Scored Items not starting at beginning on second try.
I have a movie that has no actual quiz items yet when the
student exits the course I want the LMS course summary page to read
Completed - 100%, Passed. Score - 100%. I can achieve this on our
IBM LMS by adding a scored interaction on my Next button on the
next to last page. Works great. I get the results displayed that I
want.
The issue comes up when the student launches the course a
second time. Not many do, but occasionally it happens. For some
reason the movie does not begin on the first page. It launches and
jumps to the page after the scored button, skipping the entire
movie. I have tried moving the scored button to the first page, but
the movie after launching jumps to a screen in the middle of the
presentation. There is no logical reason as to why it jumps to the
middle screen, it just does. I have tried placing the the scored
interaction in a number of different places and even having
multiple scored interactions, nothing seems to work. Any
suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for
your help.
CitizenseLearning,
I have very limited experience with working with an LMS so
take this for what it is worth, but this sounds like it may have
something to do with bookmarking within the LMS itself. I say this
since Captivate does not contain any kind of bookmarking capability
itself and should always start on the first page unless there is an
outside app (Flash actions script, LMS bookmarking, etc.) telling
it to do otherwise.

Motion audio not starting at beginning
I am using an mp3 file for my menu background audio, and have burned 3 DVDs with no problem. This morning I do the same project, except that it contained 5 m2vs instead of 3, so I made a DL disc. I always create a DVD floder, then preview it in VLC or other video players. The problem is that the timing starts at the 5 second mark. Tested it in 3 other programs, all the same. It shows the full length of the audio (38 sec) but only 33 sec play.
Any ideas what I should be looking for to correct this??
thanks,
GlennGlenn Fausel wrote:
In response, how did I use it differently?? the size of the project should not make a difference should it??
From this part from your original post: "This morning I do the same project, except that it contained 5 m2vs instead of 3"
From that sentence, I gathered that you had three video clips in the same timeline, and then five (Encore timelines since version 2 can contain multiple video clips). But now it's clearer to me that you had three timelines, and then five timelines. That is correct, yes?
So the same timeline that worked with the mp3 file earlier does not work now...that is very strange. Nothing else changed in that timeline?
Note: I still recommend you don't use mp3 files in Encore, which has to decompress them to recompress for Dolby Digital. Not all mp3 encoders (or decoders) are created equal. Avoid them and give Encore what it wants to work with: uncompressed audio. -

Songs intermittently not starting at beginning on 10.1
After upgrading to 10.1, some songs randomly play at different points in the song when selected. I don't have "remember position" enabled for them. It is very frustrating and new behavior from previous verions of iTunes. Anybody else having this issue? I'm playing the mp3s back on an iPhone 4.
This is likely your iPhone skipping from the beginning of songs. I have the exact same thing on my new iPhone 4. I had a 3GS that was doing the exact same thing, and I upgraded to the iPhone 4 in hopes of having flawless playback. Wrong! Same exact problem. I also noticed it skipping when I was playing songs off of it through iTunes.
And the thing is, it's completely random. Sometimes the songs will play back perfectly, then other times they could start 1, 2, or 5 seconds in, or then maybe 2 minutes in. Or anywhere in between.
I bought my iPhone to have the capability of being able to 'do it all'... and that includes listening to music. Is it too much to expect perfect playback? Nope.
I hope there is s simple fix for this issue, but seeing as how this problem dates back over 12 months in my case, I'm not holding out any hope.
More to your point, I'm not certain if it's an iTunes problem, but seeing as how I had the same issues, I'd look into your iPhone. One test is of course to just play the songs with some headphones. Another is to FFWD from song to song and see how many times your songs DON'T start at 0:00.

MLB on Apple TV not starting from beginning of live game when Play is pressed
I have an Apple TV 2nd Generation and have been using the MLB.tv app.
Only compalint: When I select a game, Apple TV tells be to press Select to play live and Play to start from the beginning.
However, when I press play or select, I am taken to the live game, which is a drag.
Anyone experiencing the same problem?Hi christoph, this is one of those headbangers.
the AAC and mpeg or exported as mp3 files both do it, which yes, is totally weird.
So, i can get the context menu, right clicking or cntl click, but what option is there to set it to new, as you suggest.
Thanks for your efforts

Exported audio tracks are not starting from beginning of track
I have GB '08.
I export recorded podcasts (i actually make language learning CDs using an external mic) so each track ends up at between 20 sec or say 2 mins, to an Itunes playlist. I may play a track, and then click on another, by double clicking as is usual in itunes to start a new track, EXCEPT that it starts the new track at the place it was last time when it was played, even if it is its first time played in itunes, but was listened to some point whilst in garage band.
so the tracks dont start at the beginning of the track but rather where they were left off when last listened too. This happens also on my ipod with those tracks and i have to manually drag a track's progress bar back to the beginning to hear it from its start.
This is a disaster for my product. Is it a bug or is it a setting? Please help urgently.
Many thanks, CraigHi christoph, this is one of those headbangers.

Toshiba Satellite P105 Does Not Start up
I have Satellite P105 which was purchase almost 3 years ago (No warranty). It has a display problem and hence I use an external monitor as the primary display. Till last week, it was working okay. Last Sunday, I shut down the machine and since then it is not at all starting. When the power button is pressed, the power light glows, the HDD light blinks for a second or so and then nothing happens. It I keep the power button pressed for 5 seconds, the power LED goes off. This is happening on battery as well as on AC adapter. Also I have tried this with external monitor as well as without it but no improvement. It even does not go to BIOS setup or no BIOS message is displayed. If I insert any disk in optical drive (when the pwoer LED is glowing), it tries to read the disk and then again nothing happens. I tried replacing the RAM module but the result is same. Recently, when it was working okay, while booting, it used to give a beeping sound till windows screen appeared.
Since I am using external monitor, I might have closed the lid while the shutdown was taking place when I switched it off last time..
Can any one suggest what is wrong and how to solve this issue?Hi,
Thanks for your help and the probable suggestions.
The model No is S6024 and the power adapter is working okay. Anyway, I could solve the problem by doing following. I am not sure if that is what solved the issue but there are highly chances that this could be a solution since that was my last effort to start it again.
I opened up the compuer (thanks a ton to www.irisvista.com for that), located the CMOS battery and disconnected the battery from motherboard for about 20 minutes. After connecting the battery again, I re-assembeled computer and then started it again. The initial start was not encouraging but after the second try (it took slighly longer than usual to start this time) it showed the boot screen and it booted without any problems. I had to adjust the date (which is an indication that CMOS was resetted) but now it is booting without any problems.
Thanks to everybody who has gone through this post and tried to help in whatever manner they can. -
HP TouchSmart application will not start
We purchased an HP IQ 526 TouchSmart desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit machine approximately two months ago. We use Clearwire to connect to the internet. About a month ago the HP TouchSmart applilcation stopped working. It will not start. Every time we try to start it we get the following error message:
HP TouchSmart Calendar has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Sometimes it says it's the HP TouchSmart Notes has stopped working or one of the other TouchSmart applications. I went to hp.com and updated all of the software for the TouchSmart application and Windows Vista. And I reguarly use Windows Update to ensure my OS is current with Microsoft security updates. I also updated the firmware. After these actions and rebooting many times the application would still not start. At this point I contacted HP customer support. We uninstalled HP TouchSmart, then reinstalled. This didn't work. I continue to see information events in the Windows Application Log almost every minute regarding HPTouchSmartCalendarNotes. They are typically the following messages over and over:
Reminder clock elapsed event is successfully fired.
CheckReminder() is executed successfully.
ShowReminder() is executed successfully.
After Fetching the XML nodes, checking for each node is done successfully in ShowReminder()
Events in Events.xml Before Showing Reminder<DataRoot></DataRoot>
I still have a case open with HP support and they said uinstalling the OS and reinstalling is likely the next step but I have to believe someone else has run into this issue or HP has a QFE for this issue. I really do not want to uninstall the OS and reinstall it. This has become very frustrating as the HP TouchSmart application is the primary reason we purchased the computer so my wife can manage our photos and music collection via the touch screen.
If anyone has seen this before or has a solution I would love to hear about it. We are considering taking the computer back if we can not resolve this issue.
On a related note and this might be a separate issue I continuously get HPTCS stopped working messages. I've searched the internet for what HPTCS.exe is and what is does but there is little to no information available.
Please let me know or if there is additional information I could provide that would be useful for troubleshooting.
Cheers,
GOur machine was sent back to HP and they reformatted our hard drive and sent it back. Wow. Fantastic service. NOT!!!! I could have done that. Without debugging their own software to figure out why this was happening they reformatted the hard drive. I can only expect this problem will happen again since there must be a software update, etc... that is causing this behavior. I honestly do not know how to voice my disgust in their customer service. I have been a long time fan of HP and we basically only buy HP at work but this was the poorest display of customer service I have ever encountered. If your TouchSmart application stops working and the TouchSmart software updates do not resolve the problem you might as well pretend like you bought a normal computer without touch capabilities. Like buying an iPhone without it behaving like an iPhone.

Premiere Elements 12.0 not starting or aborting with AppCrash
Hi,
I do experience a strange problam with PE 12.0 . Starting it either aborts with an Appcrash error message or does not start at all whenever I try to open an existing project or when creating a new project. If I leave it alone the organizer starts.
Renaming the prefs-file in C:/Users/ab/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0 as has been suggested in another thread did not work.
Any hints what I can do to get a working installation again (apart from reinstalling) ?

Apple Moblie Device service is not started - Cannot be started.
Running Windows 7 64bit and iTunes 10.1.0.54
I've been able to sync my iPod in the past. Now, when I plug it in, I get the message "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Moblie Device service is not started."
Ok, so I try to start the Apple mobile device service. I get the following error: "Windows could not start the Apple Moblie Device service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The Process terminated unexpectedly."
When I check my error log I see: "The Apple Mobile Device service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 56 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service."
I've gone through the steps to uninstall every component of apple products found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925 to no avail. I've even gone through the verification step and no folders/files exist after uninstall. Still no dice upon reinstall.
I've been uninstalling/reinstalling and googleing for a solution for about 3 hours now and haven't found a solution. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
VyxI have Norton Security Suite and under (on norton)settings/firewall/programs find mobiledeviceservice instead of automatic i changed it to allow worked for me.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
Otherwise, you may be in a bad situation indeed, with the only remedies being quite drastic:

KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
KB27956 How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state
Hopefully you already have a good backup of your BB, as these measures typically do not allow for any to now be taken.
Good luck and let us know!

Firefox will not start any more.
Firefox will not start. (reported as a hang)
Try Application > Utilities > Activity Monitor and look in the Process Name column to see if there is a version of Firefox there. If so, select it and then hit the Quit Process icon.
Restart Firefox.
Recently, Firefox has repeatedly started hanging on my 10.7.2 iMac.
If that is not it, try Carolyn's suggestion.
