Scratches appearing on screen

I have had my Macbook for about two years now but only began regularly toting it around the past month or so when I became a full time student. I always keep it in a padded case in a rolling backpack. This past week small scratches started appearing in the screen. At first it was just a little one but now there are two more in the same exact area. And they always seem to appear after the laptop has been closed - as if the keyboard or plastic is rubbing against the screen. I really don't want this to continue and the scratches to spread! Also, would my extended apple care warranty cover fixing this?

Hi ... listen... i dunno about fixing the problem but u can effectively prevent further damage by placing a thin sheet on your keyboard before closing it. If you recall carefully, your new macbook would have come with a thin foam-like sheet when you got it. right? well we should have kept it but never mind.. even a clean sheet of paper or even better, fine cloth, A4 size cut will do just fine. Place it on your keyboard before closing the laptop. if you are thinking of style, you have a variety of coloured stationery and cloth to choose from out there.... trust me. this helps in the long term

  • Strange circle scratches appearing on MacBook Pro screen

Hey guys I need some help!
My brand new Macbook Pro came last week and I am absolutely in love with it!
Apart from one thing, over the past day (literally) I've had these weird circular scratches appearing on my screen and no matter how hard I try I can't get them off! I've used the special cleaning cloth that came with the laptop to try and gently remove them but it seems like they're actually in the screen if that makes sense. Three have appeared today and I know it wasn't me as I've been taking care of this machine because it cost so much!
If anyone could help that would be much appreciated as I literally just got this thing so I'm wondering should I take it back?
Also when the machine is on I can see the scratches in the screen when there is a white background. If you move your head left to right then you can see different colours in the scratch (sorry if this isn't making sense!) They're not huge scratches but annoying!
    Please help!!
    Thanks!

Guess you're not alone Jen, I have the similar issue, just that I can see the circles with pretty much any color in the screen and not just white. Infact, they jump around like ripples on still water when the screen moves ever so gently. Its a real pain when im doing stuff with the laptop in my lap or when im typing. Have you seen a similar issue when you move the screen?
This issue ive had since I unboxed it (a few days ago), the bubbles can be seen even with the power off, but more evident when its on.
I wrote to the lovely lady who helped me out with my purchase (I was going through Singapore and didnt have long there, and she managed to get the customised MBP to me in time!), she connected me to tech teams and customer relations, but alas im no longer in the country where I bought the MBP (Singapore) and so they cant do an immediate replacement. Ive contacted the local guys (India) and im waiting for them to get back to me.
What urged me to get onto this forum is that today, I discovered that there is an issue with the battery too, it gives me 3+ hours on a full charge, which is half of what it should, right? Quite bummed about this!
(Plus, I didnt get all the cables and plugs that should come with the Mag charger, like the extension cord and the different plug heads. Compounding my growing disappointment. Sigh)
I love the machine, and I loved the initial service I got. I just hope i'll be saying the same if and when this is all resolved.
    Cheers.

  • Fixing minor scratches in ipad screen

I have had an ipad for a couple of years now (original model, 32gb, wifi), and noticed in that last 6 months two small parallel scratches (i think) in the screen. They are both perfectly linear and horizontal, and only 5mm long. One is approx one inch above the other. I noticed them because on a white background they look like rainbows (best description i can give), and when i tilt the screen the colours on the lines move.
Is there any way to fix this? I am really careful with my ipad, and keep it in the apple case. I have no idea how they could have come about, they pretty much just seemed to appear one day (one about 2 months after the other).
Can anyone suggest anything. I have googled a bit, and could only come up with something called 'idrops' which you rub on the screen, but am worried about further damage being caused.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I doubt you can repair scratches in the screen very easily without damaging the screens coating. I use a good approved cleaner to thoroughly clean the screen. My favorite is iKlean but there are others. If the scratch is too noticeable for you then you might consider eventually purchasing a new iPad.
Bits of abrasive dirt could get caught between the cover and the screen when you close the cover. When carrying your iPad these bits might have worked back and forth to cause the scratch. I good rule of thumb is to check the screen for detritus like that before closing the cover.

  • I have a scratch inside my screen...what are my options to fix it?

I don't nescessarily take extra good care of my computer but recently I didn't throw my computer or anything..but i have a scratch on my screen like inside, digitally, but theres no visible scratchh on the actual screen...not sure how it hpapened. But I just got my computer 5 months ago, so I still have the insurance from apple not sure if it covers it, but can i go in and they'll help me with this? or other options for fixing it? also some windows i open start shaking... please help

Since you're still under warranty, it wouldn't hurt to make an appointment at your local Apple Store or an AASP and have the techs take a look at it. If there's no 'physical' scratch then there may be a problem with your screen that can be fixed under warranty.
And open windows should not 'shake' - another thing that the techs to evaluate.
    Best of luck,
    Clinton

I open iWeb but the main window doesn't open/appear on screen. The little windows like the inspector and font windows appear. Can anyone help?

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD and running Disk Utility to see if anything needs fixing on the HD. Restart holding down Command+r and once it hopefully boots select Disk Utility>Repair Disk. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try restarting as normal from the Apple menu once done.
Do you have backup to restore from if it proves to be the Mac has a hardware fault?

Hi When going from Develop module to print module a white boarder appears on screen which also prints via my epson r3000 printer. I can get round this by exporting photo to Elements and printing from there but can i get rid of the boarder and print from lightroom?

In the printer driver (accessed through the Page Setup button) set the Advanced tab to borderless. Then in the right hand panel under Layout set all the margins to zero.

  • My iPhone caller image is still appearing full screen instead of in the right-hand corner, even though I've assigned the images to them on my mac.

I had originally assigned images to my contacts through my iPhone which made them appear full screen when recieving/making a call, but now I want the images to appear in the top-right corner. I've assigned all new photos to override the old photos through my Address Book on my Mac, but they still continue to be full screen. Can anybody please explain to me what's going on? I'm an intermediate-advanced user. Thanks!

You did not try what I provided. There is a difference between syncing and replacing.
As with MobileMe, there should be an option with iCloud to replace info on cloud with what is available in the Address Book - all at once. This may not make any difference in this regard.

Hi, when powering up my macbook pro, when the apple symbol appears the screen flashes pink, can anyone advise whats up?

You can try a system reinstall:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Conversation does not appear on screen

One particular instant messaging conversation does not appear on screen. I am notified when a new message is sent to me, and when I hover over the Skype icon on the Windows toolbar I can see the icon for the conversation window, but the conversation itself does not appear.  All other conversations appear just fine.  It happens to be a running conversation with my boss, so I really would like to fix it.  Currently when I get a message in this conversation I have to use Skype on my phone to participate in the conversation, but it is much faster to type on my computer keyboard than on my phone. Thanks for your help.

Computer clock time is correct.  No, it hasn't been wrong, or at least I have never had to reset the time, it's always been correct.  This is the only conversation this is happening with.  It's still happening.  I have to go to my phone to message in this particular conversation.  My boss was on leave for awhile and so this conversation was inactive for a couple of months.  It was working fine before she left.  One more piece of info ... I used to have two monitors, now I'm using only one.  But switching to one monitor didn't affect any of the other conversations I participate in.

  • IOS7 upgrade has ruined messaging, huge delay in typing before characters appear in screen on iPhone 4

I have the exact same issue right now!

  • Delay from when typed to when text appears on screen?

I'll type but there is a long lag time before the text appears on screen.
This seems to have started after upgrading to Mavericks and is most noticeable in Apple Mail.
Any tips as to how to diagnose and fix?
    FWIW.....
I'm on a MacBook Pro (closed lid), Apple monitor, Apple wireless keypad and mouse.
    And now OS X 10.9.3.
    Thank you.

I had a very similar problem.  No matter where I typed (Word, Apple Mail, online, etc.) I would get a typing lag.  I did all the self diagnostics, repair disk, hardware test, PRAM reset, etc.  Still had the problem. Even my mouse was lagging when i moved it. I took it to the Genius Bar and they did a hardware check and it did not reveal any problems.  The tech said it still may be a hard drive or memory problem. They reformatted the hard drive and did a clean install of mavericks.  I moved a few items from my time machine back up and the problem started to occur again.  I reinstalled my old RAM, still had the problem.
I had wanted to upgrade to a Solid State Drive (SSD), so I purchased a Samsung EVO 500 GB SSD.  As I was cloning the new hard drive, I noticed the problem wasn't occurring anymore.  So I suspect it was the hard drive starting and stopping that was causing the problem.  During the cloning process the installed drive was constantly spinning, therefore not starting and stopping. I've installed the new SSD and in addition to the lag problem going away, my Macbook is wicked fast!

Kindly Help the same.. )

So then this means your Energy Saver preferences are corrupted somewhere. I would at least backup your data in case something else gets corrupted by a damaged directory, or the hard drive is beginning to show signs of its dying, or you find you might later need to repair your directory. Regardless, I wouldn't update your software until you find out why your Energy Saver doesn't work properly with the only third party item being a display.
