Scrambled contacts

The address book on my Mac is fine - 80 contacts. However, I end up with 400 contacts on my iPhone regardless how many clean syncs I do (remove all, then sync again).
The problem is it creates several garbage contacts out of every contact. First the normal contact, then another one with an empty name and email, just address. Then another contact with an empty name and address, just email, and so on.
The thing is I created the Address Book on my Mac from a csv text file. The Address Book imported it without any problems. The format of the csv is one column for each entry in the address book, with column headers (Last, First, Phone, etc). There are no empty rows and no tabs, it is very clean.
My questions are
1. Any way to figure out what in the address book screws the contacts? Again the Address Book does not look corrupted in any way.
2. Although the Address Book understands my csv file, maybe that is not the right formatting for import from a text file. Any suggestions?

Hopefully it contains something useful! There also are multiple existing threads on this site that discuss that exact error...your review of those might prove useful, and a search of this site, using the error message, error code, or symptom, should reveal all applicable existing threads to you.
If you remain on an older OS, you may want to try updating to the newer versions that hopefully have this issue corrected.

Address book is scrambling contact info

Address book on one of my 3 synched computers is changing info in contacts where it is randomly putting incorrect company info under the names, or a name on a company where that person doesn't work. So essentially I have new, duplicate cards with personal and company information scrambled. How did this mess happen?

The exact same thing is happening to me. I had to spend about an hour yesterday correcting the mess across 4 Macs - wasted time. It is really a shame that Apple has not been able to sort out something this basic.
I have read several posts in the past that the sync function is not stable - my experience of yesterday would support that view

How to make mac address gmail contacts overwrite the ones on my HTC Android phone - I don't want to sync - that makes the phone scramble and overwrite my computer. I want to remove or correctly overwrite the phone information as I have done with iPad.

Please help - I am beginning to hate google, my android and gmail. I have just wasted about 5 hours in a futile attempt to try and get my current Mac contacts list on my computer updated to my phone. I'm not that computer literate but I have looked up about google phone accounts, vCards, backing up contact lists, what SD on phones are, and God know what else. I have searched the internet and tried all sorts of things and I still have a mac with a now correct contact list (after the iPad contacts scrambled it and I spent ages manually correcting them all) and a phone with an outdated contact list. If you try and sync them the phone wants to overwrite the computer one just like the iPad did (would it be so **** hard to give you a choice on the phone as to which overwrites which!). After all the advice on the internet failed, I got the bright idea to completely delete all the ones on the phone and if it was empty of contacts the computer one could be exported to it. Not as simple as it sounds. First I backed up (I think) my computer contacts list. Numerous futile attempts to go through the phone options to globally delete all contacts did not work - they gave a warning message and you got to choose whether to continue or not, I did, and it looked like it might be working as it changed to zero data on the phone, but then they all popped back up again from God knows where from, but without their little added bits like pictures of the people. So, I tried un- syncing the darn phone from google and then deleting them globally. That didn't work either. I tried deleting them all again and again and google would crash and not let me do it. It is absolutely ridiculous that this is so damned difficult to do (especially if you are not computer savvy) and that you cannot choose which device overwrites which when syncing. I gave up and ticked sync with Google again (not that it appears to do anything to the phone contact list at all). So after 5 hours I am back to where I started from, with a phone showing all the same incorrect contacts (but the pictures are back), which wants to overwrite the computer if I try any sort of sync, and no way to fix them except go into each one manually and try and do it - and how long would that take (and I've already wasted hours and hours fixing scrambled contact lists!). I think I will do a print out of the computer contact list and just carry it around with me like an address book - so much bloody simpler. So now I have a headache, am fighting an overwhelming urge to hurl the phone at the wall, hoping for a heat wave to evaporate icloud things and am wishing I had bought an iPhone instead of the stupid HTC Android. Can any one offer me any suggestions on how to get rid of the contacts on my phone and replace them with the ones in my mac address list - hopefully after that they can sync to their hearts content and not stuff everything up again (which was why I unsynced google a while back - because the phone's list kept making stuff ups and scrambling and duplicating my computer contacts list). Am I the only one on the planet having this problem or is there someone else out there who has had it and solved it.

Without "pretending" to be yourself on the other phone (change settings) there's nothing else you can do.
iOS devices are meant to be single user and can't view iCloud.com the same way a Mac or PC can do.
You need to find a desktop or laptop machine (Mac or PC) to log in at iCloud.

Goodbye BB Z10

After the kinks I have had the past 2 weeks, I have finally parted with my BB Z10. I have been a long time user of BBs but just could not stand the hassle the new BB Z10 has given me....scrambled contacts, emails, battery, etc..

if you don't want your yahoo contacts, go to settings - mail - yahoo - then turn off the contacts

Printing contact sheet scramble order of titles.

Recently, when I arrange a group of photos by title, i.e; Photo A, Photo B etc..and then go to print a contact sheet from the i-photo print menu, the titles become scrambled. i.e, Photo D, Photo M etc..
Any body know whats wrong, or how to remedy?
I'm using i-phot 11 on my macbook pro with Lion recently installed.

Backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more. And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should. On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much. I will post a note in the app store to let them know. I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

SCRAMBLE with Friends Crashes?

Does ANYONE have a problem with SCRAMBLE with friends crashing on your iPod or iPhone? I've tried contacting Zynga to no avail, and then it hit me . . . could it be that the iOS on the iPod 4G not be strong enough?

Mine crashes too. It does not even recognize it on my iPad as a purchased iPad game. It says iPhone game. I don't have a iPhone and I have been playing the game for weeks. Now I cannot play it and I have games to finish. Have you found a solution to this?

Manual photo placement contact sheet

Using iPhoto, I am trying to print a contact sheet with the photos in a specific order.
I have them in an album and I arranged them as I want them printed. Upon printing to PDF, the images scramble.
I have tried, but without success, the following:
Tried setting the sort to "manual"
Tried "batch changing" the dates and re-dated them sequentially by one minute and then clicked "sort by date".
Tried changing the file name and clicked "sort by file name".
Have spent hours trying to fix this. At my wits end!
My goal is to print 5 contact sheets with comparable photos in identical locations. Specifically, each contact sheet depicts a house on the market. There are 5 houses = 5 contact sheets. The upper left corner picture on every contact sheet is the house's front exterior. The upper right picture is that house's kitchen and so on....so that we can lay out all the printed contact sheets and compare quickly.
Any ideas?

Defective Replacement iPod - Scrambled screen, random restarts

Hi there,
I recently paid for Battery Replacement Service for my 3rd Generation iPod. I packed up and FedEx'd my iPod to Apple and all that good stuff.
Apple sent me back a (supposedly) refurbished iPod that's really really messed up:
- the screen gets all scrambled while listening to songs to the point where the screen is a sea of noise / pixel mung
- the unit randomly powers down while listening to it
- in order to power-up the unit to start listening to music, I have to reset it (hold down play and menu) otherwise I am just greeted with a blank screen (with the backlight on)
I've tried the 5 R's in their entirety, including returning the unit to its factory settings. No dice.
Has anyone ever heard of something like this?
The replacement unit is supposed to be covered by a 90 day warranty, but Apple wants a proof of purchase in order to initiate a Service Request, and since the iPod is a replacement unit I have no receipt or anything like that. I'm having trouble getting any response from Apple about getting the unit replaced or any response at all for that matter.
A simple battery replacement has turned into a huge hassle.

Spam free contact forms

I am not sure where to start on this. I am newish to
dreamweaver and have created a very basic site for my hobby which
does not make much money. I had on there a contact me button which
I later added a found of the net scramble code to try and block
spam.
This does not have seemed to worked.
I have found myself some free code for a contact me form with
captcha thing at the bottom. This is all and good, but within the
code is my email address for the bots to still find.
I have seen sites who host similar forms and have a database
where my email address would hide. However as my website is just a
display for my hobby, the cost of paying someone else to maintain
this is rather pointless.
My web hoster allows me access to a free SQL database and I
am led to believe that I can host this script and database on my
account with my web hoster.
Can anyone help with script/code or somewhere I can start to
look to set up this database and code on my own servers rather than
pay a third party to do it?

called 'honeypot'.

Reminders lists get scrambled on iPad

When I add a new list on my iPad3 running iOS7 my lists instantly change sort order on the iPad and it throws all of my iCloud lists out of order as well. The problem does not occur if I add the list from iCloud or on my iPhone. But whenever I add a new list on the iPad it scrambles the order of my Reminders lists and I have to manually put them back in the sort order I want. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I've now upgraded to an iPad Air 2 and I am experiencing the same issue. This seems to be something fundamental with the OS. After my original post I contacted Apple Support and they acknowledged the issue. They said they needed to get back to me and nrver followed up. I will contact them again With this new info on the latest iPad.

Scrambled Screen from a virus?

I just want to report a possible virus attack. I'm skeptical that this could be the problem, but ever since the antivirus scan, the problem has been eliminated. Here's how it all happened:
On Wednesday night:
1. I woke the computer up from sleep mode and the screen was completely scrambled. I was able to move the mouse, but I wasn't able to control any functions and could not move any windows.
2. I did a hard shutdown by holding down the power button.
3. restarted and cleared the PRAM. during startup, the Apple symbol was scrambled, but the login screen was not.
4. I restarted again and reset the SMC. The same symptoms were there. So, I entered the desktop and everything looked fine. But then when I woke from sleep mode, the screen was scrambled.
5. I inserted the Snow Leopard installer disk and ran the disk utility. It found major problems and was able to fix them.
6. I restarted the computer and everything was starting up perfectly. I entered the desktop and after a few minutes the screen began to flash repeatedly and then went back to a scrambled screen. This symptom did not come from exiting from sleep mode.
7. I ran the Snow Leopard installer disk utility again and found no problems with the hard drive.
8. I ran a hardware test (AHT) with one of the disks that came with my MacBook Pro to rule out hardware problems. Everything passed the test.
9. My next question was. Could this be a trojan virus? The symptoms just seemed to point at this. I restarted and while the screen was clear, I went into apple.com and found a freeware antivirus app called SOPHOS.
10. I ran a scan and while it was scanning the problem happened again. I did a reboot, ran the antivirus app and found that it successfully quarantined 5 trojans. 4 of which were in my User-Library-Mail directory and one in my Downloads directory. I checked and the trojans were listed as Windows OS viruses. I eliminated these threats and now I no longer have this scrambled screen problem. Could this have been a virus attack?
Today, when I look back through the console.app and under the Diagnostics and Usage Messages, I found that around the time of the last incident I had a error that reads:

I found the solution to this problem.

I could see on this page exactly what I was experiencing. It was a problem with my NVIDIA video card as mentioned in that apple document.
I took my computer to an Apple store, the Genius ran a scan and found nothing wrong. I showed a print-out of the above support document to the Genius and he said that it wasn't a real document and just for customer information. I couldn't believe what I was hearing from this man and he refused to watch a video that I took on my iPod Touch of my Mac Book Pro screen showing the artifacts of scattered pixels on the screen.
That same day, I took my computer to an apple certified service shop for a 2nd opinion. That guy then ran the same exact scan and then my computer completely shut down during the scan, it could not be restarted and he was not able to see the results of the video card test. He contacted Apple support and they said to send it to them in Texas. They completely replaced the video card along with the logic board since both boards are connected together. All this done free of charge. The problem has been fixed, no more artifacts on the screen as described in the above support link.
I think the Genius at the Apple store needs to get his head examined.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't work Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
