Score Slide

I accidentally deleted the Score slide (Captivate 4), will it return automatically?

Hello,
No problem: go into Quiz, Quiz Preferences, Settings and activate 'Show scores at end of quiz'. The score slide will be back. Normally you got a message, telling that, when you deleted the score slide.

  • Quiz Score Slide - Review Questions

    Hi all,
I have put a number of discussions now and still can't seem to get this to work.
Once a user has completed the quiz and got to the quiz score slide to find out if they have passed or failed - for both I would like them to be able to 'review answers'. I know there is a review quiz but this just tells them what they got wrong or right and not why.
I have searched on Captivate and online to figure out how to make this work. I would like the user to be able to go through each slide and when there is a question they got wrong, there is an explanation for them.
Is this possible and how do I do it?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
You can have a slide as an explanation slide next to your quiz slides. You can use a conditional advanced action under On Enter property of the explanation slide. With the help of a variable called cpQuizInfoLastSlidePointScored, you will check whether the last answer was correct or not and have the explanation slide show/hide accordingly. For example, if each question in your project has 10 points associated. The variable will check whether the last question slide scored points were equal to 10, if yes then jump to next question slide and if no then go to the explanation slide.
Here is how it will look in the advanced action window:
Where Slide 4 is the next question slide and Slide 3 is the explanation slide.
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks!

  • Provide feedback button in quiz score slide

Hi we have created a training using adobe captivate 6.  We have kept a final quiz containing 5 questions.  At the end there is a score slide.  In case of passing of the quiz we want a button called feedback to appear. The button needs to be hyperlinked to a url.  How can we do this?

cpQuizInfoPassPercent has the required percentage for passing, whereas cpQuizInfoPassFail can have only two possible values: 0 if failed, 1 if passed.  So your condition will never result in true. The explanation of the system variables appears in the Variables dialog box, check them out.
I'm using the normal language of conditions: THEN is in the same view of the dialog box for actions, second portion, whereas for Else you have to click on the Else button.
The Pass/Fail actions for the Quiz you specify in the Quiz Preferences will only be done when the user clicks on the Continue button on the score slide. Because you asked for the button when entering the score slide, I proposed this work flow.
Some functionalities are extended in CP6, will certainly blog about it to compare with what I wrote for previous versions here:

  • Quiz Timer Not Jumping to Score Slide for Submit All Quiz

I've followed the instructions for the TimeCheck advanced action posted by Lilybiri (http://lilybiri.posterous.com/timer-widget-to-stress-your-learners), but it doesn't work for me. Am wondering if it is because I am doing something wrong or because I have the Submit All option selected in the Quiz Preferences. Any ideas?
My goal is to have a countdown timer for a quiz that automatically jumps to the score slide when the time expires.

    Hi,
It will not be functional anymore, because I checked and the variable associated with the Timer widget is not updated anymore. Moreover, one is limited in characters used for the variable., underscores are not possible anymore, variable always starts with a capital etc. I do not know what has changed in this widget, have been asking for an explanation but got no answer yet. For the moment the Timer widget is pretty useless if you want to do an action based on the value of the variable. I'm very sorry and should even check all posts about widgets (there are quite a lot there) to see if other similar problems occur.
My blog proves with the example and the screenshots that this work flow has been possible in the past. No tricks there.

  • Help/ advice with score slide

    Hi,
I am trying to create a quiz using the captivate programme
and I have discovered there is a next button on the score page
which goes to a Blank screen !!. Can anyone give me advice on how I
can remove it or edit it. I have looked in the help docs but so far
    no joy.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    A

Hi A. If you intend to allow your users to "review" the test
(scoring) results, you should always leave the "Next" button
available. It allows the user to continue to the end of the movie
following the review (among other uses).
Which brings up that "blank screen" you mentioned. It is a
good practice to close the movie on a non-question (scoring) slide.
Perhaps one that ends the movie by saying "Thanks for
Participating" or whatever. Then the "Next" button will take the
user there following the quiz and review process. If there is no
slide following the last Question slide, you will see ... what you
    are seeing ...
Finally, my advice is to learn by doing. Build yourself a
short movie, say 5 slides with an "Intro" slide, 3 "Question"
slides, and a "Thank You" slide. Then play with the buttons that
are displayed, to get a better idea of their functions and required
presence (see "Movie > Quiz Manager" as well as the individual
    question-slide settings) .
Hope this sheds some light ...

  • Cap 6 - how to capture quiz score/route based on score & prob with Master slide?

Hi --Using Cap 6 on a Windows PC. I have a module with weighted questions, and want to analyze the score when the user completes the questions. If they score 69% or below, they must view the entire module. If they score between 70% and79%, then they can just take the quiz questions again. If they score 80% of better, their score is recorded in the LMS and they are given credit for the module.
    I have two challenges:
    1) The course originally was going to be an acknolwedgment-only module, so I deleted buttons from the results slide (not the results master) but when I select Reset Mater Slide in the slide properties, the deleted buttons do not re-apply onto the slide. How do I get those buttons back?
    2) I created an Advanced Action called start_over. It's simple - and the "Else" statement is "continue". I set this up in Quiz Pref. Does this also get assiend as an Action on the slide properties?
Result is that the quiz just stops. The quiz results slide displays - but without any content. If you select play again from the skin, the next slide is displayed.
I have searched forum, etc., but can't find a solution -- I need to re-create this scenario for several other modules too. Thanks in "Advance" for help!
    G

About your second question, think you are using the wrong system variable. It is hard to read, but I think you use cpQuizInfoQuizPassPercent, which is the percentage required for passing. And you should have used cpInfoPercentage, which is the percentage acquired by the learner. Have a look at my blog post about system variables:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/system-variables-in-captivate-6
But I don't think you need such an action for Quiz Preferences? Because you have two possible actions there: Success action and Failure action? Why need an advanced acton for a simple Jump?
As for the score slide: Quiz Preferences, Settings: click the button Quiz Result Messages under Show score slide and you'll be able to mark the fields you want to show.
You can also create a custom score slide:

  • Add smart shape in caption on quiz slide

    Hi!
I´m trying to add a smart shape on a question slide in the failure and success captions. However, the shapes aren´t visible and I can´t add audio which is my main purpose. I want the participant to have the option to click on the smart shape when they have answered a question and the success or failure caption shows, and by clicking on the shape the audio plays. Adding smart shapes with this function on other parts of the question slides works fine, I just have problems with the failure and success captions.
    I use Captivate version 8.
    Kind regards, Gunilla

@andreleal Just to rectify: in Captivate 8 you can replace the default captions by default shapes, there is a style for bot in the OSM. When you check this option, it is not only valid for Success/Failure/Hint captions on interactive objects but also on Question slides. I never use captions anymore when I can avoid them.
But I don't think that is what the OP was asking for. He wants to insert a shape in the SHF captions to create a shape button that can trigger an audio clip. Inserting something interactive in a caption has never been possible. And inserting an interactive object on a question slides is only possible, within limits for shape buttons. Maybe some clarification, although not the exact solution in this blog post:

  • Remove slide from quiz review/retry

    Hi there,
I have a course with some interactions and one drop-down select question and then there is a 25 question quiz at the end. I want to allow the user to retry the quiz but when I do, they get taken back to the drop-down question (even though report answers is not selected) and not to the first question of the 25 question quiz.
How can I make that earlier question slide separate and not be included in the "Retry" of the quiz at the end of my course?
    Thanks in advance

I just warned in another thread for that issue when you have questions that are not really included in the total score. Another issue is that some system variables will include those non-reported questions as well.
System variables in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog
The only workaround I have (you can find such an answer several times in the forum) is to create a conditional advanced (or shared) action that you trigger On Enter for the not-to-be included questions. If there is no possibility for the user to navigate in a non-linear way, using that action on the first of those non-reported question slides or interactions will be sufficient.
In that action you can use the quizzing system variable cpQuizInfoAttempts. As I explain in the table with vars (see link I offered) this variable is incremented when a new Quiz Attempt starts. The action will be something like:
IF cpQuizInfoAttempts is greater than 1
Jump to QuestReal1              where QuestReal1 is the first question of the real quiz, that has to be retaken
    ELSE
       Continue
The knowledge questions will also be reset, but I don't think that matters. Sorry, have to edit: dropdown interactions are reset when getting to a slide, not because Retake has been used on the score slide.

  • Quiz slide not advance when using question pools and advance answer options?

    Hi,
I am using CP 5.5. I created a small test where I have just 2 question in a question pool.  The questions are using the advanced answer options to show some specific feedback. When I insert the questions in to the project using a random question slide, after the user answers where you should be able to press Y or click to move on, I click, but nothing happens.  You can't get off the quiz slide.  The quiz slides work fine when they are inserted in the project as reqular quiz slides, but not when they are being pulled from a question pool.
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? Anyone else run in to this?
    Thanks!
      Lori

I was having the same problem on the last Random Question slide (total 10 RQ slides), and was able to fix it by following the next steps:
Make sure Quiz: Pass or Fail actions are set to Continue for both Passing and Failing actions in the quiz preferences.
Delete the RQ slide not advancing, then duplicate one of the RQ slides working, and assign your question pool to the new slide if different from the original duplicate. This step will make sure you are using a good working RQ slide.
For some reason, my last RQ slide was corrupted and wasn't advancing to the Score slide at the end of the quiz.
I can finally finish this project.
    Good luck.

  • Captivate 5 - Move to non-quiz slide sets remaining unanswered questions as skipped

I have a captivate 5 project where all of the first slides are general content prior to the quiz questions at the end.
Just before the quiz, I have a slide that summarizes all the answers. Each quiz question is given 4 attempts to
answer them correctly. If tester exceeds 4 attempts, I do a jump to the slide that is a summary (ahead of the
question slides). When the test is stepped into, it correctly keeps the questions that were answered but then
has set all questions after the jump back slide to 'skipped'.
    Any way around this?
    Thanx.

Continue button on the Score slide will execute the actions you specify in Quiz, Preferences for Pass/Fail. Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog has more details on functionality of question/score slides.
If you are on CP6 or later, you can add shape buttons on question/score slide: Buttons on Question/Score Slides in Captivate 6? - Captivate blog  has some more details about that feature.

  • Quiz score page font formatting?

I've created a quiz in Captivate 6. I have formatted the quiz results page to look the way I would like it to. This includes changing the font, color and style of the score variables that are displayed when a student completes a quiz. Any color formatting of the font for those variables works just fine, but no matter what font face or style (bold, italic, etc) I change it to, it always displays in Times regular when actually using the quiz after publishing. Is there something I'm missing or is it just not possible to change the font face of those auto-populated results?  Seems like a pretty basic function.

The variable for the percentage that the user got is cpInfoPercentage. I agree, it should also have Quiz in it, but hasn't. That has confused a lot of users up till now.
Download my descriptive list with all system variables, link is in this post:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/system-variables-in-captivate-6
You can show a message (text container) based on the value of cpQuizInfoPassFail.
Here is another post that could be useful:

Be sure I don't earn a dime with that blog, only started it to avoid always having to explain the same things in the forums.

  • Reviewing Slides On Wrong Answer?

When in questions is there a way of reviewing previous slides when a wrong answer is given; for example:
A standard presentation of 50 slides is viewed and then candidates are taken to the question slides
If question 1 is answered correctly it moves onto question 2
if question 2 is answered incorrectly the candidate is then taken taken to the relevant slide (say slide 30) and returned to question 2 for another attempt.
The only way I have managed to do this so far is to do a slight workaround by changing the way the reporting works i.e. duplicating the relevant reiew slides and putting them after the question slides.  Unfortunately this means the only way I can record their scores is to show quiz attempt not the native scoring results because on each review (out of the quiz) it resets the scores and shows an overall quiz fail for each wrong answer.  This obviously isn't the correct way of reporting quiz scores i.e.
    Number of questions set
    Incorrect answers
    Correct answers
    Percentage
    Pass/Fail
This means that using this workaround I'm not getting the level of reporting normally available
So my question is simply, is there a proper way I can record the correct scores and still retain the ability to review wrong answers?  This approach encourages a pro-active way to learn instead of penalising people for incorrect answers and allows them to learn without having to sit through a long presentation more than once - hence me wanting keep this style and be able to get full featured reporting.
I apologise if I'm being a little long-winded in my explanation or indeed if I'm missing something pretty basic with the software.
Many thanks in advance for anyone that may be able to help me with this
    Kind regards
    Martyn

    Hello Martyn
Do not know if this has anything to do with etiquette, just did not know if you were asking me or the other user more help.
As we both explained: with the Question slides that are in CP (will call them the default Quiz slides) this will not be that easy. You will have to give a lot of attempts for the Quiz to the user to make this possible. There is no way to change the system variables that store the score (such as cpQuizInfoTotalProjectPoints). If you want to realize your workflow you need to construct the Question slides yourself. That is why I offered some articles I published about this subject in CP5.
You are not the first to ask for this kind of workflow, plan to work out an example but that will not be done today because of other priorities (some exams to be graded are waiting for me). The idea in steps is:
Create your question slides using non-interactive objects like text captions, images and interactive ones buttons, text entry or click boxes (that get a score); this will not be possible for all kind of Question types, dragging p.e. as for matching or sequence questions is not possible, hotspot is possible.
Be sure that all slides (to be reviewed before giving a second answer after an incorrect answer) are in the quizzing range (between first scored 'thing' and the score slide)
On incorrect answer, create an advanced action that jumps to the slide(s) to be reviewed; on finishing those slides have an action that returns them to the question slide.
On re-entering the question slide, re-initialize the score (to 0 if there is no 'penalty' because of the review) so that the user can answer again.
Is this the workflow that you want? Which kind of question slides are you using? Is there a 'penalty' if the review possibility is used, I mean is the score that can be obtained lower than the first one?

  • Results slide showing all question pool results not just the ones completed.

I have several question pools which have the option to be taken independently or separately.
If the user does not take all seven of the modules then the quiz results slide at the end is incorrect as it will report all of the questions not just the ones attempted.
I have tried the Branch aware option in the quiz results option but that did not worth.
It this an easy fix or does it require me to add a variable count for each correct answer.
    Many thanks
    Rick

Branch aware should be just fine for that case, why do you tell it is not working? Branch Aware Quiz - Captivate blog
When you say 'score slide is not reporting correctly', I had no such problems.
You could create a custom score slide indeed, using variables, but what if you have to report as a SCORM? Only possibility in that case is Branch aware.

  • CP7 - quiz slides continue to play after timeline

I'm using quiz slides with audio in Captivate 7.
The audio plays, I choose an answer and click Submit, then click Y to continue, and whether I'm right or wrong, the playbar is only 1/2 - 2/3 way through the slide.  So I have to wait while the slide plays out, long after the audio (and the slide) ends.
The Results slide that follows is hidden, with the option turned off in Preferences, so the quiz slide is usually the last slide of the project.
Does anyone know what's going on?
    Thanks for any help,
    Marion

Default pausing point for question slides (and score slide) is half its timeline. With the default timeline duration of 3 secs this means that after the two-step process still 1.5secs has to go.
Have a look at my explanations, and tweaking possibilities:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-part-2
You can move the pausing point more towards the end, but only with the mouse (there is no Timing accordion). Or you can change the Continue option to 'Go to Next Slide' both for Success/Failure.
BTW this is nothing new, has always been the case. The posts were written for previous versions.
I would recommend to add a last slide after the last question slide, it doesn't have to be the Score slide, certainly if you want to report to a LMS (allow little bit of time to CP)

  • Quiz stuck on a slide after failing and retaking

    Hi,
I have a quiz which hangs on a particular slide after user retakes it. The slide appears with the objects prearranged (draggable shapes) and the user cannot actually drag any smart shape. Hence stuck in there...
Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks a lot! (sorry as I'm new to this)
    D

Maybe my questions are not clear, but I'm now even more confused: I asked if it was a drag&drop interaction OR a matching/sequence question (which has dragging functionality) and you answer 'drag & drop and it's about matching items'
If it is Drag&Drop, it is not considered a normal question slide, that is the reason why Retake will not be functional on that slide. Retake button on the score slide will only clear answers of normal question slides.
