Scratch file program error?

I've gotten this a couple of times recently. Scratch is on a separate disc and large enough. This was a from a 2 x 2" document as I was trying to paste a smart object from Illustrator. Any ideas?

The first thing that I would research would be Permissions on the HDD with the Scratch Disks.
Is it an internal HDD?
You say "enough space." How much?
Any networked HDD's in the system?
Are you running from an Administrator Account, and not just a User Account with Administrative privileges?
What OS?
Good luck, and others will probably have a few more questions.

  • CS6 Won't open files - Program Error

When I try to open files in CS6, I get an error "Could not complete your request because of a program error."     I have restarted PS and rebooted the machine.
    Running Mac OS 10.6.8
    2.8 GHz   Core i7
    12 GB Ram
The same files open fine on CS5.

    Chris,
There are no log files in the settings folder.
    Curt,
I have the "Open in CS6" available in Bridge.   When I open a jpg from Bridge, same PS error.  If I open a CR2 in ACR, ACR is fine, but when I tell it "open image" (in ACR), ACR closes, and nothing happens in Photoshop.  No message.  If I double-click a CR2 image from bridge, I get the PS error.
    Howard,
Same error regardless of file type.
    Thanks for the help.

  • PS c24 won't open any psd files - program error

    my system:
I'm running photoshop c24 extended. I've got an iMac running osx v.10.5.6, 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo, and have 2gb SDRAM
This morning (29/01/09) I installed a software updates - the iLife media browser update, iDVD update, Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update and Quicktime update. After starting my computer back up I have not been able to open any psd files in photoshop. Jpgs open all right and I am able to create new files. But, anytime that I try to open and existing psd file, it opens up and then I immediately get the following message:
"could not complete your request because of a program error."
If I click ok, the same message pops up again and again, essentially freezing up photoshop and forcing me to force quit the app.
I've tried opening up the same psd files on my laptop and they open just fine. I also tried going back into time machine to retrieve earlier versions in case the psd files I was working with in case they had been corrupted. Nothing has worked... seems to be photoshop not the files.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tried doing the "repair permissions" thing and at first I thought it worked - I was able to open a few psd files. Then I started getting the same problem again.
I don't think ilife installed any fonts - but when I tried to open a different file just now i got a message about some corrupt font files which i didn't get earlier. So I just ran a check with fontBook on all my fonts - got rid of 5 corrupt fonts and about 50 duplicate fonts.
I'm hesitantly optimistic in saying that I think that solved the problem!
    thanks for the help!

  • RAW files -- Program Error with Photo Elements 12

When I open RAW (Nikon D7000 NEF file) files it tells me it cannot complete my request due to a program error.  What can I do to fix this?  If I try to open the same file a second time, it will open it.  I'm running Windows 8.1.

Also you could try optimizing the catalog from Organizer:
    File >> Manage Catalogs
Select you current catalog and click the button to Optimize
The process also optimizes the thumbnails which may help.

  • I have cc2014 and I want to bridge to DAZ Studio .duf file.  In PS I choose File Automate DAZ Studio 3d bridge - get error message "could not complete DAZ Studio 3D Bridge command because of program error".  What's going on.

I get error message when trying to open DAZ Studio 3D bridge in PS 2014 from the File and Automate Menu.
Error reads "could not complete DAZ Studio 3D Bridge command because of program error?"
According to User Documentation  I should get a dialog box which allows me to click on "Launch DAZ Studio"
    Why is there a problem?

You have something messed in with your Photoshop or OS install.  You need to troubleshoot that first.

  • "Scratch file" Error Message

I've uninstalled, then re-installed CS4. While I can get at CS4 Illustrator, Bridge and InDesign, the one I need (Photoshop) doesn't open. I get the error message "Could not open a scratch file because of disk error." When I click "OK," the program shuts down.
    I'm open for your suggestions.

Try resetting preferences in PS.  Start PS and immedately hold down ctrl alt shift keys (Win OS).  You will get a reset window if fast enough.
    Mac cmd option shift
If this works go into preferences and see what your scratch disk is set to.

  • Can't open file: "Could not complete your request because of a program error"

I have a Photoshop file that suddenly won't open.  Last week I upgraded to CS5--the file had been created in CS3 prior to that.  When I try to open it, I receive this error message (in CS5): "Could not complete your request because of a program error."  I tried to open the same file in CS3; there, the file opens, but as soon as I try to do anything I get the same error message....which, annoyingly, re-appears the second I click "OK," so the only thing I can do in CS3 is force-quit.
I've used Time Machine to retrieve versions of the file that were saved four days ago, seven days, and several weeks ago, and I get the same message every time.  Even on versions that were last saved with CS3 (before I installed CS5).
Naturally, this is one of the most important files in my life right now....it's a 300 MB file that contains hundreds of layers and dozens of comps.  So the fact that I suddenly can't open it, after shelling out $1200 to upgrade to the latest and greatest Adobe has to offer, is, to say the least, distressing.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    TheWocky

First thing I would do is investigate hard drive issues and the health of the OS.

  • Cannot open files ~ Could not complete your request because of a program error

I can inly open 3 files and then I get this error message ~ Could not complete your request because of a program error
Please help, I am in the middle or a project ...
    Thank you,
    Linda

There is likely a font on that system that's corrupted or for some reason Photoshop just can't deal with.  Fonts are complex things, and it's well known that bad fonts can crash applications.
Ferreting out such a font is normally a matter of removing all but the default fonts, seeing that the problem is corrected, then adding the fonts back in systematically until the offender is isolated.  Yes, this can be tedious.
If it's not a font problem, there's a possibility it's a display driver problem.  To help diagnose that, go into Edit - Preferences - Performance, disable OpenGL Drawing, then restart Photoshop.  If the problem goes away, you'll want to check the web site of the maker of the video card for driver updates.  Don't forget to re-enable OpenGL Drawing again after updating the driver.
    Good luck.

Without proper system information and other details like what files you work with  nobody can tell you much. From corrupted prefs to issues with your PS swap file to actual problems with the fiel storage this could be anything.

  • When opening a file in Photoshop CC I get 'Could not complete your request because of a program error.'

I can see this is a generic error message('Could not complete your request because of a program error.') and I have done my best to read through many of the responses.
It occurs on the second, third, or sometimes fourth file that I try to 'Open', however I can still use the 'Open With' command through Finder.
I have tried resetting the preferences as per Julieanne Kost's recommendations, I have reinstalled Photoshop CC 2014, Generator isn't turned on, I don't have any Third-Party plug-ins loaded, I have tried running it in Safe mode, and I have reset my iMac's PRAM.
    Photoshop doesn't appear to be writing a PSErrorLog.txt file?   (~/Library/Preferences/Photoshop CC Settings/PSErrorLog.txt)
I haven't had any other issues.
I am running Photoshop on OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
    Please can you help me?

Does anyone have any other ideas as this is very frustrating.
    Thanks,

when I open a raw file (NEF Nikon 7100)  and apply setting then click save, I get an error ( could not complete your request because of a program error ). Ideas?

    Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos.

  • Photoshop CS6 program error saving layered files

I recently updated my adobe software and I am still getting issues with saving layered files. I keep gettting program error - only occasionally. Sometimes saving to my desktop works and other times it doesnt. Other coworkers are experiencing same thing ever since they updated. It happens when working on a layered file for any length of time and need to save it out as a layered photoshop file. We are forced to flatten and save as a tif and loose our layers. I think it has something to do with background task but not sure...

Drag the file to your desktop, open the file there, do your edits, save, and then drag back.
Let us know what you are working off. If server, what server software are you using. System preferences >> spotlight, uncheck all items.

  • Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 program error when I place a layer or open a new file

I have just updated to the most recent PS CC2014 version. Twice, in fact, and the same problem persists. At some point while working on a file it will become impossible to place a new layer or open a new file. Other program functions work, but these will produce an error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." It's very frustrating and the only solution is to restart the program which will run fine for a while and then do it again.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Or better still, has anyone found a solution to this issue?
    Richard

I am experiencing a similiar problem.
Ever since I upgraded to CC I have received this error after using Photoshop for more than 5 mins, or trying to performing tasks such as: placing a linked file, copying and pasting, dragging and dropping an image or even using "File>Open"
I did a complete system clean install of Yosemite, and reinstalled CC completely 3 times.
Any assistance in resolving would be greatly appreciated!

  • Photoshop gives "Program Error" when I try to open files while VPN

I think this may be a new one. While VPN on my company network, Photoshop CS cannot open any files. Either drag and drop, double click or even file open command. You get the clock and the message "failed to open because of a Program Error.... " or something close to that. I'm sure it says Program Error though. Works fine if I'm not VPN but soon as I'm on it stops opening files or even creating a new blank canvas gives that error. I checked Adobe forum and nothing there to find about this one. Anyone else have this happen?

    Hi, SSI.
    1. What VPN client are you using?
As a guess, your VPN client may be blocking a port that PS CS may use for license verification over the Internet. The fact that it works AOK when not using the VPN would tend to support this hypothesis. As to what port it may be attempting to use, I can't say, but you may be able to find this out from Adobe and then work with your firm's networking staff to see if this port can be opened for use when the VPN is active.
    2. You noted that you "checked Adobe forum and nothing there to find about this one." Did you post to the Adobe Photoshop forum? If not, I recommend doing so.
    3. You wrote: "You get the clock and the message "failed to open because of a Program Error.... " or something close to that. I'm sure it says Program Error though."As FYI, in cases such as this, copying down the exact text of the message is helpful.
    Good luck!
