Scratches on iPad 2 from smart cover

I have ordered a smart cover that I should receive in a few days. I have read in a few places that the cover leaves scuff marks on the left side of the iPad. Has anyone used one and doesn't have scratches? Or should I expect and accept that the product will leave scratches?

An update on the Smart Cover rubbing against my iPad. After the second Smart Cover started to show signs of the metal being rubbed of its hinges I took the covers and iPad to the Apple Store. None of my friends have had any problems and I haven't seen any other reports like mine. So the Apple Store was awesome, the exchanged the iPad and both Smart Covers and now I can see the difference. It looks like the first iPad might have had some slight back case anomaly or the magnets might have been misaligned which caused the rubbing. The new iPad and Smart Covers aren't hitting each out so things look good.
Anyway, I think my iPad was a fluke (Apple Store hadn't seen any problems come in). I highly recommend the Smart Covers. I love mine and now that they attach correctly I am a very happy customer. Plus, Apple's customer support at the store was amazing as usual.

Actually, they won't replace the screen, they'll replace it. The following is a C&P from the link that I gave you.
"If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below."

So I have an iPad with the smart cover, and it's usually supposed to turn on the iPad when u open it, but it's no doing that for me. Nor is it turning off without pressing the button. What is the meaning of this?

You set up the smart cover function in settings (you did that, right?) so, if you did that and it's failed you make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar now.

Ipad sleeve with smart cover

Hi,
I am looking for some type of sleeve for my ipad when I travel to/from work on my motorcycle. The plan would be to have the ipad in the saddlebag, but have a bit of extra protection from vibration and such. I have a smart cover and the thin back protector installed. I would like something with some extra space to keep those on and just slide the ipad into the sleeve.

I would just find a generic neoprene sleeve. Look at office supply stores or the such.

hello - does anyone know what the difference is between older smart covers and the one which are releasing this week? Is it just colours? (Apart from adding the white one, I don't see what the difference in colours either...)

iPad Smart Cover and Smart Case—polyurethane
To clean your polyurethane iPad Smart Cover / Case, first remove it from the iPad. Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Wipe the front of the Smart Cover / Case and the inside with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any dirt.
Don't use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the polyurethane Smart Cover / Case.
iPad Smart Cover and Smart Case—leather
The iPad leather cover/case is made from natural aniline leather. Its appearance will change as you use it. It may acquire a patina and may change color due to the oils from your skin and direct sunlight, further enhancing the natural look.
Cleaning the leather may affect its color. If you choose to clean the leather, first remove the cover/case from your iPad. Use a clean cloth with warm water and mild hand soap to gently clean the leather. Wipe the outside and the inside with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any dirt. You can also use a mild cleaner along with a dry clean cloth. Mild cleaners or conditioners may help remove some stains but may also change the color of the leather.
Keep your iPad leather cover/case away from prolonged intense sunlight, heat, and humidity. Exposure to water, oil, makeup, and dyed materials (such as denim) can stain tanned leathers.

Is there a way to have my iPad Mini's Smart Cover open up to the lockscreen instead of unlocking it?

I'm using 32gb iPad mini 1st gen, which is running iOS 8.1.2. I have a Zagg Keyboard Folio Smart Cover.
My "lock/unlock" option in settings is on, and works just fine, but while I want my iPad to lock itself automatically I do not want it to UNlock—just turn the screen on upon opening the device.
I DO NOT want to use a passcode to do this.
I found a thread posted three months ago on Reddit (will link soon) which said this was possible with a "iPad cover unlock" toggle setting in "General," but I cannot find this option in my settings.
Does anyone have any ideas? It bothers me in the most insignificant manner possible, but I would like to change it if I can.

You cannot set it to unlock only. It's both or nothing.

Still have to unlock ipad when using smart cover iOS7

Before the update I would just open my ipad cover and it would be unlocked. Now, randomly, my iPad will still be locked when I open it but the screen is lit up. I think its happening when I have a notification sitting there. (i.e. "_______ Has mentioned you on Facebook" or a text message) I've checked the setting where its supposed to unlock when opened. Is this just some new feature?

I too have this issue.
Here is the workaround, but is tedious and depends on how many notification apps you have.
Go Settings -> Notification Center -> Under INCLUDE ->
For each app, disable "Show on Lock Screen"
This will allow you to unlock using smart cover without swipe to unlock.
Downside would be you get no alert sound when new notification comes in. Unless its unlocked. Hope they resolve this issue asap.

Does not. Same as if you brought in an iPad that never had a cover on it but still had scuff marks -- accidental/abuse (technical terms).

IPad Air 2 Smart Cover

I just bought an iPad Air 2 with Smart Case but the holes in the Smart Case for lens & volume controls don't match up, off just a little. Was I sold case for orig. iPad Air!

I meant I purchased the full smart case, not the cover. Wondering if the camera lens and volume control locations are slightly different between the original iPad Air and the iPad Air 2? The reason I'm asking is that I just purchased the Air 2 with Smart Case and the holes in the case for the camera lens and volume controls don't line up with the lens and volume controls on the Air 2. The lens us partially covered by the case and the area for the volume controls are off some as well. I'm wondering if I was accidentally sold a case for the original iPad Air?

Depending on your Settings this is normal behavior. Check the Settings app as JimHdk suggested.

My smart cover is scratching my screen and will not put my ipad to sleep what should I do?

Ever since I got my IPad the smart cover half the time does not put the Ipad to sleep. Also, the cover is scratching my screen. This smart cover is really causing me to regret my decision to sell my IPad 1 and get the second generation IPad. Also, Safari is and some of the other apps are constantly crashing, I am getting really frustrated where should I go from here the apple store has not been much of a help?
P.S.
I hope that this is not like the first generation Apple TV I bought which has never worked correctly (waste of 220 dollars).

Yesterday I found that I have a big scratch on the left side of my iPad third gen... This scratch have been made by my smart cover ... I called apple and they said that it's not suppose to happen ! I also read on Internet that when your iPad has this problem apple replaces yours for free ... Is that true ... Sorry for my bad English ;)
