SCORM...anyone?

Hi all
So this is my 3rd or 4th post about integrating SCORM
compliant Flash with the hopes that someone knows how to get
started with doing this. Because I've found nothing so far.
So if anyone has info, please help out. Any help would be
appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Fair enough. :) I didn't read the whole thing, but my hunch
is that
SCORM compliancy hasn't changed much since 2002, and the only
updates
necessary may be for ActionScript/JavaScript communication.
> The Flash API files say that you need to work with a

Here, my hunch is that the Quiz Template might be useful,
but probably
isn't necessary. What's necessary is to adhere to the SCORM
requirements.
The Quiz Templates are one person's (perhaps a team's) take
on adhering to
those requirements with ActionScript. Someone else's approach
is likely to
be written in a different way.
> And I don't think I want to use a quiz template for my
quizzes.
I don't care for them, myself.
> And the ADL site has little to no info on Flash
integration, never
> mind that most of their links are broken on their site
anyway.
Heh, that doesn't surprise me. But wow, that's
disappointing. I've
done a fair share of government work, and it often astounds
me how poorly
organized/maintained public data are.
> And the files I have aren't commented, are impossible to
follow

> So everywhere I've looked has been a dead end.
Again, I haven't done SCORM compliance myself, but if it's
anything like
other govt. compliance scenarios, it's presumably a matter of
a) getting the
specs and b) adhering to them. Of those, choice A might just
be the more
difficult one, believe it or not. Have you given ADL a call?
That might be
the surest bet to getting some official documentation. As for
choice B,
once the requirements are set, in theory, an ActionScript
programmer with
experience in external JavaScript calls is all you need.

  • Can anyone verify which version of SCORM 2004 Captivate 4 supports?

Captivate 4 in supporting SCORM 2004 writes 1.3 out to the manifest.
Obviously it supports SCORM 2004 version 1, but can anyone verify whether it does support either version 2 or version 3 of 2004?
We're trying to make sure our LMS is up to the latest specs. Version 4 just came out in March 2009, so we don't expect any products to support that yet, but we at least want to be able to support the latest Version up to that being used.

Cp4 should be able to ouput SCORM 2004 content that plays in an LMS that supports any of the 4 editions.
This does NOT mean that Cp4 has all the new changes already built into it.
But it does mean that Cp4 still handles the basics that are core to each version without attempting the latest extras.
The latter editions of scorm 1.3 (aka scorm 2004), added to and clarified aspects of the spec (e.g. sequencing and navigation control between sco's, global variables that can be shared between sco's, etc.), but Cp does not do any of that anyway.
There is one big thing that I did come across though that I want to mention.
Early on, they changed the name from scorm 1.3 to scorm 2004.
As a result, you can have equivalent courses, whose only difference is that the manifest file refers to the spec by a different name.
Many LMS vendors have accounted for this and it should not make a difference.
However, I had a case where the version of the LMS being used was released when it was still called scorm 1.3.
My courses (which were scorm 2004, 2nd and 3rd edition) initially would fail the basic package validation when uploading because it was looking for "1.3" in the imsmanifest file.
Changed the line in the manifest to reflect the old name, and suddenly everything was fine again.
In my case, to verify I ran the package through each iteration of the ADL Conformance Test Suite for scorm 2004 (just adjusting name of the referenced schema) and it ran through without a hitch.
    Hope this has helped.

  • Can anyone tell me where to find a manifest maker for SCORM 1.2 for Flash projects?

Hi... I have a group of Win 7 based Flash CS6 projects and need to have a manifest maker s/w to create the SCORM 1.2 required manifest of all the files. I used to use a free downloadable manifest maker from the web but it seems to be gone.
I am using the Dreamweaver Manifest Maker extension which is perfect for Dreamweaver but I also need one for Flash based projects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jan

No one here knows what you have tried in the past.
The suggested solution was a possibility. One that some folks wouldn't think about. You have already ruled out a new cable as a solution 8 times.
My mixture of 9 pin FW cables are all snug to the fit - all appear to be different vendors.
My apologies for having made a 'foolish' suggestion.

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to have more than 1 SCO in a Manifest when using Presenter 7?

I have several presentations that I want to be able to distribute to a third party SCORM LMS server. I want to have one Manifest and then have each presentation / quizz as an individual SCO so that I will end up with 1 course rather than having a manifest for each presentation.  HELP!!!!!!! I have called Adobe Support and haven't been able to get any help at all. Well, I did get some help on working on my patience   I've even called Sales thinking I may be able to get some help there - no such luck. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know!!! I've already spent about 40 hours trying different things and am at my whits end (or nearly). I am desperate
    Shelby

    Shelby,
Unless you find a way to modify the manifest file such that it accounts for each presentation as a separate SCO, then I'm afraid that the answer is no.
Unfortunately as a default, Presenter "sees" each PPT deck as a single SCO even if you have multiple quizzes within a PowerPoint deck...and because the slides contained within one presentation equate to one published "course," the net effect is a single SCO per deck.
I'm hoping that others will weigh in here, but at this point, I really don't think you'll be able to consolidate multiple presentations and come up with a multi-SCO course....Presenter just doesn't provide it.

  • Error when launching SCORM Compliant Content

When launching a piece of SCORM Content, OLM is kicking out an error that says "Unable to Locate the LMS's API Implementation. Communication with the LMS will not occur"
We have verified the physical and virtual paths for the content server and the SCORM Adapter, but this error is still occuring. The Content plays after you accept the error message.
Has anyone experienced this type of error before? The content was developed using Camtasia (which I am not familiar with) but was published using SCORM 1.2
Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

    Julie,
Check the troubleshooting section of the SCORM installation guide, metalink note id#374715.1
chances are the content is not frame friendly (look for javascript error indicator in the bottom left of your IE browser)
Partch #5943165 can help if this is the case "Provide option to launch learning object in new window " and described here:

  • Error With SCORM Content W Latest Version of Sun Java (1.6.0_10)

We're getting an error with users running the more recent version of Sun Java 1.6.0_10, but not with previous versions. This happens for all our SCORM content.
The Java logs are showing a lot of data, but the main symptoms seem to be:
network: CrossDomainXML: connection to host <our LMS server address> denied
LMS Error: 304 - Security exception
    and
    Error stack trace:
    oracle.apps.ota.lms.LMSException: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission <our LMS server address> connect,resolve)
    and
    Returned: "false"

    *** LMSGetErrorString("304") [Thu Oct 09 10:56:35 EDT 2008]
    Returned: "Security exception"
Our crossdomain.xml fille is configured correctly, and also previous versions of JRE are not having the problem (the Java logs look clean).
    Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    Hi All
Got a similar issue with the tracking / bookmarking of sessions - when on sun Java update 7 all is well however when update 10 or 11 is installed then SCROM session start on page 1 not the page you were on, also as expected they do not get marked as complete.
    Two things happen
    1) A small window is left for - [http://riti04.cornwall.nhs.uk:7780/ilearn/en/learner/jsp/relogin.jsp] - URL
    2) We get an Error on page - [http://riti04.cornwall.nhs.uk:7780/ilearn/en/learner/jsp/lms.jsp] - URL
Looked for the Plugin section as per a pervious within the Java Control panel - but I'm not seeing it.
We use iLearn 5.0 and I am begining to think we need a patch but unsure which.
    Thanks

  • AS3 SCORM problem

    Hi there,
    Hope someone can assist!
I am publishing my Captivate 4 project with AS3 settings, as I have created a few animations in AS 3 that are inserted. Now I am publishing it and putting it on our scorm compliant LMS, it is not communicating with the LMS.
I have also published a file in AS2, which worked just fine in communicating with the LMS. Just took a course with one slide published it with AS2, then tried the same content exactly same settings only selecting AS3 and it didn't work.
One of the differences is that with AS3 settings it also wants to open a new empty window, which it doesn't do with the AS2 setting.
I have done some checking with the firebug in Firefox and it looks like it loads just fine, but when it starts playing it misses the communication with the LMS.
I was wondering if there are any solutions out there...
    Thanks a lot!
    Annemarie

No such thing as a stupid question....
Yes I did check those settings... and that seems to be causing the problem.
I just took an empty, new presentation (just for the process of elimination, no other values/factors involved) set the captivate settings to AS2 published tried it on the LMS, worked fine.
Then same empty slide, set the captivate settings to AS3, all other settings remained exactly the same, tried it on the LMS, it plays fine, but there is no communication to the LMS.
It loads all the swf files correctly, then with AS2 published file, it starts the "soaplms.php?op=initialize" and you can see in firebug (net) that the "scorm_support.swf?invokemethod etc" communicates with the LMS every few seconds, so it is reporting my progress and all that I do in the course.
With the AS3 settings, it never does the "soaplms.php?op=initialize", and actually at that moment it should display this message, it opens a new emtpy window. The course continues to play and all the buttons work, but it doesn't communicate to the LMS what my progress is or what I have done in the course.
There is a document that talks about the scorm compliance of Captivate and it mentioned that you might need to check that the API can be found, so I did that edited the html file, added the alert,  and the API can be found when launching the AS3 published file.
I have also tried it on the scorm tracker site from rustici, which is a great resource by the way: http://www.scorm.com/scorm-solved/testtrack/
You can upload your zip files and see the debug reports so you know exactly what happens in terms of communication to the LMS.
    ActusxReus wrote:
stupid question, but did you double check that you selected Actionscript 3 in your Captivate preferences?
ActusXreus, have you succesfully used AS3 settings in a course and published it and used it on an LMS where it did track the results? Or if there is anyone else out there that did use these settings successfully, I would really like to know and maybe see what type of settings you have used in the other areas...
    Thank you so much!
    Best regards from the Bahamas

  • 3rd Party SCORM Adapter

I'm wondering if anyone has implemented a 3rd party SCORM adapter with OLM? We have run into performance issues with the integrated SCORM Adapters ability to stream voice. Our courses are currently created with UPK - with voice - and are VERY large in size. Unfortunatley, UPK only supports WAV files at this time which is unfortunately a very large voice file with minimal to no compression.
We are experiencing tremendous slowdown deliverying this content with our existing OLM infrastructure. We had an OLM Architect completely review our implementation to assure accurate configuration and the result was that all was configured correctly - but the SCORM adapter doesn't efficiently stream the voice. Our experience has shown that each page takes approximately 175Kbp per page to bring down the voice (this compares to a 28Kbp voice call)....you can see the HUGE difference. '
Before I start researching other adapters for OLM - interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this same problem and potential resolutions.
NOTE: We are currently deployed with a single content server accessed over the WAN but are heavily considering local content servers...the issue becomes accurate replication and assuring every content server has the same "instance of the truth"....we would be deploying 18 content servers worldwide so I think you can see the concern here.
Of course and easy solution is no voice....but not the desired outcome.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Lisa

    Lisa,
The SCORM Adapter has nothing to do with it. The SCORM adapter is simply an HTML frameset surrounding the content. The issue sounds like the content server machine more than anything else.

  • Scorm 1.2 Error Handling in Captivate 4

We have been using Captivate 4 for SCORM courses in a Moodle LMS (1.9.8) implementation. All of our users run Windows XP SP3, IE 6, and have McAfee installed on their systems. We have been having 1/5 people who take the Captivate courses never connect to the API and thus no data is written except for a start.time which is seperate from the SCORM communication. I was wondering if there was anyway we could have a javascript error appear whenever a user does not connect to the LMS or API correctly. I know this is common in other implementations of SCORM, but I cannot figure out how to add it to Captivate since the calls are all made in ActionScript as far as I know.
I have been looking for common threads and have had no real luck.
As a side note, the users who aren't getting written to the database are users who previously took Captive 4 courses in the same LMS and had no issues even when using the same PC on the same day. If anyone knows why this could be happening or has any suggestions or how to discover the error please help, we have been dealing with this issue for far to long and it is quickly becoming a permanent headache...
    Thanks!
    Sean

All (? or most) SCORM calls for published CP projects are contained in an external file. In CP4 it's "scorm_support.js".
So you could likely, if you have any JS expertise or resources, look at that...see where it attempts to connect to the API and customize it to throw an alert if it fails?

  • Scorm-based test causes too many Blackboard http requests

We are looking into a problem with scorm-based tests and learning  modules created in Adobe Captivate. Viewing the scorm content in our Blackboard LMS generates ridiculous amounts of network traffic. A simple click in the scorm module triggers  anything between 10 and 100+ http-requests, even if no interaction with  the server is required. The same click sometimes results in 5 requests, other times in 50  requests or more. It's always a sequence of the same two requests, see below (only the max value in "Keep-Alive: timeout=10, max=98" counts down).
If these scorm modules are taken by a group of students, the enormous amount of http requests put a lot of pressure on our Blackboard system, which results in a slow behaviour of the modules. Has anyone seen this behaviour and does anyone know of a way to prevent it?

Simply add the call to your exception hander. E.g.
    EXCEPTION
             WHEN OTHERS
             THEN
                   UTL_TCP.Close_All_Connections;
                   INSERT INTO excep_trans (P_WORD_EXP, UPDATE_TIME, COUNTER)

    ..etc..
END;Also consider using proper coding standards. There is NO modern day programming language standard that says to write (selective) reserved words in uppercase. Write in lowercase. Use camelcase and pascalcase for variable names and procedures/functions/methods. Restrict the use of uppercase to defining identifiers such as compiler macros or constants.
Do yourself a favour and read, understand and apply the basic naming standards as detailed in .Net Guidelines for Names and Code Conventions for the Java Programming Language.

  • Has anyone actually got a Captivate 6 quiz (pref. HTML5) working in Moodle X.X ?

    Thats wbout it really.
The way that C6 punlishes to a gazillion folders rather makes the process difficult (and I do not want to create Moodle Quizzes and export via Scorm as there is n point in that - I want to create HTML5 quizzes within the topics pages of Moodle.
If anyone has - or is willin to try - theh I will be amazed franklt :-)
    John

My best guess here as to the reason for your issue is that you've removed some of the essential objects from the Quiz Slides and that is fouling things up.
Quiz Slides MUST ALWAYS have the default Question Title and Question Text captions present.  These are special caption objects that are ONLY found on quiz question slides.  If you remove them or replace them with normal captions your quiz slides will malfunction inconsistently.
The other thing you may have done here by the sound of it is to set Submit All and then move the Submit All button off the slide into the scrap area.  That's also likely to screw things up.  If you do NOT want the user to see the Submit All button until the final quiz question slide then just change them to Transparent buttons and move them ALMOST off stage, but leave at least a few pixels of the button object still sitting over the top of the stage area.  This will mean the user cannot see (and is very unlikely to click) the Submit All button except for the slide where you WANT them to see it.

  • Captivate 4 and SumTotal 7.2 - SCORM Template

    Hello!
I'm hoping someone has what I'm looking for.  Up until last week, we had been using Andrew C's SCORM template with Captivate 3 to publish courses to our SumTotal LMS (version 7.2). Everything worked beautifully!
Now, we've updated to Captivate 4 and are trying to use the same template with Andrew's override behavior, but when we do, it disables any right-click's that we use in the simulation. It also disables the use of variables.
I tried copying Andrew's override variables and functions to the new Captivate 4 template and I can get everything to work correctly except the right-click. Am I missing something? Or does anyone know if Andrew has released a revised SCORM publishing template compatiable with Captivate 4?
*The template we have override's SumTotal's rather annoying urge to prompt for completion before the end of the course.
I have attached the Captivate 3 template we were using, and the one I tried to create for Captivate 4. Any assistance in getting the Captivate 4 one to play nicely with right-click would be great!
    Thanks,
    Kristy

    Hi Kristie,
Sounds like you have what we have been looking for in order to use Captivate with our LMS. If I could also request the files you mentioned to Sam I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • I have a button that opens a PDF that crashes Moodle and Scorm Cloud. How can I fix this?

    I'm using adobe Captivate 5.5
I have a button that opens a PDF that crashes the course when in an LMS (I've tried moodle and scorm cloud). When I play the course in my browser, the file opens fine and the course continues. Does anyone know why opening this file doesn't work when I upload the SCORM package to an LMS?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi aperio_chris,
Thank you for contacting adobe support.
Please use the following steps and let us know if that helps:
    1. In the publish setting>>externalize resources>>check all the check box which are for attachment, widget, animation etc.
    2. Check the flash player version change it to version 9 or 10 when publishing the output through Adobe Captivate.
    Thanks and Regards

  • SCORM file in LMS showing score

I have a captivate 4 file that has quiz slides but they are designed to be knowledge checks and not scoreable.  However, when I publish the SCORM file to my LMS, after completing the presentation, the LMS is showing a score.  Does anyone know how to set the captivate program to NOT show a final score in an LMS?
    Thanks
    Tracy

    Hello,
Do you really want to have something reported to the LMS? If I'm not wanting anything to be reported, I will not choose publish to a SCORM-object but upload a package (zipped) and ask the LMS to unzip and start from the HTML-file. I'm not sure if this functionality is available for each LMS.
If you want a reporting, you could choose Slide views instead of score to report?

  • How do you restrict the scorm reporting to only set raw value if 100

I have an issue with the LMSSetValue cmi.core.score.raw output from a Captivate 4 course published to SCORM 1.2.
I need to customise it so that the course only sends an LMSSetValue command to the LMS if cmi.core.score.raw is '100', and not on every slide when the value is '0'
Can anyone help me with some code for the course html file?
    Thanks
    Dave

What the remote user can do is to implement this policy . Allow UDP protocol on port 5060 but the only source should be west.broadcore.com.
Unfortunately, Apple routers are quite simple, and do not have the features and settings that you would need to do this.
However, if you are using a modem/router or gateway device with the AirPort Express, then you might be able to set up the modem/router to do what you need. What is the make and model number of the device that you likely call your "modem"?
