Scratches & Black iPod- Let's end the problem

Ok, I just got my 30gig Black iPod, and you people have me scared to death to actually use it! After reading posts about the cases & scratches, let's simplify the forum. Use this post to tell what you have to protect your pod. Maybe just tell us what product, where purchased, and rate it (1-5) using astericks (***). Personally, I only had it one day before I noticed light scratching! This need not happen to anyone else! So, how does one repair existing scratches, and prevent them in the future?

Tommy, are you disapointed with the fact that after all these years GM, Ford, etc...haven't created a car that won't scratch? Come on! The iPod is highly polished, mirror like...if you aren't careful with it, you will scratch it.
For everyone who says they have deep scratches on their iPod...What the heck are you doing with it to get deep scratches. Those can only come from not caring for your iPod.
Come on everyone, enough about the scratches. They are inevitable on almost anything you've bought, buy or will ever buy. You can't escape them, so let's stop talking about them...please.

If this is a new computer you need to authorise it. In itunes click on STORE and hten authorise this computer.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

I have a Lexmark x5150 printer, getting error message Prop Res DLL not located when trying to print, just in Black. Contacted Lexmark, determined the Problem is Firefox 4.3 doesn't support this feature, although my browser internet explorer does.

I print shipping labels through Paypal, I want to print just in black ink, but when I use the Lexmark properties to change the printing to just black, getting message Prop Res DLL not located. Spent some time with Lexmark Chat to try and find out what I needed to do to fix this. As they walked me through a couple of things to try, one was to go to Internet Explorer, found I could do the necessary printing, with no problems of getting that error message. So it appears the problem is with Firefox 4.3

ABP is blocking content of Ticketmaster, I tried to disable but it doesn't. I can utilize Ticketmaster on my iPod, so I know the problem is with ABP. Help

The latest iPod Updater File is the problem...

I called Apple today and the cust. support guy confirmed with me that they acknowledge there is an "issue" with the latest file (dated Oct '05). He says it's not a problem, just an issue. I say by the number of people on here complaining, it's a problem. Call Apple to complain, that's the only way to get things fixed.

i am an extremely experienced mac user. i have a home network with five macs. i own 4 differnt ipods including 2 shuffles. the shuffles are no longer recognized and in fact, no longer usable. when i try and play, all i get is alternating green and yellow lights. ipods show up as being connected in the system profiler under the usb ports. they do not show up in itunes or in the finder. all macs are well maintained with the latest updates. all music is ripped frrom purchased CDs. No piriate music or software is present on any machine on the network. the ipod shuffles are both dead now, unusable and are not recognized by any version of the ipod updater.
help help help! and don't just send me to the standard help pages. i have read all the articles and tried all of the proposed solutions. i have run the disk utility on all machines and have found no problems. all disk permissions are verified and repaired. THis is an APPLE problem that I hope you solve soon.

Lets play guess the problem...

Ok, so I just found something out about the sound.
It sounds fine when playing tracks whilst it is charging, but still the same low volumed muffle when it isnt.
Anyone have any ideas how i can ressurect the problem of what part of the iPod it may be to do with?

Is it plugged into the same amplifier (ie headphones, external speakers) when charging and when it's not charging? If your playing through a dock (or iPod sound system) when charging, but through headphones when not charging, it's possible that something is wrong with the headphone jack. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get those fixed. One way to find out if it's the jack, is to play through an external amplifier (with an audio cable plugged into the headphone jack) with it charging, and then play through the same amplifier with it not charging.
Otherwise, there may be something wrong with your headphones/earbuds.
Worst case scenerio would be a bad amplifier in your iPod, but I don't think that's the problem.

What can i do about my quickly dying ipod and what is the problem?

I bought my ipod touch 4th gen 32gb about 10 months ago in 2011 on December, after about 6 months since i bought it the battery started to last for shorter times. Now ( after 10 months today is 20th of september 2012) it really doesnt last for very long at all. After i fully charge it and play a game and do other stuff aswell it sometimes only lasts for 1 and a half to 2 hours only. It also charges very quickly now. I use both my laptop and the belkin ipod charger to charge it i use the cable that came with the ipod and sometimes use it with a usb extender. I also sometimes use the ipod while it is charging. I also sometimes take it out of charging before it is finished but i don't do this very much because i heard it was bad for the battery.
My question is what can i do about this problem and what might apple be able to do. i want to know how to increase the battery life. And i also want to know is there something i am doing wrong during my charging process or something. I don't to do any of that stuff like taking the back of the ipod off or jailbreaking it, i don't want to stuff the ipod up and i want to keep it like a real ipod. Please help i really want to keep my ipod in good condition so please help if you can

So my iPod Touch battery is like this too..except worse. I can't take mine off the charger considering it will die in less than a minute. I recently posted a question like this too so if I get any feedback, i'll let u know. Stay in there & dont charge it unless it's COMPLETELY dead (not to were it turns off, but to were it's telling you "20% Battery Remaining), and don't take it off the charger unless it's COMPLETELY charged. You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it. If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

When I print from the web, the print is blue ink, which I don't want and can't read. When I print from Word, it is black ink. What is the problem?

If I print an article downloaded from the web, it prints in blue ink, which is almost not readable. If I download it to Word or print a document stand alone in Word, it prints in black ink, which is what I want. I didn't have this problem before I upgraded to the new Firefox. Please help.

I should also point out that when I connect my iPhone, it DOESN'T appear as a connected drive on the desktop. Not sure how this can be so, since the iPhone also has a drive and also functions as an iPod if I want it to. I must have changed some setting to achieve this non-appearance, but don't remember what I must have done.

80G Video iPod - Not sure what the problem is

So this problem just randomly started occuring. What will happen is my iPod will freeze completely, and then it will go to this screen which has a warning i have never seen before. It is an iPod with a triangular warning sign on it (with exclamation mark on it). There is text under the warning sign saying "www.apple.com/support/ipod". If anyone has had this problem before and/or know how to fix it, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks a ton.

IPhoto 6, let me count the problems

First of all, let me say I love my mac, and almost every piece of software they have made.
iPhoto however is the exception to that adoration.
My latest problem with iPhoto is a combination of a variety of issues.
1. To save hard drive space i deleted a tonne of photos from my hard drive, for some reason these were still appearing partially as thumbnails in iPhoto, even though they weren't in originals or data, or any other folder. So after trying to delete them again, I couldn't even tell which were supposed to be there and which weren't, so I did a rebuild to try to purge the absent photos. This sorta worked, but what it also did was resize all of my photos to 350x240. Not too happy about that, anyone know why it did that? Most of my images I had backed up but not the past few rolls.
2. Without fail exporting groups of photos doesn't work for me. Used to only fail when I had photos that I had rotated, but now it is doing it all the time. try exporting just to a folder and also the picasa web exporter.
3. Why does it have copies of images in original, modified and data?
4. Why can iTunes be so simple and so effective at organizing music, yet, iPhoto is so terrible in every way shape and form at doing the same with photos?

No, there is no way to turn off iPhoto's version control and trying to defeat it will simply damage your Library - again. If you don't require the feature then simply, don't use iPhoto.

Remember: the trick to using iPhoto is to do everything in the iPhoto Window. And that means everything. If you cannot figure out how to achieve what you want then consult the help or post back on here by all means.
iPhoto is a database. Like any db it requires that you manipulate the data via the application and not through a back door. So, when you dragged all those pics out of the Library Folder, iPhoto didn't know they were gone.
For Instance:
To remove pics from iPhoto and the Hard Disk. In the iPhoto Window: Get into Library View and drag the pics to the iPhoto trash. Then iPhoto Menu -> Empty the Trash.
There are some common ways that folks try this and are annoyed to discover their library in the Finder is not getting any smaller. First, they drag pics from an Album to the trash. However, this does not remove a pic from the Library, only from the Album. You need to be in Library view. (This is just like iTunes.) Secondly, folks drag the pics to the iPhoto trash, but don't empty it. Also, folks miss the iPhoto trash and drag to the Main trash.
The size of the files makes no difference to the operation of iPhoto. I have a 20k library that totals almost 50 gigs. I files in there that run from 1MB to 6MB in size. I have no speed issues.
But: having a damaged db will, having an overcrowded hard disk most certainly will. And having 10gigs free on your HD is the minimum that OS X needs for normal operations. However, being unable to export is another symptom of... a damaged database.
As is the fact that iPhoto is not managing to export rotated files.
I'm not sure how you went about rebuilding your Library, but if you do the following, your Library will work correctly:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Firefox won't start and XP won't let me end the process(es).

After having used firefox for ages with no problems, I tried to open a new Firefox window, and it wouldn't open. I opened the XP task manager and tried to end all of the firefox tasks (there were at least two)... Neither of them would end. No "are you sure message." Nothing. ...And firefox won't open. (I'm using Chrome)

Restoring Ipod - will it solve the problems with Itunes 9?

Does anybody know if restoring the ipod will allow it to sync again? I have had connection problems since 'upgrading' to Itunes 9.
I don't want to wipe my ipod, only to be unable to put anything back on, and be left with nothing!

I have an 80G iPod Classic completely out of warranty. Unfortunately everything has been fine with my ipod up until yesterday when I updated itunes to its latest version... Now my ipod constantly crashes and if I can manage to get itunes to recognize it the songs stay on just long enough for me to unplug then loose it all again.
Do you believe my ipod is done for good, or maybe just until Apple puts out another version?
