Score looks jumbled

The score looks jumbled after changing time signature. i.e. 2 time signatures, rests that do not belong. I cannot erase them. Is this a bug? Help!

Post a little excerpt score of before and after you changed the time signature. In general you do not need to erase rests because the program calculates them automatically for you, also look here if in doubt:

When printing, my score is jumbled. How do I fix it?

I'm trying to score some stuff but when I print to PDF or preview in... uh, Preview... everything is jumbled to bits. It looks vaguely like a score but the noteheads are severed from their stems, whole lines of staves are skipped... it's a mess.
I'm running OSX 10.6.8 on my old black MacBook 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. My hard drive recently failed and I replaced it, but I'm wondering if there's some file that got corrupted in the process. Help?

Connect your iPod to iTunes in Recovery Mode as described in this Apple support document. Once you have succesfully done that, you'll need to restore it via iTunes.

Why does my PDF look jumbled

I've made a PDF from a word doc on my desktop PC and sent it to my iPad via gmail and when I open it in adobe reader it is completely jumbled... But everywhere else and every other platform I open it... It's just fine

Do other PDF files display correctly on your iPad?
Do you know whether the fonts used in the document you're referencing were embedded in the PDF? If not, that could be the cause. You can tell the status of fonts used in the PDF by choosing File > Properties in Reader or Acrobat and clicking the Fonts tab.

IWeb page looking jumbled on the net and not my computer

I think this may be the first time I've published my web page to the net with 08 and its not translated some of the images. A couple new pictures i've added are only showing as a question mark and parts of the actual apple template art are also question marks on a page i created a while ago. Also, some fonts are large, etc. I've refreshed and republished several times with no change. something isn't translating or something. If someone could lend a bit of help, this would be much appreciated.

When I try to edit a photo, the photo looks jumbled and like static, or just a blank, black screen. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Is there any way to fix this? I only bought my Mac about two months ago, and am about to take it back to Best Buy!

It sounds like a hardware issue.
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Crashes after trying to change font in score window

Hi,
I'm having a weird problem with Logic 7.1 in my powerbook 1.33. When trying to change a font in score edit window, Logic crashes imediatly. It happens in the "Text Styles" window as well. When you click in a font name, it's gone!
Any ideas? Running in the latest Tiger with 1Gb RAM. Also, is it a problem to keep Logic 6.4 installed on the same machine?

as a matter of fact i do, although my G4 will run classic. and LP7 is os x only, you need an older version of logic that runs in OS 9. logic won't run in classic mode.
to save your file, i suggest taking it to someone with os 9 and an old version of logic. in fact, if you emailed it to me i could do it. someone on this forum suggested buying an older machine with USB (or getting a USB card) just for such emergencies. i have retained my old G3 powerbook with logic 5.5. it has a PCMCIA USB card on it so i can put in my XSkey.
having to do this is stupid though. let's see, to fix this logic score display bug, we have to buy an old computer that can boot up in classic, open and resave the corrupted song in that. what a ridiculous work around.
when I open older socres created on my previous mac-printer setup, it's all messy, dynamics, articulations and text (not to mention the wrong fonts).
yet another reason we need some logic score updating action. the reason your score looks funny will be due to the fact that you probably resized your score using page setup - ie using your printer driver. the correct way to do this is by opening the instrument set display box and resizing there.
fonts not being displayed will be down to whatever fonts you have available in your system, so if you do not have the fonts available then they cannot be displayed. another reason your display will look strange, particularly in terms of where your articulations and dynamics are placed in the score may have to do with how you inserted them in the first place. in logic, you have to be very careful to insert your dynamics, articulations etc on the correct stave (it will be highlighted blue when you select the object) and in the correct midi position. check to see if they are in your messy score by selecting the object (ie dynamic articulation or whatever) and opening the event editor. is it where it should be?
another trick if the display is completely screwed in logic 7 is to cut an object at a barline. (though obviously not in the middle of a note). this forces logic to recalculate the score display.
my advice if you want to have soft copies of previous scores is to create pdf's of them. i almost never print directly from logic (unless i am in a terrible rush), i create pdf's first. that way you won't run in to the display problem. you can do this easily in os 9 if you have laserwirter 8 selected in chooser. you can then save to file and choose acrobat pdf.

Score, Line Breaks, Preparing Parts (oh... Rohan?!?)

Couple of questions about preparing my parts from the score for a small string ensemble...
Got my conductor's score looking all spiffy. Now I need to extract my individual parts. I've done this a million times in the past and I always run into the same problems, so I thought it time to get some sagely advice.
1. Is there any way to "lock" line breaks so that when I create individual parts from my score that the line breaks I created for the conductor's score remain intact in my parts?
Seems that when I double-click on a particular part's staff to see just that part, my line breaks have been disregarded completely.
2. On a related note, taking Rohan's advice from another thread, I created a duplicate score style for each part that I was going to extract (never done that before). But when I selected the first duplicate score style (for preparing my violin 1 part), the score layout changed. I'm stumped...

i didn't mean make a duplicate of the full score , i meant make an instrument set of the individual instrument. that means there is only the one instrument in the entire set. you can then format it exactly as you need it to look and print pdf. how line breaks correspond to others is a bit of a mystery, but in general it looks right when i go into each part/instrument set even though i have no faith that it will. but at least each part will have its own individual size and appears to retain its line breaks.
the workflow i have found really reliable is:
- create the instrument sets for your parts and insert any extra markings working your way through the score and pdf-ing as you go.
- you may discover errors or omissions or something that you need to return to a previous part to correct, so you can then re-pdf.
- only once you have all the parts pdf-ed, pdf the score having first deleted all multi bar rests by selecting one in an event editor and then hitting 'select similar'. this is neceassry as multi-bar rests cause display problems. hopefully with LP8 we won't have to do that.
you DON'T save that version. you revert to save after pdf-ing the conductors score. i know it's silly, but the work around at the end only takes a moment. but going about it this way will virtually guarantee everything will turn out as it should.

Lot of jumbled text

The web site you link to looks normal in my Safari, but it looks like your screenshot when I increase the text size one increment using the View menu "Make Text Bigger" command (or with the keyboard shortcut using Command and the plus symbol). That's a flaw in the design of many web pages: too rigid a design, i.e. lack of fluidity, such that user changes (like increasing text size) distorts the layout.
If you increase the text size on a web page using that menu command or keyboard shortcut, closing the page and opening a new page or tab in Safari should return the text size to normal, even when you return to the same web site. So this shouldn't continue if you inadvertently made the text size change.
If you didn't change the text size, have you used any other methods to change the way text is displayed in Safari? Any Safari enhancers or add-ons, or a user style sheet specified in Safari -> Preferences, Advanced?

Score problem: lp8 individual note attributes defeat does not work

I like to leave interpretation checked on for most instrument tracks. This usually makes the score look ok, but not for every note. When I try to turn off interpretation for an individual note by double clicking that note, interpretation defeat does nothing! So I can't make my parts look right. This is crucial to me because I often print out parts for musicians to play, and I need to have the parts look musically correct!
for ex: I play (and quantize, btw) a quarter note on beat 1, and 4 16th notes on beat 2, with beat 1 tied to the first 16th note of beat 2. With track interpretation on, I get a rest on the first 16th note of beat 2. I turn track interpretation off, and it fixes it, but when I double click the first note and choose interpretation defeat, nothing happens! In logic 7, this worked fine.
Can anyone help?
I hoped 8.01 would fix this, cuz I reported it, but noooooooo....
I have used emagic software since atari notator, and I have to say I am VERY disappointed with lp8 - what a mess!!!! I am still using 7, and am contemplating pro tools......

Arthur, this sounds like a legacy bug... In any case, may I suggest a different approach that will give you the results you're looking for...
First, instead of leaving the interpretation checkbox on for all parts as you normally do, do the opposite -- turn it OFF for each part. And immediately after turning it off on any part, Select ALL and use the function "force interpretation" (via key command or the menu item). At this point your display will look as it did with the interpretation checkbox = on, +but with one big difference+ --- you can now selectively defeat the interpretation on selected notes _and it will work as expected_ !

Rubbish 3dmark06 score and BSOD K8N Neo2 Platinum

I wasn't sure where to post this so please move if necessary: Two issues here.
What sort of score should I be getting with the rig I have? The score seems way off the pace. Wonder if there are some settings that need adjusting to get to a reasonable level. As you can see from signature I have moderate overclock going, which has boosted my score marginally. The same card on a K7N2 Delta 2-LSR posted 1478 with no overclock.
I'm using latest official drivers (81.98) and graphics card is not overclocked.
Antialiasing, Anisotropic, Vertical Sync all application controlled; Image settings set to High Performance.
I guess I should have checked bios settings before posting but I think fast writes is enabled.
My 3dmark2001se was 18557 at stock and 19538 O'ced.
Do you think there is something wrong with card?
The second issue which I'm not sure is related is a BSOD; BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER; STOP: 0x000000FE which occurred when not actually doing anything.
The reason I mention it is, on my old rig just immediately after installing 6600GT (prior to loading new drivers) I got same STOP message; it mentioned if you have recently added any hardware etc. I thought this normal and attributed to new graphics card. Rebooted in safe mode, installed drivers and everything fine.
If not graphics then I'm leaning towards usb receiver for ms keyboard/mouse.
Any pointers?

Your score does look a bit low. My m8 with and XP 3000+, 1536 DDR, 6800 softmodded 16/6 O/C Core 386, Ram 786 (from 12/5 300/700) gets 1654 on 06 with the latest drivers set (81xx some think) to 06 benching after several days of finding the best tweaked setting for his card. On higher GFX O/C 394/796 he gets 1482
Running stocked (with out AGP drivers for his MOBO chipset, I told him to install them a year ago but did he, NO because he said I can install XP a fresh no problem. lol with out doing correrct drivers it turned out) he got 312 lol. And his games where pausing. I changed the PSU, ram, reseated CPU with new paste and heat sink and added 4 case fans. After all of that I was at a loss as to the problem and he was moaning that it was the MOBO. I knew 99 % is wasn't I've used a few 100 in the past and they were rock.
Well I loaded AGP drivers and hey his score when from 312 to 1340. I nearly switched on him . For nearly a year he was moaning about the build and parts I used pointing the finger @ me. I told him I would install XP and set it up right. But he was to fast and wanted to get his rig home (before I fully finished my routine of a build and set up). And he stated "I can install XP and add drivers its easy" ???
ARRRRRRRRRRRR makes me mad after all the hours I tested it with different programs and added and removed hardware. And it was down to him not loading drivers off the MOBO disk or downloading new ones direct from the website. The thing is he installed XP 3 times over that year. Yet had he had waited a few hours more for me to set it up. He would not have needed to moan and I would not have waste hours, trying to find the problem. I must have asked him 10 + times did you load all the drivers correctly. And in the end I had 2
I just happy that he takes what I say to heart now. As he nearly blew his system due to being to fast. Jumping in at the deep end before being able to even keep a float. As with all tweaking its a matter of knowing what to do and taking it in small steps to find limits of your hardware !

It's video related... but i don't know what.

Alright, so about a month ago, I was working on the computer and I noticed this pixel pattern across certain elements of the GUI. It was on and around the Spotlight button at the top, on the icons in the dock, on the menu pulldowns from the top, but not on quicktime movies, or just random other stuff... Quartz screen savers just looked jumbled. Then it just froze. So I manually restarted... same pixel pattern and a freeze. I Restarted and it didn't do anything bad for 3 days... I even put it to sleep and everything like normal and nothing bad happened. A few days later... same thing happened, and it froze a few times. This time I ran the hardware test and I got no errors, and after that it was fine. Both times it happened in the middle of the night.
Then it went a month without messing up. About a week ago however, (in the afternoon this time) it froze after coming back from sleep. Then I restarted... froze immediately. I restarted again... froze again. I ran hardware test, and it came back with a Video RAM error "2ATI/1/4: 113-xxxxx-113." (I've seen this error several times on the forums, maybe something apple needs to address...) then after that I could restart it and use it, but it had that hazy pixel pattern on certain elements or the GUI... and eventually it would freeze. Most days it lasts several hours though. Sometimes (like right now) when I start up everything looks fine, and I can use it for several hours before it eventually freezes. Just now I got curious and decided to run the hardware test... and everything was A-OK. So I don't know what the deal is. Oh, and when it freezes I can still here music and any other noise it was making, and I can move the mouse, which turns into a SBBOD. I've reset every ram chip in this computer (PRAM, NVRAM, ran [reset or restore]-all OF) Any guesses? Solutions? Questions?

Help with website layout

Hi, I need help with Dreamweaver CS4. I don't know HTML which
is why I am using this program. I am using the AP Div (Not the
Insert Div Tag) Icon at the top in the Standard Layout tab accessed
by the icon at the top of the panel in the classic layout mode.
Here is my problem. I am trying to make sure the text and
spacing is the same as much as possible from browser to browser.
The spacing between the lines (leading) is different. Sometimes the
text jumps out of the box or text lines get cut off and looks
jumbled. My pages are layed out with a bunch of AP divs so I can
place them wherever I want. For example I draw one AP div (which
has the square box in at the left top) and then another one below.
Even though they are not touching, the browser displays them
overlapping with the text clashing. Or sometimes text just runs
wild. I've tried to use tables but they are too limiting and I am
not being able to place them freely. Is that because browsers do
not recognize CSS? How do I get at least a decent consistency
between browsers? What am I doing wrong?

your web browser to show you the code view for the page and/or do a
"Save As" and save the page to your computer to then copy &
paste code segments into your file (in IE click View at the top,

Preview and design mode issues

I would like to report a couple of glitches in Muse.
Problem #1:
I had a pair of photos that I added some text with in a separate text box. I had problems with alignment, so I put the photos into a slideshow with the text:
I hit enter to space everything out properly, and a portion of the text moves above where I want it, and overlaps existing text, and the column shrinks:
If I hit enter again, then delete, the text moves back to where I want it to go.
Problem #2:
On occasion, when I preview a page I am designing, it looks jumbled with text in places I never put it and opacity is reduced, like it's under layers. I deleted all text on the page and re-previewed with no difference in how it appeared, text still jumbled and out of place with text I just deleted. I revert to last saved and luckily that fixes it, but it sets me back a few steps. I didn't save any screen shots from that fiasco, but I did with the next one that occurred:
in Design mode I added the red links on the left of the Home page like this:
Preview showed a mess with the text I have on the master page like this, no links, and nav tabs placed above everything:
I have sent this to Adobe for a response with my export file and screen shots and haven't heard anything back yet.

What is shown in "Plan mode" is consistent with what I have designed, but I can't get it

Shuffled Playlist Question

Instead of having to navigate back and fourth between the Settings menu and the Music menus, is it possible to create a Playlist (or SPL) that contains the majority of my collection but shuffles the music? I've tried a variety of set ups that look like they will work when viewed through iTunes, but when played through the iPod they play everything in order (ie not shuffled).

Well I hear what you are saying, but as you pointed out, these things seem to be beyond the current capability of the iPod. On that same note, this 5th Gen video iPod I have is my very first iPod and while I do love it, I am actually rather shocked at the limited features it has or what I feel are obvious things it should be able to do but doesn't.
Ya, as each new generation of iPod has come along Apple made big steps forward in the big things it could do, like black and white to a color screen then to showing photos then doing video. But the little features (that are just programming) that should have been added to the user interface, seem to have been forgotten.
Here is an example of one that to me would have been an obvious user interface features: Being able to delete a song from the iPod and then (maybe optionally) have that same song removed from the iTunes library when you sync. How many times have you been out and about with your iPod, a song comes one, maybe one of the last tracks of a new album you recently imported and you think to yourself, "well this song is a dud"? I want to delete it from my iPod and my library. So I either have to remember what song it is or make a note somewhere (by the way, I often end up with a post it note on the back of my iPod at work just for that purpose). It would be easier to have a built in delete function on the iPod or at the very least, a "delete me" flag you can turn on so when you get back to your computer, iTunes can show you the ones you tagged to be removed.
Another feature I would like to see for the color iPods is the ability to change screen and font color. Since there is no way to actually dim the LCD screen (another missing feature) at night, in a dark car, etc. that screen can be really overly bright. So how about being able to change the screen color from white to a less bright color like dark blue. Or how about a night mode where the screen is black and the font is white? Or how about a night vision mode with a red screen so you don't ruin your night vision? Obviously if the iPod can show video, having screen and font colors changeable should be super easy.
Then there are the weird things. For example, I play a few songs on the iPod. I then go and look in the Recently Played list. The songs are there but it seems to be a sort of random order. The songs I just played are not at the top like in iTunes, but are towards the bottom, and not in the order I played them. I haven't bothered to figure out the order they are in but it is probably something that makes little sense like sort by date, then by artist name, but the list only shows song titles, so it looks jumbled. Weird.
So that is my long winded way to say, your idea of a changing play list with a dynamic shuffle sounds great, but considering I can not even remove a song from the iPod without a computer, must be blinded by the light if I touch the controls of my iPod while in a dark car, and my choices of screen and font colors are about the same as Henry Ford offered on his cars, don't hold your breath!
