SCPM 2.0 and HANA

Hello,
I'm looking for some updates on the timelines for SCPM 2.0 HANA integration and the next release of SCPM.
I understand SCPM 2.0 is to be validated with BW 7.3 on HANA, is this up and running now?
Also I understand the next release (Next year) may potentially use HANA as a database and as a platform bypassing the need for BW with an HTML 5 based UI.
Are these still in the pipeline or have plans changed?
Many thanks,
Bridie

Hi Birdie,
SCPM on BW 7.3 on HANA will be validated by Q1 2012
Future direction is to build LEAN version of SCPM on Native HANA with HTML5, initially targeted for On Demand Segment scheduled for market release in late 2012

  • Difference between BW on HANA, Native HANA and HANA Enterprise..?

    Hi Experts,
I am learning SAP HANA modeling.
I am not able understand why there are three terminologies i.e., BW on HANA, NAtive HANA and HANA enterprise..
Could you please tell me the "Difference between BW on HANA, Native HANA and HANA Enterprise..?"""
I searched in sdn but not getting required info.
Please share the links if you have.
    Thanks
    Asha

    Asha,
BW is a SAP Business Application, which can run on many traditional relational databases and on the SAP HANA database, BW on HANA is the BW application running on the HANA database, for details please see http://scn.sap.com/community/bw-hana/faq
Native HANA means in general that the code has been developed on HANA and specifically for HANA. For example BW has coding which can run on all databases which are certified for BW, and new code developed specifically for HANA = HANA native.  Or another example, HANA studio is a native HANA application.
HANA enterprise is a license version of HANA. You can buy runtime licenses to run BW on HANA for example, and you can buy the enterprise license, which is a very comprehensive license to use many HANA capabilities. Please see your SAP account executive or SAP partner for details.
    thank you

  • How will SAP BW and HANA merge/melt over time?

Though SAP swears HANA would not replace BW but there are good reasons to believe the in-memory analytics platform(HANA) will eventually absorb BW. So, I think it is more accurate to say that SAP BW and HANA are begin to merge.
Any expert in this, can throw some light and educate us if it's so and how?
    Thank you.

There are plenty discussion on this topic, but I'll recognize the information might be pretty scattered over very specific ones. Here is my POV in a few bullets:
BW disappearing as a separate box doesn't necessarily mean BW disappearing as a modeling paradigm. In S4, where most operational reporting and analytics are performed on the fly on top of the transactional data, several scenarios are implemented as BW artifacts on top of Virtual Info Providers.
In the long run, you'll have the option to have fully managed modeling (BW LSA++ modeling paradigm) and the fully open SQL based modeling paradigm (based on HANA catalog artifacts & Information views). Both are interchangeable and you could have one single reporting model going through different objects of both modeling paradigms.
There will still be cases where you might need a consolidated centralized DW (e.g. consolidating data from several different sources). In such cases, you won't need to physically replicate data from any HANA source, you will simply virtualize the data from the other HANA Boxes (SDA).
With HANA SPS09 and even more with SPS10+, there will be native DW features in HANA that will help more and more the construction of the native HANA DW scenario. BW will also leverage those features. Look for HANA Data Warehousing Foundation, which include several services such as DDO and DLM.

  • Differences between Classic BW and HANA on BW?

    Dear Friends,
can we discuss here what are main difference between classic BW and HANA on BW?
Please share your thoughts who was involved in RAMPup.
already know some differences IMDB DSO, Cube, still some gaps are not clarify till i install BW on HAN
    thanks
    rao

First of all , HANA Enterprise Extend edition DOES NOT Meets all  BW features.
There are no best scenario, it is dependent on scenarios.HANA SPS3 scenarios would be great fit  for Agile Data mart however BW on HANA would be great fit for EDW scenarios.
For users who already have BW with BWA, BW on HANA bring performance improvement on the other side of equation (ETL side)  along with query improvement.
At high level, following are some of techinal issues with using HANA SPS 3 as "One fit for all" :
    1. Currently, there is no reporting tool available which can recogonize variable functionality of HANA. One may use universe variable functionality however the functionality will not provide all exhaustive options.
    2. Currently Hierarchies cannot be recogonized by any of reporting tools.
    3. Currently Data Level security options in HANA is limited.
Another dimension to consider is if you have planning application,Integrated Planning is currently supported and BPC will be supported soon (the scenario is only possible BW on HANA).
    Hope this is helpful.
    PS:
Regarding HANA 1.0 SPS3, for your below scenario:
    SAP & non SAP  -  BODS 4.0 -- HANA 1.0 SPS3 -- BI 4.0( Any front end ODBC support )
you will need BODS 4.1 version.

  • BW on HANA, where BW is on premise and HANA in cloud

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to install BW on HANA, where the BW component is installed on-premise and the HANA component is in the cloud (i.e. AWS hosted). I do know that "BW on HANA in the Cloud" exists, but this is not what my partner would like to do!
    Thanks!
    Jeffrey D'Silva

    Hi Jeffrey,
No, I would not recommend that. If you put the BW components on premise (primary application server, additional app servers) and HANA database in cloud you will need a very high network bandwith to connect (min 2 Gbit/sec or higher), and you need to deal with the network latency as well.
Please steer your customer away from this idea!
They should explore the SPA HEC for the BW on HANA cloud deployment: Cloud Options | SAP HANA

  • ECC and HANA

    Hi,
I have seen a no. of documents about HANA and BW. HOwever there is not anything available about relation between ECC and HANA.
Will HANA replacing ECC? If notis it interface between ECC and BW as I undertsand (may be wrong) that BW is still going to be there?
    Can anyone please explain?
    Regards
    No.One

HANA 1.0 was release with the view of performgin real-time replication from various SAP and non-SAP sources.
HANA 1.0 SP03 is now available - we see the BW application running on the HANA database. (ECC connected to BW as it is, but the underlying database is HANA)
Going forward, we will see HANA 2.0, where in ECC and BW may share a common HANA database.
As far as HANA being a replacement of ECC is concerned, i think the idea is too far-fetched.
There have been discussino on HANA replacing BW in the long run, but this we do not know.
As of now, there is no replacing BW or ECC.
HANA is being used for real-time replication and as a database for BW.

  • Difference between BI content and HANA optimized BI content ?

    Hi to all,
Is BW is already have HANA database, what is difference between BI content and HANA optimized BI content.
Can any one explain in general term, I have already gone with SAP HELP but, cant grab more of it.
Does we have HANA optimized BI Content only for DS and FI only.
    Regards
    Pavneet Rana

    Hi Pavanet,
you can find more info on the SAP HANA-optimized BI Content and the supported areas following this link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw74/helpdata/en/28/a1065182d3c557e10000000a44176d/frameset.htm
The SAP HANA-optimized content does contain physical InfoProviders and adheres to the LSA++ architecture paradigm as to reduce persistencies where possible and if it makes sense. One purpose is to provide a guidance of data modelling in the SAP BW on HANA case making use of recent SAP BW features.
For the near future a switch to the recent BW Infoproviders (advanced) DSO and CompositeProvider is planned.
    best regards,
    Simon

  • Best practices for PAL and HANA Modeling

    Hi all
I wanted to get your opinion on working with Predictive Analysis Library and SAP HANA modeling- analytical views, calculated views, etc.
If I have transactional data modelled into analytical view and now wish to run a predictive function on some of it's columns, what are you guys' suggestions on how to best go about building a PAL model within HANA?
Do I run the PAL procedure every time the table is updated? How do I decide on the frequency of the pal procedure? Any tips?
And do I use triggers for automated procedure runs?
What are some of the best practices?
If this has been brought up before, please point me to the right discussion.
    Thanks!

  • AMDPs and HANA Security

I just recently created my first AMDP.  The AMDP consisted of an ABAP Class and Method that I ran in an ABAP program to call a HANA stored procedure containing R script. I received security errors whenever any of the associated HANA objects did not reside in the _SYS_BIC schema.
Could someone please explain why this is the case?  I have MODELING, PUBLIC, and AFLPM Granted Roles. On System Privileges I only have the 'CREATE R SCRIPT' privilege. In Object Privileges I have the access to the various Schemas including _SYS_BIC and SYSTEM. Thanks for your help!!

Hi Anand, the AMDP is executed using the standard ABAP database connection (therefore as database user SAP<SID>). This user typically does not have the authorizations and user roles you mentioned above leading to the described error messages. You cannot switch the database user to your user, so you would have to request the enhancement of database use auth. / roles for the SAP<SID> in your system.
    Cheers,

  • System backup of HANA server and HANA DB.

    Hi .
I'm creating some of documents for maintenance operation - hana server .
I want to confirm about backup of "HANA Server" . Also HANA server is SUSE linux , so normally I get backup of linux server by dump/restore command , use dd command when server offline  and on rescue mode kernel , or use something disk(partition) image backup tool .
I think it can use for SUSE linux server - HANA Server too.
In this time , if I get backup image of all disk  that  contains all HANA related files including persistent storage (of course hana is offline when get backup) , then I restore this image , can I use this HANA DB ?
I see some of documents of HANA backup , but I never find about this type system backup . It is not supported operation?
    Regards,
    JT

    HI Jim,
standard Linux system backup/recovery methods apply also for the SAP HANA servers.
However, backing up the SAP HANA database is only supported by the backup commands.

  • The HR/PD framework and HANA

    Hi,
a very general question about HANA.
As a university we are working a lot in the HR/PD framework. Has anyone already experience with this combined with HANA?
Evaluation paths e.g. are used often in HR/PD ...
    Any information is welcome.
I asked this question in the HANA forum http://scn.sap.com/thread/3551208 but was redirected here.

  • DAQ and Hanning windows

I've tried to use the example Continous Acquisition & Graph (buffered) with the Hanning block of Hanning Windowing Functions.vi. The mismatch type doesn't let me to connect, any idea or hints.
    Thanks.

The Hanning Window function expects a 1D array as an input. The output of the AI read in the Continuous Acquisition and Graph is 2D since it is capable of returning multiple channels. You will need to use the Index Array primitive to pull off a single column of data for your channel of interest.

  • Mysterious new Nokia touchscreen interface and han...

Nokia Capital Markets Day in Brooklyn:
The company has quietly displayed a previously unseen handset, complete with an edge-to-edge touchscreen and subtle, attractive stylings. Perhaps even more interesting is that the screen is sporting an all-new heretofore unseen S60 touchscreen interface, giving hope to folks let down by S60 5th Edition's minor changes to the formula.
The handset is a mockup but it was indeed created by Nokia. While it does not necessarily depict an actual handset currently in the company’s pipeline, it does give us a glimpse of one of the directions Nokia is headed. Most substantially no doubt, is the fact that the mockup shows a UI that remarkably does not look like something out of War Games as does S60.
Could this be the first official hint that Nokia is looking to finally build a UI as visually pleasing as its OS is capable? Only time will tell.

  • HANA versions and revisions

    HANA admins,
if i look at the version and it says '1.0.23', does it mean it's on revision 23?

  • HANA Studio connection with HANA server in HANA One (Rev 56 and up)

    Dear HANA One Customers,
You must be aware of our latest HANA One release with HANA SP6 (blog: The specified item was not found. Once you launch a new instance using HANA One Rev 52.1, you can upgrade your instance to HANA Rev 56 or HANA Rev 62. You can do it in steps (Rev 52 -> Rev 56 -> Rev 62) or do directly (Rev 52 -> Rev 62). By the way, Rev 62 is the first HANA 1.0 SP6 release in HANA One. As we recommended, if you upgrade HANA Version to 56 or 62, please upgrade your HANA Studio and HANA Client to the corresponding version.
If you upgrade to either Rev 56 or Rev 62, you don't need to add any entry to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts to connect HANA Studio to use all the functionality of HANA Studio with HANA in cloud. While HANA One's add-on manager, upgrades. it makes a change in one configuration file (global.ini) for public_hostname_resolution.
However, if you change IP of your HANA One instance, you need to update this parameter which is described in the Quick Start Guide. The steps are summarized as:
In the Administration editor of HANA Studio,
Choose the Configuration tab. A list of all configuration files appears.
    Expand the global.ini configuration file
    Select the section public_hostname_resolution
Choose Next and enter the values map_hanaserver in the Key field and your IP or public DNS in the Value field.
For example, set the values as Key: map_hanaserver, Value: xx.xx.xx.xx if you use an IP address including an Elastic IP. If you use DNS as the value it could be ec2-xx-xx-xx-xx.compute-1.amazonaws.com
With this new feature, the same HANA Studio can connect to many HANA One instances at the same time which was not possible earlier prior to Rev 56.
    Thanks,
    Swapan

    Yes Aleksandr
    I think you are right.
After doing many installation of HANA Server in differrent AWS instances it didn't work for me.
But when I installed the HANA Studio on another machine with more RAM it worked.
I think we have to install HANA Studio on another AWS instance with 16 GB RAM to make it run smoothly.
    Thanks & Regards
