SCORM problems

Am trying to get my head around SCORM, and am following the Youtube example to the letter, and yet still have teething problems.
1. When I open 'Content Package Conformace Test' or 'SCO RTE Conformance Utility Test', I receive the Environment Error: 'The "SCORM4ED_TS111_HOME" Environment Variable could not be detected. This Environment Variable must be set correctly for successful operation of this software.' Anyone seen this problem before?
2. In the SCO RTE Conformance Utility Test when I hit 'Launch SCO' nothing happens... (Perhaps related to problem 1?)
FYI my system specs:
SCORM 2004.
Windows 7 and XP. (tried on two machines)
Internet Explorer 8
Java 7.
Thanks in advance.

I'm experiencing a similar problem and here is what the help dest at ADL sent me.
While the software should install these automatically, sometimes computer permissions get in the way.  You will need to set up a System variable in your Environment Variables with the "Name" of SCORM4ED_TS111_HOME and the "Value" corresponding to the path of the installed program (should be C:\ADL\SCORM_2004_4th_Ed_TS_V1.1_ST).  How you get to Environment variables is different based on Operating System, but the best way is to right click on my computer, look at "Properties" or "System Properties" and find the "Advanced" tab.  There should be a button for Environment Variables there.  The top will have user variables, which you will ignore.  The bottom will have the system variables discussed above.  I hope this helps!

Now I couldn't find that file when I looked and I've written them back but you may have better luck.

  • AS3 SCORM problem

    Hi there,
    Hope someone can assist!
I am publishing my Captivate 4 project with AS3 settings, as I have created a few animations in AS 3 that are inserted. Now I am publishing it and putting it on our scorm compliant LMS, it is not communicating with the LMS.
I have also published a file in AS2, which worked just fine in communicating with the LMS. Just took a course with one slide published it with AS2, then tried the same content exactly same settings only selecting AS3 and it didn't work.
One of the differences is that with AS3 settings it also wants to open a new empty window, which it doesn't do with the AS2 setting.
I have done some checking with the firebug in Firefox and it looks like it loads just fine, but when it starts playing it misses the communication with the LMS.
I was wondering if there are any solutions out there...
    Thanks a lot!
    Annemarie

No such thing as a stupid question....
Yes I did check those settings... and that seems to be causing the problem.
I just took an empty, new presentation (just for the process of elimination, no other values/factors involved) set the captivate settings to AS2 published tried it on the LMS, worked fine.
Then same empty slide, set the captivate settings to AS3, all other settings remained exactly the same, tried it on the LMS, it plays fine, but there is no communication to the LMS.
It loads all the swf files correctly, then with AS2 published file, it starts the "soaplms.php?op=initialize" and you can see in firebug (net) that the "scorm_support.swf?invokemethod etc" communicates with the LMS every few seconds, so it is reporting my progress and all that I do in the course.
With the AS3 settings, it never does the "soaplms.php?op=initialize", and actually at that moment it should display this message, it opens a new emtpy window. The course continues to play and all the buttons work, but it doesn't communicate to the LMS what my progress is or what I have done in the course.
There is a document that talks about the scorm compliance of Captivate and it mentioned that you might need to check that the API can be found, so I did that edited the html file, added the alert,  and the API can be found when launching the AS3 published file.
I have also tried it on the scorm tracker site from rustici, which is a great resource by the way: http://www.scorm.com/scorm-solved/testtrack/
You can upload your zip files and see the debug reports so you know exactly what happens in terms of communication to the LMS.

stupid question, but did you double check that you selected Actionscript 3 in your Captivate preferences?
ActusXreus, have you succesfully used AS3 settings in a course and published it and used it on an LMS where it did track the results? Or if there is anyone else out there that did use these settings successfully, I would really like to know and maybe see what type of settings you have used in the other areas...
    Thank you so much!
    Best regards from the Bahamas

  • CP6 - True/False Question Type SCORM Problem

We discovered a problem with CP6 and the True/False question type.  The screen shot below is the log file of what is passed to the LMS.  The question was a True/False question type.  The correct answer was False.  I selected False and the assessment showed that I got the answer correct.  However, the data that is being passed to the LMS is incorrect.  CP6 is sending a 't' when you select False and an 'f' when you select True.
Yes, you can get around this by using a Multiple Choice question type and limit the answers to 2 with True and False as the options, but we should not have to do that.
    Any suggestions?

There is a long discussion on Jim Leichliter's blog (captivatedev) about this. The team considered this to be correct, Jim disagrees.

  • Module freezes in LMS

    Hi,
I've got a situation with version 8.  I converted 5 of my modules (created in captivate7) into the new version.  Now, when they are published in my LMS, they freeze on the last page of the quiz, and don't allow the module to mark itself as complete.  Each of these modules worked great in the LMS before I converted them to my new template in 8.  I am publishing with both SWF and HTML5 highlighted, and only "force re-publish on all slides" checked.  I haven't been able to find detailed documentation about what all of those options do, or what the best choices are.
Is there a different setting I should be using?   The LMS company has run it's own diagnostics, and says it's a SCORM problem.  But they don't seem to know what kind, just that the SCORM package is broken.
    thanks,
    Carl

Don't be too quick to believe the LMS company. They ALWAYS blame the authoring tool regardless of where the problem may be. They should SCORM experts if they build LMS products but cannot tell you where the issue is makes me very suspicious.
Upload your content to SCORM Cloud online LMS and test it there. If there is indeed anything wrong with the package then SCORM Cloud will tell you.

  • Problems trying to load SCORM version of Presenter module with Macs

    Hi there
I am thinking of using a Presenter module to provide orientation information to students. The module will have quizzes embedded in it. Because of this, I am planning to upload the Presenter file as a SCORM package to our Learning Management System.
I am a little concerned about doing this as I have experienced difficulties at the client end in the past. I uploaded a Presenter module in a similar way a year ago. PC users had no trouble accessing the module, but Mac users did. They couldn't access the module but, luckily, in both cases, had access to PCs that they could use instead.
When the Mac users tried to access the SCORM content through the LMS, they received a message that essentially said that the selected item contained no content. To my knowledge, both users had Flash installed on their Macs. This problem was not experienced by the PC users who were able to access the SCORM package without issue.
I'm not certain whether this is a problem unique to our LMS, but I vaguely recall a colleague finding a problem to this solution (perhaps a patch?) that was Presenter, rather than LMS driven. Unfortunately, he's on extended leave so can't help out at the moment. Would appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks

  • Interaction report in Fronter fails... SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 problems...

I am using Captivate 2.0 and trying to make a SCORM content
that will report user interaction in the new Fronter 7.1
(www.fronter.com). I use the reload SCORM 1.2 player for complaince
check, since I do not have one for SCORM 2004 (
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/scormplayer.html)
I have created a test cp file with just one question and 7
slides. I pack the output in .zip with SCORM 1.2.
When loading into the reload player I get the error message
    Problem validating manifest
    (file:C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Martin/reload/reload-scorm-player/server/webapps/reloa d-scorm-player/course-packages/22/imsmanifest.xml:
    12, 92): cvc-complex-type.3.2.2: Attribute 'xsi:schemalocation' is
not allowed to appear in element 'lom'.
I can see the .xml manifest from Captivate and line 12. The
manifest is posted at the bottom of this page.
Now when I use the LMS system fronter 71, which has SCORM
2004 and SCORM 1.2 support, the whole package loads and reports
pass/fail but not the user interactions. Fronter 71 has support for
this, and I would like to know what I have done wrong. I tried both
    SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004.
Here comes the manifest for scorm 1.2 and then afterwards for

  • Problems with Captivate (cp4) SCORM 1.2 content in Blackboard 9.1 when using  Internet Explorer 8

I'm having problems playing my captivate content in Blackboard 9.1 using IE8. The same content works using Chrome, Firefox, but does not load using IE8 when played through the SCORM player. The same content works (although without the tracking obviously) when played as a file within the Blackboard environment, so I can only imagine it's some kind of interaction between the Blackboard 9.1 scorm 1.2 player and the captivate content. All I have within the scorm player is a white area which when right clicked shows that the movie has not been loaded.
I've tried: adding the Blackboard 9.1 domain to the IE trusted sites list, and turning security on Trusted sites as low as possible. I've also been careful to always select No when asked if I'd like to only load the secure content (I'm not really sure why I get this message - everything is hosted on a (https) secure site).
If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.
    Thanks,

  • Problem with SCORM 1.2 option

I am using Captivate 8, I bought a licence. When I save my file, to be exported to my LMS, using the SCORM 1.2 options, the file, named imsmanifest.xml, contains an error in the code. So the LMS is not able o read it correctly. I requested the solution to my LMS, that is LITMOS, nd they said to me that the problem is on Captivate and that they have other clients with the same problem. Please can you help me to solve this issue?
    Best Regards. Gaetano

Manifest files are pretty straightforward, in general (except when you get into deep sequencing rules).  Any clue as to what it is saying the error involves?
    Could be something simple.
I had an issue with sumtotal a few years back, with scorm 2004 manifests.
There is an item in the manifest where you declare which scorm spec is being followed, and for that particular version of sumtotal, it expected the manifest to say "scorm 1.3" instead of "scorm 2004".
Mind you, they both refer to the same set of standards but that simple change (which I made using notepad) solved my dilemma.
But I agree with Rod, and scorm cloud is my benchmark for testing always.
Hope that helps and if you want a second set of eyes on the manifest file, I'd be happy to take a look.

  • Problems with Scorm and Captivate

There appears to be a major problem with Scorm compliance and Captivate 4.
From my understanding, Scorm 1.2 requires that the Manifest include the filenames of all resource files in order to import them. It appears that when Captivate externalizes its resources (Skins, etc) it does not include them in the Manifest. This is because Captivate does not dynamically create the manifest, but rather uses template manifest to fill in variables. The file that is missing from the template is untitled_skin.swf. Below is the template and the output from my test. From the template, it does not appear that Captivate will support anything other than a single SWF and be compliant with Scorm 1.2 (1.2 Scorm Specs http://www.imsglobal.org/content/packaging/cpv1p1p2/imscp_bestv1p1p2.html)
    Template:

    <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.js" />
    <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.swf" />
    Please advise..
    Thank You!

    Michael,
SCORM packages do have a number of "must-haves", but the listing of every last resource asset is more a best practice (although a good idea).
The content doc that you reference actually states that it is a best-practice document at the top.
My stand has always been that in the long run you are much better off if you follow all the rules (especially as the standards evolve and build on each other) so I would love to see captivate list all the resources in the future.
Importantly though, for any SCORM certified LMS there are two instances where resources MUST be listed.
First, if it is the href launch file for that particular resource (i.e. <resource identifier="SCO_ID1_RES" type="webcontent" href="untitled.htm"adlcp:scormtype="sco"> in your example) then obviously it must be listed in order for LMS to serve up the next part of the course.
The other time it must be listed is if that particular resource is actually a "dependency sub-element" of whatever sco or other resource it applies to.
As long as you have those bases covered, and all the other rules of course (schemas definitions, etc...) it should still pass the appropriate ADL conformance test suite.
I use both captivate 3 and 4 with a whole host of different LMS systems and have found the generated files to be quite sufficient for basic packaging needs.
Although, I have made a few customizations based on comments I have read from Andrew Cherney and Mike Rustici (I try to read everything either one of them answers for someone on the forum).
If you are saying that a particular LMS is doing some kind of "import validation" before it accepts and allows you to publish your content, then that is actually quite common (though usually transparent unless you hit a snag in the validation).
Typically, the validation will consist of a shortened version of the same basic items that the ADL test suite checks for (schemas and declarations, launch files, etc..).
That said, if because of an LMS that you need to account for, you absolutely NEED to have all the files listed in the manifest, a great tool for ensuring that is actually free.
It is called RELOAD, and if you ever take one of the courses run by the ADL Academic Co-Lab (which I highly recommend) that is the tool they use for teaching about packaging and sequencing.
Very useful tool for creating new packages or editing existing packages as well as adding metadata, sequencing rules and so on.
RELOAD lets you drag and drop whole directories of resources and set their dependency requirements so you could use it to quickly add all your resources to the manifest.
    This is their website:
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/
I can generally get by with just the files that captivate generates for scorm 1.2 , but for any heavy lifting (i.e. dynamic sequencing in scorm 2004), I always bring RELOAD into the picture.
I hope this was helpful.  I tend to ramble on about standards sometimes...

  • OLM Scorm Content Viewing Problem

    Hello,
We are on R12.0.6 and have a SCORM content (swf) loaded with CMI tracking type.
In the system some of the users can view the content without any errors but some get LMS connection error from the content itself (the content provider's error handling screen we can say) . Thus the problem is not for all the users I've focudes on local settings but still could not figure out the cause.
Are there any browser or local setting rules such as "Scripting should be enabled","Adobe Flash should be version 8 or higher" etc that may cause this?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Guclu

Have you ensure that the users encountering errors have Java installed and enabled in their browser?
You can have those users go to http://www.javatester.org/version.html to check what version they have installed if any and if it is enabled.
That most likely is the cause.

  • Problems with SCORM 2004 communication

I'm developing a SCORM 2004 Compliant LMS. And with contents
developed using Captivate, if you close the content window
intermediately after finishing the quiz, the lasts interactions are
    being lost.
Debugging the JS execution, I can see that the commit
function is called some time later after the user answers the
question, and if you go quickly from one question to the next, the
commit execution, and the SetValue to add the interactions, starts
to be delayed more and more... then when you get to the end, if you
close the window, the pending changes are not executed.
I tried to delay the window close, until the finish function
get executed... this works, but with some contents (for example the
"Random Quiz" that is included with Captivate 3) the user have to
    wait 5 minutes!!
I take some measures, and is taking 18 seconds from when the
user clicks the submit button, to the commit function get called,
    what is happening?
The SCORM API implementation is very simple, and is not
    throwing errors.
Any help and ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you. Best I can
    suggest is
take this up loudly with Adobe Support. We have two customers
    with the
exact same problem in our LMS. Like you, the only solution we
    can
suggest is to ask the user's to wait...which in this case,
    since the
lesson has several questions, means about 10 minutes!
We did get Adobe support to look at the lesson and they
    reported no
problems. I don't understand how that could be. So perhaps
    with your
voice added, they can figure something out.
    good luck!

  • SCORM & audio sync problems

    My reporting settings:
    SCORM
Report slide views only, slide view completion 100%
    Report Complete/Incomplete
Report Score to LMS as Percent
Reporting Level: Only report the score
It appears that SCORM is remembering where I left off, and I
start on that slide when I return. However, if I exit on slides 2
or 3, when I return the slide is correct but I get the audio for
slide 1. When the slide changes, the audio syncs back up. If I exit
on later slides, I return to the correct slide with the correct
    audio.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Try creating a new project and importing all the slides from
    your old
project. Sometimes Captivate slides just get wonky and often
    importing
them into a new file slaps them back into shape.
    Sometimes...

  • Problem of Creating SCORM 1.2 from Flash

    Dear All,
When I created e-Learning content through the flash and
published it from SCORM 1.2 standard to upload in new IBM LMS 1.04
version, it is not working properly.
How to generate the XML files needed for communicating with
LMS. If any option in flash to generate such kind of XML or should
I use thirdparty software for generating the XML? if someone have
experience in e-Learning content developing kindly help about it.
    Regards
    Aluvan

    You can use the
Reload Editor to create the XML
files for both scorm 1.2 and 2004, but I think it is more likely
that your communication problem is in the javascript wrapper.
Captivate uses the same SCORM setup, so searching for
Captivate SCORM issues may help you find the particular one that is
    causing problems with your LMS.

  • Problem capturing user imput using SCORM

Hello, I'm working on a little content management
application, using SCORM to capture the user interaction.
But, with content generated using Captivate, for Matching
questions, I'm getting something like:0[.]A[,]2[.]C[,]1[.]B and for
Multiple selection D[,]B[,]A. I'm talking about the Correct
Response Field, and User Response Field.
This strings are correctly formatted, but I don't have the
original text strings from the content, it is very difficult, to
present the result in a clear way without this information.
Somebody knows if there is a way to get this information from
captivate contents using SCORM? I want to get something like "The
text of the first option[,]The text of the third option[,]The text
    of the last option"
Or, there is a way to get this information from a content
    package?
    Thanks
    Javier

Hi Bradley, thanks for the response.
This is the user response field captured directly from a
content generated with other SCORM compliant content composing
    tool: "This_is_a_correct_answer[,]This_is_another_correct_answer".
SCORM support this kind of interaction.
I know that maybe for a larger software (than the one we are
developing) could be best work like you said, storing the Ids, and
then matching the tables to build the report. But I'm trying to
avoid retyping, like you said, this lookup table must be manually
maintained, then the content developer must develop his content and
then load all the Ids in my system retyping all the texts... if
there is no other solution... ok... but if we can get the text, or
build the lookup table automatically (some way), it will be great.
    Javier
