Scrambled Windows

Does anyone have any idea why I can spend time organizing the icons in my window only to have it scrambled up the next time my computer is booted up? It had not done this until I updated something very recently, but I can't remember what. I had surrendered and set the window on list mode but the next reboot produced the same scrambled icon look (and everytime since as well). It doesn't do this with all windows but the hard drive one and one other. Also, it will not let me enlarge it and keep its new size-it always opens up more small than I want. Is there reason for concern?

Sliphorn,
"Also, do you have to keep the "Previous Systems" folders? I thought I had read before that you could not get rid of these."
If you have retrieved everything that you need from them, yes they can be eliminated.
In fact, you may recover a substantial amount of free disk space.
How many times have you Archived & Installed?
My Documents folder in is my Home account folder.
My iTunes is in the Applications folder.
My Stuffit folder is in my Utilities folder.
My Printers are in the HD's Library > Printers folder.
I'm not sure why yours are not in those locations.
I created a personal folder in my Home account folder named My Stuff, that I use to store things that are not needed by the system. That folder has numerous sub-folders.
That where I store all my personal created documents, downloads of installed updates that I wouldn't want to have to download again, installers I haven't gotten around to applying, photos, that I do not keep in iPhoto, images that I have downloaded, etc.
I'm not sure what all of your extra folders are for, what they contain, or how that were placed there, so I can't tell you exactly what can be moved.
But if some of the items were deposited there by you, it would probably be safe to create a new location for them.
If you do move anything, make sure you know how to return it to it's original location, on the chance the move creates a problem.

  • Safari page opens dark, chaotic, scrambled windows, slanted windows

For several versions of Safari to include the latest, the first page opens dark and with slanted colorful windows. It makes it impossible to pick something on the page or to go to another link on the page because it is un-readable. What can I do? I have removed and reloaded several times with the same results.

hmmm weird , your best off going into edit, prefrences and going onto apperances , play around with the font smoothing and other things on there

  • Snow Leopard and Adobe Photoshop CS4

    Hi!
I've recently switched from custom built PCs to a Mac workstation, mainly for professional photography and editing purposes. I use photoshop roughly 12 hours a day (if not more...sigh), so switching to Mac would, in my mind, streamline and enhance my work experience.
    ...and it has!
However, Photoshop CS4 will often crash when doing a "Save as", which is the whole reason behind my post. I've tried fixes found around the internet (rebooting in Safe mode, turning Open GL off, reducing the ram used to 50%....I'm at the one where they're telling me to turn off and on the network...we'll see how that works!).
The other very strange thing with this whole thing, are 3 small scrambled windows that open with photoshop. I'll post a link to a screenshot :
    http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/949/screenshot20100115at105.png
Obviously I'm posting this in this forum, because I haven't had any of those issues when I was on my PC.
Oh, and as for the crash, it's more like a constant spinning beach ball.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Specs :
    iMac i5
    8GB o' ram
1 TB WD external USB2.0 drive attached, using Time Machine on it.
    OSX 10.6.2

Have you talked to Adobe about this issue? I have used Photoshop CS4 on Snow Leopard, and havn't seen any issues. However, the scrambled windows look like what Top Sites in Safari looked like before they (supposedly—I still get it occasionally) fixed it in 10.6.2.
Speaking of which, try re-installing the 10.6.2 combo update.
Also, try using the uninstallers to remove Photoshop (don't forget to deactivate first), and then re-install it.

  • IMac 24" Bootcamp scrambled video Problem in Windows Setup.

I just got a new iMac 24" today and was wondering if anyone else's iMacs are exhibiting display problems in boot camp (see picture links below and description) while in the windows setup screen or other LOW RESOLUTION screen modes.

    http://disgruntleddesigner.com/imac2.JPG
    http://disgruntleddesigner.com/imac3.JPG
In low resolutions screen modes used by windows setup and the windows boot screen, the display is completely scrambled with moving pixel artifacts such as black vertical lines and misplaced color pixels all over the place.
The computer is a brand new 24" iMac 2.4 with all the latest OS updates. I called Apple's tech support and explained the situation and as soon as the tech rep heard the word bootcamp
he essentially turned his ears off. While I understand Apple doesn't support bootcamp I'm pretty sure this is a hardware/firmware issue and NOT a bootcamp thing.. but they suggest I write here instead of bothering them... so here's my plea for help.

Update.. I exchanged the computer for another at Best Buy and this one does NOT have this issue. I suspect it's a firmware or hardware thing after all.

  • Why are some jpg images scrambled when they appear in my screen saver?   The same images look fine in Preview and Finder.  Some images appear scrambled in the screen saver 'preview' window and the actual screen saver. Other jpg images look fine.

Why are some jpg images scrambled when they appear in my screen saver?   The same images look fine in Preview and Finder.  Some images appear scrambled in the screen saver 'preview' window and the actual screen saver. Other jpg images look fine.

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos.  However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled.  What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

  • Quicktime movies play a half scrambled screen  in Windows XP with QT7

Sometimes the quicktime movies in windows xp will only play 1/2 screen and thats scrambled. The lower part of screen is usually a pixaly blue color. The Apple quicktime movies for fcp demos are like that. The same files play fine on my mac. What can I do to correct this if anything.
I am running the latest version of quicktime for windows
    Thanks,

  • Scrambled icons for Windows .EXE and .MSI files in Finder.

For some reason the icons in Snow Leopard for .exe files and .msi files show up as a scrambled image. I wish there was a way to upload a screenshot. Is anyone else seeing this problem. I do have VMware Fusion installed. Not sure if that is causing the issue.
Just to be clear, the icon are scrambled in the Finder, not in any of the VMware sessions.

I'm getting the same thing. When I look at the get info information they are associated with Windows explorer in Bootcamp, so I just changed them over to be associated with VMWare Fusion, which gives me nice plain icons.
I wish there were some way to say all exe files get a certain custom icon. Then I would use the Fusion icon.

  • J2RE Making Windows Flip Out Scrambling Screen

Using Dell GX270 Machines Update Java to latest version. Everything seems to work fine. But when Launching Java in Web pages on occasion the whole screen Scrambles. tool bars on top of screen. windows flickering Machine Locking up etc.. sometimes you can Alt+F4 the application if you are lucky. Mostly you just have to reboot the machine..
After reading through posts I think these Machines have ATI Video cards. Do I need to upgrade the Drivers? or Someone had posted turning off Video Acceleration inside of Java but dont seem to see that option in the control Panel under Java Plugin. Do I put something in the java Runtime Paramaters section under advanced? This happends sporaticly on several machines. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Pixelated/Scrambled screen during boot of Windows using boot camp

Occaisionally, when booting up my mac into Windows (Xp Pro 32 bit or win7 64 bit) I get a horribly scrambled/pixelated image and the boot ultimately fails. I'll have to retry sometimes many times in order for it to eventually boot correctly. If I stay in windows, there is usually no issue. However, if I boot from Mac to Windows, there is an issue almost EVERY time. The scambling for XP and win7 is similar but there are some differences.
With XP I get diagonal strips of partially pixelated lines right after the gray apple logo screen. Sometimes this will resolve on the XP loading screen and everything is fine. Other times, the lines persist and the load fails.
With 7, its a jumble of colored bars and flashing ?'s

I am having the same problem as of 3 days ago...while viewing internet in safari the screen turns greenish with pixalated images and then stalls....have to reboot many times to get to log on window...this is the first time I am having this problem

  • Safari window becomes scrambled and looks like...

...something Jackson Pollock created. Does anyone know why this is happening? It happens intermittently but enough to be a nuisance. The rest of my display is fine...only the portion of the display within the Safari window has this issue. Thoughts? If needed, I can post a screenshot. Thanks in advance for any help!

(First check that you have checked the box Enable Plug-ins in Safari Preferences/Security! )
Update 10.6.4 included an out-of-date version of FlashPlayer*. Try deleting it and installing the latest one from Adobe even if it has the same version number as the one you have:
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
    * To avoid this situation in the future, Apple recently announced that Macs would in future not have Flash Player pre-installed, precisely to avoid this situation, saying:
We're happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe.
They also noted that this will be happening across all Macs in the future, though there may be some models still in the channel with Flash pre-installed.
    (Source: http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/22/apple-responds-on-missing-flash-in-new-macboo k-airs-says-get-us/ )
It is also interesting to note that more than half of the security issues addressed by the recent security update 2010-007 (for Leopard and Snow Leopard) were Flash related:
    http://photos.appleinsider.com/cve.001.jpg
"the most security vulnerabilities by far are associated with the Adobe Flash plugin, with a whopping 55 issues listed, the "most serious of which may lead to arbitrary code execution," Apple reports in its Apple Product Security update.
The security issues related to Flash are in fact the stated reason why Apple is backing away from bundling the plugin with its new computers. Apple began shipping the MacBook Air without Flash installed, noting that customers could install the plugin on their own to ensure they had the latest, most secure version.
However, testing indicates that in normal operation, Flash can also consume dramatic amounts of battery life just to animate web ads in the background, resulting in as much as two hours of lost productivity on a single charge."

  • Ipod Freezes and scrambles PLEASE HELP

    Josh
oh and im running a PC with windows XP fully updated and fairly new.

If you bough the extended warranty, it should still be covered (otherwise, probably not).
You can try taking it in to Apple, they'll fix it for free if it's under warranty.
If they want you to pay, it's your call, but I'd probably just get a new one (they're pretty cheap these days).
You could also try waiting a few days, sometimes it just warms up or whatever, and will work if you wait enough.
As a VERY last resort, a friend told me that Apple suggested just banging it on a table a few times.
Don't hold me to this, and don't do it unless you'd lose your iPod anyway. Don't blame me if it makes it worse, I warned you.
    Good luck!
    -Nate

  • Many songs on my iPad are cut off before completion, or are scrambled (bits of different tunes mixed in with other tunes).

I am running iTunes 11.0.3.42 on Windows 8, and am an iTunes match subscriber.  I have approximately 2700 songs in my library - maybe 1/2 and 1/2 ripped from my CD collection and the rest purchase exclusively through iTunes.  None of this music is pirated.
When playing this music back on my iPad, I am finding that many songs are cut off before they complete.  When this happens, they continue to play, but it is just silence.  Additionally, many other tunes are scrambled, with bits of other songs mixed together into one.  When going back to iTunes on my PC, I will sometimes find that the songs play fine there - but sometimes they behave as they do on the iPad.
This happens whether or not I run my library with iTunes match on the iPad.  I have redownloaded all my songs to try to repair this, with mixed results.  It will often fix the songs that I was having trouble with - but then other songs will begin to show the same type of problems.  I know that 2700 songs is not an immense library, but it is too large for me to systematically review the whole library - which makes tracking these problems very difficult.
I have seen similar types of complaints on the forums ranging over the last several years.  It also seems that these problems have been "solved" by many different methods.  Nothing I have found has worked for me - or only worked with the mixed results I mention above.  I wonder if these individuals have actually been getting the mixed results I am finding.
This is truly frustrating, as I do not do anything exotic with my library, and have not pirated, but gotten my music honestly.  I also have ripped my entire CD collection into iTunes, and have gotten rid of the CD's - as I have NEVER had similar problems to this in all the many years I have been using iTunes.  Suddenly I find that I have a majorly corrupted library, with seemingly no way out.  I cannot even abandon iTunes since I have such an investment in it.  At a minimum of $.99 per song it would cost me almost $2700 to replace my library honestly, and that is at the low end of what I would pay.  I don't know about you - but I don't have three grand to blow on replacing a music library I already paid for just to get away from a crappy product (sorry Apple - but what the heck else would you call this nonsense?).  Makes a dude covet taking an eye-patch.
I am screwed and doubt there's a way out - but I have no choice but to ask for help.  Anyone?
