornaments in scores but the reverse is true for notation software. You can use ornaments like rit, acc, dim, etc in notation software (Sibelius, Finale,...) and they will be seen as events in the midi file if the tempo map is included. This means that you have to start with, e.g., Sibelius or Finale and then move over to Logic. I don't use Logic's notation except for quick testing of changes. My final output is sheet music and for that you have to use "real" notation software. Logic's notation capabilities are, of course, very nice and helpful when you do your preliminary drafts.

  • Trigger a applescript or Quickeys event from a Logic Express SCORE WINDOW

I am using a wireless bluetooth midi device that sends a note on C60 midi command to logic express. I have the automation set to trigger the next note in the score window by just having a note on C60 trigger the RIGHT ARROW key. I want to trigger a Applescript, Quickey or start a video when the SCORE reaches a certain point. It could also be at the end of that score as well.
I am really stuck and ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

Have partially answered my own question- have worked out how to change note sizes to the smaller cue-type display, not quite sure how to designate them non-playing though still appearing in the score though.

  • I just installed Lion and the newest version of Logic express 9 (9.1.5) and every time i playback audio I get this error message:  [Disk is too slow or System Overload. (-10010) . Never had any issues before now...

I just installed OSX Lion (10.7.2) and updated to the newest version of Logic express (9.1.5) on a macbook and every time I playback audio I get this error message:  [Disk is too slow or System Overload. (-10010) The Sudden Motion Sensor may have parked the hard drive head, or the disk performance is not sufficient to read or write all audio tracks, or the system was not able to process all data in time]
Never had any issues before now... any ideas?

Have a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.

  • Anyone using Logic to score to picture?

Anyone using Logic to score to picture?
    what is your workflow?

I either get the QT movie delivered on DVD-ROM or delivered on an external FW drive already in the size and format that I want. I don't use DV output (I run the video in a window on a 2nd monitor).
I create a separate logic song for every music cue, which I find works for me. it minimises the need to fiddle with locking objects to TC when there are tempo changes etc. in order to hear the other music that I am working on in the film to get an overall global feel etc, I bounce a work in progress from each song and place them in the right place on a dedicated track in every music cue logic song. time consuming but effective.
for the film audio, I extract it to a track from the QT and run it in logic. can be a pain when having to change offsets but I have a technique for cutting the audio file to realign it with the film if I need to offset it.
what I would like to see is far better implementation of movies in logic in general. I tried using the detect cuts feature for a while but found it pretty much useless for me. I am still finding that logic forgets what QT was saved with a song, so I am having to relocate it again, and it irritatingly defaults to looking in the movies folder on my system drive.. so instead of fighting it, I copy the QT to that folder when I can, ie, when it is not too big a file. in general I would like a more elastic and intuitive way to glide a movie start point as far back or forward as I would like, to easily align the start point of a music cue with bar one.
that's all I can think of for now. any other Qs just ask.

  • Can logic express slow down or change the key from playbacks like the program "Amazing slowdowner"?r

    Hello,
I'm a new member and I'm actually trying to work with garage band to record voice and playback. Can "logic express" Vs. 8.0 slow down or change the key from playbacks like the program "Amazing slowdowner"? This is a programm wich costs 50 US Dollar and I want to decide if i buy it or not.
What is the hgreatest different between "garage band" and logic express 8.0? Who can hepl me, which is the right thing for me. I find it difficult to find out which effects are the best only to record my voice with playback.
    Thanks for your advices.

If you want to slow down the audio why not download a program from ABRSM called Speedshifter- its free and is very good.  you could export the audio from Logic and open the MP3 file with speed shifter. I think speedshifter  may also  have the ability to alter the pitch as well. I use it for Flute practice- its very useful !

  • What am I doing wrong?  No playback output - Apogee Duet / Logic Express 9

I have an Apogee Duet, using Logic Express 9.
I am getting NO output of anything when playing back a recording.
While recording a guitar thru Duet, I get output from my speaker (hooked up to 'OUT R" output of Duet). Logic Express 9 hears the input and the recording appears to be present.
When I attempt to playback I get NO sound whatsoever.
I have rechecked all my Preferences in both Logic & the Mac Sound System Preferences.

Tried all of the above. No change.
Seems the problem is that on the Maestro Mixer - I need the "To Hardware" set to "None". Why is this? When set to "Out L-R" I get nothing any time from Output except while playing something into the Duet inputs.
I also tried playing a Youtube video and an iTunes song and I get nothing from the Duet Output. I have tried Headphones through the Duet Headphones output jack. I have tried powered speakers thru both the Output-R and the Headphones output.
When I plug a guitar in the Duet Input, I get sound from the Duet Output as I am playing.
Only when the "To Hardware" is set to "None" do I get sound outputting from computer. Can someone tell me what's going on? What's the Out L-R for then? Obviously I am really really new to all this.
Here are some of the settings I have:
    MacBookPro
    System Preferences / Sound / Output / "Duet (0612) - Firewire
Settings for the selected device: "The selected device has no output controls:
    Output volume set at 50%
    No Mute checked
Show volume in menu bar - checked
System Preferences / Sound / Sound Effect
Play sound effects through = Duet (0612)
    System Preferences / Sound / Input / Duet (0612) - Firewire
    Maestro Mixer - Duet (0612)
    To Hardware = None
(When set to Out L-R is when I get no sound)
    Maestro Control - Duet (0612)
When OUT Mute is engaged - both Speaker and Headphones checked
When OUT Mute is not engaged - nothing checked
Logic Express / Preferences / Audio / Devices
    Core Audio
    Enabled - checked
    Output Device = Duet (0612)
    Input Device - Duet (0612)
    I/O Buffer = 256
Universal Track Mode, 24-bit Recording, Software Monitoring - checked
Logic Express / Preferences / Audio / IO Assignments
Output / Stereo / Output 1-2 (Stereo Output)
Logic Express / Options / Audio / Open Apogee Control Panel
    Output = -28dB
    Level = Line -10dBV
    Mute - not checked
Mute Behavior - Mute Main Output & Headphones
Meter / Display shows - Input
    Overload Hold - 2 seconds
For what it's worth, my sole focus for the time being is simply recording audio (either vocal and drums mic'd through XLR Inputs or guitars/bass through Instrument Inputs) and mixing. I am not interested in software instruments, although I might try and add an effect to a guitar at some point.
Not getting playback after recording something has been driving me nuts.
    Thanks

  • No Sound from Logic Express 8 during track playback?

Hi and Help. I am probably being stupid and I guess this is simple to clear up. I have read the manual but I can't find a resolution (probably miussed that to!). Anyway the problem is this, I have just bought Logic Express 8, set up was fine on my macbook pro intel core duo which is also linked to logitach Z-10 speakers (actually good!). Upon opening Logic I set up a track (by the way Core Audio is on) and drag a loop from the brouser into a new track, it locates in the track and I play it back, nothing, not a sound or blip on the channel indicator. I can audition the loop in the brouser and it plays fine. Why no sound playback from the track??
Can you help please, I have odviously missed something simple but I don't know what it is.

Well yes I was being stupid. I have resolved the issue, it was down to understanding terminalogy. All is working.

  • Playback Stops Itself In Logic Express 9 - Help!

Hi, I've never used these forums before, so I'm sorry for anything I do wrong!
I have the latest version of Logic Express 9 on A 2.53Ghz, 8GB macbook pro, and have been working on a MIDI and audio project, which was playing all the way through, and working fine until just now. It stops playing, and will not start playing at any point after bar 77.4 - i have no idea why it's doing this - please explain how to fix this or what's up!
    Cheers!

Do you have the end marker set to 77.4 accidentally?

  • Logic Express and Silent Violins ...

    Hi all,
I am new to Logic Express and try to explore it's capabilities ...
My endpoint is this: I want to be able to record a silent violin (normal analog audio output) directly as a MIDI file onto Logic Express.
I have searched the net, but have been unable sofar to find a solution. Is it possible at all? Is there a plug-in that converts WAV.files straight into MIDI as you record?
Or is there any other hardware or software based possibility?
There used to be a company by the name ZETA which produced violins with their own proprietory MIDI converter. Problem is, they are out of business and their MIDI converter was only working with their own instruments. I am looking to use a Yamaha Silent Violin to achieve that.
    All help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
there's an onboard solution from Logic: Open you recorded Audio in the sample editor. Select Factory -> audio to score. Depending on your audio material, you must fiddle around with the settings to get an acceptable result. The engine will generate a MIDI region overlapping your audio file. Drag it to a software instrument track to test the results.
Otherwise, i would recommend the Roland GK3 Guitar to MIDI converter pickup. I don't know if it works with a violin as well, but i heard of other people using it. Cost around 150-200$

  • Question about logic pro 7 & logic express

I have been working in Logic Platinum 4.7 for several years & need to upgrade - I work mainly in MIDI for new Age music and add 1 or 2 live audio tracks - I don't use a lot of effects and never use loops - a salesman at Sweetwater suggested that I might only need logic express rather than Pro 7 - does anyone know if logic express can do all that logic 4.7 did? I do not know about 4.7 but I do have Logic Express which
I used for about 6 months before upgrading. I would think
that you will be fine if all you are doing is what you described
here. You really dont need a mixer but you might want to
look at a control surface which gives you the feel of a mixer.
I suggest the Behringer BCF2000, Only 200 and it emulates
a Logic Control. As far as interfaces you are going to find
alot of different opinions here so you should check them
all out. It comes down to how much you are willing to spend.
    Hope this helps, PK

  • How good is the music notation facility in Logic Express 9?

The music notation feature in GarageBand is frustratingly inadequate. For instance, using a piano keyboard it is impossible - as far as I can tell - to show notes below middle C as being played by the right hand. This means that some very basic chords appear in the notation as being physically impossible to play. For instance, if I play C1 & E2 in the left hand and G2, C3 And E3 in the right, the music notation shows the left hand as C1, E2 and G2. I can't stretch that far!
If I upgrade from GarageBand to Logic Express 9, will the music notation facility enable me to print what I play?

Not without a lot of trouble, and not in an easily readable way. E.g., if you put a quaver over two semiquavers (thats an eighth over two sixteenths), the quaver will be split in two, so you'll see 4 semiquavers, two of which are bound. Changing a note's staff is possible, but can lead to ugly results. Logic Express (and I think Pro too) doesn't have a ready-to-print scoring facility.
I can advise you to use Logic for recording. There you can edit it until all the notes are correct, and then export the midi file to e.g. the freeware MuseScore. That gives you great control over the score. If that doesn't suit you, you'll have to move on to Finale, Sibelius, Overture, ...

  • Entering tablature for audio track in Logic Express 9

    Hi,
When recording an audio track in Logic Express 9, I'd like to manually enter tablature for the recorded piece. After reading the manual and some tweaking, I still have a couple of questions about this:
    1. It seems one can only enter tablature for midi tracks, so I end up adding a fake midi track, muting it, then entering tablature on that midi track. Is there an easier approach?
    2. Is there a way to enter whole chords at once in the tab track instead of first having to enter each note of a chord separately, then copy/pasting that chord to all places I need it? (I know one can add chord symbols, but these are just text symbols that do not have rhythm notation.)
    3. It seems that the tablature editor in Logic Express supports only a limited number of fingerings, i.e., one cannot add a note on the 6th fret of the 6th string, as this is automatically turned into the 1st fret on the 5th string. Can this be changed?
    Any help appreciated!

    Hi,
    To answer your questions,
    1. I'm sorry, but there is no easier way. Since the "audio to score" function (where you let Logic interpret the notes in the audio and makes midi out of it) hasn't fully matured yet, I don't think there's an easier approach.
    2. In the environment you can add a chord memorizer. With this function you can Logic tell to put in a (for instance) C-chord when you hit just the C-note on your midi keyboard. Since I used this function just once and I'm not anywhere close to a Mac with Logic I can't tell exactly how this works right now.
    3. You can change the position of a note on the tablature by changing the note's MIDI channel (in the inspector).

  • Logic Express  Split Point Option Help

I have Logic Pro 7. I can set a split point in the score editior.
Does anyone know if this can be done in the Logic 7 Express as well. The older Logic cheaper versions do not allow this option. One of my piano students wants to upgrade to get this option if it's available. If anyone could look in the score window to see if this option is available I'd appreciate it
    Thanks

    Hi Jack.
I would ask this question in the Logic Express forum if you haven't already.

  • How is the Logic Express Notation?

I am going to begin creating and selling sheet music. Does anyone have experience with the Logic Express Notation? Is it professional quality (where I can add things like first and second endings and codas, etc.)?

Logic can show music notation- hard to explain but:
I connected my keyboard to the computer and you record it as a software instrument then after you record, at the bottom of the screen between piano roll and hyper editor click on score. You can also drag notes if you make a mistake, but im not sur if this will work for making sheet music.

  • Is anybody out there who knows the steps to set up Logic Express? with an Alesis iO|26 interface

Is anybody out there who knows the steps to set up Logic Express 9 (scores) with an Alesis iO|26 interface to input notes by playing
an electric guitar? Thank you for your time and patience.

    PETERSON SONUUS-G2M MIDI-KONVERTER
ok this one could sendout your guitar sound as a MIDI data but only monophone.
Thats what i see as a big computation problem ( when you play your simple C7 there are
at least 10 important parameter that describe your C7 chord; but if you play monophone
theese small boxes can convert it).
Have you tried anny MIDI guitar?
I saw some "usb" guitars transmiting midi signal into
    software synth on some computer.
