  • Mini DV Video - Storage for Mac and Windows

I have about 16 hours of miniDv video that I have imported through iMovie and is now saved on an External HD connected to my Time Capsule. I have a Windows machine wirelessly connected and I would like to be able to access these files. I do not seem to be able to open the saved files. Any thoughts on either how I could make this content readable by both Mac and Windows?

To read it in iMovie on Mac, your drive must be formatted as Mac OS Etended (journaled).
For Windows, you drive can be formatted FAT32 (readable and writable by Mac (but not by iMovie)) or
you can format as NTFS, which is read only by Mac.
Your best bet is to format a different drive as FAT32 and copy these files to it.

  • Video Blaster Webcam Plus and Windows XP

I have a Video Blaster Webcam Plus which was purchased in 2000. Having just up-graded to a new PC using Windows XP I would be grateful for any information on how to install the software to make it run!

Hey I'm having the same problem, and thought that maybe we'd get more help if a few people had this happening? It won't even install for me, when the camera is almost done, the camera beeps twice to say its on and then my computer turns blue and dies. i dont really like that screen, so if anyone can fix it or tell me what to do?

  • Share files between Mac and Windows in same iMac with boot camp

    Hello,
I am new in using Mac and recently I buy a IMac 24" model.
I used to use PC a long time with a lot of old document.
I want to install Windows XP with boot camp.
But I also want to share my documents, music, video files between Mac and Windows in same iMac.
    How can I do this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

Hi Eric and welcome to Discussions and the Apple world.
Mac OSX can read and write from Windows partitions (like the BootCamp Windows partition you are about to create) when using FAT32 as file system for Windows.
However with FAT32 you are limited to a partition size of 32GB.
Mac OSX can also read from Windows partitions that uses the NTFS file system, but it can not write to them unless you use a third-party helper like either Paragons NTFS for Mac http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ or NTFS-3G http://www.ntfs-3g.org/
Windows can not even see or use a Mac OSX partition without additional help by MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/

  • Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies.  How do I reverse this?

Help, I installed parallel and windows, and opened videos (on an external hard disk) with windows, and now cannot open them with Mac, and use i movies.  How do I reverse this?

Paragraphs help the reader, just saying.
What are you actually trying to do? Why do you need "DVD size" folders if you're creatng an Archive on an external hard drive?
Also, I understand burning folders instead of individual photos or albums gives you more space on a DVD.
It makes no difference at all.
How can I keep the captions on my photos (not events) when I print or transfer to a new folder?
You can export while writing the metadata to the file in most cases.
Tne only way I know is to copy photos from the Windows to folders on my HD, then copy and paste photos or albums or events to HD, then create a new folder and fill it to the appropriate DVD size.
HD? Another HD? You use HD there in a way that makes no sense. What's the point of 'DVD size'?
I also thought I should download future photos to my Canon programming that comes with EOS cameras and edit and then decide which photos to save to iPhoto library and which to save only to my archival HD?
Does this have any relation to the previous questions? You know you can delete from iPhoto, right?
You're somewhat confused and you need to
    1. Decide what exactly you want to do
    2. Then go about it.
If I understand you correctly - and there's no guarantee that I do -  the easiest thing is to bring all your Photos into iPhoto and do everything from there.
You can have an archive on an external disk, you can sort and select and edit with or via iPhoto

  • Boot Camp 2.x and Windows XP incompatible with Radeon 1600 Video Adapter

Using Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 from a Leopard Install, I generated a 20GB partition and installed Windows XP SP2 reformatting during the install to NTFS. At this point things seemed to be working well. I then used my Leopard Install disk to update the MAC drivers. Now when I tried to reboot, I see the Windows splash window, the screen goes black, the screen goes cyan, then the screen goes black and stays that way. At this point, I cannot do anything with the Windows XP partition other than a power down by holding the power key. If I try to reboot on the XP partition, it goes through a hard drive repair, then goes black screen, light blue screen, black screen, hung. I can boot with Safe Boot, but I have no keyboard or trackpad drivers. I can run the system with an external USB mouse and keyboard.
A friend found that the Video Adapters being used were a problem. (We can't find the reference.) If I go to Start/RightClick My Computer/Hardware/Device Manager/Video Adapters, I can right click on whatever adapters are located there and Uninstall them. At this point, the system will boot up fine using a generic video adapter. I don't know how well it would work if you wanted to use it for high speed gaming.
On bootup I could get to the Internet. I went to Start/All Programs/Windows Update and did the Windows Update. I did it twice to get everything updated to Service Pak 3. (I have read that there is a problem if you upgrade the Apple Drivers to version 2.1 before you upgrade to Service Pak 3.)
At this point, I installed the Boot Camp Update 2.1 and all worked well. I then installed Update 2.2 and the video was again a problem. It appears that the system was booting up ok, but it was happening behind a black screen. If I booted up in Safe Mode, connected a USB Mouse and Uninstalled the Video Adapter/Radeon 1600, I could boot up and the system worked fine.
Unfortunately, Windows (for the first time that I know of) was smart enough to recognize that there was new hardware (the X1600) and it reinstalled the @!#$#-ed X1600 driver without asking me. Now I couldn't reboot without it hanging again.
The final step was that I found that if, instead of Uninstalling, I Disabled the X1600, I can now run using the generic Video Adapter and Windows does not re-enable it.
I hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem, so they don't waste 2 weeks like I did.

    Hi Dave,
    thanks for these informations.
Before my beloved 2006 iMac went awry and finally bit the dust, I have used the ATI MobilityCatalyst Drivers for XP.
If you're in for another try, here's the link http://support.amd.com/de/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?typ e=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.10&lang=English
Using the Generic Microsoft Graphics driver is IMHO not a solution, as it really only supports a minimum of the capabilities of the X1600 and is definitely not suited for gaming.

  • Stuttering in certain videos in iTunes for Windows 7 and Windows 8

I have stuttering in certain videos in the most recent version of iTunes in Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8 64-bit.  The two specific videos I am talking about are video podcasts...."Windows Weekly HD", and "Security Now HD".  The strange thing is that I can play those videos in Windows Media Player, VLC, Zune, etc, and there is no stuttering at all.  I have no issue with stuttering audio with iTunes.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?  It is really annoying to have to use other software just to watch certain videos.  I appreciate your time.
Also...this has happened on fresh installs of Windows 7 & 8 on the same PC.  I have also tried removing and re-installing iTunes, and all of my drivers for my software are updated, and I have all the updates for Windows.

    Hello,

  • Photoshop CS5 Video Render Never Finishes; Mac and Windows

    Hello,
I've tried rendering a video using Photoshop CS5 and it never finishes. The progress bar reaches the end but the process never completes. The video is only three seconds long (it's the video rendering exercise in Adobe Photoshop CS5: Classroom in a Book, Lesson 12). A 3D postcard is being rendered. First, I tried the settings in the book, H.264, Medium (quality), 15 FPS, 700 x 700, one-pass. That is only 150 frames! It never finished. Since then, I've tried all sorts of output formats from a 70 x 70 pixel WMV file to standard-def DV/DVCPRO NTSC. Nothing finishes. My Mac Pro has 12 GB of RAM with over 8 GB free. Photoshop is at the latest update.
Now, here is the kicker. I had my students try the exercise in the lab at the university where I teach. We have very up-to-date Windows PCs in our lab and Photoshop CS5. The exact same thing happened on the PCs with six of six students, the render never finished.
I've searched to no avail for a posting about this problem. I'm stumped. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

The serial number is platform specific.  So your current serial number will only work on the Mac platform.  You will want to purchase an additional license for Windows.  Alternately once the Creative Cloud is available you can subscribe have one install under Mac OS and another under Windows of the soon to be current version, CS6, if you would like.  You can find more details at http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html?promoid=JQPEQ.

  • Both xp and windows 7 have video problems with my VGA connection using TV

both xp and windows 7 have video problems with my VGA connection using TV as my monitor when it gets to starting up windows no matter what version it will not I have let my mac on all night and still says starting windows or the windows 7 logo and nothing else will happen also when I use a 3rd patty software like peraills or other it works like a charm how to fix it?

To map the drive on your computer click on Start - RUN - type "\\192.168.1.1" and click ok... When prompted for Username and Password type "admin" and click ok... Now you will be able to see the folder which you have shared on  your router, right click on it and select "Map network drive" and click on finish.
Now it will map the drive on your computer and you should be able to transfer the file from your computer to the USB drive.

  • Video formats and optimum settings for both Mac and Windows XP

Now this is a strange one: I create a Windows Media (WMV) file and it plays great on the Mac (I have Flip4Mac installed also). However, it doesn't play on Windows XP in MSIE -- but the QuickTime (.M4V file) does. I do have QuickTime installed on the WXP. I guess the following questions are of interest not only to me but to a lot of people:
    1. What are the absolute optimum settings and format for a QuickTime file that will be played on an Apple in Safari or other browser? .MOV? .M4V? .MP4?
    2. Same question for Windows XP. .AVI? .WMV?
I know there is a lot of already available information on this but I'm looking for a video expert who has troubleshot this to death and has this down and working on an existing website.
NOTE: I would make it a Flash file but Keynote exports a non-playing Flash format file as does QuickTime, so no luck there. Also, for some stupid reason Keynote separates the audio and video when exporting to a QuickTime movie and what's with that?
Sorry this got long but not only I, but I'm sure a lot of people have this set of questions. Much appreciated.

Depends – if you are planning on connecting to an Exchange Server then I would suggest that you install Crossover (www.codeweavers.com) on your Mac’s and then Office 2003/Outlook. I am connecting to an Exchange Server running Windows Small Business Server 2003 and have not had any problems using Outlook and sharing Calendar data between my XP and Mac systems.
If you are not planning on using Exchange and your mail usage is not that demanding (less than 20 messages daily) the you could use the basic Mail clients that come with OSX (Mail) and Windows (Outlook Express).

  • Video Editing for Iphone 3GS and Windows

While not really a question about the IPhone itself, I was wondering if anyone knew a system for editing the videos you get from your iphone. I have a PC and Windows Movie Maker but the videos from my phone are not compatible with WMM. I would like to know another FREE movie making system for Windows so I can edit the videos I take on my IPhone.

You can use a video conversion program to convert the video into a format to use with Windows Movie Maker. Just google for that and you will find many, both free and paid. One that comes to mind is Zamzar which is free. Once converted just import into Movie Maker and edit.

  • I bought a movie on iTunes but when I try to watch it plays back slowly with no sound.  Then the video will speed up and the sound will work for a moment then off again and back to slow motion.  I have a dell laptop running windows 7

    Hi Normanwh,
If you are having video playback issues in iTunes on your Windows machine, you may find the following article helpful:

Why are some jpg images scrambled when they appear in my screen saver?   The same images look fine in Preview and Finder.  Some images appear scrambled in the screen saver 'preview' window and the actual screen saver. Other jpg images look fine.

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos.  However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled.  What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

My current version of Chrome is having problems, too! It's so annoying. Anyone have any suggestions now? I basically can't view or download any PDFs because of this.
Does anyone else think this is a problem not only with Adobe? I would think Apple would have something to do with this? Wouldn't they get some idea from the developer versions that no browser can open PDFs while running Lion!? Pretty bad customer service on the part of a company that prides itself on being VERY customer-friendly. Wouldn't you say?

  • All Firefox tabs and windows lock up when a single tab can't download a file (video, pdf, etc.)

If I am trying to load a webpage that contains a video, pdf file, or other large file, sometimes the webpage locks up, and then ALL other Firefox windows and tabs lock up as well (the entire program is frozen). This doesn't happen with IE or Chrome (in Internet Explorer, even though a tab may lock up from loading a large file, the other tabs and windows are still useable). Is there some kind of pluggin I can install to prevent this from happening?

Hi - yes I can! I hadn't noticed that little arrow before, thanks.
However I would really like to stop it hiding the first tab all the time.... Even when I navigate to the first tab using that "list all tabs" arrow, it still remains 'hidden' (i.e. I can't see a tab up the top, even when that tab is active. And when I navigate away from it to another tab, it is invisible again).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
