Scoring and saving points.Help for a neewbie please.

Hi folks - Im a novice (but keen and pretty quick on the uptake!) xcode 4.3.2 programmer (and coding generally) so please be patient and supportive!
I'm developing an iPhone app that asks a simple question, invites user to press a button 1-5 in response then stores that number. The user is then invited to go to the next question.
This process is repeated 10 times. i.e 10 questions.
Upon completion of all 10 questions, the app then takes the three lowest numbers, shows what they are along with a written response for that particular combination. when the user has read it they can store it for later use also.
The idea is that the user learns from the written response (they can read them again at their leisure anytime), and then takes the 'test' again after a pre-determined period (x days) and (hopefully!) sees an improvement. This process will be repeated: test-score/response-store, test-score/response-store etc etc for as many times as necessary.
Ive developed the user interface - the user selects an image on a table view in response to the question, moves on to the next question etc - and its all connected up as a story board. It works great & looks good. However, Im struggling with learning the underlying  code - to perform the functions I've stated above. Ive looked at tutorials from variuous sources and found some of them very helpful - particularly with storyboard dvelopment - but I've found nothging that meets my needs for the coding. So I'm hoping someone can take me under their wing with some coding, or point me in the direction of some well tailored tutorials - or some combination of both!
Ive found that the storyboard approach to app development really works for me since I come from an interactive dvd development background - but story board is noy the whole story (pun intended!) or can it be?
I look forward to the day that I can offer support on these forums, and that day will come but for now I could really use some help.
Thanks...and I sit here with baited breath!

Hi
Can anyone tell me if there is a better or more suitable place to post this sort of question please?
Thanks,

  • In need of some experienced and willing Mac help for a Macnewb, Please!=)

Hello & thank you for giving me some of your time & looking at my topic. I am very new to the Macworld & am having some unidentified issue(s) with a mid2010 MBP such as: firefox & Safari both frequently crashing & refusing to load pages, general system slowing and freezes, many force quits required for various (nonpattern) apps. After a brief visit to the Safari forum I decided to have another look at the console logs but came up short for crash logs that really coincided with the freuqunt issues occuring. A Sagitarius, I am never satisfied with the results unless they achieve what I intend them too, I continued to peruse the log, after all its only a log(right?) & I dont believe someone with basic, albeit limited, knowledge could screw up things via the logs but Ive been wrong, none the less , I did not touch(alter) anything. What I did come across in the "private/var/log:kernel.log" was something that even with my limited knowledge apears somewhat suspicious, enough that I believe it warented my first 'copy & paste for assistance purposes' , to date, despite having suffered through windowsWHATEVER for all my life prior to about 3 months ago. {{SOrry, I dont intend to be long winded but I acknowledge my tenancy to being overly throrough & my inability to leave out my personality as well. }}Thank you once again.

  • CP5: Scoring and Quiz Result Slides for Selected Questions

    Hello World,
I am trying to create a course that has several "knowledge checks" that don't need to be scored or tracked, and then a 10 question quiz at the end that needs to be scored and tracked.
Does anyone know of a way to separate those two elements so that the Quiz Results slide does not include any of my "knowledge check" data and just gives the user details of the 10 question quiz? I would also like to use the progress bar, but only for the final 10 questions.
Alternatively, if the quiz result screen separated out the results of the knowledge checks from the quiz, that would work as well.
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Hello,
If you use the Question slides that come with Captivate, all the slides will be added to the total score because you can only have one Quiz in a CP-file.
Some ideas: you could set the score of the first (not te be tracked) slides to 0, or if possible change the questions from scored to survey (will not be scored).
If by Progress you mean the indication 'Question X of Y', there you will need to make your own counters, with user variables and advanced actions. If you want to have total control of your question slides you could create the first bunch of questions yourself and only use the default Question slides for the real last Quiz. Just published a blog post today with some links to articles about customizing Quizzes. Feel free to check it:

  • Help for a novice please

My Mum has BT total broadband and is having problems. I've been mauling about with cables, hubs etc all afternoon and the fastest speed I can get is 0.13mb.
Can anyone help cos am fast losing patience. thanks

If you've been constantly rebooting and re-connecting then you may well have driven down the IP profile. If that's the case, the best thing is patience.
You don't say what the stats from your router are. If your connection speed is significantly above the speed you are actually achieving, then stop fiddling and leave everything alone for 3 days and you may find it fixes itself.

  • Some help for an idiot please

    Hello,
I have made some changes to the SystemInfo Application (<drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\tcmonitoringsysteminfo) that I am happy with.
How do I take the whole application now and stick it into a war file so that I can deploy it properly?
The SAP original file is called SystemInfo.war. I can open that with winzip - can I just put my changes into it and zip it again with winzip and rename it to .war?
Or can I import a war into the Developer Studio, do the changes there and then build a new war file (please explain in plain english how that works if it works).
Please do excuse my ignorance in this field, as you can guess I havent done much Java Programming .
    Thanks for out thoughts!

    Andi

  • Excel 2004 and saving webpages - help!

I'm working on a project where we're trying to save a large number of excel sheets as html so we can link them together in various ways. As the only person in the office who can write html, I'm stuck with it. The problem is, using the 'save as webpage' function in excel gives webpages that look rubbish and unprofessional, but we don't have the time to format each page individually to the degree I would like.
It seems such an obvious thing to have an option where the 'save as webpage' step can be modified, or to allow users to run the sheets through a custom template when saving as html. But I can't see a way of doing that in Excel 2004.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to make Excel work my way, or failing that, if there's a decent shareware program or something around that will help me?
    Cheers,
    Suz
    iBook 600   Mac OS X (10.1.x)

    Hi, Suz.
I don't have an answer for you, but I know where you may find one.
You might want to search or post on the "Excel" group you can find on the Microsoft Mac Support - Newsgroups page. These are Google Groups with active participation from MS Excel users, including a variety of expert users.
Be sure to state the version of Excel you are using if you post there, as you did here.
I don't mean to send you somewhere else, but I've found numerous answers there for folks with questions related to MS products. Accordingly, it has often proved to be the first, best place to look for answers to questions such as you are asking.
As to freeware or shareware that may help you with this, let me also suggest that you search MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings can be helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
FWIW, I've often found the results of the "Save as HTML" features of applications to be disappointing. Usually they perform only the most basic conversion and one then has to perform a good bit of tweaking to make the pages presentable.
As a final note, if your budget will permit, you might want to look at FileMaker Pro. Data from the Excel files can easily be imported into FileMaker and FileMaker has many features for publishing databases to the Web.
    Good luck!

  • Drawing and some layout help for a simple control: thin lines and application start

I am trying to create a new, simple control. The control should act as a grouping marker much like that found in the Mathematica notebook interface. It is designed to sit to the right of a node and draw a simple bracket. The look of the bracket changes depending on whether the node is logically marked open or closed.
After looking at some blogs and searching, I tried setting the snapToPixels to true in the container holding the marker control as well as the strokewidth but I am still finding that the bracket line is too thick. I am trying to draw a thin line. Also, I am unable to get the layout to work when the test application is first opened. One of the outer brackets is cut-off. I hardcoded some numbers into the skin just to get something to work.
Is there a better way to implement this control?
How can I get the fine line drawn as well as the layout correct at application start?

The test interfaces are already defined for you - the 3rd party session bean remote/local interfaces.
It is pretty trivial to create implementations of those interfaces to return the test data from your XML files.
There are a number of ways to handle the switching, if you have used the service locator pattern, then I would personally slot the logic in to the service locator, to either look up the 3rd party bean or return a POJO test implementation of the interface according to configuration.
Without the service locator, you are forced to do a little more work, you will have to implement your own test session beans to the same interfaces as the 3rd party session beans.
You can then either deploy them instead of the 3rd party beans or you can deploy both the test and the 3rd party beans under different JNDI names, and use ejb-ref tags and allow you to switch between test and real versions by changing the ejb-link value.
    Hope this helps.

  • Editing and saving individual clips for import into iDVD

I've begun a large project digitizing many old family 8mm projector films. Each reel, varying in size from 3 to 20 min, was imported into iMovie HD 6 as individual clips. These clips are, in a sense, self contained movies. I want to use iMovie to mute the sounds, add a soundtrack, and make some visual adjustments. My goal is to create an iDVD project with several submenus based on location, in each menu will be a list of the reels (iMovie clips), that took place in each location.
I've figured out how to do everything except saving and exporting edited clips to iDVD. Since iMovie is set up to create one movie per project (the timeline represents one movie, right?), I can import individual clips into iDVD but they aren't edited. What I want to be able to do is drag one clip into the timeline, make my adjustments, save it, put it back with the other clips to be imported in iDVD, and repeat the process. Is this possible in iMovie? Should I get something else like Final Cut Express?

I gather that what you want to do is modify the clips and save them as self contained movies for eventual import into iDVD.
Edit your clip in iMovie, add your sound track, and then File/Export/compress movie for Full Quality to your desktop as a self contained Quicktime Movie. Each of these self contained Quicktime Movies can be dragged into your iDVD project by dragging them to the edge of the main iDVD menu window.

  • Saving settings/help for plugins

I have noticed that certain settings get saved when I open a new project. Is there any way to tell which ones will be saved and whatnot when you are setting them up? Key commands, preferences, all that kind of stuff. Is there a tried-and-true list of "global" settings that are changed through logic every single time you touch them? If so, where is the list?
Also, are there any help/descriptions of each of the plugins within logic? Some of them have so many settings that my face hurts after a few minutes of editing. Would love some help on this one friends!
    -Mike

Basically, all key commands and preferences are Global, meaning they remain set once you set them.
However, settings that fall under "Projects Settings" (File >Project Settings) are song specific.
As too plug-ins, go under the help menu and open the "Logic Studio Instruments and Effects" PDF, and look up the specific plug-in, any time your face starts to hurt.

  • Calibrating and saving a profile for a monitor then loading it for another

How do you save a calibration setting and then see it in the list of loadable calibrations for another monitor? I have identical dual monitors, but cannot seem to figure out how to share a calibration setting between the two.

yes. Even with that unchecked, each window on each monitor only shows only the user profiles I created exclusively on that particular monitor even though they both show all the same standard preset profiles.

  • Sad face and exclamation point, HELP!

My iPod mini is only 3 weeks old and it won't do anything. I have tried to reset it time and again unsuccessfully. It won't charge, it won't come up on itunes. All I get is the sad face and the apple icon. What can I do to fix it? I have tried everything they say to do on the web site. Help! Please!

    Right.
If you do have to send it in, then look at this link first...

Most likely though, you will need to do as Mark suggests

  • Creating and saving a book for a web page

I have been able to create and save as a pdf a 100 page travel book with about 195 photos. It was 89.9 mb. I gave it to my webmaster to put on my website but it is still a 10mB file that one has to download off the internet.
my questions are...if you just want to use it as such, is there a way to make the book smaller in size,, not visual size--without losing quality in viewing = less MB? Or can one save the book in another way? (the movie version is very small to see all that is written).
any advise would be most appreciated, thanks,
    tarzana

    tarzana:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. While in the book mode do a Print to PDF with the Save PDF to iPhoto option selected. That will create a jpg file of each page of the book that you can use to create an iWeb photo page and slideshow or create an iPhoto Web Gallery. I also use the same method to create an iDVD slideshow with music for each book that I make as described in Tutorial #6.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
