Scoring Markers from FCP to STP?

Hi:
I am trying to move markers from a FCP sequence to and STP multi-track project, but no matter how I do it - Export for STP, Export to QT etc, then import the moview into WTP - I get no orange scoring markers in STP. If I Send to STP, - no orange scoring markers in STP Any suggestions?
Thanks - Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
It seems to work for me. Here's what I'm doing.
First, it appears that the markers are only seen in STP when they are added to the quicktime file (via export to quicktime or for Soundtrack from FCP).
In FCP
-Add a marker to the timeline (with no clips selected, press "m" to add a marker at the playhead, then mark->markers->edit to get the marker edit window and click on the [Add Scoring Marker], then click [ok] (the markers should show up on the FCP timeline ruler)
-Export the new quicktime with scoring markers (e.g. File->export->QuickTime Movie... or File->Export->For Soundtrack...), and make sure that under Markers you select "Audio Scoring Markers" -- for somereason this is the only setting that works (selecting "All Markers" actually seems to include all markers except scoring markers. then click [Save].
Then, in STP:
-Open a multitrack project
-Drag the newly created quicktime movie (with the scoring markers) into the video window.
-Now you should see the markers.
Note: How to get a multitrack project with scoring markers
Since, the scoring markers do not come across in a send to Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project, here's what I do:
-In FCP: perform the send to Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project
-In FCP: export the movie as described above (except that I select "Include:Video only" on the QuickTime export screen)
-In STP: Open the multitrack project that was sent from FCP, then drag the quicktime movie created with mscoring markers into the video window of the multitrack project
Now you should have the multitrack Project sent from FCP with scoring markers.
I hope that helps

  • Keep chapter markers from fcp 7 to dvd studio 4

    might've posted this before...
ive used iDVD for a while and know the preference for the chapter markers from FCP 7 to iDVD.  finally using Studio pro trying to firgure out about automatic chapter markers.  I edited it in FCP X and exported it to make the chapters in FCP 7
I have a few different format files
    from FCP 7
8.03 gig DVD studio chapter marked
        8.03 gig compression marked
    then in compression
    best quality 90 min DVD
A dolby Digital Pro 2 says "the destiation does not have read/write access"
    or the mpeg 2     6.2mbps 2 pass      """"""
then I tried using individual clips from fcp 7 in/out export feature, but that seems to to be to large
how should i fix this annoying issue

    I'm talking about Compressor.
Compressor wants a destination to which to send an output file. Unless otherwise specifiedm the default destination is Source. That means it will be written to wherever (drive>folders path) the source file was stored.

  • Exporting chapter markers from FCP

I'm trying to export markers from my FCP (Final Cut Studio 2) timeline which I can then use as chapter points in DSP. I have exported the timeline with DSP markers but when I import the .mov into DSP no markers are apparent. Any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance. x

    Hello!
There is a few options here.
Personally I would suggest you send your timeline to compressor to encode to mpeg2 for DVDSP.
If you have placed those markers and made sure they are a <CHAPTER> in the comments section in your marker window, you can click add chapter marker in that window too, then the mpeg 2 will include those in DVDSP project when you import them.
(the marker window to make sure its a <Chapter> hit the M key when your play head is on the same frame as the marker.)
Bringing a quicktime into DVDSP has to encode the QT anyway... might as well do it right in compressor.
if thats not an option you can....
There is a way to import a "Marker List" but I dont remember how I did it. I just tried making a text edit document which I thought I did but that didnt work.
I will do some research and post back but I would suggest you encode your Project with chapter markers.
You can export using quicktime and include chapter makers too.. its a setting in your export options

  • Newbie Question about Markers from FCP

I'm trying to make markers, compression markers and having problems. I was able to make the first which was at a fade out and then in to the next sequence, but when I tried to create the second marker in the same way, it didn't work. Also, do I need to make chapter markers if I'm making one movie that will not have any menus. The dvd should just open and play the video right away and then continuously loop. So, I thought I should just make compression markers where there are edits and fades. I've been reading the manual, etc., and I'm confused. Sorry, but anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated.

The compression markers are really only there to signal to Compressor that a new GOP is needed at that point, because there is a sequence which requires special treatment during the encoding process. They don't carry over as markers into DVDSP's timeline.
You don't need to add markers to anything in FCP if you are not setting up chapters on the DVD. Even if you are, you can still add markers from within DVDSP if you then find that you need some (although they rarely get frame accurate placement once in DVDSP).
When you import the footage to DVDSP and add it to a track there will be a single marker at the start of the track - this is normal, and necessary! Don't try to delete it.

  • Exporting from FCP to STP not going so well

    Hello All,
I've been working between FCP and STP, sending the audio over to STP for a better mix.
Things have been going pretty well, although the feature of having the export back to FCP and automatically drop in the timeline doesn't seem to work. I do like the greater degeree of control via STP.
Anyway, I am attempting to send another multi-track file over to STP. I'm attempting to do this from the timeline, and not from the browser. To accomplish this, I select all, then choose send from the file menu, etc.
    The following is happening:
    1. The file send reads, "Exporting XML Data"
    2. Then it stops, and a new message reads, "Error sending selection to Soundrack Pro"
Any ideas what might be happening. Is it merely a preference trash in order?
    Thoughts.
    Thanks.
    DG

    Okay,
I need to know. Is it my questions, or is this group restricted to FCP internal issues only. I'm always amazed that 25 people have viewed this type of question, but the wealth of experience doesn't toss just one pearl of wisdom.
I think this is FCP related, but perhaps the exporting closes the door on interest.
Let me down gently, as I'm fragile

  • Send part of audio file, not the entire file, from FCP to STP

Is there an easy way to send only part of an audio file to STP as an audio file project from FCP 5.1.2?
Everything that I've tried so far always sends the entire audio file for processing in STP.
    1) using the blade tool to slice the audio
    2) creating a subclip of a piece of audio
    3) setting in/out points in both the timeline and the viewer
I realize that I could export the piece of audio and then import that into FCP and then send that to STP, but that is a lot of work.
    Is there an easier way?
    Thanks,

  • Exporting from FCP to STP!!!!

I had a video clip in FCP, I used the razor tool to cut the portion that I wanted to work with. When I send the file to STP, it takes the whole video clip whole video clip, instead of the portion I intended to work with. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? I have tried making sub clips and the same this happens.

It's normal. If you mark your FCP clip with an in and an out, those markers will show up in STP. That way, while you'll still get the entire clip, you can apply functions just to the marked clip.

  • Exporting Chapter Markers from FCP cuts movie. Help.

Exporting a 90 min movie with chapter markers to a quicktime file for DVDSP.
When I play it back, it starts half way through on a random chapter.
    Why is this happening?
I've tried exporting from the browser and the timeline.

  • Simple, basic issue - Sending a few clips at once from FCP to STP and back.

    Hi,
I'm working on a 20 minute video, already cut, hoping to do some simple sound reduction on a few clips.
One scene has two video clips from the same camera shot, wind noise on the audio.
Can I send two or more clips to STP at the same time?
When I try that, the whole 1 hour tape (I did a batch capture) appears in the STP timeline.
Is there a way to send the clips so only those clips go to STP, not the whole original clip in the browser?
Once I do the noise reduction, why can't I get it to automatically apply to the clips in FCP?
I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks!

Multi-track projects won't behave like audio file projects, with automatic updates in FCP. Once you have saved the project, export a mix, and you can send it back to your FCP timeline in the dialog box.

  • From FCP to STP

I imported a .mov clip of duration 3 hr into FCP, then took only 8 mins of it on to the timeline, when i select the 8 min clip from the timeline and send it to STP the whole of 3 hr clip audio loads in STP.
Is there any way to only send the 8 min audio only to STP?
It take a lot of time to load the wave form of 3 hr.
Tried IN/OUT Marker also, did not work.

Use the razorblade tool and cut both ends of the clip you want to use. Highlight only that 8 minute clip in the timeline, copy it to a new timeline and then send it to STP.

  • Sending multitrack Project from FCP to STP on another computer doesn't work

    Hello,
I attempted to search the forums but can't find my specific problem mentioned. I apologize if I overlooked it!
I am attempting to send a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project from Final Cut Pro 6.01 to Soundtrack Pro 2.01 on another computer. When I do, the video comes through fine but the audio fails to transfer over.
    Here's what I did:
First I open the Final Cut Project, highlight all the clips in the sequence to send and click "Send to Soundtrack Pro MultiTrack Project". I select all options including the "Fully Rendered Video" Option. This project opens up great in Sound Track Pro on the original computer. In Soundtrack Pro I "save as" and make sure I select "Collect Audio Files", "Collect unused audio files", & "Collect Video File". As far as I have read, this should be all I need to make sure all of the audio and video clips transfer together with the STP file.
However, when I place this folder (including the media files) on a external hard drive and transfer it on to our other computer (set up for audio recording and editing) and open it up in STP I get no audio. The clips visually transfer and all the clip lengths match up with the video, however there is no waveform showing. A straight line at 0db is all that shows up. I check the clips in the bin and they show the same file size as on the first computer. When I select an audio clip and take a look at the actions tab it shows the name of the clip and under it it says "insert silence" (which was not there on the original computer). When I de-select the insert silence the audio still does not play (the straight line on the waveform disappears). I try deleting the "insert silence" action and the same thing happens.
I have tried doing this operation mulitple ways with the same result. Am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can think of is the file starts out on OSX 10.4.11 and is transfered over to leopard 10.5. I just tried doing the reverse operation (creating the file from the audio computer and sending it to the video computer) and everything works fine. No idea what this means. I need this to work the other way around so I can begin the extremely intensive audio work on this film while our editor continues the video edits so thank you very much for any help that you can lend me. It is greatly appreciated.
    -Matt

Could be a difference in OS's causing the problem, but I can't say for sure. You could try using the OMF export option instead. I almost guarantee it will work.

  • Error Exporting Chapter Markers from FCP X

After upgrading to Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8, I am having problems exporting chapter markers.  Specially, at the end of the export, this error message appears and cancels the entire export:
Error Message: "The operation could not be completed because the chapter marker track could not be written (error -12769)."
As you can see, none of my markers are closer together than one to two minutes, and the error message appears whether I have a marker at the very beginning of the project, or occurring a few frames in.
The only report of this problem on Apple's support forums was caused by trying to read FCP X 10.0.5 markers in 10.0.6.  In this case, all my markers were created in 10.0.8.
This error persists even after trashing FCP X preferences and moving marker positions.
The file will export perfectly when chapter markers are not included in the export.
At this point, I don't have a good workaround.
    Thanks,
    Larry

Hi I have this same problem right now!
    Mac Mini
    OS 10.8.5
    FCP 10.0.9
No recent upgrades, nothing has changed.
It had been working fine since I bought the Mac Mini + software in 2013…)
I have already tried removing the markers, deleting all markers and making new ones, creating a new project and pasting the old sequence into it (without markers), creating new markers in the new project, etc...
I still cannot create a master file (unless I deselect 'use chapter markers'), or unless I select a range of the project which does not include markers!
    Please Help!

  • DVDSP not recognizing Chapter Markers from FCP?

We added Chapter Markers in FCP6. We exported one time with DVD Studio Pro Marker and tried the other time with Chapter Markers. We took it into Compressor and made the file into MPG-2 and imported into DVD Studio Pro, though it does not seem to recognize the chapter markers once in DVD Studio Pro.
Does anyone have any advice on what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Or, just try selecting your sequence in FCP's browser, then go to the file menu and export using Compressor. Choose your setting, your destination, and hit submit. Saves steps, and it will export your complete sequence including chapter markers.

  • Importing Chapter Markers from FCP

I create chapter markers in Final Cut Pro and bring the movie into iDVD for mastering. But when I playback the DVD, there are no chapter markers on screen. What should I be doing that I'm not doing?

Final Cut Express & Final Cut Pro: How to export a movie with chapter markers for iDVD
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42973
I recommend against using anything but "Chapter Markers" upon export as it has been known to cause issues with previous and current versions of iDVD. Since we don't know exactly why this affects some users and not all users, it is best to avoid the issue altogether and just use "Chapter Markers."
If you know that you will be sending your footage to DVD SP, then use DVD Studio Pro Markers upon export.

  • Sending files from FCP to STP

after migrating stuff from my old mac book to my new imac (w lion os) i am unable to send segments from final cut to sound track. selection is grayed out although selections for motion, shake, color, and soundtrack pro script are in black. don't have that problem with my old mac book. would it have something to do with the lion OS? if so, what to do and if not, what do you think would be the problem?
    bob rittner

I suggest you read up on Permissions Repair:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452
In a nut shell, sometimes, especially since you migrated, files ownership isn't changed on all files, etc... and this does not allow programs to function properly. So running a permissions repair will correct this.
For the preferences, at times these become corrupted. So you need to delete them to make new ones.... But if you use Preference Manager, you won't accidentally delete the wrong file AND you can back up your old preference file in case deleting doesn't help and you can get your old preferences and presets back.
