Scrambled picture in background on photo booth

Have just installed leopard and have been trying to use the new background features in photo booth but the picture is breaking up and scrambling, i have both re started and power off'd but this has not helped. does anyone have a solution please?????

So they are "New" in that you have just got Leopard (Not Extra ones) ?
Ok they are somewhat Light and Colour dependant.
For Instance.
Lighting in front of you (Screen side) is much better than windows or lighting behind you.
Also if any of your clothing matches the background when you are out to the screen then that will show through. ( a top the same colour as the walls or a black top where the chair in view in the background is also black - that sort of thing - include dark hair where a shadow or dark background is)
Overhead lighting that is behind you can cause a sort of halo effect.
Having said that you seem to be saying it is at the point of the count down to the "Flash" that things seem to go awry.
This may be improved by increasing the lighting to reduce the effect of the Screen "Flash"

  • How to get solid color background in Photo Booth?

I checked the Help menu for Photo Booth and my experience does not match the descriptions in the Help. I want to have the speaker in front ofd the iMac with a deep blue background. I found a deep blue swatch of color in Google and placed it into the thumbnail. As per instructions, I clicked onto that thumbnail. However, at this point the instructions stop matching my experience.
The colors seems to slowly ever so slowly fill the rectangle. Sometimes a message saying “Get out of the picture” comes up, so I get out of the picture and let the color fill the thumbnail rectangle.
Is it supposed to take a long time for the color to completely fill the box? The Help menu doesn't mention how long one must wait.
Any word on this would be appreciated.

Yeah, I also experience problems with the video and user-choosable backgrounds in photo booth. I think the preview's of these effects on apple's website are a little touched up because I can't imagine somebody getting one of these backgrounds to look perfect. But when choosing these effects make sure what you are wearing doesn't blend in with what is behind you and I think the best way to set the background is to stay in the picture at first until it tells you to move and then get out of the way. Hope this helps(although I'm not sure there is much that can be done with this issue)!

I just tried another thing that worked! make sure your macbook isn't plugged into the power source, then hold your power button in for 10 to 15 seconds until it turns off, and you do that 5 times, and then plug it back in and give your photobooth a go. Mine worked!

  • Photo booth pictures not Showing in Photo Booth

When i open photo booth, none of my last pictures i have taken show up in the bottom of photo booth, is there anyway i can get them to show up?

Just a thought, but you could've inadvertantly clicked on the little x at the bottom left of the pic. Not to fear though, they are in your photo booth directory.

  • Can I use hologram or invisible cloak with other backgrounds in photo booth?

I want to use Hologram or Invisiblity cloak with other backdrops. Is there a way i can do that in Mavericks?

If I understand what you want to do.
    From Photo Booth Help.
    Create a custom backdrop
Photo Booth comes with several backdrops, but you can use your own photos and videos to create additional backdrops.
You can use a prerecorded video as a custom backdrop. If you use a digital video camera to record a video backdrop, set the camera to use fixed focus, exposure, and white balance.
    Open Photo Booth
If you’re using Photo Booth in full screen, move the pointer to the top of the screen, then click the Exit Full Screen button .
If you’re viewing a photo or a video, click the View Video Preview button .
    Click the Effects button.
Browse through the backdrops until you reach User Backdrops.
Drag a photo or video to one of the User Backdrop frames. You can drag a picture or video from your desktop, the Finder, iMovie, iPhoto, or Safari.
You can use this custom backdrop whenever you take a photo or record a video.

  • Can't drag user backdrop into photo booth

I can't drag and drop picture backdrops/backgrounds into photo booth. Ive tried dragging images from iphoto and the desktop but when i drop them on the silhouette a circular geen logo with the plus sign in it appears. I click again and nothing happens.
Has anybody got any ideas at all?
    Many Thanks

    Umm,
When I added the Nightscape and Hillside pics (two pics from my daughter's trip to China) I added then straight from a folder within my Home Folder/Pictures.
I opened iPhoto and chose one Event and added the Beach Pic (Bournemouth, UK) and then another Event and added the Stonehenge pic.
I am simply Clicking and Dragging the Pic over the User Backdrop space and then Letting go once I see the Green + symbol  (I am not clicking again).
It sounds from your description that you do not have Permission to Write to the Photo Booth .plist
    Could you do the following.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder
Copy and Paste this bold text into the dialogue box.
    ~/Library/Preferences
You should now be in the Preferences Folder.
    Find the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist
Click on it once to highlight.
Do a Get Info (CMD and I keys together or use the File Menu)
At the bottom do you Own the File ? (you may need to use the Padlock and then the Cogwheel icon - if your name is greyed Out you already Own it)
Do you have Read and Write permissions in the list above ?
Example Pic (not a .plist though)

  • Photo Booth backgrounds not working

My backgrounds in Photo Booth don't seem to be working right, assuming I'm doing it right. I can't find any kind of tutorial on it on the Apple web site. When I choose the background, and it says to step out of the frame, I do so, but then when I return to the frame, my face is totally pixelated and some of the surrounding background bleeds through. What I am doing wrong?

    Everyone is having this problem.
Yes the demo on the apple website looks perfect, but not for us who try it.
It doesn't matter if you have bags of memory, fast processor, everyone still gets this problem. Some have improved the situation by moving and changing lights to different positions or put a plain background behind them. But overall pixelated and holes appear. Hopefully there will be a fix for this.

  • Photo Booth Backgrounds

After installing 10.5.2, I've not been able to get a "moving" background for Photo Booth. It simply immediately says "Background Detected." It also leaves the shadow of the cut-out person still there. Could it have anything to do with my new camera? (Sony DCR-HC52) It still works fine for the other effects, just not the background ones. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I think I figured your problem out. I am having the same problem with the Panasonic PVGS 120, its about 3 years old but works with the Mac. Though it gives me the same error as you, "Back Ground Detected" and has the shadow still on the frame and you can't see yourself.
Get ready for this...the problem is the camera. Your camera is fine, but Photo Booth will not work with that Camera. Try this camera, Logitech Quick Cam for Mac.
The only reason I know this is because I tried both cameras and the LogicTech works with the background replacement and my 3CCD Panasonic does not.
I don't know if there are any other cameras that will work with the Mac inside Photo Booth to replace the backgrounds. But I hope this helps.

  • MBR2011 I take pictures using photo booth. I have a problem i am married and when i take the pictures my wedding ring appears to be on my right hand, and it should be on my left. I also held items in my my right hand and they appear to be in my left hand

If i have something on the left side of my shirt it appears to be on my right. I am married and my wedding ring appears to be on my right , and it should be on my left finger. Please help?

Option A: Open the images in an image editing program that offers a "flip horizontal" command, and use it.
Option B: Put your ring on your right hand when you want to take a picture of yourself using Photo Booth. :-)

  • Photo Booth Spinning Beach Balls

Within a few minutes of use using the background animations, Photo Booth gives a spinning beach ball and eventually closes.
Any suggestions on how to prevent this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Steve

    Hi,
IF this is a Core 2 Duo Processor you could try setting Photo Booth to Open in 32 Bit Mode.
(Do a "Get Info" on the Photo Booth Application in the application folder).

  • Editing Photo Booth pics in iPhoto?

Hey I'm new here and kinda new to Macs. I just got a MacBook yesterday, and I have been toying around with Photo Booth. I was wondering if I can edit Photo Booth images in iPhoto because when i try to edit it, I get a dotted-line box with a question mark in the center where the picture to be editted is supposed to be. Am I doing something wrong or can I not edit Photo Booth pictures in iPhoto?

Photo booth effects are not available to process iPhoto photos - you can suggest to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

  • Photo Booth in Leo - dark pics bug

This bug exists since Leo 10.5 and still here in 10.5.2
The problem is, that when I launch Photo Booth and make some pics they looks fine for the first time. But if I choose one of Effects, make picture and then view it, all other new pics become extremely dark (nor using effects neither normal mode). Preview window also is dark. It happens only after viewing effects' photos. Like something turns off, during switching from photo view to camera preview. So I have to relaunch Photo Booth.
I cleaned caches, preferences - bug is still here and always appears the same way. In 10.4 Tiger I had no problems at all, so it seems to be new OS bug. Appears in all Leo versions, including 10.5.2.
    I'm using MBP 15' C2D 2.2
    What's wrong?

Seems like it has more to do with the careless way I maintain my computer that with other factors. Some files (no matter if they have been downloaded or not) are stored as quartz other as movie files in my resource folder. When all effects run as either movies or quartz it seems fine, they don't play well when mixed. The video player expects one format to play and finds it hard to switch settings between two different file types. The camera wants to continue the format it opens in and doesn't do A/V, still capture in multiple channels, that's one format it seems. So the effects do fine when all files have the same encoding, when a file gets selected and needs a different encoding the settings don't match.
It helps just to restart Photo Booth, it will last until a file gets selected in a different format. It helps to just change the quality of the encoding in Quicktime Pro's preferences. The only thing I can think of that will more reliable is to only put one movie file format in the resource folder, not 2 formats. The format that is the least demanding for rendering the effects will playback on more set ups, the quality will be a little less though. The picture sooner or later recovers in the mixed mode on my computer, difficult to predict when. If you run Quicktime pro and Photo Booth in two players, iChat's preview will likely display the right picture when opened in preview mode. The picture is fine in Photo Booth as well afterwards.
This is guessing but it seems to be the way my computer behaves, I have no idea if it happens on other set-ups in the same way.

  • Leopard: Photo Booth User Effects Page (Page 4) Missing/Black

I dropped a movie on page 4 to use as a background and Photo Booth crashed. When I restarted the 4th page of effects is just a single black square. I cant add anything to it. If I log into another user account on the same machine the 4th page is correct. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Only just got round to installing Leopard, but I now have an answer for you:
Right-click on PhotoBooth in your Applications folder, and select Show Package Contents
Open the Contents folder, then open Resources
Find the EffectsOrdering.plist file, and open it in Text Edit (right click, Open With, select Other, and locate Text Edit -- you may need to change "Enable" to "All Applications")
Scroll down to the bottom of the file -- you should see a list of user backdrops; return the offending item to its default value (e.g. /user backdrop 1), save thew file, start PhotoBooth, and you should be back to normal.
