I purchased CS2 a few years ago, and my computer recently crashed. I'm trying to reinstall it on a new computer, but the CD is apparently scratched. Is there a place where CS2 is available for download? I have a valid serial number.

Partitioning the Harddrive for a scratch disk for CS1 & CS2

Hello all...
I need to see if there is a way to partition the harddrive on the work macs for the use of a scratch disk. We have a dual 2.0 G5 and a Quad.
The only thing is the fact that there are tons of materials on these macs as we are a advertising agency and are in the process of migrating all workable files to a new mac server that was ordered this week.
Can this be done without wiping the HD first?
Our apps mainly CS1 on some machines and CS2 on the Quad seem to run a tad bit slow. Could this be to not having a scratch disk for these adobe programs.
Or should we wait until the server has arrived and then just reformat the machines at that time?

Never partition the boot drive. Even if it is used for scratch (and even if you set another drive for primary scratch the boot drive will still be used some). Keep your boot drive free of everything else except the system and applications.
Order some RAM, order a 2nd drive for each system. And a dedicated scratch disk - meaning you would need a 2 or 4-channel SATA host adapter for PCI-X.
You might want to use WD's 10K 150GB Raptor for boot drive (and yes, it works just fine on the DC/Quad G5s). The 10K 74GB Raptor makes a nice disk also and could also be used for scratch disks in a RAID. Use your original OEM drive just for local data.

I would speculate that you need a minimum of 4-6GB RAM, and 8-10GB of RAM might be in order; along with a 2-4-8 drive RAID as well.

Old school with CS2. Haven't used in a while and am unable to use the program as it says my serial number is invalid. Customer service tells me the server for CS2 has been shut down. Then they sent me here for help. Does anyone have any advice?

CS2 is very old and reached its "end of life" a while back. So probably won't run on modern operating systems. If you can still run it, you'll need to uninstall what you have and re-install with the download link below to activate it.

Camera Raw update for CS2

Will Adobe be supporting camera raw for CS2 any more? I got CS2 last year and I can't afford to update to CS3. CS2 camera raw 3.7 does not read Canon D40 raw file.

Believe me, I fully understand your situation about not being able to upgrade at this point. It is sometimes difficult to tell from the writing why someone chooses not to upgrade. There are a few people who don't want to upgrade just because they feel that Adobe is being unfair. But Adobe has their marketing strategies and other reasons why ACR 4.x will not work with older versions of Photoshop.
One of the main reasons people look forward to a new version of ACR is that the new version always supports additional cameras. There are sometimes other undocumented changes and bug fixes, but the new cameras are the main reason people want to get the new version. Your new camera is supported in the newest version of ACR. That means that it would work as seamlessly as ACR 3.7 works with your older camera. Whenever a new version of ACR is released there is also a new version of the DNG converter that supports all the same cameras as the new ACR. It is always in your best interest to try to have the latest version of the DNG converter as well as the latest version of ACR that is compatible with your version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS2 is no longer being maintained/supported by Adobe. That means that there will be no more updates to the program itself nor for any of the plug-ins. So until you are in a position to upgrade to a new version of Photoshop the DNG converter is your only alternative for working on the raw files from your camera using Photoshop and ACR. Incidentally, the most of current version of ACR and the DNG converter is 4.3.1, not 4.2.

Serial Number (Lack of) for CS2

I am attempting to download CS2 and it is asking me for a serial number. Another user recommended I create a ZIP file, however this is on a work computer so I was granted special privileges once to download the program. How can I find this number or bypass it with out having to re-download files?

Did you pay for PS CS2 many years ago, so you are a licensed user? Be aware that the CS2 licensing servers were decommissioned some years ago so you have to download and install special versions of CS2 and use a special serial number, but this is only for users that originally purchased CS2 and are licensed to use it.

If you don't have this version then I don't know of any way to get it without downloading it. It is unclear what situation you're talking about regarding zip files or special privileges and what that might have to do with a serial number. Also the term "download" typically means to get a file from a far away server (like Adobe's) and copy it to your local PC or Mac using the internet. This process should not, yet, be asking for a serial number. What does ask for a serial number is when you install the program using the installer that was downloaded.

Error when compiling AppleScript for CS2, need help

I've recently started learning AppleScript, and while I'm no stranger to programming I'm a little lost when it comes to errors like this one. I have both InDesign CS2 and InDesign CS3 installed so I'm not sure if my problem is caused by that, they were installed before I started working on this mac. I've also been recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, in case that might be a probable cause.
Basically, my problem stems from this:

When I try to compile this I get a Syntax Error that says "Expected end of line but found class name." and highlights "document". I've also had problems trying to use things like "page 1" or "view preferences" with similar errors. With the case of things like "page 1" I've had to replace it with "item 1 of pages" to get it to compile.
If I change it to "Adobe InDesign CS3" it works fine, but I need to compile for CS2 for backwards compatability. Strangely, this method works:

tell indesign
    using terms from application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
        get active document
    end using terms from
end tell
Does this mean my CS2 dictionary is broken? I can view it fine from the Script Editor, and I've seen things like "active document" used in example scripts, so this syntax error is confusing me.

I'm not sure why you're getting that error, but a couple of things:
Using "document 1" instead of "active document" is not a bad habit,
because there are cases where active document doesn't work.
When you compile the scripts, the version is somewhat irrelevant -- when
you go to run them, they look for a running application of the same creator
code, and use that. It's a bit like when you double-click on a document in
the Finder -- it doesn't matter what version of ID you made it in, it will
try to open in whatever version is running first.

Language swap for CS2 download

Hello,
some time ago while I did my studies in the US I bought an EN version of Creative Suite 2. Now back in Germany I am beginning to want the German version on my screen .
There is this very well known site where you can download all the CS2 files because of the server issue (here the DE-site):

In the text Adobe says I am only allowed to download the files if I have a license. Indeed I have one but an EN, not DE.
On the Adobe sites I read that I am allowed to swap my language within the same product without problem and costs.
1) So does this mean that I am also allowed to download the DE files in the link above?
2) If not: How do I do the language swap for CS2, is this possible anymore, as it is an old product?

hello and thank you for the first answer. Yes, perhaps it works. But I am not wondering if it works technically (Adobe put the files and a serial to that page, so you don't need activation anymore). I asked because of the legal concerns. As you write the serials are language specific I think that it is legally not possible. Perhaps Adobe reads this and thinks about its disclaimers on these pages and if my case is ok (regarding language swap).
I just want to make it right . In case of doubts I continue in EN or change to CS3.

Hello, yes that is where I'm looking. It's an education version so I'm guessing that's why I'm not seeing it listed with the other regular 1130-xxx serial numbers. Platform is PC: 1131-1157-9455-5327-2219-5530.

For CS2 - Unwarping a photographed 8.5x11" page

How do I take a photographed 8.5x11" page that is not symmetrical in the photo and "unwarp" it so that it fits properly into an 8.5x11" image?
Please help with clear instructions. I'm not a PS newbie, but I suspect this will have a lot of variables.
Ideally, it would be as simple as "place points in each of the four corners and auto-stretch, but I know that won't be the case.
Also, is there a way to "batch" this or preset rules to make it easier to do again and again?
I'm including a sample of the page problem below. I photographed hundreds of pages of rare materials in an archive, but you cannot standardize them with a camera.

If you have a chance to go back to the archive, you could improve your photos by placing the camera farther from the page and using a more normal focal length on your lens,
Your photo was shot with a 5.9 mm focal length with a 1/2.5" sensor which works out to approximately 35.4 mm.
This is a bit of a wide angle and is producing the barrel distortion that you are seeing.
Also shooting at a slight angle rather that straight on is why there is more distortion at the top compared to the bottom.
Trying something in the 8.4 - 9.2 mm focal length on your camera (Kodak Z712) will help reduce the barrel distortion and produce pictures that you won't need to struggle with in Photoshop after the fact.
I understand you might not be able to go back and reshoot these pictures, but a sturdy tripod and some planning (take some test shots at home and see what settings are best) will be helpful for future archive photography.

All you need to do is deactivate (check mark remove serial number) and uninstall if you are going to give the computer away.

That doesn't make sense, if you have the original install disc, you need not and should not transfer anything. You insert the disc in your new computer and run the install.
If you mean to tell me you do not have the install disc, then click on the link for a trial CS4 installer, download it to your new PC, enter the serial number and activate.
